Combustion coming back through the carbs would be timing, try turning it over with the rocker covers removed to see if the valves are moving when they should.. Awesome toy though
Another daft suggestion - heating the block up to running temp first (blowtorch😁), then try starting it?
Could it be valve timing? You didn’t show in the video you syncing the cams with the timing belt.
This ☝🏻
Obv make sure it’s all lubricated up well, but try spraying some bl00dy brake clean in the intake. Soon find out if it’s a timing/compression issue😜. Appreciate fuel is getting in, but wondering if not a great mixture or too much.
If a guy with your skill and patience can’t get it to run, there’s no way I could..
Frikin’ Urch-Fabulous! Get that on a t-shirt!
Cams Reversed or timed wrong? looks cool though!
That is pretty cool 👍
Shame it doesn’t work - but I hope someone on here manages to give some helpful info 🙂
JohnnyQ90 has made loads of them on his channel, lotst of tuning n stuff if ya interested Matt
On a four stroke it's really easy to get the ignition timing out by 180 degrees if you only use crank timing marks, i can see this engine has distributors driven off the cams but have you tried taking the distributors off to see if they'll go back on 180 degrees out?
That could be it or are the cams in the right bank and timed up?
I double checked all that bud
@@Urchfab Are the distributors driven by a spline on the cam or an offset keyway?
What is the firing order ?? with two 4spark distributors it could be they have to cross banks to give the proper order. Either that or is it possible that one or both distributors are 180 degrees out? It is a great little engine, what cc does it have and could it be used on a go-kart? or even a bike?
Maybe the straight petrol molecules are too big to vaporize properly in such a small engine, probably getting plugs wet. Different fuel mixture might be needed.
Compression test.
You have to be completely sure of timing and rotation direction, first.
Nice video
Edit
Wasted spark to opposite bank will be no problem.
JohnnyQ90 this guy makes them run
Seen these! would love to build one.
Might be a good option for the Micra.
It's probably just like a motor in a car it has to be timed
Hey mate,
Unrelated to this video i know but ive got a welding question: what do you do to achieve such good initial penetration?
Ive just started welding with a mig (you built the mongrel using nothing else so it must be pretty versatile) and i can really tell the difference between the start of the weld (when the weld piece is cold) and after it warms up.
The weld builds up on top before sinking in once up to temperature.
Would love to hear your thoughts.
Cheers.
Sucks that it didn't run! My basic intuition says to feed it with something more volatile? Acetone*? I know a fella up in the mountains out here in Norway who cooks up some highly dodgy spirits! 🤐 (*Not being entirely serious)
Is it 180 degeees out on the timing? Sounds like you've been pulling your hair out on this one!
Timing is good buddy
I ordered one 7wks ago haven't got it yet
I’ve seen about 4 different people build these on UA-cam now and None of them have ever worked. They sort of fire up, but just won’t run.
I honestly think they just don’t work and they rely on people not trying to chase them for their money back.
Yer, sure I've built a V8 before, from a bare block as well!🤫
That's an expensive table ornament ..... typed as it then ran..... so what fixed it?
It didn't run, I just some sound over.
@@Urchfab that's cheating.....lol
@@Urchfab😂😂😂😂😂
That an hpi savage fuel tank?
Try synthetic two stroke oil not mineral.
I'll give it a go. Cheers
Nice build, but for how much it costs, i can buy a running sh car ! 😅
This is true!
None of them seem to run on petrol always flood instantly put some glow plugs in and use nitro will run then but still a pain in the ass to get running 😂
At the very end when it sounds like its running, thats dubbed over hey? There is no way that little thing sounds grunty like that.
Haha, yes it is
@@Urchfab The youtuber @letslearnsomething30 has the same motor as this and it runs. but this guy turns fridge compressors into 2 stoke engines and welds honda cub motors together to make inline and V twins and inline and radial triples, maybe you can see what he did differently?
How was the cam timing set?
I don't know man
@@robinsteararoadiary a swing and a miss by the looks of it 😂
Cams on wrong bank.
Way above my pay grade. Cool engine though.
Shame, as it's a cute looking kit. They couldn't get one to run on the Donut Media channel either BTW... 😕
Sounds like a job for JohnnyQ.
Cool toy, but if you can't get it running, it's not much good & it aint cheap!
Indeed!
Hi you could maybe try reaching out to JohnnyQ90 he builds and mods these engines I'm sure he'd be able to help Mark
Just get an LS 😁
Choke ?😊
Flood it with easy start and tow it down the street
This may be of help - this chap does loads of work on rc models and engines, and did a vid on this engine (ua-cam.com/video/IKwyWgNXZuk/v-deo.html) if memory serves me, he had similar issues and fixed them.
He has the glow plug version in that video bud.
Cam timing is wrong...
K swap it 😂
But what kind of a time would you be able to put in if you went around this course with your Anglia? ua-cam.com/video/dn4EjfiPgVo/v-deo.html
Mate that's a diesel engine
What a shame....
I know mate. I'll have another go.
First
Glow engines run on methanol, not petrol, not nitromethane. Nitro methane is sometimes added to increase power and ease of start.
You seemed a bit baffled by the fuels.
Its true, I know nothing about model engine fuels mate.
Glow engines run on a mixture of castor oil, methanol and nitromethane. I've run 1/10th nitro engines on up to 40% nitromethane.
I've also run two stoke petrol RC motors (1/5th scale FG Beetle) with 20% nitromethane in the fuel. Livened it up a bit.
@@cogboy302aka the engine probably wants super high ignition timing burn the methanol aka quick burning high rpm fuel
@@cogboy302castor straight has 2 ingredients in it and was the most common glow fuel for over a century. Methanol to provide combustion and castor oil for lubrication. These are methanol engines with nitro added sometimes for extra power.
We used to mix our own for the shop, we were still selling loads of castor straight or mixed oil alternative with no nitro in 1988 when we closed up shop.
Nitro is a power adder. These are not nitro engines, that is an inaccurate and silly Americanism.
@ForeverNeverwhere1 You will know this since you worked in a model shop, but the use of nitromethane in model aeroplane, car and boat engines (in competition) is often limited by rules. if I recall correctly, the FIA rules (which might be predominantly used in Europe) disallowed nitromethane, while 'open' rules such as applied to pylon racing would limit fuels to 65% nitromethane. At that point there's not a lot of methanol in it since you'd still run about 20% oil. I live at about 1300 meters altitude, and when I was doing RC model aeroplanes we would typically run 20 to 25% nitromethane to boost engine performance back to where you would typically expect it to be at sea level.
