    Out of all the street photography pov videos ive watched, yours has the best format and gives me enough time to look at your photos with out pausing.

      I'm glad you like my format - thanks for letting me know!
      I agree with you that most street videos show the images way to short. It feels a bit as if the photographers don't really value their own work.

    I really enjoyed the format of this video. The "Keeper, Print, and Hang" idea is great. Also I appreciate the amount of time you keep each photo on screen, I feel the viewer really gets time to soak in the picture and analyze it. I look forward to your next video!

      Thanks for the feedback about the image's screen time. I wasn't sure about how long to show them, but generally I think images should be given enough time to look at without having to stop the video (which would also disturb the video's flow). Because this video is "faster" than usual (which imo fits the street theme), I did generally shorten the presentation time compared to other videos and had to sometimes cut it even more to sync with the music.

    You are extremely talented, we love your video format. Please do consider a video of your GR2 settings for us, also tell us about the printer you use? You're such an inspiration for our family! We have subscribed to your channel, you're possibly the most entertaining out there!

    • @thomasrhinow

      What a nice comment to start the day - thank you so much!
      I might include the GR2 settings in a critique video, but it's quite simple: I have the camera on Av/Tv Mode, shutter speed at 1/100th, max auto ISO set to 6400 (although the Ricoh's noise isn't that ugly, I would never go beyond that) and adjust aperture as wanted/needed depending on image idea (small or large depth of field) and lighting conditions. In low light I drop shutter speed too down to 1/25th - and hold my breath :). Same applies if I want motion blur, like in the "man in front of red train" shot.
      My printer is the Epson SC-P800 which prints up to A2 in lovely quality. Only the fiddly feeding of the heavy Hahnemühle Fine Art papers into the front loader can be annoying - else I'm very happy with it.
      Cheers

    Great video, just found your channel. Very strong shots each in its own way.
    I wish you would have explored more with the circles to find a stronger shot. They stood out in my eye. But, I did like the one with the stairs right before you started to print the pictures in the video.
    Overall, so nice to see your work

      Thank you very much! I guess you meant to comment on the "Sneaking in" video, with the spiral staircase.
      Yes I totally agree with the circles, because I had/have the same feeling that there is a stronger shot. My time was running out however and I couldn't stay any longer. But it's very likely that I'll return to look for that shot.
      Cheers

      Ebenso liebe Grüsse :)

    Love the video I agree with your choices. I just wish you would’ve done more with the circles on the side of the building, I thought that there would’ve been a strong shot there. But it was nice to see somebody during videos of brutalism.

    Hi! I admire your work ,please continue to make these wonderfull videos. I would like to ask if you prefer grii over griii? Do you consider grii more artistic due to the old less megapixel sensor ; positive film and high contrast black and white presets? Thank you

    • @thomasrhinow
      @thomasrhinow  Рік тому +1

      Hi! Thank you very much for your nice comment. I will continue making videos also thanks to such positive feedback.
      I can't answer your question directly, since I never used the griii, in fact I didn't even look at the specs. What I can tell you though is that cameras are just tools needed to produce photographs. What's important is the image content which is created exclusively by the person behind the camera. Tools should fit the user, support them and not get in the way, so they can achieve the best possible result.
      What the grii-tool does for me is: tiny pocket size to always have it with me, a fixed focal length I really like (no thinking about what lens to take/use/change to), image quality that's more than enough for what I expect from such a small camera, battery life that lasts long enough for a decent shooting session, the ability to shoot raw.
      What I miss: taking it in the rain i.e. weather sealing and being able to clean the sensor without having to dismantle the whole camera.
      There are 2 possible moments I start to look for a replacement: the camera breaks or the dust on the sensor becomes unbearable.
      About the presets: I shoot exclusively in raw (with every camera I own) and b/w convert/edit the images in Lightroom (stone old version 4, but that's also a tool that does all I need). I never use in-camera presets.
      Sorry for the lengthy text, which doesn't really answer your question, but I hope you can still take away something.
      Cheers

    Nice to see you can photograph ánd film that easy on a train station. In the Netherlands I have to do it very very low profile and a tripod is an absolute no-go. I would be kicked out of the station in seconds :-)

    • @thomasrhinow
      @thomasrhinow  Рік тому

      Luckily, there are almost nowhere security guards in Switzerland - except in the big stations (I would like to create videos in Zurich main station, but didn't find the courage yet).
      Except for 2-3 takes, I was quite low profile too - shooting handheld or put the tripod a bit out of sight. When shooting and/or filming I usually enter what I call the "under a bell" state, where I'm like alone in an invisible bubble and let nothing disturb me. I noticed that while in this state, it seems like suddenly people just accept my and my gear's presence. Maybe I then have a "folks, this just has to be done - there's no way around it" face :)

      I just spoke to a former photographer yesterday and he told me, that when he was working inside trains and asked people if he may photograph them, if the first one agreed, the whole wagon agreed too. If not, nobody else was willing to get photographed.

      @thomasrhinow  Рік тому +2

      Thank you!
      For the wall I'm going through the Hahnemühle FineArt paper sample packs with two of each paper. So many different papers between 280g/m2 and 350g/m2 - except the rice paper which is 100g/m2 and the one I really don't like. When there's a print on each paper, I will decide which one (or maybe two) of them I'll buy in A2.
      Cheers

    New subscriber here. Some of your photos that I think look great are the same photos you don’t keep. What’s you criteria? Same for printing. Some seem really cool shots that you keep but don’t print. Just curious.

      Thanks for the sub!
      I can't tell you any general evaluation criteria other than I can be a pretty ruthless editor, because it always depends on the photograph and my intentions behind it. So far there is one image critique video (about the milky way images), where I try to explain my thoughts and decisions and I really want to do more of that kind of explanation video - it's just a matter of time and pushing myself to talk in front of the camera again. There are a couple of community posts too with the considerations behind some of my decisions. Having a look there might give you some insight.
      One general rule always applies though: it's all a question of taste.
      Cheers

    Like the two images of the lights and would print either both or either one. The image with the person on the escalator where you dragged the shutter. I would have liked it more if you 1) dragged the shutter more for more of a red streak and 2) waited for the passenger to get closer to you.
    Please continue to post.

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
      To get the woman on the escalator streaking would have benn a possibility. I wanted her to be as sharp as possible though and the rest of the image blurry. For this, my best chance was to have her far away. Also just a bit further down the escalator, people entered into the shadow, which made the colors vanish.
      Cheers
