Lovely dress Samantha and you looked so lovely wearing it too. You made it look so easy to make. I like how you share your life and passion in such a genuine and honest way. I think, like most of your outfits, they could be worn at any occasion that requires elegance, not just themed events. If I had a dream dinner party you and your dogs would be invited.
Oh what a lovely thought! The dogs are little piglets in the shape of dogs so there might not be much dinner left for anyone else! You always write such thoughtful and kind comments Ian, for which I hope you know how grateful I am. ☺️ My dresses definitely need to go out into the world more, the only problem being I would have to go with them!
Absolutely love the dress! The red velvet, the appliqués and the vintage collar! It is all perfection. It does look rather comfortable and super elegant at the same time. A great combo. I for one am excited for more 1920’s content!
Thank you very much Katie 💕 It’s always said that there’s lots of focus on the 20s but it feels to me like there’s hardly any. I think that straight boyish silhouette is the antithesis of what is fashionable now. But the simplicity of the silhouette meant that all attention is on the decorative detail, which is really fun. Thank you again for your encouragement 💕💕💕
How stunning!!!! Beyond stunning! I think that dress deserves cocktails or a lovely High Tea! I really love the puppy cameo and the outake! So much fun! xx
Thank you very much Lizzie 💕 I went for the full works: big beaded collar, silk velvet, appliqués … no point doing things by halves! I do hope I get to wear my dresses out of the house one day! I only see the dogs’ faces once I’m editing and they do make me laugh. They obviously regard me with weary resignation 😂 xx
Another gorgeous velvet turned into a beautiful dress, and that collar is stunning! Loved the 3 Samanthas, the more the merrier! And of course your cute dog at the end, reluctantly saying goodbye, so adorable! 💕💕😍😍
Ha ha about the more the merrier Samanthas! I really have to stop with the silk velvet one hour dresses now 😂 Oh that naughty dog - she is all over me when I’m trying to do something else but, if I interrupt her snoozing, she is livid! I must remember who’s boss! Thank you very much Arietta and I hope I will see you back on here soon. (I won’t be making a petticoat until you’re here to make one with me!!) 💗💐🎀
Thank you so much Michelle 💕 They are really fun to wear! The green is a shocking colour but actually more shocking on film than real life … Green is a weird colour to photograph. It’s difficult to get blue-greens without finding one’s face has taken on a matching tinge 😆 So it’s a compromise! Thank you very much for watching ❤️
Ah thank you very much! I think when I’ve been working on a dress all week (as opposed to an hour 😂) I can’t really ‘see’ it anymore, if you know what I mean! I’m very relieved to know it does make a difference! 💐
Thank you very much 💕 Yes, it’s one eye catching dress! No concerns about being a wallflower (should I ever go out 😹!) in this one. So thrilled you like my videos 💗
Thank you very much 💕 Yes, our little furry helpers love to supervise, usually in ways that make it impossible to forget they’re there (lest we do, even for a moment!) 🐾
Thank you so much Beverley! It’s such an easy silhouette for everyone to wear. My mum used to have a classic 50s hourglass figure. But, after a double mastectomy due to breast cancer (she’s fine now) she was really struggling to find any style that suited her (everything clung to the tum/hip area) but the 20s one hour dress style has proved her perfect style. If I wasn’t doing UA-cam I honestly might live in the style, it’s so wearable! Xx
Gorgeous dress Samantha, it looks fabulous on you. Also loved the Fair Isle cardie you were wearing too. I think the wig looks fabulous on you too. Xx 🌺
Thank you very much Lenore 💕 I bought the Fair Isle cardi from Emmy design but I’m sure with your knitting skills you could make one! I’m delighted by the success of my cheap wig. With that and turbans it’s tempting never to tackle hairstyling at all! Though my New Year’s resolutions were to learn vintage hairstyling and knitting! (We’ll see how it goes…) 💗💐xx
😲 KNOCK 'EM DEAD!!! 😲 My word, what a fabric. Gasp!! Absolutely gooorgeous ❤💚 both of them. The embellishments are beautiful 🌟 and by the frequency you whip one or two of them out most weeks, I reckon you have quite a collection to dip into! Such a simple pattern, there's nothing to it. Oh but the finished result is truly amazing! ❤💚 You look wonderful and I see you've styled your hair to perfection once again 😉
Thank you so much Rowan 💕 They’re totally impractical dresses for my lifestyle (which mainly involves dog walking!) but I love them. They’re for my dream flapper life ❤️ It’s such a great pattern. My mum had a double mastectomy a few years ago, which obviously totally changed her shape and she’s been struggling to find a style that suits her. Everything got stuck on tum and hips. I thought the 20s one hour dress might be the answer and it is so flattering on her. Not that she’s swanning around Exmoor in silk velvet 😆 but it looks pretty in Viyella too. Yes, my hair never looked so good!! 🤣🤣🤣
Lol your sweet pup running across your fabric. My pups do that too. ❤ They always need to be in the middle of whatever I'm doing. 😊 I'm such an introvert I never have anywhere to go to wear my dresses either! 🤣 Your dress turned out gorgeous. I'm looking forward to seeing the next one too! ❤ Oh I'd absolutely love your hair video if you make one. As I've mentioned before, I am sorely lacking any real hair skills 😂😂😂🤦🏼♀️. Thank you for sharing and looking forward to the next video! 🩷
Thank you so much Laura 💕 Yes, that’s it! Pups have to be in the middle of whatever you’re doing. It’s a compulsion for them 😆 I’ve done something completely out of character and bought a ticket for an Edwardian event where I know NO ONE. Eeeeek! It seemed like a good idea when it was ages away and a small group of people virtually around the corner from me. Now it is this Saturday and has morphed into a big event in a ballroom on the other side of town. The dogs will be horrified when I go out without them. I might well be the least qualified person in the world to tackle vintage hairdos but I’ll do it. We’ll learn together 😂!! ❤️
@Samanthalovestosew Oh my goodness I'd be terrified. I'm not good making small talk and mingling with people I don't know. My husband is the social extrovert in the relationship and I cling to him while he talks and jokes with everyone 😂 🤦🏼♀️🫣 I hope you have a great time. It sounds like it will be fun.
@@laurazeman He sounds like a very useful husband to have! I’m telling myself that, if I can’t cope, I’ll just pretend I’m going to the bathroom then make a run for it! 😂💗
Did you sew that velvet without basting it together first? That's mad skill. This dress is beautiful. I also appreciate the style versions that you showed in the video for the green dress. They are very inspirational. I can sew, but I'm not a designer, so those are quite helpful. I've been enjoying your channel, thanks for sharing. Agreed, I love the dresses, I just don't like the events that you get to wear them to, lol.
To be honest I don’t remember whether I basted those slippy slidey silk velvet pieces together (I probably should have done!) Yes, it’s good to look at different versions and decorations on 20s dresses to appreciate their variety - otherwise the sack-like shape doesn’t appeal to people today. I know what you mean about events, I love to sew the dresses and to show them off, but I’m an introvert not a party person. (That’s probably why I have a UA-cam channel!) Thank you so much for your support!
Oh thank you! I love Singer 201k machines. They’re my favourites. I have a grey one that was my mother’s, the black and gold one in this video, and an interesting small one I bought from a salvage yard for £5 (then spent another £100 restoring!) Lovely to hear from a fellow fan 💐
Just subscribed today, but been following a while on Smart TV where I can't interact or like (not v smart, is it?) Now that is why we sewers collect all the pretty things & hang onto everything, isn't it? Also love your choice of fabric; I always say don't settle for synthetic velvets, rather make something else than ruin a potentially divine garment by making it look like upholstery. Or worse, an archaeologist might find the nasty polyester thing, a millennium or two down the track & blame you for the state of the planet??! Lmao! I'd rather invest in decent quality fabric infrequently & take my time, slowly appreciating every second of the work to achieve a couture finished garment that will be useful to others, decades after I'm gone, than churn out masses of cheap production-line-looking tat made out of polyester. :) PS Btw Scarlet is orangish-red, while pinkish-red is Crimson. Love your work.
Oh of course, you’re right! I love the word ‘scarlet’ but ‘crimson’ is such a wonderful word too. And the dress is definitely crimson! How true about Smart tvs. And what you say about fabric. I thought I would be doing more thrift flips but my mum volunteers in a charity shop and all the fast fashion garments that get dropped in are made of such nasty cheap synthetic fabric. How I wish they wouldn’t keep making that stuff! I’m glad I’m not the only sewer collecting pretty things and hanging onto everything. My friend Janine, who I did a collab with a while back, says collecting fabrics is a hobby in itself! That made me feel a little better. And I do like looking at my fabrics and matching vintage buttons (in fact I have a video coming out on doing just that!) Thank you very much for subscribing - you sound like a kindred spirit!

Oh lady in red you suit red I love the 1920s and 30s this dress is beautiful ❤
Thank you very much - they’re wonderful eras for fashion aren’t they? We can pretend we’re in an episode of Poirot or a Jeeves and Wooster! ❤️
The acid green one is such a shocking colour! They’re both super cute dresses and look like loads of fun to wear❤

Yes - the shirring of the shoulders DOES give to the dress even if the collar overlaps. I think it was worth it.
Nice work!

This was a fun video-- your narration and running commentary were cute & sassy! You chose a gorgeous red.
Oooh thank you very much! I like the idea of cute and sassy (rather 20s/30s in fact!!) I’m glad you like the red, it’s a real strawberry pinky red! 🍓
