I’m so happy you found Origami Angel!!! I have been in LOVE with them since I discovered them a little bit ago! I’m seeing them live in January and so excited to see where they go from here.
"You have a girlfriend but she's not your girlfriend She's just your friend for the night You'll have a new one in the morning She'll have really pretty eyes"
Grandview are amazing. I wish more people knew about them. Good list. Feel Something was my fav album of 2017. I reckon Moose Blood are tough to miss out on here. Especially their first record.
The Brave Little Abacus' second and final album has to be one of my all-time favorite emo albums (and in general). I'm suprised they're still not much talked about in the emo revival community.
Gami is the direction I just wanna see emo going, not necessarily musically but lyrically. Not dripping with cis-het sadboy vibes about being single and shit but very personal about deeper things and from the heart
Marietta has become one of my favorite bands over the past year. Love the Couples Therapy EP they did with MoBo. Also glad to see Basement in your honorable mentions. Promise Everything is one of my favorite albums of the past decade even though it’s not as heavily emo-tinged as Colourmeinkindness. Great work as always, Nate.
Sorority noise - You're not as.. William bonney- Good vibes Mom Jean's- best buds The hotelier - home like.. Marietta- summer death Microwave- much love Turnover- peripheral vision Merchant ships- for Cameron The world is- whenever/harmlessness(can't choose) Origami angel- somewhere city Too lazy to pick an order but Summer Death is #1. Honorables: Remo Drive, Ratboys, Spraynard, MoBo, Foxing, Free Throw and alot more.
I love Origami Angel so much :-) I recently found them and appreciate all their pokemon references and their feel-good jams. I recently got into this type of music, but for this year I think my list would also include Oso Oso too!!
I haven't seen this channel in years, it just popped up on my feed again and I had to come back to this video. I wanna thank Nate for mentioning Spanish Love Songs, because when i watched this video back when it was released I had never heard of them before. The music SLS made fit perfectly to what I was going through in life and it has helped me hold on. I saw them live earlier this year and got to talk to them and got to thank them for having such an influence on my life, and I feel like I owe the same to Nate. Thank you.
glocca morra - just married the band that fully got me into emo. I had listened to some emo like sorority noise and sunny day real estate but just married is what truly got me to explore emo. and I still listen to at least one song daily from the album.
I'm 38 so late 90s-early 00's was my era of emo. Its so awesome to see the scene still going strong and I'll definitely be checking out these bands. Great video as always Nate!
we really do love to see grandview. everything between paint and a wall has my heart. that album was absolutely robbed it deserves so much more attention.
@@Aaaronicus meh, emo in the first place is a bias genre, back to the 80s it is called post hardcore, from gray matter to thursday, they have similarity, and in the midwest punk rock side youve got cap n jazz to penfold
I booked Grandview long before I started this label at a café in Boise ID, and it was my first show that a lot of people showed up to and where I paid the band an okay amount. It would be cool if they were still around.
Into It. Over It. All 3 of his albums are amazing. If you haven’t listened, please do. - Proper - Intersections - Standards I feel like Evan Weiss severely underrated.
Spanish Love Songs's Schmaltz definitely deserved to be on here, probably my emo album of the decade too. It's such a fantastic record, words can't really describe how much I love it. Cheers on the Origami Angel shoutout too! Also, I feel like Best Buds is missing.
Adil He violated ONE girl, and that was during something she had consented to. And from what I understand I don’t really think he meant to. Dylan is not a rapist
Spanish Love Songs are honestly one of the greatest bands I have ever listened to. Cannot accurately verbalise just how perfect every aspect of Schmaltz is.
Would have loved to have seen any Into It. Over It. or Abendrot by You Blew It! On this list but I’m looking forward to checking out some of these albums I overlooked
I'm so happy to see Spanish Love Songs on this list, I think Schmaltz is a modern masterpiece and I'm really looking forward to their next album! Cheers from Brazil my mate
hey nate!!! thanks for this dude it was a dope list, brought back so many great memories :) some more great emo albums on my list: the front bottoms - self titled (2011) brave bird - maybe you no one else worth it (2013) seahaven - winter forever (2011) camping in alaska - please be nice (2013) snowing - i could be whatever i wanted if i wanted to (2010) wavelets - athaletics (2012) tiny moving parts - this couch is long & full of friendship (2013)
Paused to check out the first honorable mention, bought the album, this video isn't even a minute in and has helped me find new music I'm loving, thank you!
I love the wording you use to describe why you enjoy these albums. Feels extremely genuine and every album on the list makes me want to drop what I'm doing and go listen to it now. The Albatross is one of my favorite albums in the last 5 years so I'm super glad to see it even get a HM.
Glad Cardinal made it on. Pinegrove has only dropped amazing stuff and the two tracks they released this week from the album next year are great. Awesome video, can't wait to see what you got planned for 2020
My Top 10 would be 10 - You're Not as ____ as You Think by Sorority Noise 09 - Winter Forever by Seahaven 08 - Proper by Into it, Over It 07 - The Earth Pushed Back by Have Mercy 06 - LP III by American Football 05 -Imbue by The Early November 04 - Colourmeinkindness by Basement 03 - Feel Something by Movements 02 - Home, Like Noplace is There by The Hotelier 01 - Nearer My God by Foxing I don't think La Dispute can be called emo. If that was the case, Wildlife would be in this list surely.
A agree so well with your list it's crazy. The two most recent albums i was hoping to see was peripheral vision and feel something you nailed the list tho. In depth descriptions too
OMG sooo glad to see someone even acknowledge Four of Arrows. It was such a weird step for the band for their second album, especially being on Double Double Whammy. But it's such a tear jerker with complex lyrics and instrumental. Def wins most underrated on this list
ngl dude i get super excited to see you upload man bc you're so good at articulating what makes the music good, i pretty much agree 100% with your list i'd probably add in cosmic thrill seekers by prince daddy in there somewhere and really any microwave album tbh lmao
Wow awesome vid. I can't believe I never realized how big the emo scene is here in philly. I know Grayscale, TWY, and MOBO are based here but seeing all these other bands playing in front of my skyline is so cool. Thanks for the vid, I've added quite a bit to my playlist. Heartbeat in the brain is one of the best emo songs ever made imo- perfectly embodies the spirit of the genre.
I am agree, it was a fantastic decade for the Emo genre, a true revival. LOLZ most of the honorable mentions are for me in the top of the decade for Emo. For me Turnover and The Hotelier put out of the park albums. Really fantastic. I love the pop punk video you made, but i really enjoy this one of Emo. Great job MATE!!! Greetings from Mexico!
Here's my personal list... thinking about albums in general is hard so i will pick them by year 2010: The Brave Little Abacus - Just Got Back From the Discomfort 2011: La Dispute - Wildlife 2012: Basement - colourmeinkindess OR Cloud Nothings - Attack on Memory (chosing one is so unfair) 2013: The World is Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die - Whenever, If Ever 2014: Modern Baseball - You're Gonna Miss It All OR The Hotelier - Home, Like NoPlace is There (2014 might be the greatest year for emo ever) 2015: Turnover - Peripheral Vision 2016: Arrows In Her - It Tired Me All the Same 2017: Brand New - Science Fiction 2018: Spanish Love Songs - Schmaltz (althought i consider them more pop punk but i truly didn't find a more emo album than this one... just pure trap) 2019: Origami Angel - Somewhere City 2020: Dogleg - Melee (cuz why not?)
feel something and peripheral vision are my top two and top albums, respecitvely. PV was the first indie rock album I ever listened and Ill never forget the moment I listened to it the first time and indie rock won me over
On The Impossible Past by The Menzingers released in 2012 is probably my favorite album of the decade. It gives you punk, emo, and pop punk vibes. It talks about the dumb mistakes you make in your twenties and how our mind chooses to remember these events knowing that we can never actually go back to the past. They feel like they filled the void that The Gaslight Anthem left behind with a little bit of Springsteen twang in there. Bangers from the album include songs like Good Things, The Obituaries, Mexican Guitars, and my all time favorite song Casey. Gates is another amazing song but it is the love song or ballad on the album. If you've never had the chance to check them out you're seriously missing out. They just put out a very mature album this year and have 2 more albums after this one that are also amazing. I can't say enough good things about this band.
Peripheral Vision turned from a breakup album into my most played album of the last year. I just cannot find anything with that same sound. Foxing was also involved in that breakup music.
Aaron Florian you have no idea how happy this just made me. I remember coming home from school stoked to watch UA-cam vids and it’s crazy that someone is excited to see what I make. Quite literally a dream come true Can’t thank you enough Aaron, have an outstanding balance of you day
So glad to see Dads on this list, but for me I’ll be the Tornado was one of the best emo releases of the decade. I saw them on that tour with tigers jaw and touché, it was sick, sorry you missed it.

I know that it's a bit too early, but I think that the first glass beach album is a good pick for the list. It's one of the few emo albums that makes me feel good and optimistic, even if a bit nostalgic
