I like this plane a whole lot and i find it very unique knowing there is no critical engine with this twin. But the price is a bit steep since they are pricing this almost the same as a Viking twin otter 400S (amphibians) and slightly more than the Cessna 206 on wipline 3450 floats. If the price was brought at or in between the equipment acquisition cost of the Cessna and the Twin otter them perhaps it can fair well. But at least the seastar will lack excessive short term hull corrosion and its faster than the cessna and the twin otter.

A Grand Caravan (867 hp) on floats would be 201 mph and this Dornier is 204 mph with 2 x 641 hp = 1282 hp. To make the Caravan fly exactly the same speed would require 30 more hp or 897 hp. 1282/897= 1.43 times more drag for the Dornier over the Grand Caravan. But if you need 3 ft of rough water, Dornier would be the only choice.

Typically flying boats like the Dornier, Goose, Mallard etc. don't do very well with boat docks. But the Seastar doesn't have outboard float/ sponsons mounted on the wings, so it might be alright. Economically I think it's going to have a hard time competing with the New Twin Otters on floats tho.

I can see any off-dock wind scenario being an issue maneuvering due to inline thrust and no water rudders.

Is it me, or does this ring "who stole what" when you look at this beside the Icon5 two seater?

Dornier started about 90 years before Icon...
Dornier Flugzeugwerke was a German aircraft manufacturer founded in Friedrichshafen in 1914 by Claude Dornier. Over the course of its long lifespan, the company produced many designs for both the civil and military markets.
ICON Aircraft was founded in response to the 2004 Federal Aviation Administration establishment of the light-sport aircraft (LSA) class of aircraft and Sport Pilot certificate class of pilot. Kirk Hawkins and Steen Strand founded the company in 2006.

This design is totally obsolete and 6.8 to 17 times MORE to run with a fraction of the performance. Waste of money.
