  • Join me in my 2020 beekeeping season as I share how I maintain my beehives from winter through the following fall. In this video I'm busy bottling honey for the market this weekend. I bottle honey, for the most part, once a week.
    My videos are not meant to be 'How To' videos, but simply me sharing my experiences in beekeeping as I learned it from my mentors, teachers, and studies.

    In this video Mike the only Tip I think I could say is that man that was behind you trying to put labels on . You should maybe let him go or give him a little more money so he will work a little faster . He did look like a nice man 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️. Thanks you are a funny man

    That warming box is AWESOME. I never thought about something like that, but I can definitely see the benefit. Very cool.

    LOVE it! I was thinking it would be a good idea to “talk to each other” in the combined clips, and you did! I laughed out loud. Great stuff.
    Will the honey keep longer in the bottler vs a 5 gallon bucket?

    • @MikeBarryBees
      @MikeBarryBees  2 роки тому +1

      Glad you enjoyed the little skit! As far as keeping longer, no difference in the bucket vs. bottle, just more trouble to liquify it once in the bottle. I can put a whole bucket in my heater box (converted commercial freezer) and get t loosened up in a couple days, then dump that in my bottler and get it completely back to liquid. Then it's at the ready for bottling any time.

    Mike I like your way you do your special approach for your Bees.I bottled up 360 1 pound jars, crystalized
    Now I know how to fix it. Thankyou Jerry

    • @MikeBarryBees
      @MikeBarryBees  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks Jerry. Honestly, if you sell your honey, I truly believe a small bottler or even a homemade double wall warmer is worth every penny. When us small time guys see the price, at first we think we’re to small to invest in one. But in the end, when you’re working full time and doing other life activities, the bottler is worth every penny. No more warming bottles that have gotten solid. Just bottle a few at a time and the bottler keeps the honey for you. You need a bottle, you get one and fill it. No warning, no fuss. This is not a paid advertisement, just saying, don’t let a price keep you back. Not when you’re dealing with 300+ lbs to move.

    Hello Mike... beautiful beework hut you have I really love it. ❤️ Can you tell me more about the heating box for melting back crystallised honey jars. How have you made it?

    • @MikeBarryBees
      @MikeBarryBees  Рік тому +1

      Thanks so much! I shot some video on my heater boxes that I plan to put out soon. My small box is simply a crate that was destined for the trash and I put a simple dimmer switch with a light bulb socket in. No thermostat at all. I turn it to about half brightness and put a dozen bottles in over night and it works great. Just 110VAC household dimmer and socket. The age of that box will depend on how long I can still get incandescent builds. My big box uses heat lamps with properly matched wattage light fixtures and I bought a thermostat that keeps it at a constant temp, plus or minus 5 degrees. 110VAC wired into the thermostat and then 110VAC out and to a household electrical socket. Then I plug the heat lamps to that. There are east plug thermostat units that you can easily find on Amazon these days for less wiring. The cabinet is a broken commercial freezer.

      I put a 40w light bulb in a wooden box and plced the crustalized honey jars around it, let's see what will be. After 8 hours

    • @MikeBarryBees
      @MikeBarryBees  Рік тому

      @@TamerRagheb that should do it. I used a 60W and had to turn it down, so that should work.

    • @TamerRagheb
      @TamerRagheb Рік тому +1

      @Mike Barry
      The result was good, 40w did a good job in 8 hours, I think I should try to center the lamp inside the box and install a 30w instead, weather isn't that cold in Egypt. However, citrus raw honey usually crystalizes after one year of production.

    Hey Mike. Another great video. Can I ask where you get your labels made and what information you put on them? Lastly what size is that work room? I have a smaller shed and am thinking about upgrading to a larger shed, Just trying to get ideas. Thanks.

    • @MikeBarryBees
      @MikeBarryBees  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks Ken! I get my labels made locally at a place down in Harahan. AdGraphics. I have name, the word honey, size in pounds, then size in ounces and kilos. As far as my shed, I built it 12’X30’. Should when wider and shorter, but it works as is.

    Mike. Can you keep the honey at 85 to 90 F indefinitely without damage?

    • @MikeBarryBees
      @MikeBarryBees  2 роки тому +1

      I’m not sure about indefinitely, but as I’ve read if we can keep it in the 90’s and below, it maintains it’s beneficial enzymes. For how long I’m just not sure, but down here the honey stays that warm at least for 6 months on the hives. And I have it moved through my bottler much faster than that.

    • @ThatBeeMan
      @ThatBeeMan 2 роки тому +1

      @@MikeBarryBees Yes, I understand that anything under 100f will be ok but I just wondered if you'd pushed that envelope to the point of discolouring the honey.

    • @MikeBarryBees
      @MikeBarryBees  2 роки тому +1

      @@ThatBeeMan no, never that far. It tends to darken on its own in the buckets over the year, but never any darker coming out of the bottling tank than going in. I darkened some early on, really came close to burning it, with the Mann Lake bucket warmer that is a fixed temp and no variables. So that device is tricky and I never use it anymore. That was before my bottling tank and freezer conversion to a hot box.

    • @ThatBeeMan
      @ThatBeeMan 2 роки тому

      @@MikeBarryBees Likewise I've had to do a lot of experimenting to use my warming cabinet. 600 lbs of granulated honey is tricky to liquefy. I got it down to a science now though.
