Thanks snoman for all your subwoofer knowledge and recommendations on putting this plan together!
He is a GEM of our community
Love the 50 pound pick up!! 🫨
I have taken advil and am bedridden....
Awesome. Subs provide the emotional foundation to music for me.
I 100% agree. And a custom designed DIY sub brings a lot of that to the table. 💕💕
This looks very intriguing. Please don’t take this personal, I’d really like to see Erin’s Audio Corner get your sub and put it thru its paces? Data wise. For comparison reasons only. Just a thought.
It's a subwoofer it's not like it's going to play full range it's not going to be used over 200 Hz what do you need to do all that testing that doesn't play frequency over 200 hz
That would be cool. I believe measurements are crucial, but at the end of the day only tell us 20% of the story at best…. 😊😊.
There are no other 12" that we're aware of that meet the performance requirements.
Small sealed subs are actually quite easy to assess, ie., essentially, how much linear stroke is it capable of?
Then choose an appropriate amplifier to achieve the desired drive levels.
Small sealed;
higher power > lower power
Also ...
The listening room 𝙖𝙗𝙨𝙤𝙡𝙪𝙩𝙚𝙡𝙮 𝙤𝙬𝙣𝙨 the sub's response.
Setup is vital. The sub's position, the listener location, proper blending in both freq and time domain.
Sure, it'd be cool to see Erin put anything thru it's paces ...
However, small sealed platforms can be predictably assessed simply by calculations.
Far more than anything available retail.@@FOH3663
Thanks James!
Thank you Ben. 😊😊
So cool. Man, those things look great.
Thank you. 🙏🏼
Well done, solid work.
Very nice!
Thank you sir
Appreciate it brother it's interesting think I want to do the open baffles first and to be all honest I like smaller subwoofers they're faster maybe because room size but thank you
No problem 👍
Whoa 25MM Xmas 1 way.
She likes to move. But I notice it doesn’t move much and all really, and makes some nice clean bass too.
Man, I’d love to try and build one of these!!! Looks fantastic!!!!!
They’re great!! 😊
Those turned out pretty amazing!
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you for designing them.
what a fun build, and cheap too :)
i build a few myself, and had some 2500 dollar monitor audio active subwoofers. i do like subwoofers a lot.
Some Dayton audio drivers are on my wish list, current room is tiny so i had to go with shallow subwoofer drivers from SB Acoustics, only 6.5" deep boxes and 10" drivers.
i do like my dsp, so hard for me to recommend getting that, even tho i liked my results back when it dsp was not common.
some kind of minidsp product perhaps, flex or SHD series, then you get full dsp for whole system and just add amps, or dac's if you get the fully digital ones.
Well said. 😉
Git it!
While the getting is good. 🤣🤣
As of many years ago, TC sounds made a sub driver that was significantly better than almost any consumer sub driver . It's logical to assume drivers hve improved since.
Agreed.
@@abxaudiophiles and ironically REL-
Many moons ago, REL made a 12” sub that was over 2 grand and not really impressive except to magnepan guys.
I made a 15” kit sub for $799 that blew the REL away in every aspect of performance.
@@scottlowell493 👍🏼👍🏼🙌👏🏼
You're right!
TC Sounds classic ferrite LMS5400, and the neo 5100.
LF driver tech really hasn't advanced a great deal since then ... but there's a few exciting things out there.
Purifi's LF drivers are notable for their surrounds, etc.
In pro sound, Powersoft's 𝙢𝙤𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙖𝙜𝙣𝙚𝙩 sub drivers are trying to push the state of the art. My fellow FOH Dave Rat builds them into his 30" SuperSubs he debuted at Coachella a decade ago.
Tom Danley had electric motor driven servo subs +30yrs ago! (Michael Jackson/others toured with them)
It seems everything tends to gravitate back to optimizing the traditional motor designs that have been around forever.
I just recently found your channel and I'm really excited to hear and learn about the world of DIY. I found all the parts from your links for the open baffle from LaDolce. With these subwoofers, is everything available through parts express except the crown amp? I didn't catch where the subwoofer enclosure came from if you wanted it precut. Thanks
Awesome stuff!! So for the subwoofer we have a full PDF available for the basic info and stuff. If you want it pre cut and shipped like I did, it’s about $300 per sub. If you jump in the discord you can order direct from the designer Matt who makes them. These subs are custom design and not off the shelf enclosures. You can also email through our website and I can get you in touch. Discord is the best as you can speak to all of us in real time. Basically all the parts are available online from multiple sources, so just pick the one that is best for you. 😊😊👏🏼👏🏼. Cool stuff and looking forward to your progress.
Oi mayhem gotta bounce
Bouncing is fun
That was a joke son 😁 you're doing great good things for the comminity esp us broke ass semi indigenous personnel 🤓 I landed on CSS SDX 10s w flatpacks and pro xover/ext amps all in under $1K American and they don't suck 😬 All the best to James and crew and you! 💋🍸🎁👍
I wonder if dual 15's or 18's could accomodate dual purpose systems with home theater? I love this channel and what you guys do
Anything can be designed. We were actually discussing a 24” driver sub the other day. 🤣🤣
I just built my own with the same subwoofer and crown but I used a 15 passive radiator and it's insane. I get the sound quality of a sealed and the low frequency of a port.
Wowza!!!!! Well done sir.
@@abxaudiophiles thanks I nice sounding subwoofer I got the same crown amp and everything I just used a passive radiator but that will push it over the $500 but I think it's a really good sounding subwoofer for 2 channel audio.
love it thanks for sharing, ive tried joining the discord but i just cant figure it out, maybe a quick tutorial vid if you find the time
We will have more videos coming out soon. Keep working on the discord as that’s where we all are in real time chatting. The guy who designs these cabinets is in there as well. He is also on our Facebook too. Cheers.
Svs sells a rack mount amp for their wall subs. Interested in different amp choices
Lots of great options out there.
Awesome..any link to those feet you used ?

Looks, good. A friend worked for one of the well known local electronics shops doing car installs back in the day. He and a a few guys would paint the mdf with fiber glass resin inside and out on the custom boxes. They believed it created a tighter sound.. I'd be curious your thoughts on this and maybe an A B test.
Good thoughts!
Cant wait to hear these broseph!! They sure look the biz. 🎉
Awesome video! I love that you guys are doing this on your channel/in your community. I really hope you continue to put out diy audio goodies, maybe an amp can be next since you have so many knowledgeable people in your circle.
I haven't had a chance to check out the discord yet so maybe it was discussed there, but how come you guys didn't go with an open baffle subwoofer design? That would've integrated perfect with the open baffle speakers you guys designed. They'd be easier to diy, (although you guys came up with a very simple, very potent sealed design) and would blend even better with your speakers. And the price could've been kept under $500 as well.
Thank you. Thank you. 😊😊😊. DIY open baffles sub is in the works. Most of the concept conversations happen in the discord. But hopefully soon….
@@abxaudiophiles that's awesome!! I soooo look forward to those.
I plan on building your open baffle speaker's towards the end of February, and I was going to get the diy gr research kit for their open baffle servo subs to go with them, but they were a little spendy, so I'm super excited for what you guys come up with!!
How about comparing to the RSL 10S mk2?
Would love more comparisons for sure. Our sub guy has had and heard most Al subs out there. He’s pretty confident we would need to jump up to about $2500-3000 per sub on retail to start to better these. Looking for some more subs to review soon. 😊😊😊
Thanks again! Super well done sub and video
Much appreciated!
Awesome, will there be measurements available?
I’m pretty sure Matt pinned them all in the discord in the subwoofer channel. I’ll check.
Ohh ok awesome, how can I get an invite link? The one on your page is not available.
@@EveryDayJay415oh dang. I’ll need to update that. Thank you. It’s also on our website. Let’s me grab a fresh one for you and post here. discord.gg/nKfbwCxJ
@@abxaudiophiles ok thanks that one worked, I got some diy ideas I would like to share. I have built a few. I’ll look for those measurements
The Dayton woofer doesn’t seem to be available anymore. Any suggestions on some alternatives?
Yea. La dolce audio as designed for these baffles. You won’t be mad
@@abxaudiophilesI don’t see any 12” sub drivers for sale at La Dolce. Site doesn’t seem active or functioning too. ???
@@mikerick6955 - hmm... Let me check in our discord for options. Feel free to jump in as we discuss these subs often and daily.
@@abxaudiophiles I will try but I'm new to discord and am really lost trying to navigate around there at the moment...
Do you think if you use dirac, that the DSP amp is needed, do they do approx the same thing? I'd probably get it anyways, but wonder would you run dirac on subs that were already eq'd.
Basically the Crown is just a low pass filter that lets you set crossover points. So yea DIRAC can still be used.
- Dirac shapes the response of the system to the room.
- The amplifier's DSP is used to shape the sub's response for the enclosure, etc., regardless of the room.
Actually a good question, one that's oftentimes misunderstood.
Amp's DSP is for the design.
Dirac is for it's use.
So where can we buy the baffle kit? and how much is it?
The subwoofer designs and plans are available in our discord. It's all free info. We don't sell stuff. We're a charity not a company.
Thanks man. I wish you were on AVS fourms. I cant get Discord to work properly, it wont let me accept your invite.
Darn it! Yea man, I only got so much time and too many forums already 🤣🤣🤣
Auido Circle is the one I like best. What other forums are you on?
