I am from the Mediterranean and I agree with Dr. Longo. I grew up eating mainly vegetables, fruits, nuts and whole grain corn bread, occasionally fish, all organic with olive oil. I used to complain to my grandma about eating so much plants like a sheep. I lived in Europe, Japan and now in USA. Unfortunately, American life is not healthy at all, people are stressed all the time here. That affects their sleep and eating habits. I think if Americans live less stressful lives, they will make better choices.

Got me hooked in the beginning - no breakfast for 25 years, OMG! Great video and so much useful information right here. Fasting is really good and has so many positive effects on your body. Been fasting occasionally in the last year 🙌🙌

I know I'm a bit late on this, but maybe my anecdote will help someone.
I went from being someone that was aware of calorie restriction extending life in animal trials and knowing that fasting had the potential for many beneficial effects on human health, to a person too scared to start trying. Despite being miserable in this holding pattern for over a decade, I had a visceral reaction to skipping meals when I wanted to step over the threshold.
I jumped into the deep end by spontaneously saying "I'm just going to start with 48 hours," rather than starting with 18-6 IMF or 24 hours. I turned around and did it again before a week of feeding went by. Best choice I have made this year, because then I understood that I _could._ My confidence is uncorked. Now, whatever fasting regimen that I settle on deciding is safe I will be able to do.

I've always taken the approach to a healthier diet by eating a balanced diet, 25% protein, 25% carbs and 50% vegetables. It seemed to have worked well so far, and also incorporating one plant-based dish per week. I don't believe in fad diets because those are short-term. Healthy eating is consistent and long-term.

I've read Dr Longo's work and kept up with him for a long time, but I've noticed some issue with what he says.
If you notice in the end, he clearly states that he has had better results with fasting mimicking on mice that were unhealthy and overweight. By defnition, putting them on any diet that resitricts calories will increase their lifespan. This well documented and established.
There is a lot of user bias. We have a lot of data to show blue zones eating lots of red meat too.
I'm always skeptical when companies use unhealthy rats, put them on a healthier diet, and then say 'quit red meat'.
Its like, why can't you just do a normal trial? Compare healthy vs healthy? Is it because you wouldn't get the results you are looking for?
Hong Kong has the highest life expectancy and the highest meat consumption in the world, including red meat.
Red meat has lots of benefits, its time we stop demonising this superfood.

He lost me when he said no red meat, lumped it in with the western diet, didn't mention very healthy organic grass fed and gave low level evidence. There are zero randomized controlled trails or high-quality studies saying all red meat is bad for you.

What if everything we thought we knew about a "healthy" diet was wrong and fat is actually good for you, the cholesterol you eat doesn't necessarily raise bad cholesterol levels in the body, and meat, whole eggs, and butter is good for you.
