I love that 4K version still have a natural film grain and all the details. 2010 blu ray is horrible.
Agree !
Yup, has that natural picture. Looks great. Totally worth the 4K upgrade for the collection.
Yeah. But the Blu-ray is still the goddamn plastic shit "Ultimate Edition." They fucked us out of this 4K transfer.
You're right. I just play it and its this fucking noise reduction crap from Ultimate Edition. But 4k hdr looks insane. I love it. I will never go back to normal blu ray version.
I guess I'll crack open this 4K version I just bought and sell the other two UHE copies to the nearest pawn shop....
I’ll buy the 4k version it’s extremely detailed and looks sexy tho
4k looks way better here
And good to see they left the grain in so people don't look like clay.
I swear there is one scenes in the bluray where Dutch and Dillon look a tad plasticky but nothing major and everyone jumps on this clay or wax bandwagon.
It's insane. The bluray to the normal person looks fine.
Yeah the DNR on the bluray was horrific.
@@paulmidgley8040 What do you think about Terminator 2 4k?
That is an insane difference.
Rly?
@@ivanisization yeah, 'Rly', this is one of the best 4k upgrades out there, standard blu ray makes it look like an in engine Un'rl' Engine cutscene.
The difference on the predator without his mask is really big and good. 😊👍
Looks like a contrast setting and color saturation issue than a resolution issue. Looks like the blu-ray release was produced with a lower contrast to hide the film grain.
yes why do they call this 4k since it is all about color and not about resolution. Maybe I should stick to Blu-ray fullHD = 1080p.
@@Alphadec its about resolution as well. They didn't just upgraded the previous blu ray. Its totally different scans. You can clearly see the difference even from these screenshots.
Superb comparison shot to shot. Keep these videos coming.
Even though the 2010 Blu-Ray looked impressive for it's time, this 4K Transfer is basically Night and Day!! I want to get the 4-Movie collection though, but this looks REALLY impressive nonetheless!!
The 2010 Blu-ray looked like complete garbage ever since it came out. It was universally hated for the DNR applied, and rightfully so. It is ugly and everyone looks waxy.
@@Rilumai ~ It was the Ultimate Edition that was released years later that was waxy as hell. The earlier release was grainy, but better than the DNR disaster
@@CastlesForEyes The Ultimate Edition *is* the 2010 release. The other release was from 2008.
Hell yeah 👍
Thanks for sharing... definitely going to watch it in 4k.. thanks again
The Blu-ray version was hilarious. I swear there are scenes where they look like animated characters.
True mate, I just got the 4k version for 12 quid, the blu ray I still have but it looks like a Unreal Engine cutscence in engine.
The 2008 BR original release looked a lot closer to the theatrical look of the film. The 4K pretty much nailed it.
2:40 is where it looks awesome. His wrist suddenly gains more detail, and the red lights are sharper and glow better.
I like em both but would lean toward more grain and detail.
Oh man! Was that VHS vs UHD comparison? Impressive!
Ha ha !!!!
You didn't show any pictures from the thermal vision
Hope there isn't too much grain in the 4k. Don't want to go from waxy faces (Blu-ray) to mosquitos crawling across my screen.
That’s exactly what it looks like…I don’t know which one I like better, 4K or Blu-ray? On one hand I can see the details and color look better on 4K but all that grain and then the Blu-ray looks clean but it also looks like it has a film over it.🤷🏻♂️
This is the opposite of what happened to T2, predator blu-ray is dnr to death, T2 4k is dnr to death! Avoid these versions!
Is the one from the 3 movie collection with atmos track? I have a slipcover version buts it's dts ma just wondering
No unfortunately. There is no Atmos track on the first movie 😢!!
Looks like they tried to brighten the footage to no avail, just added way too much noise. But on the other hand I am blown away by the difference in that flare
They didn't add any noise. The 2010 version scrubbed all of the film grain away. The 4K version is a much better representation of how the film originally looked with the film grain intact.
They didn't add noise. Film has noise regardless. How is this so hard to grasp for some people?
The 4K looks better in every shot. Thanks for sharing.
Good video like the Predator 2 one
Ist die deutsche Tonspur auf der 4K -UHD wieder ohne Dynamik? Lasst es mich wissen, Bild sieht super aus.
I find that the 4k looks better but darker than this video shows here, night time scenes appear too bright here, , Iam so glad they resolved the DNR issues that the blu ray hunter edition was littered with, at last this looks like film, it's clear yet retains it's gritty and dark look
Call me crazy but I prefer the Blu Ray . I like the film to look dark and muddy in the darker scenes because that’s close to how the film came out in cinemas . That being said that is an exceptional transfer nonetheless
Me too. I prefer the look of the bluray. It's closer to the original VHS version.
You crazy
What lol the original had grain, a lot of it. The 2010 did an awful DNR job. Either choose the original 2008 Blu-Ray release or the 4K.
@@al112v4 You’re right . When I finally got it on 4K and watched it I see that it was as close to a theatrical print as you are ever gonna get on disc , so yeah the 4K is the daddy . UA-cam comparisons don’t really reveal the true transfers until you watch them yourself
Where I can download 4k edition
I never seen such huge difference ever for a catalogue 4k title. You made me upgrade to 4k edition. Too bad it doesn't have atmos or dtsx but is the 5.1 audio any good. I placed order anyways. Just like to know what to expect audio wise.
You have been deceived. This 4k edit just made the film brighter and grainier. The movie has lost all its charm...
@@Gollunsss on what system did you even watched the 4k? Do a comparison with the blu ray and you ll see detail was muted in the blu ray.
Hey can u do a Alien vs Predator 1 and 2 blu ray vs dvd cause there’s no 4K?
If I have time yes !
BD is looking blurry, DNR heavy, low detailed, washed out and lacking contrast in all scene. I can't conceive how people would still prefer the BD when they can clearly see that the 4K remaster is soooooooooo much better visually, it is beyond my understanding 😲
I'm happy to have switch to 4K in 2023. For this movie alone, the switch worth it even if the audio track hasn't been updated, it still a very good one 😁
So, does this mean that the regular blu-ray edition of the 3-movie collection is the same as the 2010 blu-ray, or is it better like the 4K transfer?
Hmmmm.....close !
My moonization so is the same or better I had this question as well
Like I said, close !!
I have the 3 movie 4k set and yes, the 1080p bluray is the bad 2010 DNR version.
Confirmed on bluray.com: www.blu-ray.com/movies/Predator-4K-Blu-ray/206291/#Review
"It's important to also note that the 1080p Blu-ray disc included with this release is the Ultimate Hunter Edition, which many fans consider to have substandard video quality"
Maybe you should do a comparison?
I just Predator with the 2010 blu ray and thought that alone was clear and bright jungle scenes than the old dvd and now theres a 4K that beats the blu ray???? Come one this is ridiculous that I now have to buy my classics again like Terminator and Aliens
So they essentially tweaked the brightness in the 4k version?
And they got rid of the shitty DNR so the film grain was left intact, as it should be. So people don’t look like wax figures anymore.
In comparisons like these, it shows how poor the blu ray transfer was.
Anything is better than waxy Arnie and smeared tones all over. Anything is better than 2010 Predator blu-ray
2010 is better
There are a lot of noise in the 4K edition. Is that better?
It’s not a noise but the grain of the film.
It’s more natural 👍 !
It's a preference, I hate too much grain in movies, makes it look a mess.
Wow, it's like night and day. WAY different than the comparison for Christine where the 4K seems way too dark!
Have you thought about taking the 2010 Predator Blu-ray and comparing it with the 2018 Blu-ray? I wonder if it's the same transfer...?
Frankly I hate this version :))
You hate the 4K version? or is that sarcasm?
I mean the movie only !
You don't like Predator?!?! How dare you! Kidding, of course.
Don’t get me wrong Lance.
I love Predator 1 and 2 but not the rest !!
Blu-Ray 3d look better
The 4K is much better
Is the sound better or the same as the br version then.?.
Frankly......no !!
Pity they couldn't tone down the distracting grain on the new 4k release.
They tried that with the Ultimate Edition Blu-ray and the actors looked like CGI at times. It's down to the way it was shot, no real avoiding it. Other McTiernan films look similar
@@CastlesForEyes True but that was over a decade ago. There is surely much more refined software available these days that would tone the grain down without making it look waxy. The Ultimate edition had the right idea they just went overboard with it.
I recently re-watched it on 4k and some of the scenes would make you nauseous there's so much grain dancing about the screen.
I have same version of 4K, but in Bluray, I played it with my 4K Upscale Bluray player and it looks way way better than the Bluray here in the video, but of course not as great as the 4K edition
there is no Blu-Ray version of the 4K image. The Blu-Ray of Predator in the 4k Collection is the same old master and disc of the butchered Ultimate Hunter Edition. So I dont know what you are talking about.
@@DiamondDead it's the same new transfer for the Blu-ray trilogy package that came along with this 4K release
@@DiamondDead you are the one who doesn't know what he's talking about
Predator BluRay was well known as being awful. This is a huge upgrade and with 4 movies for $37 it's a steal. Thanks again, your channel really is the best 4K review out there.
Only VHS
Laserdisc ;)
and to think James Cameron is still doing to his films what they did to predator in 2010...
So basically one is brighter than the other
Wrong, you Forget the resolution too and the HDR. Sorry Berk !
Best Image to look at is The Predator standing. Look at his his wrist. More detail and red light are sharper.
It's 4 times better
No contest
A versão em 3d lançada em 2013 brasileira da um show nesse relançamento porco é cheio de granulação nesse quesito a versão 3d remasterizada em full HD ainda é a melhor
Doesn't really show Tru comparison since this video is only 720p
It's 1440p
To everyone, saying they just brightened the pic for 4k please watch the comparison at 3:03 thanks.
I used to watch this on vhs recorded from tv and didnt give a shit..Dies it really fuckin mattet?
Predator 2010 bluray is much lighter because it was made 3D in mind so idk what this video is but its kinda wrong
Cmon people 4k is a bright noise mess
its just brighter....nothing more
Its not just bright
No
And then you get Sony tv with wrong DV implementation and everything looks dark and washed out :/
Blu ray looks more natural, with a darker atmosphere here. This 4k sounds forced and grainy. The look of the blu-ray matches the Predator movie more!
einfach nur heller!!! mehr nicht
420
its like they just upped the brightness and colour and added some noise/grain for some fake sharpness
This is the best result you can get with this film. Natural grain + great HDR10 !!
Watch at 3:03 and see the difference
Added noise/grain for some fake sharpness......... Really? Added grain? For FAKE sharpness? No, man, come on... The grain was present on the original negative and it IS the detail we see in the image. The 4K release is the best home media release we have and the closest to how the film originally looked and it looks fantastic.
I live the dnr. The one thing I can't stand is film noise and the blu Ray has none of it. It may not be that detailed but I just prefer it not to look a mess
moosehak film grain > crappy dnr. I’ll take film grain and detail any day compared to dnr making people’s faces looking like a mess of clay!
How does an image that is as close to the way the film originally looked messy? The DNR is what looks messy. They look like damn wax figures...
The original form 4:3 to 16:9 is better; it's exposed correctly and the color curve is more natural due to analog film. HDR doesn't magically make things vivid, brighter and/or over exposed like in this remaster. The movie was done in a dark tone for a reason. This remaster destroyed it. All they had to do was convert it and leave it alone - no correction needed to be done because they used quality film (16:9) and low-light lenses. These movies where cropped due to tube TVs being 4:3.
Not worth the upgrade.
Don’t get the film grain thing
The grain is more natural Adam !!
@@Mymoonization why people say they only tuned the contrast/brightness and not the resolution itself though?
As a matter of fact, I really don’t know. But most importantly, it's your opinion that counts, not those of people.
PREDATOR ULTIMATE HUNTER EDITION BLU-RAY IS VERY BETTER PICTURE QUALITY. IS MUCH BETTER IS BLU-RAY EDITION (2010) 4K IN MOVIE IS RESET OLD PICTURE QUALITY. THE 2010 IS VERY COOL RESTORATION. ULTRA HD BLU-RAY. NOT...BAD......NOT.....BAD ALL. FOR ME THE ULTIMATE HUNTER EDITION BLU-RAY (2010) THAN TRUE RESTORED PICTURES ELEMENTS + DIGITAL RESTORED COLORS. TERMINATOR 2 JUDGMENT DAY ULTRA HD BLU-RAY IS VERY PICTURES QUALITY👍 A BLU-RAY TOO BEAUTIFUL PICTURES
I prefer the bluray. The problem with many 4k editions is that they look too crisp, but nothing like they were originally. One thing is to have darkness with grain with great definition. The other is to have a bright, heavily detailed sunny version of a movie that was supposed to be dark in the first place.
If you only ever saw the movie on VHS, you have no understanding of what it was *meant* to look like, because that can only be levied against a theatrical presentation and sometimes not even then.
@@NiteOwlJoe I saw Predator at the thatre when it came out. I guess that answers.
