- Greetings All and Welcome to Dave's Craft Room where on today's video I show my English paper piecing quilt which I pieced by hand with needle and thread over two years. thank you and I hope you enjoy my video !
My footage of showing I do EPP was not super great but here are two tutorials that I used when I learned how to do it:
Stitch Sisters
• How To Do English Pape...
Mx Domestic:
• English Paper Piecing:... - Навчання та стиль
Came for the quilt progress, stayed for the moustache development ;)
Another amazing quilt Dave! My hexie quilt is up to about 4 years and that's with 2.5" hexies and only single bed sized!! Astounded as ever by your skills and dedication
Dave, I love this amazing quilt. It is a masterpiece. I hope you are proud of it, I can tell it means an awful lot to you. How your back holds up, I have no idea because there is such physical effort putting it all together on the floor. It was lovely to see you and your mother working at the quilt together. A truly touching video tonight, I am in awe of you! ❤
1. Hi Mom! 2. What an accomplishment and the memories! I have a Dresden that will be 100% by hand. I'm doing quilt as you go and im at the stage of hand quilting. It's an extra special quilt for me because I started in our RV to do while glamping, but later it became a project my sister and i worked on together. She has since passed, so it already means a lot. ❤ 3. You are funny as hell, no DRAMA over pre-washing! I love it! 😂
I’m two years into my hexi quilt. I am in awe of your quilts. This one is a work of art! Travel, fabric from far away places, quarantine, exotic food, lunch box travel case, haunted apartment, dramatic music! This video has it all! I’m so inspired, I will finish my EPP quilt, I pledge to the completion of this Herculean task! Thank you Dave!
Loved this video. I'm doing a 1 inch hexy quilt as well. It's also going to be a very long term project. My travel kit is a 6 inch biscuit tin that has been with me on multiday hikes, bike rides and also comes to work. Thanks for showing us this lovely marathon project.
I did the same thing with my Raggedy Ann Quilt. So glad I did it in my 30s. I'm 63 now and no way I'd start another stitched by hand Quilt. I had a x friend that offered me 100 dollars for that Quilt. I could have just slapped her. Over 2 years of sewing not to mention all the hunting I did looking for Raggedy Ann and Andy fabric. Sometimes making a theme Quilt it's harder to find fabric in the theme than making the quilt itself. I never sell my quilts they are always gifts for friends and family. But to offer someone only 100 dollars for 2 years of work I paid twice that for the fabric. I know you can understand the insult I felt over her offer. I may have just gave it to her if she hadn't upset me so much with that offer.
I feel this so much… most non-quilters just don’t get it 😖
There is no way words can express how much I am enjoying this video! Thank you for taking us around the world with you! The quilt is AMAZING!
Fantastic! This quilt is a masterpiece. I sincerely hope you winter it in a quilt show at some point. It’s like a visual diary of your life and travels during the time of Covid. I applaud your patience.
This is the most extraordinary quilt I have ever seen! Your persistence is mind blowing!
I started with my first ever sewing project in May 2020 during Covid. As a nurse, I felt it was good for my mental well being, coupled with the fact that we had strict lockdowns in Melbourne Australia. I had never sewn anything before. It was a queen sized reversible story/photo/memory quilt for my granddaughter in South Africa. I hand pieced all the irregular blocks and hand quilted the entire quilt. The centre piece was landscaped with wavy sections with a large tree and different scenarios and I put photos all over. Around this block were 20 photos starting from the scan to the caesarean section to the baptism and all the grandparents and great grandparents. I delivered it in 2022 and continued to sew as we were transiting through Croatia. I finally finished the quilt a month into my holiday. It took me two years. I am now making a quilt of all my son’s hoodies, also reversible. On the front is the history of his career and family, the backing consists of the hoodies. I am now busy exactly a year. I still have maybe two more months to go. Then I have two other quilts to make for my other children😅
🌎❤WOW Dave...You always amaze me!! Now you are a world traveler🌎YOU have inspired me to make one of these quilts now❣
I rewatched this video because it’s one of my favorites. I absolutely love your artwork!
What a marvelous piece of history you've created. I loved seeing the pieces of your life as you put together the pieces of this amazing quilt. Thanks so much.
that is an awesome "HandDaved" quilt!
What a wonderful quilt! Your travel & life documented in fabric! Loved seeing your mom working with you. I admire your dedication & commitment to handstitching the entire quilt!
Having only recently watched the pincushion video, I laughed out loud at “PREMONITION”! 😂😂😂
My first hand project also wound up being a king-sized EPP hexi quilt! I am not done quilting it (I used fleece for the back and it's too warm to have on my lap in the summer, so it's been put aside until fall!) but I'm already missing the first parts of the project and can't wait until I'm done with my first so I can start my second!
That quilt is absolutely stunning
Beautiful, beautiful quilt. Thank you for sharing this - so much to learn from it.
I give you much credit with sticking with the project. I made one totally by hand using diamond shape with no papers in my spare time . I hand quilted it in clam shell design. Won big ribbon at county fair.
I strip quilt by machine and EPP by hand. I don't put batting, but I use a flannel backing - no drama😂😂
You absolutely are the most fascinating person. Your quilt journey is a joy to follow. I'd love to know what your career is. Your employers don't deserve you, that's what I do know! You are a genius.
Boy oh boy, that's a treasure!
I absolutely love your quilting adventures !!!!! Please write a book, I would love to read it. Your life is amazing !!!!
This has inspired me to get my hexi quilt done. I dug it out from under my bed.
Oh no, Dave! What have you started? I picked up an old EPP hexie project (about 21 hexies) that I had left in obscurity for years.
Now I have started it up again with fresh new fabric scraps and it is TOO ADDICTIVE!!❤❤😅😅😊
Amazing, absolutely fantastic! This quilt, the effort, creativity and time you put into it screams Meisterstück! Thanks for the time and effort you put into filming of your video. I can see you 20 years from now admiring your quilt, thinking “ 36:19Wow, just look what I did!!”
Fantastic quilt and lots of memories when you look at it. I Admire your patience and love of quilting. Thank you for sharing.
I love your style- unapologetic, totally original, and FUN! Thank you so much for sharing. I’m watching UA-cam because I need some inspiration to carry on with my first EPP project. Your project and video is epically inspiring.
Your hexi quilt is stunning. Beautiful fabrics variety. You accomplished an incredible amount in just 2 years. Another masterpiece. Lovely to spot your mom helping. Such fun
No comment just sayn I concur - you know what I’m talking about. Amazed you didn’t give up. Love your creativity.
I do not English Paper Piece. But I have watched a few of your tutorials. This one came through my feed with my same 90's lunch box! I now have a better use for this oldie lunch box!
I had no idea you travel so much with your work. Beautiful quilt !
Just no words. Congratulations, Dave, and thank you for sharing this journey with us!
Congratulations 🎊🎉🎈 I’m so impressed at that 2 year quilt project! And it has such meaning and memories. I almost cried! 😢
Is it possible to like the video twice? No? Well, a comment then! Thanks Dave for your videos! ❤
Dave, You are amazing. Your quilt is gorgeous, beautiful, unique. I love all your videos. Your creativity is inspiring.
My grandmother made her quilts with "paper piecing" and did a lot of hand sewing them together. The one thing she didn't do was the quilting. She hired that iut with someone who had a longarm quilter. She made quilts for so many of her grandkids and as wedding gifts. I remember her making my uncle a diuble wedding ring for his wedding gift. Hmm. That was a long time ago. I wonder if my Aunt still has it. I wonder how many holes it has if any? My sister and i was made a "sunbonnet sue" quit. I have no idea whatsoever happened to those quilts. I was so little but i remember looking at each block with amazed wonder of how special that quilt was. Now is love to make my great grand daughter and son a quilt. Ive never made a quilt . As soon as i can deside what design and color scheme for them. I will. My sweet Frankie just started her preschool ❣️🥰🥰💖
Just luv it! Congratulations from Texas. Still working on mine, started when covid hit. FANTASTIC job. Such a memory quilt to be treasured.
You are insane in the best way. The quilt is spectacular! Congratulations!
Wauw, the quilt turned out gourgeous!
I love the randomness of the colors, mostly floral, sort of not. BIG florals, little ones ! )))
I inherited a chocolate cocoa tin filled with florals but never decided to finish it. Now I know I can even if there are not enough pieces to fit my bed. If I safety pin the "blocks" to a sheet I can see how many more hexies I'd have to make to fill it out. THANKS )))
I do not have the vocabulary for this EPIC quilt! DANG is just not gonna cut it. 😵💫 SEW. VERY. COOL!!!!!! I am a counter, if you ever have a few minutes to spare please update us with the number of hexies in that sucker! I have done 30 of 39 units needed for my own hexie EPP quilt, but there’s still a bunch to do after that. Started in Oct 21. Love the music, the stache, the stories/memories, and the quilt is AMAZING!💚💕👍🏼
Delivery of vid is great/with great music..all hand made quilts r precious..!in the end you get two??! Years of a person’s life & work..!
Awesome quilt. Loved the John Lennon glasses. Thanks for sharing
Wow the lunch box hexie kit is a great idea!❤ and your quilt is lovely. I'm beavering away on my own hexie quilt going on 2 years now.
Wow! God bless you for the patience you have, to finish such a huge job. Beautiful quilt!
I did my very first quilt ever as a hand stitched hexi 1" took me about the same amount of time. I started thinking it would be a couch quilt then a single, then a double and I just kept going. Sewed it all over Canada and Mexico. Not as wordly as yours!! Love it. It is my favourite of all and how I like to make them.
what the HEX ! I managed to make a 3x5 size and I was done w/ the hex-great job
Absolutely beautiful! You should be so proud of your work!
👏👏👏👏👏😲😲😲Красота!!!! Браво!!!
Welcome to the Hexagon quilt by hand club. I started mine in June and finished on Thanksgiving Day. Waited a year and hand quilted it. That took six months (life with children). King size. I added a sand path to the green path. ❤❤
Young man, this is a work of art. Well done, you shouldn’t be ‘shook ‘disheveled‘destroyed…….. you be ‘pleased and’proud as a peacock. It’s fantastic to see a Hexie Quilt actually FINISHED, and a King size, 100%hand pieced, hand stitched and HAND QUILTED. A HUGE ACHIEVEMENT. It has so many memories and you have stitched them all in. You have inspired me to get out my hexie box and find a few memories to stitch in place. I think I’ll have to divide mine into 4 different boxes, one for each grandchild. Then, after my days…… who knows if the quilts will be finished or in their boxes with Hexies ready to go. Then it will be up to them……. I’ll leave plenty of papers and material, needles and threads and a small ‘how to’. And love ❤from Nanny. Yes, thankyou for reminding me about my own Hexie box. Good luck for the future, love from Belfast NI.
A person could look at this for a long long time. Love it.
I enjoy making my own hexie templates. I trace one of the store-bought plastic ones onto thin cardboard from soda packaging, cereal boxes, etc. and cut them out. It’s amazing how much of that cardboard would go straight to trash (or recycle bin.) 🙂
Amazing quilt….I love it!
Wonderful keepsake for you to treasure of all your memories from around the world!
Wow! Impressive! And, so many memories!
Hey Dave! Glad I came across your video on hexies. I love hand sewing them. And I love your big Nexus quilt. I've wanted to make one for forever. Thanks for giving me some great ideas.
Wow Dave! This quilt is spectacular. You are very creative.
Kate at @TheLastHomelyHouse is a EPP hand quilting inspiration!
I’m enjoying watching a few of your videos and you make it so interesting. Love this quilt also!
This is absolutely beautiful. I just started a hexagon quilt- yours is an inspiration to me to finish mine.
WOW, WOW, WOW!!! Unbelievable Dave. You've outdone yourself.

The places you have been love love love the outcome.of this quilt Keep doing the amazing work that you do. I love watching your episodes. this quilt will have great memories for you and in the-years to come. ❤
m super mad and hella jealous, dave. I spent thirteen years traveling thge world and would only do knitting bc it was too much to carry quilting shit everywhere. Never thought to take on EPP in my travels. Love seeing you travel, its having an itchy feet effect on me. Rock on and keep quilting. I mostly sew quilts by hand, should have thought of this 15 years agio!
I love your little emoji hexagons there fantastic
Wow ! This is awesome! What a great quilt this will be! Really special you are picking up fabrics from your travels! You’ve inspired me! I love EPP! Stumbled onto your videos.
Your amazing I enjoy watching your transformation of your EPP
That’s a fantastic hand stitched quilt! You rock!
Absolutely incredible quilt!
Washing and drying is a must do in my book too! I was told to do because some fabrics shrink which could ruin your work in the long run. Loving your videos.
What a wonderful journey! I love the exuberant spontaneity of your quilt! I have one thats queen size that was tied and needs a few repairs and quilting I'm encouraged to tackle the project and start a new one 🎉❤
Amazing job❤👍🤗
Bravo! For many aspects of this glorious project, bravo!
Awesome chronicle! (I think I want your job--so cool to go to so many places & develop so many great memories. Super jealous of getting to go to the different fabric stores, too!)
I like to use flannel sheets on the back of my quilts also. I have been working on a Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt top (E.P.P.) for well over ten years. It is my "Hurry up and wait" quilt project. It is easy to take along with me, for those times when my short wait turns into over an hour wait at the doctor's office. I don't know if I will ever finish this quilt top; because, I have already used some of the flowers as appliques on a Double Wedding Rings quilt (in the center of the big vacant fields between the rings). Your quilt is beautiful and one of a kind,
Amazing "chunks" in your scrappy hexie quilt. So great that you get to travel to so many interesting places for your work. Beautiful quilt Dave.👏♥️🇦🇺
Magnificent! I usually speed up my video-watching, but for this one, I watched the reveal in slo-mo. I wanted to see every single section. Well done. Thank you for sharing all you do 💕
That quilt is amazing!!
Your quilt is beautiful. I totally agree with you about the glue basting. I stopped glue basting because my quilt top felt stiff.
Totally awesome and incredible!
CONGRATULATIONS, JOB WELL DONE.
Your joining technique is very smooth. Thanks.
Loved this video and your quilt! So fun to watch Dave!
OMG! I love it. I'm working on one also. I love the lunch box kit. Mine is a plastic tackle box. I've been making flowers.
Fabulous , fantastic, amazing work Dave. Congratulations!!!
You are amazing!! Keep sewing, I love it. 😉❤️
A beautiful piece of art work and teflects so much of yourself. Impressive ❤ UK
its a birth of art.
An amazing quilt, pieced by an amazing quilting person. Dave, this is a remarkable hand sewn journal of your travels and life in general. So much patience required. Thank you for allowing us to have this look into your life. Love seeing you and your mum working on this quilt together.
It's beautiful! What an amazing accomplishment.
Beautiful job. What a treasure. I hope you keep it forever. So many memories are sewn in your quilt. Fantastic!!
It really became an epic quilt and it looks awesome! I find it hard to visualize how I'm going to do things I've never done before, which is why most of my learning is done through videos. (It would be a lot easier if my brain chose the easiest route to the finish instead of over a quarry and down a rabbit hole, but alas 😅) Thanks for showing how I could travel with handsewing and work with a large quilting process. Hope you enjoy your quilt full of memories.
Absolutely MAGNIFICENT! Well done! What an amazing “story” piece of art💕. Love it! You are to be highly commended and congratulated! Thank you for sharing ☺️
Dave you are an amazing quilter. No other words can describe your patience to hand quilt. Just amazing!
M doing my hexi now while watching your video. It's so addictive and rewarding to see the result
This quilt is EPIC!!!! ❤🎉🎉🎉
Ahahahahahah. I thought you spilt your coffee until I realized it was your pincushion! You and your mother inspired me to make one of my own! I found a really cool cactus for my creation! 🌵 Merry Christmas 🎄 Dave!
You are such an inspiration!
It took 320 1” hexies to make my table runner. I’m not sure if I would live long enough to make a hexie king sized quilt. I’m thinking of making a few placemats with my leftover hexies and call it a day (really a year). I’m amazed you got this done along with all the other quilts you have made.
You are so much fun! You say everything that so many of do not say when we are working on a epp. No hold barred, you are such a wonderful addition to the quilting community! ❤
A big WOW!!! ❤
