And it's all run by private corporations that benefit from you NOT finding a match. So glad I met my wife in 2012 right before Tinder really started to take off.

Im from Brazil, and installed tinder after watching both videos out of curiosity, and I found out I do not fit in this app. swiped for about 20 minutes, I liked maybe 3 profiles, and I was on speedrun mode. While I technically am lucky, since I get decent flow of matches, I'm really bad about capitalizing on it. For me, the real value of it is having a place to bump into people I already semi-know or wanna know better with the "dating app" subtext attached to the interaction. Those people actually reply to messages, and are way more likely to give you a shot if they've been in the same room with you before. So imo, you should still put in the legwork to go out and be social, because you may find it makes the apps work better for you.

Honestly, I'm just not going to actively look outside of people I meet in my day-to-day. Relationships eat up most of the time I like to spend on my hobbies and if it's a kind of "forced" thing like "I need to not be single", it's not gonna work out anyway and I'd be better off just doing what I like, living at my own pace. If I run into someone I like a lot at some point, I'll go for it.

12:30 what do you mean by "having an emotional conversation"? Beyond making it a "...and how does that make you feel?" conversation, what does it look like naturally? I try commenting on what a person has written in their bio to create an open conversation, but they usually fall flat with boring responses or don't respond at all. I think I'm falling into the factoid trap mentioned or making it about myself more than about the other person, but I simply don't understand how to go about it any other way.

While I technically am lucky, since I get decent flow of matches, I'm really bad about capitalizing on it.
