But he isn't at the same level as Jack or Patrick (the genetically engineered humans who suffered side affects of their engineering), for instance, since they never intentionally hid their intellect. One can assume that Bashir did infact lose a bit of his edge, once he had been "in hiding" for so long. But Bashir also lacks the ego that for instance Khan had aswell. But he had 400 years of genetic research etc to thank for that i suppose. While Jack essentially became a psychopath, though not really a sadistic one, still he has problems with emotions and had angry outbursts, he also had trouble talking "normally" due to how fast his mind worked..... and Patrick never matured out of infancy so he essentially just has the mind of a 6 year old, even though he's just as intelligent as the others. Enough to get great grades, but not enough to "stand out". He did mention that he intentionally only became the second best student in his class. Enough to get him any assignment he wanted, but not enough to have anyone look twice at his achivements
It is pretty much a given that he finished second on purpose. He keeps referring to the question he got "wrong" in anecdotes he brings up when making small talk with new people after all.

His story arc tied in with the story arcs of Aryk Soon, Noonien Soon and his androids and of course Khan himself. I personally believe that someone looked the character of Khan and thought “how would a Khan that works in Starfleet look like?” Also the way Data and him work together is magnificent and as you pointed out before in a previous channel Data’s nature can be tracked down to Aryk Soon who was the pioneer of the genetic enhancement that Bashir went through.

Dr. Bashir has always been my favorite character of DS9. Everyone else on the show, save Jadzia Dax, came off as pessimistic and angry at the universe. I enjoyed how smart he was and his unapologetic delivery of his intelligence. That's why when he Data met, I was truly hoping that a continuing storyline via crossover episodes would have occurred. Whilst I love that Data always remained on the Enterprise, I would have actually been more devout in watching DS9 had he switched over to the station instead of Worf and O'Brien. Seeing Dr. Bashir and Data together more frequently would have been a perfect match. Data always wanting to be more human and Dr. Bashir actually being more than human would have made for far more interesting episodes of the two teaching each other. *** Oh, and his English accent was so hot!

I have to admit that Bashir was not one of my favorite characters in DS9. He was a solid good character, no doubts there, it's just he got our shown by so many others. I would also like to see you do a character file on Nog. How he grows from Juvenile delinquent to honorable Starfleet Officer and war veteran.
Sheesh 1 month later and I could never have guessed that Aron Eisenberg would be dead. Asking for the profile of Nog seems almost prophetic now, though it is just coincidence.
i hope Bashir find out that he is test subject for some Spartan program by Section 31. The facility which augmented him was never mention again, suspicious!
One thing I love about Bashir is the tension between how others see him and how he sees himself. He's seen in-universe as tragic, getting in his own way by passing up prestigious opportunities because of sentimentality or careless mistakes - and that annoys him. The reality is he's deliberately holding himself back because others' ambitions for him don't line up with what he wants. He doesn't want to do ecological surveys on an Oberth somewhere in the far reaches of the galaxy, he doesn't want to be chained to a desk in San Francisco doing administrative paperwork, he wants to be on the frontier helping the sick and injured, where his enhanced intelligence can go to save lives

You should do a personnel file on Nog! His story arc was so amazing and with the new DS9 documentary discussing what his future would have been like had they gotten to continue the story, there's even more to work with.
I was under the impression that Julian was always his real name, and "Jules" was just a nickname his parents used. Makes way more sense than him officially changing his name when he was 15... Also, I don't remember Bashir being in the Mirror Universe for a century...?
At one point he wound up a board the USS enterprise NCC 1701-d because The enterprise visited deep space nine in the Star Trek Next Generation episode Birthright part 1 from 1993 where he wound up meeting Lieutenant commander data and after data seems to have unlocked the ability to dream helped the android officer analyse the images in his first dream. Which as it turns out dream analysis the only way in which data could be Julian's patient.

1:45 You left out the reason was that they were SURROUNDED by a local plant that could have saved her life.
I liked Dr. Bashir, the character is one that has depth and complexity, real and imagined.
I've ALWAYS loved Julian-and the actor who played him-ALEXANDER SIDDIG!
He adapt Nathaniel Tero's neuromuscular adaption theory so that Melora Pazlar could walk in normal gravity with out aid.
such a bittersweet episode
@@scottmantooth8785 why? You could tell the plot point that she wouldnt want to go through with it in the end half way through the episode.
@@mpittard21 *true, but the main point of the episode was how much she would have to give up to obtain the ability to walk about on her own...while she would have the mobility she craved or desired it would have isolated her from her family and her world and culture...and that was just too much to ask of anyone*
*I would love for you to do a Personnel File on Chakotay!*
Why? Just so you can see all the times he submits to the will of a strong-willed Captain who's probably insane? Better idea would be just do a Personnel File of HER SUPREME OVERLORDSHIP OF STAR FLEET COMMAND SUPER ADMIRAL KATHERINE JANEWAY the FIRST.
@@salenstormwing oh please.. Chakotay has just as much of a backstory and content from the series as Bashir. And if Janeway is "Her supreme overlordship" what is Sisko? Commander of a galactic gas station, but part time religious leader of a planet, part time fleet admiral, demigod, chosen one, and space Jesus?
And Sisko is the most evil captain of ST
@@danielhidalgolasso2814 *Why would you say that?*
Sisko poisoned a complete planet just to capture his nemesis (who by the way was the leader of the Makis
Greatest friendship in Star Trek. Bashir and O'Brien.
His story arc tied in with the story arcs of Aryk Soon, Noonien Soon and his androids and of course Khan himself. I personally believe that someone looked the character of Khan and thought “how would a Khan that works in Starfleet look like?”
Also the way Data and him work together is magnificent and as you pointed out before in a previous channel Data’s nature can be tracked down to Aryk Soon who was the pioneer of the genetic enhancement that Bashir went through.
Edit! Add ng at the end of all your Soon's! It's spelled Soong!
why no one think Bashir is actually a test subject for some Section 31 program. Think of Spartan program in Halo
I realllyyy want him to come back in Picard
Me too!!!
My initial favourite episode was 'Distant Voices', and I thought the Bashir timeline review would include a reference to this critical injury!
The one where your body is DS9 hanging on to life and the main characters are parts of your personality. And the Lethian (who is like the real deal) is trying to destroy you piece by piece.
I don't think by the end of DS9 Bashir's optimism is "eroded" but his naivety *is.* He's still a very fundamentally optimistic character on a very deep level by the end, and somewhat ironically I think Garak helps bring that out of him *more* by teaching him how to balance it with the crushing truth that can sometimes be reality.
He corrected Sarinas cerebral cortex issues do to her Illegal neural pathway enchantments as a child.
Enchantments?! 'Guffawing in the corner and wheezing' I'd imagine bashir in a fantasy setting would've been like a qyburn type... but since he Was THE Prince of Dorne already.
Hopefully Bashir will be the doctor in the new Star Trek Picard series. Don't think so, but one can hope.
i hope Bashir find out that he is test subject for some Spartan program by Section 31. The facility which augmented him was never mention again, suspicious!
Love the redactions :)
In many ways you could say he was the most human of all the characters.
One of my favourite characters!
Favourite doctor in Star Trek, with Bones and Zimmerman close runners up
What did you think about Beverly Crusher?
@@marknorth8904 I want to like her, and I like the actress...but she always seemed more of a stage prop or foil for whichever other character she interacted with. Kind of boring, really. Maybe my least favourite doctor, not including Discovery because I disliked that show so very much I don't count it.
And here I was, thinking that Jules was simply a nickname.
The thing is, he didnt just grow as a character, he grew as an actor! His acting was boarderline amateur dramatics in the first series! Still great character and couldn't imagine ds9 without him.
Pleasant character, wonderful actor. It's a win/win.
His real life uncle is famous actor Malcolm McDowell also nephew of Sudan's Prime Minister and also great great grandson of The Mahdi .
First comment I love Bashir he’s awesome
I don't know who was more talkative though.
Julian, or Morn.
You should do a personnel file on Nog! His story arc was so amazing and with the new DS9 documentary discussing what his future would have been like had they gotten to continue the story, there's even more to work with.
*cures founders and brings end to dominion war*
the admral who let him stay in starfleet: "welp, dodges a bullet on that decission"
I was under the impression that Julian was always his real name, and "Jules" was just a nickname his parents used. Makes way more sense than him officially changing his name when he was 15...
Also, I don't remember Bashir being in the Mirror Universe for a century...?
He was a character I hated at first but grew to like. An essential member of DS9.
Love Alexander Siddig
Do one on Garek, the "tailor."
Dr. Bashir is another of the many great characters on DS9. DS9 is the best Star Trek series. The end.
1:43 Good move!
Plus I always thought he was drawn to Garak, and vice versa, because they were both living a lie with large secrets over their heads from their respective pasts.
I really likeJulian i can feel and relate to him. him and Odo are my top 5
I find him great!
I like Dr. Beverly Crusher as well!
I want some of that sweet genetic engineering, I definitely need some upgrades.
Our man Bashir : Licensed to Cure !
I love the adherence to Section 31 in your video….
How did they get to you..?
I need the know the piano music playing at around the 10:00 mark.
Strange that nobody in the racquetball team and around noticed that he was genetically augmented.
just shows that if the augments didn't have a god complex they could have stayed hidden in society and just appeared as 'exceptional individuals' for centuries.
@@Searly255 good point
Love him
He should have a spin off with Data 🤘🤘
Never heard his middle name, Subotai. That is name of a character in Conan the Barbarian, a thief and archer that Conan meets and befriends.
Lol A personnel file on Julian Bashir with a thumbnail of the changeling.
I would want Bashir to return in Star Trek: Prodigy as it was revealed that Dal R'El is also an Augment, so the two of them can bond over being genetically engineered individuals in Starfleet.
Yass! I was waiting for this one
I always found it really odd that all the humans weren't augmented there is little reason to not do so
Watch the TOS episode "Space Seed". Especially the part where they thought that of all the Augment rulers, Khan Noonien Singh was the closest to "admirable".
@@DeaconBlues117 It still doesn't make any sense once you get to space and realise that everyone you bump into is faster stronger smarter than you it might be time to Upgrade your selves

Julian is my space husband
Being an Englishman it was nice to have a British character involved in DS9 ,though initially I thought he was a bit of a pansy and then later a know all but he grew on me a bit ,a bit.Not sure why they made him pals with Meaneys character though,I never saw them being friends myself. But it never spoilt the show overall. Also it was good to Babu getting a role being Julian's pa.
Should have held this back til thursdayfor Julians birthday
Would love a part 2 on his future, cannon or not 🤓
Do Will Riker next
I loved Doctor Bisher.MD i loved the overshoulfer medical kits with slot medical tricorderder can be used and wrist ligjt where my fave star trek techs that medical scienxes mote advaved i think all first aide logo should have still had divsion system again makes sence.
So close!!
can you please do an episode on Malcolm Reed from Enterprise?
He was in the Mirror Universe for 103 years and...no explanation?!?
The narrator said this wrong. I think what he meant was that it had been 103 years since other humans (Kirk and his crew)had crossed over to the Mirror universe .
@@robertszekely8686 that helps! Thank you! 😁

Where has the personnel file on Tom Paris gone?
I started to think why augmentation would be illegal and then I remembered....KHAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!!!!
And apparently he was the *nicest* of the Augments during the Eugenics Wars!
The real reason is that with all the magical tech of Star Trek, if you don't create some kind of law against even basic transhumanism, you have to wonder why everyone's running around as a fragile, dumb, clumsy, primitive.
the thumbnail is his changeling imposter, in case anyone else noticed that.
Sweet me and Dr. Bashir got the same Birthday
My third favorite medical officer after The MHN and Bones.
Have you done one on Cmdr. Riker?
If not could you do one.
Please do Garak next
How about doing a Personnel File on Worf next as I am interested in what was never brought to the tv screen.
a series of hilariously bad defeats to signify the physical strength of that episode's Alien of the Week? At least on TNG
he is one of my favorite ds9 characters the other being a tie between garek and dukat,
