What I would like to see on this channel for forgiving clubs like this is how they perform in a regular average golfer's hands. Contrary to what UA-cam comments suggest, Rick is actually a good ball striker so would be more useful to see some 15-20 handicap come out and hit them on the simulator as well
He actually used to do this way back in the day in his older videos on his main channel. You could probably watch a couple of those and I'm pretty sure the sane logic would apply.
Just started video and before he even hit a ball i wanted to make this exact comment ! I need to see what a 20+handicapper does with these clubs not a scratch golfer ….problem is a hacker like myself is t going to have either major golf companies sending him sets of clubs to compare or able to afford to buy them 😂…barely able to afford a single set which is why im trting get info on forgiving g clubs 😜👍🏼✌️
I completely agree with you. When it comes to game improvement clubs, it's the higher handicap golfers who need the most help. Rick is already a solid player, so I'd love to see someone closer to my handicap try them out and see what kind of improvement they get. It would be great if they could have 2 or 3 golfers with a range of handicaps test the clubs to give a more balanced view.
Having just been out for a round where I fatted half my irons and thinned the other half I was interested in this video but half of me wonders whether money spent teaching me how to hit better and more consistently would help more than buying different clubs! I know I dont swing as well as Rick!
@@paulskibum i can say if my experience is any indicator lessons equaling the cost of new clubs will definitely help more than the clubs …i got the new Qi’s , and i may hit em longer but im still miss hitting to much….granted the miss hits are more 50/50 left and right instead of just right duffs and thins 😬🤷🏼♂️✌️👍🏼
I'm a 6 hdcp and game the G430's. A good number of the guys I play with who are low single digit handicaps play SGI irons. It's all about the gapping for sure. I have my own launch monitor and simulator in my house and I can say for sure the pings are very consistent with distance and spin rate through the bag and not as left biased as other SGI sets. As others have stated a lot of pro's are playing cavity back irons from 7 iron down to 4. I can still shape the G430's to some extent. Nothing like a blade and I did game blades for many years. Taylormade RAC LT's and Callaway Aprex blades over the years. Got crushed in a league playoff match with low single digit guy playing Callaway Mavrik max irons. Just point and click straight shots with very little effort. Got to talking to him and asked him why he played SGI irons when he was such a good ball striker. He said "why make the game harder than it already is". He said what he gives up with shot shaping he makes up for in forgiveness and accuracy. I play 4 wedges with my pings. Pings are 4 - pw and then I have 46, 50, 54, 60 wedges. Like Rick I carry the G430 7 iron around 170 - 175. 8 Iron is 160, 9 is 150, pw is 135 to 140. They are great clubs and I think more single digit guys should play with SGI irons. Now when I show up to a match and the guy I'm playing has blades I know I have a huge advantage. That and having my own indoor simulator helps also. I'm a convert to SGI irons for life at this point.
Great comments. I play Stealth irons are am very happy with them. 7 handicap. I also had the thought that, well, I'm not prefect at golf and I will take whatever help I can get. I now don't tend to have those massive hooks and slices that I sometimes had with my old irons. Now it's more a fade and looking at my divots I can tell why. Simply a bad swing, nothing to do with the club. I got the Stealth's on the back of both Rick's and P Finch's testing of them. I don't find I hit them any further than my old set except I hit them a lot straighter.
Great Comment And advice. I go between Mavriks and Mizuno MP 4H. The absolute beast in my bag is a Ladies Cobra 26 degree 4H. I added 3 pieces of lead tape. Don't Laugh 😂 I carry this thing over all trees about 175. The ball and club combo falls out the sky and is very accurate.
@@kevinwash74 I'm a very open minded golfer. I will use anything that works for me. I've carried a 7 wood for about 40 years. Original one was a persimmon head with a steel shaft that I won in our caddy day raffle at the club where I worked. I also carry a cheap $40 chipper and almost never chunk a chip anymore. No club has ever saved me more strokes and greenside frustration than that cheap ass chipper.
17:14 - A higher handicap can't hit a two iron, Huge smile on my face as I sit here with Ricks old 2 iron at the side of me that have gave me at Wallasey Golf Club! I've been hitting it well, I love it hahaha!
Rick, I was playing Taylormade GI irons for years, the last set being the Stealth irons. I found them long, forgiving, but somewhat unpredictable, and not very precise. As my game improved, I tried P790s and similar. But, after playing GI irons so long, I just couldn't get comfortable with the size behind the ball. I was really torn. Ultimately, I went with PXG Gen 6 irons which kind of split the difference. They aren't as chunky as Stealth, they are forged, they are much easier to control, but still confidence inspiriting behind the ball. Highly recommend!
Awesome video. I’ve played around with newer irons and the Cobra was my choice. My only gripe with all of these is you get your distances dialed in but every 10 shots or so one gets hit perfect and flys 15+ yards farther than when you normally hit it.
I'm fairly new to golf. I'm 30 and my buddy i play with is in his 60's. He showed me a set of Cobra Transition irons, and i ended up buying my own set. I know they're SUPER forgiving irons that are meant for high handicappers (which I am). I absolutely love them and they help me so much on the course.
I’m a 15 handicap and i went with the G430s because i love the look and feel. You definitely don’t just have to be a high handicap to use these clubs. They are very consistent and forgiving. And i feel like 90% of casual golfers consistency and forgiveness is exactly what we need
I lived this experiment in real life. I was still using my Tommy Armour 845’s from about 1992 3 years ago. My buddy got me back into golfing a lot and he ended up getting a set of Callaway Rogue X irons for me which are identical to his except he is a lefty. He doesn’t know much about clubs and I didn’t want him to feel bad so I used them for 1.5 years. Those Callaways are super forgiving, had regular graphite shafts compared to my normal stiff steel. It took me a while to adjust my swing to them but, I did get pretty used to them. I shot good scores with them and laughed when I mishit them and my ball was near the hole or at least on the green. Unfortunately I couldn’t shape them very well. But hitting them straight was easy. This year I got a new set of Mizuno JPX Tours and love them. So yeah I lived this experiment.
As a high handicap player, I wish club manufacturers would stick a little closer to traditional lofts on irons so they weren't so misleading during fittings. I'm currently playing a set of Taylormade M4s that have been modified to 2 degrees stronger than traditional lofts. It corrected the gapping issues at the bottom of the bag, have 4 degrees between each club, and only had to purchase one 60 degree wedge to finish. Also on a side note for my fellow golfers that are also consistently inconsistent, a 2 iron is a wonderful asset to have. I find it easier to hit my Ping g425 2 iron on the bad days where I just can't get the driver or woods to work for me. Something to try if you have the same struggles I do. 😅
I just started golfing in March, I started with callaway cavity back GI irons and I struggled with them. I was handed a titleist t100 at a golf store to measure my swing speed and was hitting it extremely well. I ended up buying a set and I have improved my iron game so much in just a few games oddly enough with a more "blade like" iron. I feel like with the t100s they're lighter and have a smaller head and kind of help me to swing them more smoothly and the smaller head makes me focus more on where I'm striking the ball and actually helped me a ton on ball striking. I've hit more greens than ever before on par 3s in the last few rounds than I did in months prior to switching.
This video is exactly why I re-shafted my clubs 3 yrs ago. I started playing again 6 yrs ago and bought a set of King Cobra II’s that were made in 1996. The old gentleman I bought them from took very good care of them as they were n great condition and still had the original Cobra grips on them. I re-gripped the clubs and played with them for 3yrs. I started noticing a broad dispersion but consistent distance. It felt like the regular flex shaft was flexing a lot giving me the broad dispersion. I started researching new clubs and found the manufacturers were strengthening the angle of the club face for more distance. I was looking for distance I wanted to narrow the dispersion. A friend of mine that I play with occasionally build clubs and gives lessons after talking with him and hitting a bucket of balls while watched I decided that I would re-shaft the clubs. I loved the feel and it was way cheaper than replacing my clubs. I have every club 1-9 irons and all 4 wedges. I went with ProjectX Catalyst in a stiff shaft. They feel great, tightened my dispersion, and even gained some distance. And, by the way, I CAN hit the 1 iron - off the ground or a tee😅
The gapping issue from the stronger lofts is real. I got fit for the Ping G430's but discovered I was going to have to carry 5 wedges, which for my game seemed completely silly. Instead I bought the G425's which were less crazy in the lofts.
Just got fitted for new irons yesterday. Cobra and the 430’s were the final 2 I had to decide on. Cobra had stiff shaft and g430 had regular shaft. Both great clubs. Ended up taking the g430’s just felt amazing and gained 20 yards of distance on my shot. Can’t wait to get them
I play Titleist T-400's and love them but Rick is 100% correct about needing more wedges. I carry a 43/49/55/60 wedges. My PW is 38 degrees so the extra wedges are absolutely needed for me.
I wish rick knew more about the data. the people who these clubs are made for are slower swing speeds that add dynamic loft and slice the ball. having less loft and draw bias helps them out so much. so they are out there to help the 80% of golfers out there.
I tested the Taylormade, ping, and cobra irons. When I tried the Fourteen TB5s, I was blown away. Ikr what it was but they felt so smooth and comfortable.
I bought my first set of clubs 10 years ago. I just happened to be scrolling thru and saw this review. It's crazy to think, my Yellow Nike Vapor Speed was considered strong lofted back then, at 32 deg 7 iron 44 deg PW; and now 10 years later the clubs have shifted one entire number. The ping is equal to my 6 and the PW is equal to my 9.
Great review Rick, the game improvement irons are so forgiving it is really hard not to game them. I am on the bubble between forged and game improvement at a 10 handicap. I choose forgiveness (Mizuno JPX 923 Hotmetal) on the miss hit and play them a bit right to compensate for the ball turning over vs. the punishment I get from the forged on a mishit. Keep the great content coming!
A 170+ 7 iron is just nuts. Back when I first started playing golf, in order to achieve that distance, you would've pulled out a 3 iron or maybe a 4 iron. Getting back to the whole " forgiving clubs " conversation, I honestly don't care what anyone says, but a Ping Eye 2, Ping Zing 2, Ping ISt, King Cobra Oversized or a Callaway Big Bertha/Great Big Bertha were and are still the epitome or poster child of forgiving clubs. I happen to own these and still use them today. Today clubs IMO is just stronger lofted and give the golfer more distance. Sure, they're great. However, older clubs from, say, 15-20 years ago are just as good too. I care more about forgiveness and feel as well as playing cavity back irons and clubs that work and get the job done vs clubs that go miles and I have to completely rethink and retrain my brain on yardage all over again. I prefer to KISS - Keep it Simple Stupid.
I’ve been playing taylormade p760s for 4 years, going to go to the darkspeed irons this year. Not practicing as much as I use to and need the forgiveness of a big iron. Love the look and feel of the cobras, tried quite a few different ones
Iv got PXG xcor2's in the bag, i played yesterday and had an absolute mare off the tees. Irons saved me from a score card bottom line like some small countries GDP. One thing i might change is the wedges, pretty damn good already but stopping power could be better. As such im gonna have a fitting on 28th for gen 5 irons and wedges. Mainly because they are just £109 a club with PXG'S heroes program and clearance deals. May end up with a combo set. Xcor2's will then end up at my brothers in Spain for when i go out there. Don't let your egos rule out forgiving irons.
I just bought a set of g430 after trying all of the brands and being fitted. I gained 20 to 30 yards on all my clubs and interested to see and hear what he thinks. I tried searching for a vid of his on the irons and there wasn't one before I bought them.
Curious, since that's an insane amount, what other brands and/or lofts compared to the G430? Brands trick out lofts by lowering them yet calling them the same iron. Unless you're a slow swinger and hit it short, distance is not the important stat to look at when being fitted. What was the landing angle with that distance gain?
I use to always miss hit right and slice as clubs got longer …lately ive been missing left and occasional snap hooking with longer clubs (still slicing too much with long clubs too)…this double miss is why im hesitant to buy new clubs just yet .🤷🏼♂️👍🏼✌️ 27*’s is between a 5 &6 in my old set of RAC os irons …my 7i is 33*’s and i out hit most i play with distance wise (when i dont duff it 😜)
Rick, I have used the Ping G425's for a while and they were very good. I just switched to the PXG Gen 7 XP... Loft difference for the 7 iron.. G425 (30) the PXG ( 27).. Not much experience with the PXG's so it would be good to see your opinion. Cheers..
Mizuno Hot Metal 923, you can get a brand new set for under $1k USD. Absolutely love them, have 4-GW, and it has given me the confidence to start to build myself up while breaking 85 consistently this year.
You mentioned lofts and extra wedges at the end of the video. I’d love to see a video that shows the gaping between these kinds of irons and what wedges would be needed
I remember you talking about strong lofted forgiving irons and they had one problem. Touch around the greens. I found a set from a brand called Thomas golf, they are forgiving irons with bladed lofts and increase in shaft length by 1.5 inches, I love these irons and I think you should compare them to the current sets that you are reviewing today
I play to about 20 or 24. Went from ancient std lofted clubs to Ping G425`s.. Utterly brilliant clubs and so forgiving.. But I`ve had to learn to play the game again because they fly so high and so long. If you keep changing your irons to the latest and greatest and most forgiving every five minutes are you really going to improve as a mid to high handicap or are you on a constant learning curve of how to hit the clubs the line the distance and the game all over again ????
Launch angle is important, but landing angle is also helpful and is what steered me to Qi irons. I tried Srixon’s zx4 and zx5’s; they were horrible for me unfortunately. I tired a few others as well and landing angle averaged in mid 30’s. I was also hitting them left a lot and very inconsistent. Surprisingly, the Qi’s were just better for me and was mostly hitting those straight, but I did have a couple go left on me as well, but landing angles averaged in mid 40’s, which is much better, so my shots should not go running off the back of the green. Needless to say, I went with the Qi’s.
10:13 I’ll say that the tendency to make the ball draw makes me able to take a very simple and natural swing, with very quiet hands, that very easily results in a straight ball or small fade. I still hit bad balls, because I’m not perfect, but I think everyone who’s not a tour pro should be playing game improvements. I’m a single digit handicap and I’ve played game improvement Cobra Radspeed irons for a year and a half. They’ve been a big reason my handicap has gone from 20+ to 8 since I got them
I'm the same way. I even went to the one length on the radspeed and this video really shows how much loft affects the distance more than the shaft length. That little bit of offset let's me just swing with a little hold off and the ball just goes arrow straight. I'm not the longest hitter (Right around average or maybe just above), but my misses tend to be either short or long, not left or right, and that makes scoring so much easier.
Rick- great review as always. Realy enjoy your content. I don't understand the thinking behind "game improvement" irons with significantly stronger lofts- 1 to 2 clubs stronger. Don't these ideas go completely against each other? We need more easy loft and better landing angle. Seems like we are just getting clubs at the bottom of the sets (4,5,6) that most high handicappers will struggle to hit because they are actually 2-3 clubs stronger than that. Now if we can get more distance WITH the loft and better landing angle, that's significant improvement and an engineering "improvement". I'll be looking at the Mizuno 925 hotmetal high launch, Cleveland Zipcore XL, Callaway Ai Smoke high launch and TM Qi10 HL. It's more beneficial to me to have the design promote easier, higher launch as I'd be using hybrids on the low end anyway.
As a high handicapper, the most important thing is dispersion, not distance. I'm happy to hit a 7 iron 150 yards but not happy to hit it 70 yards right! Include this in future reviews!
I feel these clubs are more for the player that needs/wants forgive but also for someone that also needs the help to get distance. For myself I was after forgiveness but didn't need or want more distance as I was more wanting tighter dispersion so I ended up going for the Mizuno pro 245 hallow bodied irons
Have had my G430's for just over a year now. Rediculously easy to hit. Got them in 5-PW and once I realised how big the gap was from PW to my 52 Vokey I swapped it out for 50 degree G430 which is now my favourite club. If I could get a bit more spin off the 7-PW they would be perfect but they are doing a great job for now. Maybe next year I'll see if the latest are any better.
I have a ping g425 7-hybrid in my bag that is 34 degrees of loft. I need to buy new irons to complete my set. I saw that the g430 8 iron is 33 degrees of loft! Should I go straight for the 9 iron and don’t have a 8 iron in my bag?
I like how low profile the face is on the cobra. Rick for funsies would you consider filming a round with these Cobras fitted and whatever the longest driver/woods are? Curious to see how bomb and gouge would impact your scores. Anyhow, not a fan of offset on most GI irons but the cobras ridiculous distance interests me. Keep the reviews coming.
I still revert back to my Ping Zing 2 irons from time to time. I re-shafted them with senior graphite shafts a few years ago. I only carry the 7i-PW. When they came out, people were reluctant to accept game improvement clubs. I don't care about the looks, can a club help me score was more important at the 19th hole.
No chance. A decent golfer doesn't necessarily want or need blades but they certainly want to look at a smaller profile and more importantly, they want little offset and plenty of spin control. I cannot imagine playing with something like the clubs in this video. I play 221's and my 7 iron goes 168yds. I have no idea how far that Darkspeed 7 iron would go in my hands but probably over 200yds and with no spin control whatsoever. A turned over shot would go absolutely miles. Golf is about how useful your misses are. Misses with these clubs would be "interesting"
@@Hixyboyblue Nice of you to move the goal post, they still arent blades at the end of the day. If 70% of the tour isn't using blades, there is a good chance the scratch golfer shouldn't use them either.
@@Mtnbike121 I am moving no goalposts. The original post here was about blades harming good golfers. I made a point of highlighting why the properties of blades like neutral offset, higher spin, workability etc shit what a better ball striker needs when compared to what powerful and forgiving game improvement irons provide. There is a place for both as they provide the tools for quite specific applications. Plenty of touring pros use cavity players irons but they mostly, like blades, offer very little forgiveness, offset or additional speed from the face. Is that slightly more objective for you? I'm a nutshell, how many Taylor made staff players are using the QI irons? There is a reason for that. I would not have replied to the video on its own as these irons are brilliant for the masses. But someone wrote about bladed or muscle backed irons being detrimental to good golfers. That is somewhat of a sweeping statement that is simply not true. Like the implication that a scratch player could be a poor ball striker relative a tour pro. You might be surprised to see how many good ball strikers there are out there shooting level par but in no way due to a mustard short game.
Rather than using terms like game improvement or using handicap to pigeon hole people, the golfing world should use club head speed as a guide to what club types people should look at. You can have a 3 handicap who has a 80mph driver speed but is unreal because they have a good short game and putt like a ninja. On the flip you can have 18 handicap golfers with a 115mph driver speed but cant get up and down to save their life.
It would be great for these videos if you could have a picture of the impact spot on the golf club so we can see how the club performs when struck off-centre
I suppose one factor that you haven’t mentioned is how tough the steel composite is and how easily it can damage. I really enjoyed the review thank you.
Really enjoyed the comparison in this video. But even if SGI irons would suit me better, I think I’ll have to stick with my Adams Golf Tight Lies Plus. They are still doing strong around the course and currently there isn’t room in the budget for replacements anyways.
I think a point not mentioned in the numbers is the roll out distance, in the 7-iron numbers the roll is between 4 and 7 yards and these are probabl6 the clubs you are hitting into greens. I would like to see your explanation of the difference between these and a MB/CB iron with descent angle and roll out
I'm a laughable 36 handicapper (I swear it's the putting lol). Got the darkspeeds about a month ago and I love them but the grey scratches alot! In fact I've even seen some marks on the plastic inserts which is a smidge annoying but they're nice clubs. Not as light as day the Callaway big Bertha's but nice clubs
Recently had a fitting for 1st set of new irons for 10 years and I'm disappointed how strong the lofts have become. My old set of ping i210 are still better then anything I tried. My swing speed has dropped below 80mph and I play off 7hcp. Brands are obsessed about selling distance when most of us need more loft for higher launch, forgiveness and tighter dispersion. It's fine for higher swing speeds but thats not 95% of real average golfers. I'd love to try clubs in more realistic lofts and not longer shafts to help me keep enjoying the game.
With the new burner mini driver out, and seeing all the versions of the burner on marketplace, I’ve been wondering what is the difference between all the burner drivers?
Interestingly, I went to a TaylorMade fitting a while back. (I didn't buy any, I can't afford that!) but I tested the Qi line. Couldn't hit em. They actually fit me into the P790s. MUCH better club for me. I also already have a "left miss", so the offset/settings on some of these "game improvement" clubs don't actually help me much....
A big complaint I always hear is the loft of the irons. Would t it make it so much easier to have a 7i length for your 190-200? I have always hated the offset personally.
Hi Rick, loving the videos. I’m looking at changing my clubs, I’m currently playing off 22, but hoping to get below 20 this year. Have you any recommendations for me to try? I currently play with Wilson D9. Thanks.
I used to have some Ping G400s and really struggled with them, i found distance control near impossible with them. I always found that id get a random flier in there that flew 15/20 yards further from nowhere.
Kinda wish it did. I ended up getting a g425 crossover 2 iron. Blessing in disguise as the standard 4 iron would come with stock steel shaft. I think I enjoy having graphite in my driving iron
would love to see you review the Bombtech 4.0 irons .. its what i have and i think theyre less than 400 bucks for a whole set... although those QI10's would look good with my 3 wood ;)
Can you review the HL versions? I got the Callaway AI Smoke HLs -2 degrees and they've been great, only 45 degree PW so not too aggressive but I needed the spin.
Can someone explain to me the reason people go from forgiving clubs like these, to players irons. Im currently using the stealths which I got fit for. My handicap has gone from 21 to 10. When should I change my irons and what should I gain??
Good to see these in an average/s**t golfer to see how these would work. Always seems to be a Pro golfer that reviews these. P.S. I am available for testing these irons lol!!
Also just thinking, I want to see I higher handicap golfer hit this with a slow golf swing is the loft too much or can you still hit it long. plus some golf shops only give you a 7 iron to hit
Rick, any chance you could review the Wilson D9's? I picked them up for really cheap off Amazon, and I like them quite a bit, but I wondered how you would feel about the performance for the price
I use to game mavriks but the distance was too much. My 6 iron was 24.5. My pw would go 145 bad hit 165 on solid. Now gaming zx5 and zx7 combo. More consistent. I am a 16 handicap.
I got fitted for the G430s and given the strong lofts, to match existing wedges went 6 -> w + 45, just imagine the number on them is -1, so the set is really 5-pw. They are very forgiving. The one thing I hate about the G irons is the number stamped on the face.

That's better than it has been. I have TM Speedblades and for me it's one in 5, big reason why I'm moving to P7MC
Yeah, I’ll never go to hollow backs for that exact reason. 15 yards short could cost me a stroke, but 15 yards long could cost me 2 or 3
I'm fairly new to golf.
13:16 “Some would describe me like that” LOL wow Rick the timing and everything on that was comedian level funny. Laughed out loud
With a 200 yard 7 iron, that is some Wyndam Clark distance!!!!!! Crazy what jacked lofts and a little tech can do.
Think it’s time for you to put a game improvement set of irons in the bag…maybe we can finally break 75!!!!
I think he should do the dynapowr forged irons. Right in the middle. Still some workability but you’re not alone like blades
I was getting ready to write this! Put the dark speed in the bag and see what you can shoot when you’re hitting a 7 iron from 200 yards lol
He's on Wilson now. I think he'll score well with them.
I would love to see a Dynapwr Review. Wilson doesn’t get enough pub.
That was an abrupt ending to the video. Great review of all 3 as always. As someone who needs forgiving irons this has been insightful. Thanks.
I wish rick knew more about the data. the people who these clubs are made for are slower swing speeds that add dynamic loft and slice the ball. having less loft and draw bias helps them out so much. so they are out there to help the 80% of golfers out there.
Definitely should try the Srixon ZX4 MK2 they are amazing and look great too. An excellent game improvement iron imo!
Great video Rick, I just got fit for some Srixon zx4 mk2, would love to see you review some Srixon products as so many other channels love them !
Keep the great content coming!
absolutely love my G430's. they feel amazing and i have a habit of hitting out of the toe a lot and they help so much
A 170+ 7 iron is just nuts.
Just bought a used set of p760s for £250 and loving them so far
@@joshcook4479 I love my p760s, just not quite the ball striker I was in the past 😂 you’ll enjoy them
Iv got PXG xcor2's in the bag, i played yesterday and had an absolute mare off the tees.
Some of these sgi irons are 2 clubs stronger
@@patcurtis5287 Newer cavity back irons have a lot more weight at the head than older ones which would inevitably increase distance too
Can't go wrong with pings pal.
I use to always miss hit right and slice as clubs got longer …lately ive been missing left and occasional snap hooking with longer clubs (still slicing too much with long clubs too)…this double miss is why im hesitant to buy new clubs just yet .🤷🏼♂️👍🏼✌️
27*’s is between a 5 &6 in my old set of RAC os irons …my 7i is 33*’s and i out hit most i play with distance wise (when i dont duff it 😜)
Rick, I have used the Ping G425's for a while and they were very good. I just switched to the PXG Gen 7 XP... Loft difference for the 7 iron.. G425 (30) the PXG ( 27).. Not much experience with the PXG's so it would be good to see your opinion. Cheers..
Would the key metric be dispersion here - looking for a lower dispersion vs blades at the expense of distance etc?
Absolutely, he didn't make enough out of it. Ping is the winner in the most important category, dispersion.
Rick, I appreciate these videos. I sure miss you doing a mid-handicap tester videos, like in the past.
Honestly I’ve tried a lot of game improvement irons but my favorite were Yonex ezone 3.0 irons. They really helped uplift my golf game.
So for someone that’s looking to get back into golf basically a beginner would you recommend one of these sets ?
How many noticed the special effects added when Rick smashes a club? The studio shakes and there's a flash of light. 😂
You gotta give Takomo irons a try with your game. They are half the price of all of these but display incredible performance with forgiveness.
But you can’t try before you buy!
Or Caley, or RAM. They’re the same generic club heads
Or MacGregor, Sub 70, Costco, Tour Edge etc
I do like the clean looks on them
Have had my G430's for just over a year now.
Try going to a higher spin ball to bridge the gap. Chrome Soft X could be a fit
@Enarjay7891 Wilson Staff Model is the ball I've been using.
just got as fitting done picked up a set of the cobra dark speeds super stoked for them to come in!
Callaway apex dcb for the win. Combo’d with the regular apex is a thing of beauty. Bring this back callaway!
I'm a hcp 10 and play Cobra Radspeed, I never understood why people would play blades rather than something that helps you on miss hits
I got fitted and picked up a set of Tour Edge Exotics and I love them. Amazing feel.
I have a ping g425 7-hybrid in my bag that is 34 degrees of loft. I need to buy new irons to complete my set. I saw that the g430 8 iron is 33 degrees of loft! Should I go straight for the 9 iron and don’t have a 8 iron in my bag?
lol that seems REALLY silly. just go with the complete set...
Love my G430 irons 🙌🏽
The more I watch scratch or near scratch golfers review clubs, the more I think blades are hurting their scores rather than helping.
@@Hixyboyblue 40% tour players use cavity backs and 30% use a mixed set, while 30% use only blades. Less and less players are using blades.
@@Mtnbike121 yes, with small profiles, forged and spin control. How many use rocket cast clubs?
It's all about shot dispersion. I feel this most important category was skimmed over. Ping wins here imo.
We need more numbers on the HIT channel. Dynamic loft and AoA are key as well as landing angle and club speed
I'm still playing the Ping ISI irons and I think they look good.
Agreed! They actually have a really thin top line
so if you hit the ball more left what I have to buy...unless be better in my hand-plan-etc swing?😅
Did anyone NOT expect to see Rick shields?? 😂
Would love you to review the Cleveland HL hybrid like irons. Love the HIT channel and all you channels. Thanks Rick!!!!!
Would love to see a comparison of 'player's distance irons' like the mizuno 245, p790, t200, etc
i use cleveland xl zipcore irons with a midsize grip.found them far better than the pings
15 HC here. G430’s. 4 hybrid, 5-PW, 45.5, 50, 56 S159
Would you ever consider using the 4 iron from one of these sets to replace your 3-iron?
Let's be real, the majority of people getting fitted into these clubs aren't getting the 4 iron
Did u mean a 2 iron🗿
I wish they came 3 to pw. I done want to add a hybrid when I've had a 3 iron for so long
With the G430 you don’t need the 5 iron.
Kinda wish it did. I ended up getting a g425 crossover 2 iron. Blessing in disguise as the standard 4 iron would come with stock steel shaft. I think I enjoy having graphite in my driving iron
Or 5 or 6 iron
would love to see you review the Bombtech 4.0 irons .. its what i have and i think theyre less than 400 bucks for a whole set... although those QI10's would look good with my 3 wood ;)
Test the Cleveland Zip Core XL against those three.
Is loft jacking the equivalent of vanity sizing for clothing?
Can you review the HL versions? I got the Callaway AI Smoke HLs -2 degrees and they've been great, only 45 degree PW so not too aggressive but I needed the spin.
I'd love to see Rick test some cg16 irons and give an honest review! My 7 iron is 31degree 😅😅
I’d like to see a review of the Srixon ZX5 MK II irons
Need a comparison video on the darkspeed one length vs standard length
Honestly that dark speed 4 iron at a 2 iron length would be a weapon
I use to game mavriks but the distance was too much. My 6 iron was 24.5. My pw would go 145 bad hit 165 on solid. Now gaming zx5 and zx7 combo. More consistent. I am a 16 handicap.
Please review the ping i530
I really wanna see you playing some break 75 episodes with forgiving irons to see what difference they make with a pro golfer!
My mate plays off 9 and has the G430! He hits the 7 iron 200 yards and carries nothing longer than the 6 iron.
I got fitted for the G430s and given the strong lofts, to match existing wedges went 6 -> w + 45, just imagine the number on them is -1, so the set is really 5-pw. They are very forgiving. The one thing I hate about the G irons is the number stamped on the face.
I like the idea of forgiving clubs but I really like traditional lofted iorns better.
Well done nice review sir 🎉🎉🎉🎉
ping zing are one of the best looking irons ever!!
Can you compare a set from 2018 such as the t-mb 718, which used similar tech to modern day irons, to a set from today?
How is the Bertha b23?
anyone have any recommendations for forgiving irons that are like 3-7 years old?
