I have watched several of your tutorials now. I am an elderly quilter who prefers to not buy patterns, but to kind of freelance each quilt for the person. I honestly believe you are a quilting genius. You think outside the box and you make it happen. I am so glad I have found your quilting craft room. I have learned many things from you. Keep up the exceptional tutorials. I for one am a huge fan of your tutorials.
My sister was stationed in Okinawa. She told us that there were graves everywhere. However, the native people were wonderful. I have found that small spools will work inside cones. Your quilt turned out very nice. It looks much older than it is. Thank you for this lesson.
I went to Japan with my daughter for 17 days! We traveled by the incredible train system, a variety of buses, and wonderfully clean taxi service cars. I loved talking to so many of the people of Japan everywhere we went. I arrived with one small Aloha print backpack and returned with two new rolling suitcases filled with heavy vintage kimonos, silk jackets, and cotton yukatas new and old. The most wonderful trip into the most beautiful and culture packed traditional experience of my life. My sewing room/ guest bedroom is and has become my space to surround myself with so many treasures to my eyes all stitched and woven in textiles. This explains in part why this is definingly my favorite quilt you have made so far. Also, A special Thanks to your boss that has allowed you to grow within your work which truly is how people come to put joy and their selfs into a Company. 💕💕
I'm really enjoying your videos. They are very inspiring. I like how you show but cut out the unnecessary talking and get to the quilt. But yet you show everything needed to make the quilt. Love your choices of music also. Dave you are really so creative, thanks for sharing your style. Your boss will find this quilt amazing.
What a delight to see you highlight Okinawa in a quilt! My mother is Okinawan and seeing this come together with the beautiful indigo fabric and sashiko was awesome. Thanks Dave...and Jefe for the inspiration!😊❤
Love the background you give to your quilts, I learn so much! I’m an armchair traveler. I can’t keep saying that each quilt is my favorite one ever but here we are!
Definitely worth a 2 week wait! I have been cutting out my old jeans and collecting indigo fabric (including a piece I dyed). I was inspired to make a borro jacket by Kate of The Last Homely House. I plan to hand quilt using the sashiko style. Now I may applique a few Japanese themed pieces thanks to you! You are a marvel!!
Hi Dave! You nailed it AGAIN! Your quilt is GORGEOUS! And your sashiko lesson was right on time! Thank you for sharing! What an outstanding leadership lesson!! - Loose lips sink ships is what I always say!🤗
I really love this one. All the blues is just awesome. I like a more controlled scrappy and your splash of red in the applique is genius. Thanks for sharing.
Gorgeous quilt Dave! When you have a thread cone like that, you can always just put it into a clean mug right behind your machine & that will keep it under control. :)
This quilt is rad. It's a good reminder that we can start with a simple block and still make something very beautiful. The stitching really makes the quilt. Thanks for sharing!
Really great project and story. The color and pattern combination is wonderful. The every two weeks is hard to adjust to but I guess it just makes it that much better when it comes out. Thank you so much for sharing!
I love this quilt! This video was worth the wait. Also- I loved the music. I appreciate your eclectic selection of music in all your videos. It keeps it interesting.
OMG. You're Sew Very Easy impression is spot on. - Someone who watches more quilting videos than actually quilts. . . I should fix that. And actually quilt more.
Dave, I love you create a Boro Quilt in great interesting designs with those changing your rectangles of various Japanese Boro fabrics! Soo interesting and had a Toro with map of Japan- Fantastic and happiness- I lived in Japan as a kid so it’s real to me! A
Japan is wonderful. I went to the Nippori fabric district and went crazy shopping for fabric. Made 2 great quilts. Great job and great story about Jefe.
Your channel just showed up on my YT this morning. Lovely quilt! I love the pop of red on it. You could put your cone in a mug behind your machine until you find the spindle.
An amazing and beautiful quilt. Love all the little details you incorporated into this unique work of art. I clicked on your Laura link and I can see I left a comment there 7 years ago 🤩
Another home run Dave! Def worth the wait, your quilt is really beautiful & I’m sure Jeffe will cherish it. Kudos to him for helping people live up to their potential, hopefully other people learned from his example. You’ve inspired me to make one like it! Welcome back!💚💕😍
Amazing!!!OMG I literally stumbled upon your channel because of the word "Flannel". I am so glad that I did. I was searching for a more freelanced approach to quilting as well as learning the terms, the equipment , technique, styles, etc...My experience is novice and always learning. My attitude is I know I can learn how to Quilt. But, I have always considered that any form of hand made work is also an Art form. You are just that. An Artist of Fabric. This piece of work has inspired me to accomplish my quilt for my Grandson. Also, what I really appreciate from you teachings is the real" unconstructed" work space. Organized Messy is my Life!!! Bravo to you Dave..
OMG Dave, you’ve smashed it again! I have long admired the boro technique, something that’s grown from a need to now be viewed as an art form is beautiful and I love to stitch sashiko, nothing compares to the mindfulness of slow stitching xx
Having just come home from a vacation to Japan, this video is truly inspirational. I was able to purchase some fabrics and am looking at ways to use it. A Boro inspired quilt may be just the thing!
Dave, what a cool quilt! I love putting 2.5 by 4.5 strips strips together. So many combinations. The appliqué really makes it pop. Great to see you today!
Thks for sharing what other countries are doing. I have heard of shibori and shashiko stitching. I have tried the stitching. I have never heard if boro before. Beautiful quilt and great boss!
Thanks for sharing your work, it’s so inspiring to see you create what brings you joy. Love your fun and fearless creations and look forward to seeing more!
I am the son of a Japanese father, I am vaguely familiar with SACHIKO, the term BORO is new. My mother kept a piece of clothing from my grandparents, that defines BORO, patched, different fabrics, all old and handmade
Absolutely love your channel. Found it yesterday and have been binge watching. You are so clever, loved it when you said I have a vision but I don’t know the technique. You may not have known the technique but you cracked it.
Oh, how often I was there. Making a quilt for a loved person or for a kolleague or what so ever. And all the time you spend working and stitching you have these wonderful thoughts of this one human. How proud I was, knowing, this is one of a kind piece nobody else will ever own. But these thoughts, memories.. it's like meditating. Good luck!
I love those fabrics and always wated to make a quit from them but could not afford it - I use a lot of second hand fabric - but I loved watching you make it. You have many skills Dave - i've seen you cut a circle freehand with a rotary cutter, cut other shapes freehand, fold the edges under before applique (many don't do that but I like to, and your machine quilting is great - and you come up with your own designs - I do that too. I think there are many types of people who make quilts - the pattern followers, the designers, the patchworkers and the fancy quilters - room for everyone. I'm looking foward to the maple and eucalyptus results after seeing the episode that started it and also being Australian. I wish youtube had not removed the dates episodes were posted, it's hard to work out the order. Love from Oz
thank you ! if you go to my channel and click on Playlists, there is a playlist called Dave's Craft Room Videos which contains each of my videos and I *believe* they appear in the order that I uploaded them. BUT! The funny thing is, because some quilts take longer than others and some videos take longer to edit, the videos don't necessarily come out in the order that I made the quilts 😅 They don't necessarily need to be watched in any order although the playlist is there if you prefer it 😜
I found them. Thank you. I just like lining things up in my mind, even if I don't watch in order. I always look at the quilt on the wall behind you and that gives me an idea of what came before - and some quilts were made before you got the little iron and the quilting frame. See - we see everything and remember. Sometimes you pull out a fabric scrap that I've seen before, that's fun. Dave I am using your videos to destress from the problems of the world. When I need to veg out, but don't have the time or energy to sew myself, I watch you ... or the girl who makes viking clothes. It's like therapy. You said that your boss liked the quilt - that doesn't say much. He should have been delighted or excited and something more than liked. Is this the same boss who's two daughter's got quilts?.@@davescraftroom
Just such a simple pattern, but the blend of gorgous fabrics and the sashiko-inspired quilting make it special. Your fantastic applique skills add even more. Jefe surely loved it 😊
If and when you find a good boss, keep them! 😂 That turned out beautiful - Lucky boss! And good job security too! 😂 I've made a "quilt interview form" for making things for people that I don't know much about their personal lives. 3 fave colors; bright or subdued; introvert or extrovert; fav pastimes; then I have 5 quilt pics, from traditional to modern and ask which style they like best - knowing that this NOT representative of what I am making (unless that IS the one they want). It really helps with creating the perfect quilt for them. Now I guess I am going to crack open my indigo and oriental fabrics and sew something! Thanks for the great idea!
I’m so glad I came across your video today! There have been loads of times where I have forgotten to flip and image until after I cut the fusible - I’m glad not to be the only one! Thank you for sharing how you made this beautiful quilt.
I love that each time I see a new video, your subscriber numbers have grown! I am inspired by this quilt. Beautiful work! It is always fun to see how you put a unique Dave spin on each project.
You should look into Kantha which is similar and origanated in India. It is a beautiful technique and similar. I admire your passion for quilting. You put a smile in my face. Thanks and keep quilting. I wish I had your tenacity. You are my hero!
Wow! Dave I just came across your channel last week, I've been binge watching all your videos. I am so amazed at the creativity you have for quilting. I love seeing something different. Thank you for sharing your gift and personality. I think you're so funny!!!! lol 😂 😂
You always amaze me and never fail to deliver with flying colors! I envy you in a good way, I have read about Boro Shashiko and love the technique and history around it. How I would have liked to visit a quilt exhibit in Tokyo and taking the class you took. The quilt turned out wonderful and delightful. Congratulations once more.
Hi Dave, I don’t know how your video showed up on my screen but I love it after watched you. I love your free spirit inspiring whatever comes to mind. I’m a quilter for decades but need more inspiration from younger generation and you nailed it. I just subscribed it. Good Job!
This is just magnificent, Dave! I love boro fabric as well. My hands aren't strong enough to do the Sashiko, but I love what you created! What an inspiration!!! Truly magnificent!!! Thanks for sharing your frustrations too! Beautiful job!!! This is my first video to watch of your work. It will not be my last. I look forward to watching the houses quilt! Blessings to you!!!
I just watched this. It is wonderful, and the Japanese drum music in the background was also wonderful. WOW, the quilt is beautiful, you are sew talented. I follow Laura from Sew Very Easy and I have made the pattern, it's a great scrap buster. Thanks again I look forward to your videos, you never cease to amaze with your talent. Also Brenda From Conquering Mount Scrapmore sent a shout out to you the other day.
Dave, I would just like to say it has been a pleasure watching you make this beautiful quilt is the most fantastic quilt I have ever seen made from scratch good for you❤❤❤
Beautiful quilt, wonderful execution! And I loved that you made a mistake with Okinawa. LOL It shows that you are human like the rest of us. What quilter who does applique hasn't done that at least once? 🥰
I have watched several of your tutorials now. I am an elderly quilter who prefers to not buy patterns, but to kind of freelance each quilt for the person. I agree. I am an elderly quilter too. He is so amazing!
I second that, but I prefer to think I’m not so elderly. I live that each quilt is a one of a kind. Unique
Dave your ability to execute from your brain to a quilt always amazes me. Well done. Your boss will love it.
My sister was stationed in Okinawa. She told us that there were graves everywhere. However, the native people were wonderful. I have found that small spools will work inside cones. Your quilt turned out very nice. It looks much older than it is. Thank you for this lesson.

Me too
Hi Dave! You nailed it AGAIN! Your quilt is GORGEOUS! And your sashiko lesson was right on time! Thank you for sharing! What an outstanding leadership lesson!! - Loose lips sink ships is what I always say!🤗
I love that your boss saw your worth and let you shine. What an excellent leader 👏 I also love watching your creative process play out!
I really love this one. All the blues is just awesome. I like a more controlled scrappy and your splash of red in the applique is genius. Thanks for sharing.
I love how the brown and black fabrics ground the blues without overwhelming them. And the appliqués are perfect. Lovely work!
Excellent concept and execution. A fantastic way to honor a leader who saw your potential and allowed you to thrive. Another stunning quilt!
Gorgeous quilt Dave! When you have a thread cone like that, you can always just put it into a clean mug right behind your machine & that will keep it under control. :)
I’m usually watching old videos! I think I could be caught up…but probably not. I’ve binge watched so, so many! Love your videos ❤️

Five stars. A wonderful blend of East and West. I hope you do another in this vein...just beautiful, as it shows the history of indigo in each block.
I love scrappy quilt ; this amazing of Japan style of quilt and love Laura quilts too

A shout out from Brenda, Conquering Mount Scrapmore. I already follow you so it was like, yeah, a good choice! Another great quilt Dave.
Look inside your other big spools for the big cone holder. That’s where I always find mine lol

Beautiful hand stitching. Reminds me of the kind of stitching on Kawandis - a kind of quilt originating in India. That RED gate is perfect!
You're quilt is wonderful Dave! I'm enjoying watching all your you tube clips. Your makes are all brilliant! 😊
Having just come home from a vacation to Japan, this video is truly inspirational. I was able to purchase some fabrics and am looking at ways to use it. A Boro inspired quilt may be just the thing!

Absolutely love this design. I love. Doing sashiko, tooka class and now I'm hooked..
When I misplace my cone holder, I just jam a regular spool of thread in it. Works perfectly. Great quilt by the way.
Brenda from Mount Scrapmore gave you a shout out. I enjoy watching both channels.
Love everything you do! As always, I’m anxious to see what you have up your sleeve next!
