Painting a Photorealistic Rose in Pastels - Time Lapse Demonstration
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 жов 2024
- In this video, I demonstrate how I painted this beautiful peachy pink rose with water drops in pastel pencils and soft pastels. This painting took just over five hours to create and many colors were used, from various pinks, peach, orange, greys, blues, greens, cream, browns, and black. The photo reference was from Pixabay, which is a great place for artists to get reference photos to use for practicing. To see more about my process for this rose, visit my blog:

PRECIOSo! tienes cursos o tutoriales con el paso a paso.?
very nice
Wow, I love all types of realism especially photorealism. I am 16 right now, and I want to do this, but I think it might be too much for me. 😅 I just might stick with realism.
This is very good though!
Thanks! I think in time you can do this. We all start as beginners and get better by learning and practicing. Have faith in yourself!
It turned out great, very beautiful. Can I ask you about your process for getting the initial drawing down? Are you using pastel pencil and drawing directly onto your pastel paper or drawing it on regular paper and transferring over? Or something else? Thanks.
Thanks! I draw on paper and transfer either with graphite paper if I’m using a light coloured pastelmat. If I’m using dark paper, I’ll outline the back of my sketch with white pastel to transfer.
Hi Carole,
It is absolutely stunning. Do you paint on pastelmat? Which pastel pencils Do you prefer most for your technique?
Thank you! Yes, this was on pastelmat. I mostly use Caran d’Ache, some Carbothello Stabilo, and Rembrandt pastel sticks. There are also some times I’ll use some Conte a Paris and Generals pencils. I like the white Generals.
Wow!! Looks so real !! Do you have any pastel instructional books? ❤️😊
No books, but I have tutorials on Patreon and a full rose tutorial coming up for August’s lesson. ☺️ www.patreon.com/bePatron?u=14908456#no_universal_links
What’s the name of that black power that you are using for background? Great art the way.❤️
That is black pan pastels. And thanks!
@@CaroleRodrigue Thank you 🙂
Love your rose painting, Carole. I was wondering if you used sanded paper or not? Also, I find that when I use a pastel pencil, it looks flat compared to the soft pastels -- it does not have the luminosity and I can see where I used the pastel pencil and where I used the soft pastel. I am a beginner and I appreciate your video.
Thanks Renee! This was pastelmat. I used to work with sanded paper until I fell in love with pastelmat. It’s easier on the fingers, holds a lot of pastel, and is great for detailing. I wonder what sort of pencils do you use? A good pencil should give you good colour and luminosity. Also, I cover my work with glassine as I paint. It’s the same paper I use to cover paintings for shipping or storing.
@@CaroleRodrigue I use Derwent pencils and sanded paper (Uart or Mi-Teintes Touch). When used alone, they are fine, but when I try to use them along with my soft pastels, you can see the difference. The pencil is just different. I usually use them to draw what I plan to paint (when I'm not doing impressionistic work) and then go over that with hard pastels first (NuPastel) and then a blend of other softer pastels (Terry Ludwig, Jackson, Great American). I have not tried Pastelmat as it is so costly for a beginner (not making any $$ on my paintings, although I did sell 2 of them to friends when I posted them on Facebook - lol). I have received a small sample of Pastelmat when ordering other art supplies, but I just can't afford $5 a sheet for a 9x12. Just the pastels have ruined our savings. lol We are retired now, so we have to be careful how we spend our $$. I sure did love your rose painting and I'm going to try your technique. I've ordered a few PanPastel to help with the background and initial laying in along with some of the tools for PanPastel. I can't wait to try it. I wish I had you by my side to guide me. lol But this video helped me a lot. I hope to see more of them.
I’m wondering if perhaps your initial layers are too heavy? I always make sure to keep my first layers very thin so that I can build up more layers without my colours all mixing in together. I’ve never used Derwent pastels so I can’t comment. Pastel sticks are softer than pencils so easier to layer. And yes, pastelmat is costly so not a good option for practice and learning.
@@CaroleRodrigue I try to keep my first layers light by using hard pastels first. I think that the paper I am using does not take as many layers as I'd like and that is probably a huge part of it.
Wow!!! U make it look so easy...but its not!! Lol. Ive been trying....
Never give up! And yes, it is complicated. Patience and time are required, but you can do it. ☺️
@@CaroleRodrigue id love it if you did a video on how to blend pastels...maybe a bit slower one? Lol
Hello Carola, thanks for the nice tutorial. Unfortunately, I can't find the template on Pixabay. Are they still there? Greetings from Germany!
Very beautiful! Tell me what size of paper?
Thank you! This was 8 x 10”.
What kind of paper did you place over your painting to protect it from smudging? Is that wax paper?
That is a sheet of glassine paper. The pastels underneath won’t stick to it so everything is protected. I also use it when shipping.
What pastel and paper do you use?
Прекрасно!!❤❤❤
🍓🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🍓
Where can I find the reference photos of your tutorials?
Nikki Farias this reference was on Pixabay.
what surface do you use?
This was pastelmat.
Except for too many water droplets it was fun to watch.
Is this one have full-length on patreon as well?
No sorry, not this one. I didn’t have my Patreon at that time.
@@CaroleRodrigue looking forward to see you do another flower in patreon 😍
You said you got your idea from a website called pike and I couldn’t hear what it was
I think you mean the reference photo. It was from Pixabay.
Carole Rodrigue what does the website do again
It’s a free reference photo website. You can find a lot of great photos to practice paintings.
Okay cause I love art and I want too learn how to shade in my rose as well
Can you please slow down for beginners please
Pooja Jain use the menu on the top right of your screen and you can slow it down.
Wonderful!
Amazing
Thank you! I’m glad you liked it. ☺️
