  • Day to Day Work on the Golf Homestead NEVER Ends. We get a lot of work done this week between mowing, weed-eating, spraying grass killer, and trail maintenance. We use nearly all our equipment including the Mahindra tractor, finishing mower, Stihl weed eater, Stihl saw attachment, and John Deere Gator. We are not far from getting started with landscaping to prepare for fall sowing.

Very likely, but at this time of year, its mainly just crab grass, so I'm just trying to get it ready to cut real low and do a heavy over seed this fall.

I'm a golf lover so was quite happy to see your home-made course. However, I also am a nature fan and was disappointed to see your huge yard. You are really filling the air with carbon. Is it possible to convert to electric tools or is that not something you want to do? Certainly seems financially possible for you. Please don't be too upset with my thoughts as it is your beautiful place and your life but I feel we all need to do what we can to get our planet clean again. Your children will benefit. Also looking forward to seeing some golf!

Tough one to answer here because we do take this topic serious, but it's tough to do much regarding the yard equipment. When we built the house, we put extra into making it as energy efficient as possible, and it has made a big difference for us in a positive way! We also recycle every/anything that we can, even though I have to take it somewhere and don't have roadside recycle service like we did in the city. For the equipment though, I have to have the most power possible to be able to get things done efficiently, and the tractor and mower are probably the two critical pieces that I use the most (about once per week). There's no way I would be able to go to an electric mower right now, but it's something maybe possible in the future. There's also no way I could get by without the tractor, however, at some point I will need a newer model, and I believe the newer models are being built to be cleaner which would be nice. I just had to get a new truck with more towing power, but it is likely cleaner than my old truck as it is built with an exhaust cleaning system which the old one didn't have. If you think about golf courses overall though, it's tough because a lot of courses have a whole fleet of mowers, tractors, trucks, and power tools that get used on a daily basis, and I doubt they would go electric unless there were much more affordable and powerful options in the market. Thanks for following and do know that this is something we don't take lightly!
