    Turntables is the best way to Dj Time code or vinyl in my opinion. It's more fun and it gives a Dj that nostalgic feeling.

    At the End of the Day, its all about the DJ themself.
    The Technology based DJ will always seek to mix using features based off of Serato/Tractor/Rekordbox etc.
    The Hybrid DJ is one who looks to have the flexibility to use VINYL and/or CD's while still using the features of Serato/Tractor/Rekordbox etc.
    The Purist DJ is one that sticks to using original formats like Vinyl or CD's.
    No way is a bad way! Period. Its choices to personalize how you mix.
    Ive been to parties recently where a DJ used 1200's spinning 45's and 12" inch records and turned that party into a crazy frenzy.
    Was at a festival where the legend DJ Jazzy Jeff through down his skills using Technics -SL-1200;s and Serato, The party was amazing, and he knew how to make that party jump up.
    Been to an EDM party as well and the DJ had a Pioneer controller and tore up the crowd.
    Anyway you look at it, the DJ knows how to work with the tools they have, there is no bad way of executing the job.

      I am guessing www.djhenraycustoms.com would make a set of straight customs RP-7000s if you wanted to spend the $, you might have to supply him with the Reloops though, he seems very Technics loyal but swaps out straights on Technics and I am guessing could do something similar on a clone.

    I bought my first set of Technics SL-1210's back in 1993 and after 20 years i switched to the Reloop's. I don't know about the pitch fader on the MK7 Technics but the pitch fader on the Reloop RP-8000 glides so smoothly while feeling heavy at the same time. The pitch fader on the Technics SL MK2 & M5G feels clunky and notchy in comparison.
    I've had all the above decks from new, this is how they are from the factory.
    Reloop pitch fader floats like it's on ice - Technics pitch fader grinds like it's on grit! I just wished the platter on the Reloop RP-8000 was counter sunk like a SL (and all the other reloops in there lineup) instead on spinning above the deck face plate.

    I went with rane 72 and 12. I owned the reloop RP 8000mk1. That was always my favorite even over technics. The midi buttons are very useful because you can have them set for cue points and if your mixer also has performance pads, you can have that set to stems or sampler. Whatever you like. I think I’m going to get another pair of reloop as well because I miss playing my records.

    Great Phil! First to mention the new Reloop I think :) . I haven't touched my vinyl collection in 24 years, when I converted to CD. A few years ago I sold my last Technics 1210, used once in 21 years, thinking such a piece should better be used. Now, I've been asked if I can play vinyl again. Retro style, I choose whatever music I have, but it's gotta be real vinyl... not time code. My first response was absolutely NO!... part because my schedule is pretty full 4-6 months ahead, and of course, it's a quarter of a century since I played vinyl. Then I learned that they are prepared to pay more for this than they do for regular digital DJ's, and I also got that nostalgia feeling that this could be rather fun, once in a while. To me, neither of these two new turntables is the most interesting, but rather the Reloop RP-7000Mk2 that came out half a year ago. To start playing vinyl again, if only limited and for fun, I'd need something close to my Technics 1210's I used to have and that doesn't blow my wallet... at most this will be once a month for a while unless more requests are coming in, which I doubt, but it's sure fun that old trades still matter in this business :) .

    Technics knew that the moment they start adding buttons for digital effects and what not on the SL-1200, the turntable would stop to be the legend that it is. The 1200 is a classic because it is timeless and timely. It is something you can own for a lifetime. Can you say that about the Reloop? It will become obsolete in no time, given how fast digital progresses. That's one reason I'm not a fan of, say for example, headphone amps with built-in DAC. In my opinion, if you want some digital, get a separate console you'll replace anyway in a few years. As to the pricing, what is 1200 dollars for a product that lasts and commands high resale value? If you check, you'll see how much price a used MK2 commands. As of writing, there's even a first gen MK2 on that auction site with an asking price of 1250 dollars. Just my 2 cents.

    It is my understanding that the Technics MK 7 has a lot of improvements under the hood etc. Motor is totally upgraded and different than all previous SL1200's I hear plus the plinth fabrication has been improved to reduce resonance. That's at least two things I have heard.

    • @grey9514
      @grey9514 5 років тому

      Seems plausible. Even my Reloops improved from the RP-8000 to the RP-8000s with the straight arm variant.
      Component sourcing didn't get harder after the world wide web, quality control, user feedback and such have improved too. It only makes sense that we should get better product available on the market.
      I am more suspicious of vendors who offer higher prices with less features, and some DJ vendors are guilty of that (e.g. look at the price of a Rane Empath circa 2004 contrasted with a Rane 72 circa now, and the Empath was a three channel mixer, MPCs aren't new, but building that feature set into a mixer was questionable with the TTM57SL, that it took off to the degree that it did is unsettling to me at least. I think the 57SL was great for its time and has aged better than mixers I have bought more recently, but Rane? They haven't aged well. Technics? Still innovating!)

      @Tech Soul MSP for The Technics is 1200 American BUT it's made in Malaysia. Has a new aluminum carbon fiber tonearm and no knock motor. Specs are not that great . The Reloop has better specs but they are a Hanpin so quality control will be iffy as usual. I think Technics is aiming at both the DJ market and the mid range hi Fi market with its new release.

    Reloop knocked it out of the park, I never wanted to spend damn near 2 grand on a mixer, now I don't have to, going to grab two Reloop 8000 MK2's and a cheap priced good mixer like that newer Pioneer DJSM3, and a pair of powered studio monitors for a sick bedroom setup, and it will be good enough for shows as well, I don't need a feature packed mixer with a Turntable like that, way to go Reloop, on the other hand the Technics FANBOYS will be happy to spend $2400 on a pair of TT's.....lol....For that price I will have an entire setup, and it will be DOPE AF!

    After playing with Technics at my regular DJ studio and my Reloop RP7000mk2 at home I can say that I prefer the Reloop. It responds much nicer and for some reason stays locked in better than the technics. I had a 3 hour session with 2 Technics and had to babysit the tracks so much. The lower torque on the Technics is especially annoying when you're used to the Reloop motor.

    Sound quality and durability are reasons why Technics SL 1200 MK2 and later models are still very popular and sought after, a decent Technics TT keeps it's value quite well (mine are 20y old and stil running like new!) This reloop willl be outdated (and worthless) in within 3 years I think. If you play vinyl, go for the Technics people, if you get tired of it, it will probably have decent resell value (just my 2 cents)! and they really sound good for dj'ing, punchy, dynamic!

    The reloops are exciting too, dont get me wrong they are very nice looking decks but honestly i wont be doing too many gigs and these tables seem to cater someone who is constantly on serato. Serato supports almost all midi controller so the pads feel gimmicky to me as i can plug a novation launchpad and have 64 pads to fk with.

      Digital DJ Tips thank you for the quick reply. I suppose the issue I’m having is I love mk2’s but I don’t have a pair anymore. I’d love something new, a new pair or 1200’s. When I started spinning around 2009 on Technics, even then I never had a new model. Like new sure. But I’m having trouble deciding on the Reloops vs mk7. After all the reviews and research the mk7 surely is a bit of a let down when compared to the durability of the mk2 or other technics models. Here’s the details for me, I love mk2’s and I could always tell and love the difference in the motor quality vs something like say Stantons turntables. I couldn’t find the quality I desired for scratching and even mixing in anything but Technics. They say that most other turntables are Handpin manufactured, that means if I were let down by Stanton and others I might be let down by the Reloops. I’d love the features offered by the Reloops turntables but not at the cost of the way the platter is moving and feeling. I’d rather have something more like a mk2 than a handpin with features. In that case, would you recommend the mk7? I really love Vinyl, the way it feels for performance. I will be on anDVS system and not really playing vinyl at shows often if at all. I’d get a sturdier mk2 for that. I feel the features offered by the Reloops can be added either with a quality dj mixer with pads, or the dice add on, which I personally love. Would love some feedback on this, thank you!

    • @digitaldjtips
      @digitaldjtips  4 роки тому +1

      You should try them! What is it you found so amazing about the Mk2 motors? Maybe you were just used to the torque (newer turntables actually have higher torque - in theory better, although it does feel different).
      For me, I think the Mk7s are just another "choice" among many now, and a somewhat overpriced one at that. Ultimately, get some refurbed Mk2s if your heart is telling you that - my go-to turntables are, and probably always will be, Technics 1210 Mk2s. Not because they are best - but why change what you've always used if it still works perfectly?

    • @josephflores4787
      @josephflores4787 4 роки тому

      Digital DJ Tips thanks for the reply again! Well yeah I suppose if this is true, newer turntables have higher torque and are in theory better than mk2’s, are they still Handpin made? What’s the difference between a Handpin made turntable and say a Technics? I’ve already settled on a Technics and made an order haha I couldn’t wait. I guess I just love Technics, and feel that I could get the same that Reloop has with novation dice. I also saw a review where the reviewer said the Reloop table went in and out of sync, basically the pitch wasn’t that great and essentially not great for mixing DJs. I just wouldn’t want to sit tweaking the pitch endlessly as I like to mix tracks for extended periods. All that being said, I’d love to test out s higher torque model and see how it feels! What would you recommend?

    Everyone keeps assuming that the build quality is going to be the same as the Mk1 and Mk2. I put it to all that this will not be the case. The likelihood of the internal parts not being made in China from Hanpin or some other major vendor of the chips needed to build a modern turntable is slim. Heck the only reason they'd not use Hanpin is because of the backlash that would ensue.
    The price issue has less to do then with anything other than them trying to charge for nostalgia. In no way this turntable could be 'better' than any of the current OEMs and even if it is could we honestly say that it's a couple hundred dollars better? I have 3 pairs of Mk2 1200s home, and won't part with them, but my next turntable will be a used LP1240 or ST150 or Reloop 7000. If I *had* to buy new I'd buy the Statnton 150 Mk2, Reloop 7000 Mk1 or for features, the 8000Mk2...
    My two cents.

      The Technics SL-1210 MK7 is selling for £799 not £1230 there is this thing called inflation and when you back calculate it the price of £799 is actually a lot cheaper than it would have been in the mid 90's when the DJ scene was (arguably) at it's peek and it was selling for £500. I've never got my hands on a Reloop so I cant comment but the Audio Technica 1240 and pioneer plx 1000 are not a patch on even a 30 year old SL-1200, and don't get me started on the plastic fantastic Stanton TT's. When you factor in that the Technics will probably out live it's owner and the parts/spares will be easily available for decades the extra £300 in today's money is well worth it.

    I love Technics I own 3 of them BUT my opinion is Technics should’ve built a turntable similar like the Rane without the tone arm. AGAIN they dropped the ball. TECHNICS as we all know it they are the KING OF TURNTABLES. SO why they just came up with a modern one with the same power and quality as the old ones that will appeal to the younger generation djs. I was hoping for this then Rane came out with their own and I was impress but the price for me too high. That’s my opinion.

    • @grey9514
      @grey9514 5 років тому +1

      Technics have been building turntables without tonearms for longer than Rane existed as a company. Rane is dead, owned by inMusic now.
      Look into the SP-10 as a primer, 1970, direct drive, tonearm sold separately.
      An SP-10, even from 1970 and a tonearm, will still cost you more than a Rane Twelve.
      You want a controller apparently, not a vinyl playback device. They are not the same thing.
      I doubt you could even afford a Technics SP-10R. Geeze they must sound amazing, but I think that might be lost on you no matter how many you own.

I don't know about that and having been through enough corporate acquisitions and witnessed a lot of other companies endure innovator fallout, I don't see anything coming out of Rane since the acquisition that made me interested in their offerings.
      The turntables without tonearms are hardly new, but the Rane Twelve isn't aspiring to be paired with an audiophile tonearm though, I didn't intend for that phrasing to be read as a personal attack, but to me, a Rane Twelve is just a controller, and an extremely expensive one without much programmability to make it even slightly worth the price for me at least. I couldn't care less if the market made more Twelve like devices, I don't own any turntables without tonearms either, but they certainly exist. Nelson's opinion didn't really seem to acknowledge the reality of Technics larger product range.

    Technics have been very clever about this IMO, lets face it the real reason they re-entered the the turntable/HiFi market has nothing to do with DJ's and everything to do with the vinyl revival, for every pair of these purchased by a DJ they will sell 10 to hipsters so they can "ironically" listen to their granddads Perry Como records and another 20 will go to the wannabe audiophiles who can't afford one of the SL-1200G series. If they added all the stuff Reloop did it would only appeal to DJ's and they would lose 75% of their sales.

    If you are going to do a lame first look you may as well have said it looks the same so it is the same and be done with it, the specs on the Mk7 are very different to the mk2. This could be why people actually want to go back to the old days and start spinning vinyl again. Honestly? They broke it. If they'd just updated the Mk2-5 (which Mk7 suggests) all would be well. This is a different turntable though - wait till you see/feel it.

    Feels like technics is coming in way too little, way too late. Those things needed the "new" upgrades like 20 years ago. Personally, feels like they're going after the "I only play vinyl" crowd. Which is fine, but seems to vastly limit your ability to do much more than play special vinyl only nights which seem to mostly be filled with other vinyl only djs critiquing your every move (I'm sure a great way to improve your skills if everyone is supportive and not just trash talking).
    I doubt it's gonna make a huge splash to release a 50 year old turntable. Guess we'll see, hopefully it was a good move for them.
    The potential of the reloop seems much better. Doubt I'd buy them, but would be awesome to see continued innovation in turntable size controllers. Every innovation in the digital world seems to be met with interesting creativity from controllerist/turntablist groups, so even if I never do that, would love to see the craziness from the community who does

      This is a recording of a livestream, Marc - it's how they roll :) Our pre-recorded videos are much more concise.

    The Technics are a joke at that price..but they will sell like hot cakes because of nostalgia and old skool mentality. On a plus side they will last forever!! As for the ufo looking thing...no comment.

      A better price than some of their recent offerings though lol :)
