Of course it is. It was no different at the end of Season of the Lost and Season of the Seraph. Admittedy those two finales had more impact than this one, but this ending feels like it is the calm before the storm.
Once again it ends too short. I wish we could’ve seen Crow land and a sneak peek at the Pale Heart. I would’ve accepted that and this is the perfect Scenario for me, see Crow land AND meet Cayde again. I desperately need that cutscene in Final Shape and Cayde passing the vanguard mantle to crow,just to fulfill the Vanguard dare.
I hope not, but this timing might be a lazy shortcut. The Moment when Crow meets Cayde should be a cutscene, but it could be that we go into the portal and alredy see them months after that, while The Moment itself is pushed into a lore tab. Again, I hope not.
I wonder how often Riven directly addresses Mara by name instead of "O majesty mine". If she doesn't, then it's a nod of respect to refer to her without possession.
I know we can search your archives and go through the detailed videos if we want but I think it would be pertinent to do a synopsis of Cayde-6 for any newer lights who haven't played any missions with him. An overview from his Deep Stone Crypt lore up through Forsaken would be wonderful to see. Keep up the great work!
Same 🫤 Glad I didn't bother w/this season, to be honest. I haven't played on a regular basis in well over a year now. I just got so burnt out. And the content seemed stale. And the company well... Bungie is lucky ANY of us are playing a game from their triflin asses, let's just say that. lol I'm not even sure I'll be back til The Final Shape, the way things are going. And that's only cuz I want to see how it ends, and... see if we get 1 more darkness power or not. Kinda interested in that. But I don't feel any regret missing out on this current season, AT ALL. I'm enjoying another game way more, frankly.

Its not finale on Seraph's level. But maybe for the better. I adored Mara's character progression and evolucion this season. From cold, distand and grieving Queen to an ally. Friend. Someone who aknowledges and apologizes. Can't wait for more. Bravo Bungie 🫶🏻
I'm loving her progress, too, but it's been in the works for a while. Really, the events of Lost, and of the Parasite quest in Witch Queen, did a number on her, but it wasn't until Defiance that we really started to see it come to fruition. The Mara Sov of D1 wouldn't dream of sullying her power by investing it in _Guardians._

From fighting and tensions to her "please come back to me." From her trying to control him his whole life to "go and live your life your way. Find your purpose." She's so amazing 🫶🏻🥰
That's just one of the good things in this season and it's good to see Mara grow. As for the rest of this season, it's another boring chore of a grind-fest. Glad I didn't bought this season
It’s not really the ending that erks me. It’s a typical “to be continued” scenario which works fine. What i really hate is that Destiny’s biggest secret ever (the 15th wish) was completely lost to a seasonal quest where we kill mobs, listen to dialogue, rally to the holo projector, then listen to the radio message. This was a HUGELY missed opportunity for Bungo to do a community puzzle like Corridors of Time, or opening the last forge in Black Armory. No, it just magically popped out of nowhere for plot convenience, proving Bungo doesn’t care for their own stories anymore and clearly just wants to move on to Marathon.
Checked out like a week or two after the season started. Can't remember exactly. Extending gratitudes to Byf for these lore videos. Far more engaging than the gameplay loop.
I like Crows "See you Starside". Also, Riven finally said, "This one you shall cherish." It's been grayed in our lore book page description for so long.
Long form content of a deep dive into each character would be cool. Drifter's timeline (as far as we know anyway) would be cool to double back over. Shaxx, Eris, Petra, Anna and Elsie.. Similar to a 'their story so far..' kinda thing. Byf is not going to be short on content for a long time. If anything, this long season is more an opportunity to catch up on everything.
The season makes me wonder that if the ahamkara transcend death if taranis' spirit can be called upon, the same way riven was...And if he could teach the whims to exist without bargaining..
I doubt it bc in the exotic missions he does the one thing a ahamkara can never do and that’s grant their own wish. So whatever black reversal magic tied to it is probably why he’s gone gone
If a Ahamkara grants their own Wish they cease to exist. Riven will continue to exist in whatever Spirit realm she's in now, but in Taranis' case the only reason why his consciousness was still there is because his Wish wasn't fulfilled yet.
Riven says Ahamkara grow powerful by twisting and granting wishes, and that makes them leave a "stain" in the world when They die. Bigger when the Ahamkara is more powerful Taranis however didnt twist wishes, so he was much weaker and his stain was smaller. By granting his own wish, not Only did he kill himself, he doomed his "afterlife as bones". The moment we secure the eggs and Taranis speaks one Last time with Riven, his Spirit ceases to exist. Its why granting their own wishes is unthinkable for the Ahamkara.
Considering he speaks through Uldren at the end of the first time one completes the Exotic mission, I’d say it’s very likely he _could_ be called upon.
Contrary to popular opinion i think the ending is actually good, well maybe not good but what is was supposed to be. It needs to be an underwhelming cliffhanger, a period of confusion and instability until Mara and Osiris figure out what to do, to the guardian, the vanguard and us the player. Sure it doesn't really land well after all the bad writing we had recently to also leaves things like these, and knowing what comes next (we are definitely going into the traveler) then we know what is going to happen, but the ending technically serves its purpose. Also for everyone expecting an astonishing end of season finale, we won't probably get that either, we are not supposed to go into the traveler now, that has to be the first mission of Final Shape, the same with Lightfall, we arriving at Neomuna has to be the first mission of the dlc, not the ending of the season of the seraph. They were able to make a really good ending before lightfall but then screwed up the expansion. In here the final mission probably won't be as satisfaying as sacrificing Rasputin and we won't see the pale heart, nor Cayde or anything. The best they can do is a big enemy trying to stop us from establishing a link with Crow. Revealing Xivu probably is not a good idea for a season finale of a pass (I believe she will be an important character post final shape), but Fikrul could be a really good candidate for it. He also has a conection with crow, and he is more relevant in this few weeks and the dungeon, also he has a relation with Crow, so my bet is on a duel between the Scorn with Fikrul and us to get who gets to follow Crow
My predictions are : 1. Crow either meets Cayde or he becomes Cayde (like possession) and they team up to open the other side of the portal 2. Crow sacrifices himself in the process of opening the portal 3. Fikrul and his scorn are being controlled by Yor… (I really hope he makes a comeback as the one of the next big antagonists if destiny survives) 4. Riven’s children end the curse on the dreaming city
I would love for byf to do another D1 to current talk through giving an entire recap on all of destiny and its characters and backstory like he had before but before the final shape would be awesome

In a weird way, I'm going to miss Riven. I hope at some point, she and Taranis have more of a part to play in D2's future. Also Byf, I know D2's future is anything but sure right now. "Until we meet again, Mara" Sounds like a deliberate choice of words from Riven. Methinks the creature that finds its power from the gulf between words and desire might still know something. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, of all the characters in Destiny, Riven (along with Savathuun, who already had at least one secret dealing with the Ahamkara) is the one whose words require the most scrutiny. Even suggesting that they might meet again could be all Riven needs to make it a reality.
CORRECT. Glad someone else can think critically. The lore card from 2015 that proves you correct. Riven. Things I saw inside A wild river and a broken dam (or maybe it's just the sea crashing through a narrow gap I can't be sure). Waves slam through the gap and where they hit the stone they throw up pillars of spray that pierce the mist and crash down in thunder. There's a giant in the cataract, trying to wade against the current, and I can tell it wants to reach the lever and pull the lever which will seal off the flow or maybe give it the sword, but the torrent throws it back so it just keeps its head down and tries to push on. I can't see the face but it breathes out white smoke. I feel for it hard. A world painted around the interior like a stranger Earth everted and glued inside itself but I don't believe this one it's too much like a metaphor. *A switchboard or a train station, empty, dead (waiting). The tunnels branch off into infinity. I stare down one for a long time and see a pale worm move in hungry coils around itself. I think this one is the most likely although I might have brought the worm.* *An egg but I'm not sure if the broth inside is warm still, or if it's gone to rot, or if the warmth comes from the struggles of the tiny winged zygote or the bleed from the wound or the thoughts of something thinking very hard.* A star I think. We count on stars as steady friends because they always rise and always shine but a star's a delicate truce: an explosion caught by its own mass so that it can't erupt and can't collapse. Thus I imagine the state of the machine might be. But one force or another has gone awry and now it rests here, snuffed and broken, waiting for the two rival forms of ruin to be set in balance again.

Y'know.. despite everything, despite all the downsides we've faced, at least everyone gets to see this to the very end (as a destiny 1 veteran it makes me smile knowing we're this close to finally finishing the light and dark saga so I'd say I'm quite proud I didn't give up on this franchise) I definitely was not a fan of this ending, felt more like a 'To be continued' scene rather than an actual seasonal ending, I was hoping for more of a 'Riven grants crow a safe passage through the portal while the vanguard and other races watch from the back to see him triumph' but instead we get 'Riven spawns a small portal and crow runs through' which in my opinion did not feel as dramatic as I hoped it would be. But besides that, we've now gotta wait 5 months for final shape to start (by that logic crow's gonna be stuck inside the traveller for 5 months which sucks for him XD) It was a good ride, truly, not saying it is over because destiny 2 will certainly continue new stories in the next chapter, but right now, this is truly the finale for destiny as a whole, a story forged through many years with a big community behind it for the ride. All Ill say is see you all on the other side, guardians!

I’m honestly still excited for what’s to come. I understand the community sentiment towards Destiny 2 right now isn’t great, but I’m still holding out. I have faith they’ll deliver with these next few months, and with TFS. There’s no doubt these next few months will feel slow though.
Glad to see a comment like this. I feel the same. It’s nice to see someone else openly still having hope for the future. It gets kind of daunting in this current and understandable state of the game, especially it still being one of my absolute faves, for better or worse. I’m willing to put my faith in the dev team and them only. Regardless of what bs management is pulling, I just pray they let the devs put their all in it and close this saga that will honor the best of their creativity as well as their love for this game and it’s community.

I understand not liking the state of the game, but how thick in the skull does someone have to be to not understand that 99% of this is not the devs fault.

Crow, Petra, Osiris, and Mara’s voice actors were great this season. You can really tell, Mara still keeps her guard up, and still vigilant and cordial as the steely Queen of the Awoken, but she isn’t quite as reserved and secretive as she used to be. Perhaps being humbled by the Witness, Savathun, and being shown the truth of every other dark future by Eilzabeth, and having liked-minded allies, like Mithraks, Eris and Osiris, changed her perspective on this war, and her place in it. She alone does not have to fight the eternal war, the Awoken need not carry this burden alone. If not for humanity, the Awoken could’ve been overrun by the curse and the Taken, if not for the Awoken, the City would’ve been destroyed and the Guardians shattered by all six Houses. Luckily, Mara’s interference with House Winter led us to very well win at Six Fronts. The Awoken having been our first allies, shows how much humanity and the Reef needed each other.
Still think that spire like, that white key like spike sticking out of the Winess's Pyramid, where Nezarec met his end and which points straight to the center of the Portal in the Traveler has some part t play in our Journey to it. I could be completely wrong, but........
Honestly I’m not too disappointed with how the season ended. I would’ve liked a bit more flare, sure, but I’m mostly just feeling melancholic about Riven’s final words.
Who else went to the wishing wall the OG route for the nostalgia, not using the floating platforms. one last time before the end. I just wanted to take my time and enjoy the moment, to remember what it felt like to play destiny in forsaken. It really feels like it's about to be the end, ten long years we have waited for this moment. After the finale shape I will miss this game and no other game could replicate its beauty. Destiny might be at a low point, but it is like no other. A truly amazing experience.
Given that lore tab where Crow talks to an illusion of Mara (prob Riven) at Mara's old throne, and the soulful goodbyes this week, I kind of expect Crow to have made an (unwitting) wish to Riven to give his life so that Cayde-6 may be resurrected, Especially with Riven's one final death, one final meal lines. So you have thoughts on this?
Evaze did a video on this a couple days ago, and my theory along with a lot of others is this. Savathun's wish "Open a path to the Traveler pale heart to follow the Witness" and Crow's wish to "Tell Cayde IN PERSON that he wished he had never pulled the trigger" are so close that they can be fulfilled by the same wish!
Crow is probably standing around in the same place we'll find him in 5 months lol. Just some cool writen story until Bungie drops the trailer for the final season.

It definitely should've been a big "Crow goes into the Traveler portal" than "Hey, here's one right here, go" and then it stops. No teaser of the Pale Heart, no big build up, nothing.
It’s too bad we couldn’t see riven open her face and have her eyes glow, she granted the wish but i guess they could only glow when they manipulate the wish.
Love how the “final boss” was something snatched out of Forsaken furthermore using the Vault theme from the Raid. Kinda meh would have love if we saw inside the Pale Heart through Crow’s eyes as a teaser.
It would’ve felt more hype in my opinion if it was the Guardian that did this. In D1, it was thanks to Mara and Uldren that we found the way into the Black Garden and slayed the Black Heart. This would have been the perfect callback moment for D1 Vets and new players alike for the Guardian to go into the Pale Heart to open the way, and eventually face the Witness.
And now we wait for the Final Shape Anybody else feeling a sense of tension for how this will all go? Not just for the story but for Destiny as a whole
Definitely, Bungie has so much riding on the next big events, coupled with how low things have been recently it's a lot of real life tension being mirrored by the winding down of things story wise. An interesting time to be a Destiny fan for sure

Has anyone figured who "he" was at the end of the last cutscene? She seems surprised, or scared. Him being on his way, like if its referring to Crow, we know he is on his way, he just stepped through the portal. The sound effects make it seem like its a heartbeat or footsteps, either of which is ominous. I'm kinda annoyed Byf glossed over this and never even mentioned it.
My question though, what in the world that that weird heart beat at the end there. Mara looked like she sensed it when he hands moved in that 3 second shot
Ironically I wished the finales for these seasons post lightfall were big and epic like the intense lore behind them. I see why bungie moved to the episode format now, had they done that from the beginning, the seasons this year wouldn’t feel so underwhelming presentation wise
If we get to see and maybe even Name a Baby Arhamkara then that would crazy But knowing bungie we wont cause for some reason they never do crazy stuff like thay which is depressing

In a way, its really sad to see riven go. We handed rivens ass back to her for years, and she strategically served it back to us. In the end she became an old friend who had realized a slight change in heart, and now it's finally time for her to go. A similar but very different goodbye to Rasputin. Love u riven, and hate you too 💙

I haven’t played since like week 3 and the story was the only reason I played, I just can’t do another weekly collection mission
Contrary to popular opinion i think the ending is actually good, well maybe not good but what is was supposed to be. It needs to be an underwhelming cliffhanger, a period of confusion and instability until Mara and Osiris figure out what to do, to the guardian, the vanguard and us the player. Sure it doesn't really land well after all the bad writing we had recently to also leaves things like these, and knowing what comes next (we are definitely going into the traveler) then we know what is going to happen, but the ending technically serves its purpose.
Also for everyone expecting an astonishing end of season finale, we won't probably get that either, we are not supposed to go into the traveler now, that has to be the first mission of Final Shape, the same with Lightfall, we arriving at Neomuna has to be the first mission of the dlc, not the ending of the season of the seraph. They were able to make a really good ending before lightfall but then screwed up the expansion. In here the final mission probably won't be as satisfaying as sacrificing Rasputin and we won't see the pale heart, nor Cayde or anything.
The best they can do is a big enemy trying to stop us from establishing a link with Crow. Revealing Xivu probably is not a good idea for a season finale of a pass (I believe she will be an important character post final shape), but Fikrul could be a really good candidate for it. He also has a conection with crow, and he is more relevant in this few weeks and the dungeon, also he has a relation with Crow, so my bet is on a duel between the Scorn with Fikrul and us to get who gets to follow Crow

My predictions are :
1. Crow either meets Cayde or he becomes Cayde (like possession) and they team up to open the other side of the portal
2. Crow sacrifices himself in the process of opening the portal
3. Fikrul and his scorn are being controlled by Yor… (I really hope he makes a comeback as the one of the next big antagonists if destiny survives)
4. Riven’s children end the curse on the dreaming city

In a weird way, I'm going to miss Riven. I hope at some point, she and Taranis have more of a part to play in D2's future. Also Byf, I know D2's future is anything but sure right now. Sounds like a deliberate choice of words from Riven. Methinks the creature that finds its power from the gulf between words and desire might still know something. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, of all the characters in Destiny, Riven (along with Savathuun, who already had at least one secret dealing with the Ahamkara) is the one whose words require the most scrutiny. Even suggesting that they might meet again could be all Riven needs to make it a reality.

Things I saw inside
A wild river and a broken dam (or maybe it's just the sea crashing through a narrow gap I can't be sure). Waves slam through the gap and where they hit the stone they throw up pillars of spray that pierce the mist and crash down in thunder. There's a giant in the cataract, trying to wade against the current, and I can tell it wants to reach the lever and pull the lever which will seal off the flow or maybe give it the sword, but the torrent throws it back so it just keeps its head down and tries to push on. I can't see the face but it breathes out white smoke. I feel for it hard.
A world painted around the interior like a stranger Earth everted and glued inside itself but I don't believe this one it's too much like a metaphor.
*A switchboard or a train station, empty, dead (waiting). The tunnels branch off into infinity. I stare down one for a long time and see a pale worm move in hungry coils around itself. I think this one is the most likely although I might have brought the worm.*
*An egg but I'm not sure if the broth inside is warm still, or if it's gone to rot, or if the warmth comes from the struggles of the tiny winged zygote or the bleed from the wound or the thoughts of something thinking very hard.*
A star I think. We count on stars as steady friends because they always rise and always shine but a star's a delicate truce: an explosion caught by its own mass so that it can't erupt and can't collapse. Thus I imagine the state of the machine might be. But one force or another has gone awry and now it rests here, snuffed and broken, waiting for the two rival forms of ruin to be set in balance again.
While it definitely feels underwhelming, keep in mind this story was designed before the final shape delay, so initially there was a much shorter wait

The actual finale comes at the end of the delay, right before the launch of final shape, and has a final mission as well.
Y'know.. despite everything, despite all the downsides we've faced, at least everyone gets to see this to the very end (as a destiny 1 veteran it makes me smile knowing we're this close to finally finishing the light and dark saga so I'd say I'm quite proud I didn't give up on this franchise)
I definitely was not a fan of this ending, felt more like a 'To be continued' scene rather than an actual seasonal ending, I was hoping for more of a 'Riven grants crow a safe passage through the portal while the vanguard and other races watch from the back to see him triumph' but instead we get 'Riven spawns a small portal and crow runs through' which in my opinion did not feel as dramatic as I hoped it would be.
But besides that, we've now gotta wait 5 months for final shape to start (by that logic crow's gonna be stuck inside the traveller for 5 months which sucks for him XD)
It was a good ride, truly, not saying it is over because destiny 2 will certainly continue new stories in the next chapter, but right now, this is truly the finale for destiny as a whole, a story forged through many years with a big community behind it for the ride.
All Ill say is see you all on the other side, guardians!

I’m honestly still excited for what’s to come. I understand the community sentiment towards Destiny 2 right now isn’t great, but I’m still holding out. I have faith they’ll deliver with these next few months, and with TFS. There’s no doubt these next few months will feel slow though.
Glad to see a comment like this. I feel the same. It’s nice to see someone else openly still having hope for the future. It gets kind of daunting in this current and understandable state of the game, especially it still being one of my absolute faves, for better or worse. I’m willing to put my faith in the dev team and them only. Regardless of what bs management is pulling, I just pray they let the devs put their all in it and close this saga that will honor the best of their creativity as well as their love for this game and it’s community.

I understand not liking the state of the game, but how thick in the skull does someone have to be to not understand that 99% of this is not the devs fault.

Crow, Petra, Osiris, and Mara’s voice actors were great this season. You can really tell, Mara still keeps her guard up, and still vigilant and cordial as the steely Queen of the Awoken, but she isn’t quite as reserved and secretive as she used to be. Perhaps being humbled by the Witness, Savathun, and being shown the truth of every other dark future by Eilzabeth, and having liked-minded allies, like Mithraks, Eris and Osiris, changed her perspective on this war, and her place in it. She alone does not have to fight the eternal war, the Awoken need not carry this burden alone. If not for humanity, the Awoken could’ve been overrun by the curse and the Taken, if not for the Awoken, the City would’ve been destroyed and the Guardians shattered by all six Houses. Luckily, Mara’s interference with House Winter led us to very well win at Six Fronts. The Awoken having been our first allies, shows how much humanity and the Reef needed each other.
Still think that spire like, that white key like spike sticking out of the Winess's Pyramid, where Nezarec met his end and which points straight to the center of the Portal in the Traveler has some part t play in our Journey to it. I could be completely wrong, but........

Honestly I’m not too disappointed with how the season ended. I would’ve liked a bit more flare, sure, but I’m mostly just feeling melancholic about Riven’s final words.

Who else went to the wishing wall the OG route for the nostalgia, not using the floating platforms. one last time before the end. I just wanted to take my time and enjoy the moment, to remember what it felt like to play destiny in forsaken. It really feels like it's about to be the end, ten long years we have waited for this moment. After the finale shape I will miss this game and no other game could replicate its beauty. Destiny might be at a low point, but it is like no other. A truly amazing experience.
I'm really hoping we get full audio productions akin to the last word series; O Griot mine.

Given that lore tab where Crow talks to an illusion of Mara (prob Riven) at Mara's old throne, and the soulful goodbyes this week, I kind of expect Crow to have made an (unwitting) wish to Riven to give his life so that Cayde-6 may be resurrected, Especially with Riven's one final death, one final meal lines. So you have thoughts on this?
Evaze did a video on this a couple days ago, and my theory along with a lot of others is this. Savathun's wish "Open a path to the Traveler pale heart to follow the Witness" and Crow's wish to "Tell Cayde IN PERSON that he wished he had never pulled the trigger" are so close that they can be fulfilled by the same wish!
Crow is probably standing around in the same place we'll find him in 5 months lol. Just some cool writen story until Bungie drops the trailer for the final season.

It’s too bad we couldn’t see riven open her face and have her eyes glow, she granted the wish but i guess they could only glow when they manipulate the wish.
Love how the “final boss” was something snatched out of Forsaken furthermore using the Vault theme from the Raid. Kinda meh would have love if we saw inside the Pale Heart through Crow’s eyes as a teaser.

It would’ve felt more hype in my opinion if it was the Guardian that did this.
In D1, it was thanks to Mara and Uldren that we found the way into the Black Garden and slayed the Black Heart.
This would have been the perfect callback moment for D1 Vets and new players alike for the Guardian to go into the Pale Heart to open the way, and eventually face the Witness.
And now we wait for the Final Shape

Definitely, Bungie has so much riding on the next big events, coupled with how low things have been recently it's a lot of real life tension being mirrored by the winding down of things story wise. An interesting time to be a Destiny fan for sure

Has anyone figured who "he" was at the end of the last cutscene? She seems surprised, or scared. Him being on his way, like if its referring to Crow, we know he is on his way, he just stepped through the portal. The sound effects make it seem like its a heartbeat or footsteps, either of which is ominous. I'm kinda annoyed Byf glossed over this and never even mentioned it.

Ironically I wished the finales for these seasons post lightfall were big and epic like the intense lore behind them.

In a way, its really sad to see riven go. We handed rivens ass back to her for years, and she strategically served it back to us. In the end she became an old friend who had realized a slight change in heart, and now it's finally time for her to go. A similar but very different goodbye to Rasputin. Love u riven, and hate you too 💙
