The tip at the end "point your pole towards your bobber, real as fast as you can until you feel tension, AND THEN set the hook. Great advice. Instinct tells you to set the hook first.
Great debate and both camps are 'right'... hey, soft-bead guy here, and lately for kicks I've tried Berkley power eggs in place of a soft bead (pink) and works the same, so not just for steelhead, you can downsize this exact strategy for all kinds of trout. With the power eggs, as a bonus, as they come out of the jar connected in a string, you can rig up two or three and not worry about them sliding separately...
Thank you for the last part, I needed to hear that for fly bobber fishing, I noticed this myself today but you confirmed it 100% and finally I see the answer, I need to reel first and point towards the bobber before setting the hook, got it...I missed probably like 10 big fish at the minimum today on the river with a stonefly nymph, got two, but meh, so many bobber downs...where I even saw the size of the fish on the strike. What I was doing lol, was pulling up on the strikes, and indeed, it was just ruining the line of sight, so I was frustrated...so instead, reel down to tension in order to set yourself up for a successful set, rather than one that simply pull the bait away or out of the mouth of the fish.
I watched Jordon tie on one of your bead hooks with just a fisherman knot what do you think about using a power snell knot like they use on a circle hook?
Love the small bead below the bead stop idea , guaranties that the big bead is not sliding down to the hook … in a pinch a knot works fairly good not as … making sure the bead is pegged is really important .. don’t want it sliding down to the hook blocking it from hooking the fish …. These Addicted guys are frikin great ( the entire group) , don’t know if most people know it .. but much of the info these guys give us are guide secrets that many guide hold onto for themselves and surely aren’t shared with the general public … but the Addicts ..they get it , the more people that are catching fish when they go , the more fun they have , the more fish Addicts it makes …. Caught my first nice chrome Steele on a big 20 mm BnR soft bead and he hammered that big ol bead … keep fishing it till you get used to the feel and bite , takes practice .. but I’m drift fishing not bobber dogging … Thanks man great info
you can have the bead locked in place with a peg you just have to go through the bead twice with the line before you peg it, but that tiny bead to stop the bigger bead is a nice trick too
I love you guys thanks for the great video very helpful, I noticed that nick has a tan line around his hands from the nitrile gloves he wears all the time😂😂👍
To tie the bead stop hook you want to slide the glass stop onto the leader then bring the tag end threw the other side then proceed to wrap your hook threw the circle ⭕️ that you made threading threw the stop about four times keeping it between the lines twist you have now created simply keep it two inches above the hook
can you explain or clarify if the bead is going to drift "ahead" of the float? In my limited experience, I had a hard time getting the bead to move faster than the float, usually, they will go in parallel or the bead will fall behind as currents are usually slower in the bottom. Also, can you let us know when will you change things up? Like after 10 casts in the run? Do you re-rig another bead to fish in the same spot(assuming fishes are spooked)?
Spinning reels aren't all that tough to get good floats with. Before I got my center pin, I'd hold the fore grip of the rod, and use my pinkie finger to feather the spool with the bail open. Took a bit of practice, but after a day or two on the river it becomes second nature. Just make sure you can quickly trip the bail when your float drops. Tight lines!
@@CottagebumHeavyHauler I was wondering how cna you achieve a natural drift where the bead will be traveling ahead of the float and ideally pulling the float. The problem I have is that the float often runs ahead of the bead so its slacking and not creating a good presentation.
@@brian-lau through a combination of "mending" your line and "checking" your float, you should be able to achieve the bait/bead first float. Google the terms to get a better definition than I can provide...
How do you set the depth in this rig? It is the length of the bobber stop to the inline weight? For e.g. in low 3 ft of water the depth would be 2.5ft? From bobber stop to inline weight?
Just grab a little round pack of the assorted sizes you’ll end up using them all for salmon and steelhead. I taper 3 or 4 different sizes down to the middle of my leader. From the top by your weight go size 7 size 5 size 4 and a couple small BB size at the bottom. About 12” from your bead. Look up split shot shot pattern 🎣
How about a series of fishing where we live...I’ll start off, Joshua tree California, so big bear lake, perris lake, Silverwood lake, etc. thanks let me know when your here, I’ll make you dinner
Great video, but I don't understand your logic in regards to hookset. 6iu say that I can't set the hook if there's too much line on the water, and that instead ikk just "pull
as a new fishman im confused about why and how the bead doesnt go on the actual hook though... does the fish just swallow the whole leader? i don't get it
In a different video, Jordan says that using a leader that long is essentially flossing. I had never even heard of it before I saw Jordan's video. Now I'm stressed about someone thinking I'm flossing. Or snagging. Jordan seem pretty serious about the whole thing so what's the deal? Do I need to be careful with this?

I wonder if this method would work on the centerpin.
A great video!!! You explained everything in simple and easy to understand terms. The best how-to video I have seen on your channel.
Holy glove tan line!!! That was some good info!
Great job Nick, you do an excellent job of presenting a clear, concise and informative tutorial. Looking forward to more!!

very interesting is this will work in salt water too?
That bead below the bead is brilliant!
Nice step up 👍👍👍👍
Always solid content!!
Awesome Thanks for sharing
Beads are so deadly effective . Great vid.
The title alone got the thumbs up!
Great info, thanks for sharing.
Always great info... love your videos and information... love me bead fishing.. keep it up and can't wait to see y'all on the water one of these days

Warp stabilizer requires clip pixel aspect ratio to match sequence (fix by nesting) ;)
Huh? Lol
Addicted Fishing 0:39 also I’ve caught more fish since I found this channel then I have in the last 10 years. Amazing content. Best of the best.

Honestly was expecting marlin to be explaining this topic
🤣 naaaaaaa
Lol, was expecting jordan to show us some flossingcough beedfishing, as marlin would say fishing his worms ha
THANK YOU! I WAS LITErALLY SEARCHING FOR THIS lol
I was wondering if this technique would work in still waters. We fish a lot for steelhead in the harbor where there is no current.
Excited to give this a try!
What test line are you using just curious ? Love the set up 😮
Can you fish at crooked creek east springfield, PA. There's hundreds of steelhead and yes it's a nursery water but you can fish their still.

FANTASTIC video!
Do you feel the hard bead knot weakens the leader? I’m curious if that’s now the weakest link. Like the idea awesome video
Not at all! It’s super strong.

Use a bait caster and trot the float with your thumb or get a centerpin. Floats with a spinning reel isn’t really effective.

Did you just color you braided line?
Ive been adding a night crawler to the hook. Knocking em silly right now!
Do you have a link to the bead you used in this video? Thanks!
Just getting started. Great info!
Thanks for another good tutorial
Hello. What is the ratio of beads to bait? For example, bait 15-16 mm., Beads 8-10 mm.
there is no bait , just beads
Where is the link for the knot on the little glass bead?

what's the knot you use to keep the bead in place? didn't see that in the links....thx
What line were u using for your main line?
Is the glove tan on the hands the key to this rig?
What hook style/brand do you recommend for bead fishing King salmon?
What brand sunglasses are those?
What's the link for trying the small bead that stops the hard bead ,?
Hey, your fishing hole looks like the same hole I fish on the S. Toutle! Where you from?
How far is the float from the first big wait..?then you tied the leader...
Awesome video thanks!

are beads better then corkies? i've got tons of corkies lying around i never use...
What weight is that float? Thanks.

Looked like Nick was wearing lunch lady gloves...
He does when he is guiding.
Jordan had a way different vibe before he found weed. Glad he chilled out!
I put my beads right on the hook itself. That way there is no excuse for the hook to not be in the fishes mouth.
what's the size of that glass bead under the salmon/steelhead bead?
How do you feel about using multiple beads?
What size rod and and action
any creative way to attach the bead without a stopper?
Thumbs up!!!

How do you have all that line and cast. That's like ten feet?
I'm also a fly fishermen can soft and hart beads be fished with a fly rod

Pink beads work best for salmon, red bead is best for trout
Don’t see link on tying that stopper bead on mobile UA-cam. Will check the web version. But in future, if it was a pinned comment that would work.

Why am I lost? I thought we could only use a 3 foot leader?
Depends on the river regs where you're fishing. I know some rivers where they put that restriction in place due to snagging and flossing.
Sometimes I forget this channel isnt exclusive to just Oregon lol
Location?
I apologize. for your information, a true steelhead is only a rainbow trout that swims back to the ocean.
Did Nick shave? Start working out? Looking good Bro 💪 seriously 👊
Trout fishing shouldn’t be this complicated lol. Cool video though
2 minutes in and it's already too complicated. I want a simpler rig.
20-30 minutes tieing up first cast snags a submerged log and breaks the whole rig off!
It takes you that long? Jesus
