I would like to wish. You and family a Merry Christmas from Lyne Qc, Canada
Very liberating!
Watching you paint is like watching the sunrise as you establish the dark shapes the bring in the color and light! I live in the south so really love the marshes. It's beautiful painting....thank you!
Haha I’m the dropped pastel of the family 😜
Beautiful! I've not painted in over a year, and not much the year before that. I want to get back to it, and watching this has been very motivational. Thank you!
we love them all ;D
Thank you for the free underpainting course! I just watched it, and it’s very helpful. Even the way you manage your materials, and control the mess is great to see. I’m so new to pastel, that every tip feels like gold
So glad you enjoyed the free Underpainting Course, Julia, and that you are finding nuggets along the way! All the best to you in your painting journey. Keep going!
Beautiful painting and lesson! You are an amazing teacher and artist Alain. Thanks!
Brillante 😀👏👏
What a wonderful light!!!!! Great video!!!
Amazing lesson from a great teacher.
Amazing touch of purple here and there Alan!

really love your stuff. When can we expect some more videos?
Thank your for these wonderful videos at no cost, much appreciated! Beautiful.
Thank you 🥰
Fantastic! So much in a short time! Happy holidays.
Yes, that is the exciting part of pastel painting in a suggestive manner!
such a gorgeous painting. Love the way you paint. Thank you and Merry Christmas
I love the top and back of this one and the glowing colours but the front right gives me the urge to add the detail of the delicate grasses.
That's great Sabine, I can't wait to find out how your version comes out! Share it on social media with me by tagging me @alainpicard on IG
Hullo Alain, I believe I have seen this picture before, yet you create a completely new painting from the same source! You refer to this as a study, yet I see a complete painting! Wonderful marks and feeling from the finished piece! I am trying to loosen up, this one of the reasons I am pursuing soft pastels! You have been an ever encouraging source of inspiration, Thank You. I hope I am doing well enough to participate in your landscape class in the new year. Please take care and be safe, Happy Holiday's to you and your family!
Thank you Michael, so glad you have found inspiration and value from the lesson! Merry Christmas to you
❤😊
Your painting was so much more exciting than the photograph!!! Thank you for sharing your wonderful talent. Wishing you and yours a blessed Merry Christmas 🙏. Looking forward to more creativity in 2022. 🥳
I love the impressionistic result! So different from your portraits. Viva versatility!
Commander Picard, permission to board the USS Pastel Enterprise!!! Wow 🤩 into the light!! Thank you 🙏 for this Maestro!! Such a beautiful painting. Merry Christmas to you and yours!!
Loved it. I think it looked great just as you left it, Alain. It was really lovely. Thanks for sharing it. Have you ever worked with Pan Pastels? I'd love to see a demo on those.
Thank you Renee, that is so kind. I've only worked a small amount with PanPastels. They are an interesting alternative to an underpainting, used dry. You know me, I love making marks, so that's why I haven't used them as much. All my best!
@@AlainPicard Yes and you do it so well . . . you remind me of a music conductor in a symphony . . . love to watch you paint.
Please what do you use to sign your paintings thanks
Hey, can I ask, how do you deal with man made straight lines? Your technique is great for living things and fluid curves but what about the straight lines in say a piano, how do you deal with that and keep it painterly while avoiding an architectural rendering? Thanks and keep up the great work
Lots of broken edges to keep the lines from getting overly sharp and straight is a good approach.
Thanks Alain, great tutorial. Question though, I see you use black easel board and also black masking tape. I’d love to know why, and what you used. Is it something you made it yourself?
I use a black backing board on my easel, and tape my art up with black tape. This is to keep it clean for video so you can focus on the art.
are you sharpening the charcoal sticks?
Please post the link to the reference photos
Beautiful, but pastels are not paints. They’re like charcoal as in a charcoal drawing. They are 100 percent eye medium, not paint. You can’t enter a pastel piece in a painting competition. Why not call it pastel art or pastel art?
You are incorrect. Soft pastel is a legitimate painting medium. You can win awards entering soft pastel paintings into exhibitions worth $1000's I have won many. A drawing in pastel is quite different than a painting in pastel.
Alain Picard is the Mr. Rogers of pastels
I'm going to take that as a compliment Ben! He was an encouraging and positive voice.
Hey they made movies about the guy and I grew up watching him so for sure a compliment! You have that same touch! We need to get in touch with Tom Hanks about a new flick…
@@bencote2219 that's very funny, and thanks!
