    Greatest Of All Time. Period.

    He’s basically using gravity to accelerate the bat behind and downward by tilting. Pulling down like a golfer, only from the side instead of the top. He also tips the bat head and torques it, creating more momentum. I learned a lot here, thanks Matt

    I lived in the Bay area from '98-'02 and watched Bonds day in, day out. Best hitter ever IMHO. You simply could not pitch him anywhere in the strike zone without getting hammered. What amazed me was his ability to smash line drives and long balls down the right field line with no hook whatsoever. That's all about mechanics, balance and the ability to square up on the barrel.

      @@maxmcewen9257 and so did everyone else in that era. and the guys in the eighties took steroids and the guys in the seventies took steroids. Ifyou think that steroids weren't around 20 and 30 years before bonds you're sadly mistaken. Not to mention and amphetamines, spitballs, constant cheating, not to mention the pitching was better in Bonds era, the scouting reports, everything. If you take Barry bonds and put him back 20 or 30 years he's going to do even better than he did. If you take guys like Ruth and Erin, and you put them in modern times, yes they are still going to be Hall of famers but they are not going to do as well as they did. If you took Ted Williams and you put him in modern baseball, he would not hit 400. Shifts, scouting, it's just not possible in today's baseball.if you factor in everything it's a fucking even playing field. Bonds is the best hitter of all time. And I would bet you a million dollars that Griffey took steroids at some point in his career. You have to be delusional to think that he didn't.

  • @jayelbee1111

    Barry Bonds had a good stance. He used his body like a slingshot. He pulls his left arm back and pivots his left foot as he moves forward. That allowed him to gain more power and follow through the swing. He was so fundamental with that swing. Not as smooth or fluid like Ken Griffey Jr., but Bonds had a good swinging motion

    It also helped that his vision was 85% better than someone with 20-20 vision. I know that because we had the same optometrist. He just saw the pitch better than anyone.

    As a private hitting coach and a big fan of you (as well as Mike Epstein) I find my myself having to "break down" all the junk players have been taught by other coaches: hit down on the ball, don't drop your back shoulder, don't turn your back foot, take you hands right to the ball etc... I love Mike Epstein's idea of "hit what you see." You don't see MLB players or college softball players doing any of that. Thank you for all your continued help.

    Again, and I say again because I’ve said it so many times before, steroids DO NOT HELP YOU PUT BAT TO BALL, that can never be taken from Barry Bonds, he had God Given talent that cannot be disputed. He was a stud before steroids, people need to go look at that before they just speak. He was no slouch when he was with the Pirates! I don’t condone steroid use in any way, shape, or form, but Barry was a pure talent. You can put the strongest guy IN THE WORLD up there at the plate and he’s not going to smack 95-100 mph fast balls out of the park. So, let’s give Barry his due, he’s IS one of the greatest ever!

    If you were going to design a weight training program based around that particular swing (or perhaps hitting in general), what sort of movements would you incorporate? To me, these seem like the most obvious:
    1. Deadlifts (total body strength).
    2. Hang cleans (for overall explosiveness).
    3. Bent over lateral dumbbell swings (rear delt power & follow through).
    4. Bent over barbell rows (for "lawn mower cord pulling strength").
    5. Upright rows (same as above, only in a more upright plane).
    6. Overhead/Incline presses (for upper body pushing strength).
    7. Front squats (lower body strength & stability).
    8. A whole host of triceps & wrist movements (for increased "snap").

    You could also use the analogy of throwing something heavy for the action pulling the hand back as his rear knee gains ground. If think about throwing big rock onto the bed of truck. You would start moving your lower half forward as you move the rock back. Then once your front leg touches you would start the rock forward to throw it.

    Matt, Barry Bonds might have used introductory levels of steroids early on. It's probably why he never has failed a steroid drug test. However, testing will never get ahead of production or distribution and is the reason Barry used growth hormone and insulin to produce his size. Steroids do not produce skeletal growth. All you have to do is look at his helmet size difference from Pitt to SF. Nonetheless, to your point, he could flat out rake. I have also yet to see bat swing speed increases the bigger you get. In fact, it is a deterrent because bulk decreases flexibility. I think he is the all time greatest hitter and most definitely the best power hitter ever. Love what you do!

Would the ball go farther with big Barry than little Barry?

    • @miltonchurchill8040
      @miltonchurchill8040 7 років тому +5

      Wayne and Donita I think what a lot of people ignore is that when Bonds broke in to the big leagues he was what, 21, 22 years old? When he was 41, 42, the guy weighed more, maybe a lot more. I don't know about you, but I weighed more at 41 than 21, 20 lbs. I worked out regularly at both ages and I was stronger, bench press 40 lbs more at 41 than 21. No steroids. There is no reason why Bonds would not have been bigger and stronger, and have more power production at an older, but not over the hill, age. I get it, we will never know what he could have done without steroids, but his skills as a hitter were amazing regardless.

      Ian Baxley Not true. Quite a few guys have bombed splash hits into the cove other than Barry. The "real" difference is that Barry was a true left handed pull power hitter and he played a lot of games in SF. The Giants haven't had a true power hitter since Barry. So it's not at all impossible. It's just not seen as often anymore.

To be able to train and stay in shape and on point to an absolutely inhuman level YEAR ROUND, because when it comes to hitting, its year round. Their talent and drive is undeniable. O yeah plus all the gold gloves. All the other "cheaters" couldn't do what he did. So Bonds: GOAT: Griffey goat

  • @chriscarpenter317
    @chriscarpenter317 Рік тому

    The main thing is he keeps his barrel level through the strike zone. From the back of the plate to the front of the plate. Not like that Teacherman guy teaches. If you watch his videos his barrel path is at an angle and not level. All the great hitters keep their barrel parrallel to the ground all the eay through the zone. If you are a little late on the pitch you can still get the barrel on the ball and hit it to the opposite field with power. Teacherman says he studied Bonds and he teaches Bonds swing. He diesnt. He teaches a swing thats more like a golf swing with the barrel lower than your hands. If you notice Bonds batrel is flat. Look at the side view. Bonds has his hands at the same level as the barrel. Ted Williams compares swinging a bat like swinging an axe to chop doen a tree.

    People dismiss his talent because of his steroid use. A lot of failures used steroids. A lot of decent players used steroids. A lot of all stars used steroids. Steroids do not make the player. They make the player stronger! The eye hand coordination, the sheer athleticism, and most importantly, the hard work, makes the player! People focus on the steroid use, and ignore the fact, that Bonds had a ridiculous work ethic. His workouts were beastly AND creative. He committed himself to being the best he could be, overdoing it to be sure! But, don’t be over simplistic as to believe that what you saw with him, was the result of one factor; steroids! That would be a mistake!

    Wear armor on your front arm. Stand closer to the plate so anything slightly inside will hit you. Thus, take away the inside of the plate from the pitcher. Once he started doing that in SF the transformation from just being a hall of fame player, to all time best started to take shape. I feel sorry for Hank Aaron.

    Bonds is the ultimate Hall of Shamer player...and it is tragic! Barry is the supermodel, the best looking female that gets plastic surgery...WHY!!! How sad...this is a spiritual, philosophical issue. Dude was a Griffey...both peers, and why Jr is the best ever. Barry capitulated to ego...his ergonomic swing is legend. Swing and steroids are not connected, but steroids and recovery is!
