Everyone thinks working with multi-ton parts is hard but after a lifetime of machine work I can tell you the small parts are the real challenge. I am amazed at the level of detail in this assembly. Very seriously impressed, this is watch maker level precision.
Repent to Jesus Christ “You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.””
Luke 12:40 NIV
J
I think working with the heavy parts is hard, but I definitely agree that working with smaller parts presents its own unique set of challenges. It's much easier to get a grip on a tie rod than it is a tiny screw. Especially when your old like me and your eyes and fingers don't want to work like they used to.😁
Side valve engine
Yup
Yea and i looked it up. Its cool but i dont have $1,500 for one 😂 . It is awesome though !
Didn't even know there was working mini model engines. Awesome work.
Search for toyan engines you will fing some pretty cool stuff: v8, rotaries (including a 2 rotor one), inline 4rs, 2 cylinders, single cylinders and even a supercharger for the toyan v8 with that awesome whine
@user-wx2bk8is4s now I want to see some put this on a rc car.
ikr? it just tickles my brain watching it get put together
this was designed to be used in an rc car
@@joeyginise6051 there are videos on yt where people use those engines on RC cars, worth checking them out.

I love how, because of the last video on mini engine building where a ton of people were questioning your timing of the cams, you show the TDC/timing marks/process on this one. :D
I'm thinking the poor exceleration is due to the timing being 12* Before TDC (top dead center), not 12* BELOW TDC, and work up from there, like it should be......
There's no below TDC. You are timing on degrees of rotation before TDC. He is correct.
@@wigs1098 Yeah, I was so puzzled at this comment I just ignored it. Lol
@@wigs1098 Either way, it still sounded like a timing issue whether it was retarded too much and needed to be advanced or visa-versa. I'm guessing one or two degrees different would have resolved it.
But then a leaking front seal and by the look of the smoke, either the rear main seal or head gasket was starting to go too.
Some of the parts weren't machined all that well too which made me wonder about the overall quality of the system although it is still very cool.

Wow an actual miniature version of a real engine! All the other ones I've seen are not in my opinion because they are not fired with a spark plug and do not have an oil system. This engine is way cool!

I find it absolutely delightful that this engine actually uses spark ignition instead of glow plug ignition.
an actual oil system is still the best part cuz every other model engine is just pumped full of grease
Yep , and oiling system and liquid cooled. Pretty neat
Are you really sure of what glow plugs are used for?
@@77funtomas Yeah diesels use them but many of the old school Cox motors for rc planes and cars used a glow plug , not a spark ignition… I think that’s what he’s talking about

This seems like an incredible way to teach young children/ novices or even just people who want to learn the basics of engine mechanics. I mean if you can understand how this works you’ll be less likely to get ripped off by a dodgy mechanic 😂
Still they are still ridiculously expensive, so I'd stick to a motorcycle engine, or a lawn mower engine

That is one of the best sounding miniature engine I’ve ever heard. !
A wet liner, wet sump, sidevalve engine. Brilliant.
Lap the valves, fix the front seal and a bit of carb work and it should be a winner.

Such phenomenal toys we have today. When I was a kid I got to play with dirt, bicycle was used for getting to school and back. We used to throw a trash can lid like a frisbee before the frisbee was invented. Built a go-cart, couldn't afford a gasoline engine so we used a electric bench grinder motor. Worked great until the extension cord ran out of range. We only dreamed of stuff like this.
Better than an XBox. Kids need to learn stuff
Yeah but this is 1000 bucks, 2000 if you get the whole package…
@@19099090 Buy a car at that price. 😭😭😭
You were lucky to have dirt to play with- I got piece of string for Xmas
Bet you wish you would have thought about that trashcan lid toy a little more. ;)
This knocks the spots of these Toyan engines imo, the wet sump, the plugs etc make it a real 4 stroke.
I’d like to see this one in an RC car, being a side valve engine, a body to suit the era of when that engine was in production (1940’s 1950’s) style bodywork..
It’s a shame there’s such a limited run on them, I should imagine that they’d be snapped up!
It is a nice engine, but at over $1000 it ought to be.
Imagine a 1950 scale size ford 8n tractor with this bad boy. Would be a cool rc car.
I would buy one
A pietenpol aircamper used a model A engine, I reckon it'd be cool to see it spinning a propeller on a scale model of one. I too was disappointed when I saw that it's only a run of 100.
The product quality of these engines is atrocious. I wouldn't put such a low quality engine in anything, not even an rc car.
This is something that EVERYBODY must experience in school, university, as a personal hobby, collectionist or educator.
This is top learning with a 'toy' that IS NOT a toy. This gives a clean idea what technology is. I could simply assemble it and have it as a decoration piece that is dismountable or make it WORK as a classical engine.
I can't explain how important this is. Schools must provide these experiences, with lego, THIS, block bending, block motors from lego and all other things. Learning should be FUN again.
Yeah, make learning FUN agan. :3
This is the best thing UA-cam algorithm has ever ever put as a suggestion for me. Thank you!!!!!!! On my way to buy a kit right now!!!
The I interesting thing about the flathead is that it runs. Nobody should kid themselves that it runs well, or is fuel efficient.
Beautifully made model, though... no getting away from that!
You probably get quite a bit better behaviour setting the ignition timing to 28 degrees BTDC.
This finally looks like an engine that is designed with doing serious runtime in mind, Like the centrifugal cooling pump and the geared oil pump.... Hate the fact that they are belt-driven: No oil pressure alarm, no cooling water temperature alarm, so a snapped belt will lead to near immediate selfdestruction.
Solution: place a motion detector on either one of the pumps, that shuts down ignition if no RPM is detected. That will with 100% certainty be an engine saver, because those belts ARE going to snap...
The valve adjusters also are most likely going to lead to trouble, and to remove them, the head needs to come off or there is not enough clearance to move the valves.
Probably run better with more advance but I bet it becomes hard to start with 28 degrees static advance.
@@ferrumignis Depends on whether the ignition has an automatic advance curve or not, I guess.
timing is based on bore size so that's way too much timing
@@redneckasmr-xd1gg I can assure you that that is absolutely UNtrue... I run several small gassers (< 3/4" bore) and they all time out optimal at 28 deg BTDS. That is, setting the timing with a full bore running engine and a tach...
This is just a shitty quality engine overall. Gears suck, etc.... too many cut corners, too low of a build quality, I wouldn't have bothered buying this, much less waste the time putting such a poorly manufactured engine together. Total waste.
This is so impressive. It's like the Rolex of mini engines. I enjoyed this very much.
This is truly a collector’s item, good job 👏 👏
I love these mini engines! I think they're so cool!

Actually I looked at the prices and even if they did exist my parents would never have bought me one!
You should please the kid you used to be and buy this motor ( or another ) as soon as possible .
Even if it costs three grand and he just changed his hobby halfway through the last one just like the last 20?
Maybe to help him pay for it or have him do some work that he can get paid for. You don’t always just buy your kids whatever they want just because they want it. Usually you can pick out the one child kid that always got what he wanted no matter how expensive it was. I don’t think I even have to tell you that it’s good for kids to work towards something nice.

Yo i like how the bearings are kept from spinning in place, theoretically, by some sort of hardware. Im sure some ungodly amount of torque can get them to spin but this will help prevent that. 🤘🏽✌🏽👍🏽 awesome vid as always
The bearings in EVERY other engine are held in place also. 😴
@@davelowets with hardware directly on the bearing? Maybe hard wear holding a bracket that holds the bearing, but im talking about a bolt in direct contact to the casing of the bearing itself like in this engine in this video. Yea some engines do have that but not every engine.
@@tomaslongoria2449 I'm not a big fan of screwing the end of a fastener into the side of a bearing race to hold it in place. The race of the bearing can easily be crushed out of round by a fastener that's a touch too long, or by too much torque on the fastener. I prefer the normal way with split bearing shells with tangs on them to keep them from spinning in tje housing.
Just by watching this video and a couple of your other videos, I can now certify myself as a mechanic.

Этот моторчик именно для души, а не для выгоды. А для ребёнка, вовремя познакомленного с ним, это может стать двигателем, на котором чадо сможет неплохо "поехать" по жизни.
Так что, "всё относительно"!
I would just like to mention, great build, but because you have set the spark plugs to 15* before tdc, the engine has low rpm and misfires, as you can see from the exhaust, flat head engines are meant to have around 4*-10* before tdc. But still, great build.
Interesting the differences between this and the Toyan engines, I wonder why they went with a flathead design? Normally flatheads aren't stellar for power or efficiency, but it probably will run for a very long time! I really appreciate that this has actual spark plugs and ignition system, as well as an oil system, pretty cool! I hope you can get it running proper. Looks like there might be some design improvements to be made.
Simplicity and manufacturing cost I suspect. OHV adds significant complexity.

Would this be a viable engine swap for my miata? I have a feeling it might be too big.
Too small for a Miata but perfect for a Civic.
Hah? Hah?
That's a nice little engine, right up my street!
There's a much better way to set the timing though, as finding TDC with a clock like that isn't the greatest, and could easily be a few degrees off. Use a degree-wheel on the crankshaft, and a pointer, zero the pointer with the piston 5mm or so down from TDC, the rotate the crankshaft backwards until the piston has gone down and back up again to 5mm from TDC, read the angle, then turn the crank until it's halfway between the angles you've measured, et voila! accurate TDC (or BDC if needed). it's way simpler than I made it sound though!
Extraordinaire !!!!!!! Superbe boulot!!!
