A new ultra compact model from Nitecore, this time the company started this project on Kickstarter. It's an unusually flat body, but with dual two stage switches for ease of use, also an OLED display gives detailed information on power level and run time, as well as charging.
The body is made from stainless steel with a special Titanium PVD coating, which gives a grippy finishing (matte effect). The design looks well suited for a slim pocket carry, but also takes up little space in a backpack of bag.
I take an in depth look at the Nitecore EDC27, and give you some of my thoughts on this model.

Good review made me want to buy this product I been looking for descent flashlight that's bright and this is asome do to skinny fits in your pocket just great to have at all times.good review you got me to be a fan of this flashlight.thanks for sharing✌️😉
Great informative video. This EDC27 is definitely moving towards the form factor of the Tip SE. The T4K was always hindered by it's very "blocky" form factor that would disqualify it from most EDC users rotation system. One thing Nitecore got right with the T-Series was offering the user a light with a beam pattern that is functional and widening it's application for daily use and not spearing towards the all too typical tac light beam pattern with it's very obvious hotspot. I own the Tip SE and it's the light I use more than any of my other lights. The EDC27 is definitely taking the the T series concept and attempting of making it more powerful and increasing capacity without making it cumbersome like the T4K and TUP.
I agree whilst the TUP/T4K were interesting models, there were not really suited to a pocket carry (OK for jacket carry), and really too big for keyring/chain use for many people. This new form factor is much better suited for EDC I think. Perhaps we will see more models based in similar designs.
Battery capacity is also decent, quite a bit up from the T4K/TUP. I think the beam is fine, fairly floody but not too spread out, you still have a decent range with it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this
Nice review as always! I think this design is interesting and yes you are right, this is the new model to give a solution to the "200-4000 lumen" gap on the T4K. However, Nitecore should create a new battery solution/pack that would be removable in the future-something like on their headlight models. You know, that flat battery.
Being able to get to the battery would be useful, seems a trend though to go with built in batteries. I was never a fan of that. Phones are a classic example, very easy to have replaceable batteries. I think we know why they do it!
As a TUP owner I love the display and the unique designs that aren't just tubes, Nitecore and others are putting out. However I just can't see myself putting more money into enclosed battery designs. Some of my tube lights with removable batteries will probably outlive me. Additionally, in my opinion, Fenix's threaded and double o-ring usb-c cover design is a game changer, that I hope to see other companies copy or somehow improve. Great review btw. Keep it up.
Interesting, what is the Fenix double O ring cover on? Which models from Fenix.
I like Fenix, though their holsters can be a bit weedy on some products. I have a feeling Nitecore will do more variations of this, perhaps different sizes. It does seem to be quite popular
@@MrBazReviews The Fenix Tk20R V2 and the PD25 R have the threaded cover. I have the PD25 and it's a great light, although the UI could be improved.
@@billybobthorton2026 Thanks I will have a look at that, sometimes the covers are not that great. Any improvements are welcome
Nitecore EDC27 v2, one of the best EDC flashlights on the market. Good review, thanks 👍
It's interesting thanks for the comment!
Yes! This is the most amazing flashlight form factor. It's like the TIP SE on steroids!
It's quite interesting I think the style works well for an EDC. Good battery life and plenty of power. I like it in most ways
Its now 9 months after your excellent review. I have wanted a flashlight in this form factor for a while. I had held off on this EDC27 in hopes that Olight would develop the Arkfeld into a white light only dual LED flashlight. That has not happened, the newest model the Arkfeld Pro still has a green laser and a UV light, and only one white light LED. I have the Arkfeld Pro and although a very nice quality light it has features I don't need and falls short in total lumen output. Plus I think the EDC27 with provide a better beam pattern for my use out doors. So after re-watching your review I have decided to purchase the EDC27. As always I appreciate your most excellent reviews.
There is to me nothing wrong with the beam on this, it certainly has enough power and I like the overall concept. Nothing is perfect and it might work better for some then others, perhaps Nitecore will do more of these over time (different sizes), though there are drawbacks (built in battery etc).
The shape does work very well for a pocket or slipping it on a backpack belt, you do need to use the lock-out in my experience.
Very cool light! Fixed battery is no big deal, it'll last for years! 👍
It bothers some which is a valid point, it should last for years the battery
I m not worried about that, what I don't like is during times of emergency if I dont have enough charge I m stuck with replaceable battery I can swap it out with a charged one and would be good to go.
It's not hard to change these batteries out as far as like the idea of it being trash at the end of its life but ya as far as not being able to instantly have a full battery I have rarely found to be an issue
@@james10739 It depends if you can get hold of the battery too. This is a custom size one, it might not be easy to find at all.
@@MrBazReviews I mean you probably won't find one local but the internet is a pretty big place
Asome review made me want to purchase this items for being such a good pocket fit not so wide heavy and packs a little punch of brigthness yha this one will become my buddy.thank ones again for the good review.
It's fun and useful yet I think they might make some more on this design perhaps a smaller one
Nice look Mr B, pretty impressive love this design also. Look forward to the next one
I quite like the body design it's nice and slim
That was an EXCELLENT presentation of all of the features & thanx for posting!🇺🇸😃
Thanks I try to keep things on point and not drag them out too long. It's a balance trying to show enough in detail without rambling on ;-D
Normally shy away from built in batteries, until I bought a rovyon angel eye side angle light. Been my go to since working the theater. This Nitecore is going to be the replacement to that rovyon.
I prefer to have access to the battery for 2 reasons. When it is flat you can swap it out, and when it is worn you can replace it. But I do like the concept of this and think it is quite good overall.
Non replaceable battery is a huge negative for me.
I would have liked that I think it makes sense long term
@@MrBazReviews specifically for EDC / Emergency lights. I can quickly swap out old battery for new.
@@Hershal13 It's a fair point, we do seem to be moving towards built in batteries on these products. I was never a fan of built in batteries, devices like phones/notebooks even more puzzling
Whaaaaa? That's sucks. That's a no go for me. With a high discharge item like this the batteries are only good for a few hundred discharges before it's shot.
Wonder how hard it would be to change. Probably just some soldering but you'd probably need to get ahold of whatever battery they're using.
@@Nuck-Fo0bZz Tell it to the makers and other device manufactures. Sadly they don't seem to take notice
You would probably get more than a few hundred charges though, and there is a 2 year warranty
Nice competitor to the stiletto and wedge
It has sparked some interest, that is for certain
and the olight arkfield
I have both and the wedge xt and I carry the wedge the most now
This looks like the one I've been waiting for..great review thanks for the peek..👍
Nothing is perfect, but the design is pretty appealing
So far I have been carrying it 3 days and the only thing I don't like about it is when people at the office see it that keep asking me when I started vaping.
Hmm kind of big for a vape device isn't it? Can't say it looks like anything vape I've seen!
Wow, this is really something new from Nitecore!
It's different isn't it, I think it's got something good going on here. Nice slim profile
It's different isn't it, I think it's got something good going on here. Nice slim profile
@@MrBazReviews Yes it is. Breakthrough for their EDC model and an instant love!
Great informative video. I just purchased one.
It's different you will probably like it!
Really cool design, it doesn't need to be that powerful tbh.
Lumens sell, gets people more excited I suppose ;-D
It's a turbo for a short burst, sometimes you might need that power. Better to have it there than it not be possible at all because someone thinks that it's unnecessary most of the time.
Agreed I barely use turbo at all 200 lumens is enough 90% of the time
@@austinbratton9973 but it's cool that it is.
Nice review,thanks!👍
Appreciate that it's more a hands on though
I've been interested to get Surefire Stiletto ( since 2019 ) because of the slim form factor and still not decided to get it because of the price and availability. Excited to see Nitecore EDC27 release, profile wise similar with SF Stiletto and definetely Nitecore will get my money once it's available on local online market place.
Yes I saw that Surefire, no doubt it has inspired a few others to do similar designs. It's a shame I can't get hold of Surefire to review, just not as popular or easy to get hold of in Europe. I don't think they send out items for review
@@MrBazReviews yes avaibility is the one factor beside price that hold me off buying SF Stiletto. It's the same here ini Indonesia, barely any shops carry Surefire on their store. In the other hand, Nitecore is extremely popular and widely available here. Sometimes the price also cheaper than the MSRP. Hope EDC27 will availabe here soon, cant wait to get one!
The videogame like display and thinness sold me. Need one.
The concept is very good, a few tweaks to the design - overall I like it though.
You do have to use the lock-out function, that is one thing to note
Really very nice >>>>> Thank you
Thank you too for stopping by and leaving a comment
small but very bright 👍👍👍
You wouldn't be unhappy with the output for the size!
Wish they would create an app that lets you control the light levels you want. Remove strobe, control strobe speed, dial in max burst lumens, etc
That's a pretty good idea, means you could tweak it to your own needs
@@MrBazReviews yup, custom to your use case, all software. For example my Wedge at 300/1000 lumens is too bright for close up tasks. Would love a 150/1000 vs the 300/1000
Useful review, thanks
Thanks for the comment appreciate it
Interesting form factor for sure
I think you'll like it, seems to work quite well for what they are trying to do
Thank you for the review! The UI seems a bit tricky so it might not replace my EDC Fenix PD35 (clicky tail switch, simple UI) but it seems like a flashlight I'd like to have in my collection.
I found the UI simple enough it's a dual stage for both switches, pretty easy to remember. You do need to use the full lock-out though to prevent the Turbo going off!
@@MrBazReviews Btw, since it seems to be an electric switch, have you been able to measure the standby current? My Nitecore EC4S drains its batteries in 4 months even when unused.
@ It's a preview/hands on so no in depth testing has been done, yet. However Nitecore quote 1uA drain, which is very low indeed. I doubt you would have any issues if that is accurate
No comments on the lack of battery change capability? These flat lithium lights are convenient, but expensive for disposable lights. Do you know if Nitecore will support a post purchase battery change when needed?
Perhaps watch the update video where I talk about the built in battery ;-D
A preview is a preview
Nitecore always support a send back battery change as they have on the Tiny Monster and other similar models
I’d like to see this in comparison to the surefire stiletto as far as flood goes
I've never had a Surefire to test, never heard from the company at all.
If you look at the Candela, it would appear the Surefire is more floody compared to the Nitecore
Nice review Mr Baz
Cool design, something different.
Would be cool if the pocket clip would revolve.
Not a fan of the switch placement, mainly because the electronic lockout are sometimes finicky on some of the Nitecore lights.
No excuse being caught in the dark these days, even as a muggle.
👍
The only thing to note switches, is the flat one has low resistance, so really you do need to use the lock-out (2 full lockout) . I like the concept and thinking in most ways on this, it's offers something different.
Move the selector switch to the middle side of the body, put a magnet on the base and a swivel head on it and I’m in !
I would imagine they might do more variations of this type, so it could be possible. Seems to be quite a bit of interest in the design.
You wouldn't be able to make it a swivel head as the entire body is required to keep it cool.
@@Dubst3pT3ch yeah, I guess a flashlight with all the features I mentioned is the Olight Arkflex. That’ll be my next flashlight.👍🏽
I have only 3 problems with this light 1. Button doesn't always work so you have to press it multiple times. 2. Lenses feel like that they could scratch easily when it's in your pocket. 3. You can't change battery to it.
Some have had button issues, I didn't see that but I know a few have. I'd like an easy way to change the battery, that would be useful. It seems to be quite popular, various makers trying similar things.
It always seems Nitecore misses the mark for me just slightly.
If they only put a red light on this !
It would be perfect, just why.
Will it stop me from purchasing it ? No, because I love the form factor.
I’ve been buying Nitecore lights since the beginning, and I still own every one of them. I’ve never had a single issue with their lights, the early batteries I had issues with, but they are holding up great the last few years.
My favorite light that everyone hated is the
Concept 1, I own 4 of these and use them multiple times a day.
One in my bedroom,
One in my living room,
One in my bathroom,
One in my go bag, with several other models, spare batteries, chargers, 2 headlamps, and 2 Nitecore NB10000 power banks. (Holding up great, 100s of cycles.)
The last few years I picked up some Olights to see what the hype was about, the larger lights are just overpriced garbage, but I do have to say I really like the imini and i3e as 5th pocket lights, I removed the rings and threaded tiny paracord though the eyelets creating foot long tethers attached to belt loops.
Very nice review. 👏
Thank you.
Concept 1 was an interesting design, I didn't mind the site switch, but it would have been so much better with a lock on it (ie mechanical lock). I know you can twist it to cut the power. I think people had issues with the Concept 1 going into Turbo for a pocket carry and it was pretty powerful. I always liked the body design myself and shape - I think they could have done more with it, and the UI wasn't to everyone's taste. I was not shocked it got a mixed reception
This however does hit the mark much closer than most. I'm not sure that there is enough space for a red LED without enlarging the body or head. So far I like it but need to play around with it longer term. You do need to lock it out though no question about that
I wouldn’t say olights are garbage. I’ve had just about every light brand you could imagine ( currently been edcing a reylight pineapple mini copper) but olights are deff solid lights. I wouldn’t say garbage by any means. I have a warrior mini 2 absolute animal of a light! Baton 1 2 and 3pro, the i5r and t and an obulb plus and every single product has been through abuse and took it and loved it, never had a single problem with any of there lights!
Nitecore missed the mark with this light imo. They wanted to make an edc light but put tactical features on it. It's too long and while 3000 lumens is impressive, you will not use it in an edc light other than to show off to your friends how bright your light is while draining the battery 15 seconds at a time. Another missed mark is the 6500k temp. A warmer or neutral tint or even better a high cri is much better served for an edc light. What I would change to make this a perfect edc light:
Imo make this 1-2" shorter, get rid of the 3k mode and replace it with 1000-1500 turbo with a longer run time (2-5 min before step down) and reduce the 1k to 500-750 lumens (with no step down). This way you have nice evenly spaced out output for different "edc" tasks (15/65/200/750/1500). Change emitter color temp to a warm or at least neutral tint. Keep the quick access to turbo and strobe and these changes would make this the absolute perfect edc light in this form factor. I could easily see this as Nitecore's #1 selling flashlight.
Down to preference, I prefer warmer tints but many makers ignore them. The side is more EDC than I thought because it is slim, guess everyone has their own idea of what EDC means
Request for a detail comparison video on RovyVon Angel Eyes E90 Flat EDC Flashlight vs Nitecore EDC29 flashlight models.
I have an EDC29 coming in soon, but I don't hear from RovyVon these days. I'm only doing occasional videos on products of this type.
This looked like a perfect EDC to me at first, then I saw that it was 6500k only, very disappointing for a higher end light. But worse, at around £100 it is totally unacceptable for the battery to not be replaceable.
A lot use the cool white for more range/output. Prices well everything is expensive these days not that this is an excuse. I'd prefer access to the battery, but then I would on phones too - seems this is the way they are heading
I bought one, already had the tip se. Maybe it’s just lack familiarity, but to me the controls are not intuitive. I am constantly putting into lock when I just want to turn it off.
Strange I found it easy enough one full press On/Off, half press change levels. You have to double press/hold to lock
... Surefire stiletto inspired 😎
There are similarities, though the Surefire is even more expensive
The drawback they need to address to this and their EDC33 are the non removable batteries, both lights are almost perfect minus the battery being a fixed one. It's a huge problem since batteries degrade overtime.
Yes this is a problem for me, the newer EDC range has built in cells EDC33 and EDC35 are two newer ones. I didn't get sent review samples, wasn't asked (no idea on that why). Frankly I am against built in batteries on these products, even this one is an issue too. Reason is they have high power output and the cells take a big hit on drain/wear. I know people who hit turbo a lot, who wear out cells in 6-12 months, and by that I mean substantially reduced run times, or it won't even hit Turbo eventually.
I'm doing less reviews on these items mostly because I'm just far less interested in the way the industry is going with this built in battery nonsense. It's not in the interests of buyers, as they have disposable products, more e-waste, and I just wouldn't buy a torch where you can't change the battery. It's not a problem on the tiny keyring ones, I get that. But I have no idea why anyone would buy a larger torch with a limited lifespan, with a built in battery. We also have Olight's proprietary cell nonsense too, I completely lost interest in that company and their products. Almost all their models use custom cells. Incredibly annoying
If we use it for about 1-2 hours without turning off the lights, is there a problem?
There is no problem, but of course the power level drops at the higher settings due to heat
Excellent torch! Quite interested. Do you know when and where commercially available? Not getting any hits at this time .. 🤔🔦👍
They did a crowdfunding campaign on kickstarter and a few other platforms, but I was told it will be officially released next week. Hence it's a preview v a review, as I'm not 100% sure on the price and things like that. This should be the same as the retail release.
Amazing collection 😱🔥
Didn't realize there were that many square fl. I know most of them, and have some, but just didn't realize it's that many. Which is ur fave? That wt16r looks interesting..
I've not used the WT16R
Great review as always. Are the buttons a positive CLICK or the annoying ones where I have to hold them down for a fraction of a second too long? (Such as with the TIP and TUP I currently use)
The click is easily felt, the second switch is 2 stages I find it easy enough to feel, perhaps less so with gloves.
Some people reported switch issues, but I found it fine on this one
Nice flashlight. Funny how you British have to put a strobe light warning up. Never seen anyone else do this. What would happen if you didn't?
Any yet someone still complained and messaged me they gave it a thumbs down due to the strobe being shown!
Can't win either way
Great review! Just received mine in the post today, and the first thing I noticed, is the second LED (on the left side when facing up) doesn't light up at all under any mode. Seems a waste to build the chassis with two LEDs, and only use 1 of them for all the various modes, including Turbo.
Both LEDs light up or they should do, if they don't they you have a faulty one
Your item is faulty both leds should work in all modes
i got their discontinued SRT9 The Lumintop EDC18 is better than the EDC27 because the 2800 lumen turbo mode can stay on a lot longer
Lumintop don't send review items in, so I have no way to judge them - and to be honest I'm not overly excited by what I see from many makers these days. This is an interesting concept, with some more refinement/variations it might be even better.
@MrBazReviews go buy one. they are not overpriced like surefire and it doesnt turn on in your pocket like the EDC27
@@zillsburyy1 I've bought Nitecore and Jetbeam products myself, but after 100's of videos I'm not sure I'd buy a Lumintop if they don't supply review samples (why won't they?). The only time I got some was via a third party seller. I feel the same way about Olight, they can't handle any criticism, so they don't supply products. I sold all my Olight products some time ago. I just wouldn't touch the brand.

Q: 1000 and 3000 lumes are bright white. But 15, 65, and 200 are greenish tint. Is your copy the same? Thanks.

Interesting light. I see this as a no-brainer for the armed citizen or plains clothes police or security work. Primarily a tactical/defensive light with enough functionality to serve as general purpose. Wear a suit and tie and carry a gun? This is your light. I'm tempted.
The shape is the main thing, I think that appeals. On the downside, no easy way to replace the battery - have to send it back for a new one. I like the concept though
it seems like all chinese products from scooters to vacuums to flashlights have that crappy port cover with nothing but a flimsy rubber cap friction fitted into place. They need to spend some serious R&D on this small detail to make their products better.
I've seen worse covers, but some better one too. The last JetBeam had a screw on head covering the port, but obviously that wouldn't work here. A sliding one maybe if it's weather sealed
I likes it, bit I cannot work out how to attach the lanyard.

just curious... is there any green tint? knowing my experiences with sst40s it's always 50/50
The White balance is manually set, it is not on Auto. So what you see is pretty close to the real beam.
There are always some tints/shifts on these LEDs and that varies on power levels too. It's not overly green from what I see, but it is of course pretty cool white

I've not used the Olight so cannot say. Olight don't send products because they don't like criticism in any way, only marketing and sales.
Suprised nobody’s mentioned the similarities to the Olight Arkfeld
The shape is similar, but there are many differences. The Olight switch position, smaller battery, output.
I have to be honest the Arkfeld doesn't seem to be grapping much attention. Other than the usual Olight advertising UA-cam channels, they don't seem to be getting people whipped up in a frenzy over it. Hey guys have a question if you have the EDC27 do you hear a rattle in it. When I move mine is seems something is loose.
I've heard reports of a rattle on some of them and some people are having a power switch problem. I think Nitecore are investigating some problems.
When you say turbo is about 10 secs is that it then it’s flat or it only allows you 10 sec bursts to save power?
It's heat it drops the power otherwise it would get crazy hot
What is the approximate lifespan one could expect from this model?
Depends a lot on how you use it. The warranty is 2 years, if you use Turbo a lot that hits the battery much harder than normal usage. The battery should last for years, but as I said how you use it makes a big difference
I've had one for orob 6 months and have barely even used turbo mine stays on 200 lumens that's plenty when it's dark
Some makers like Streamlight don't even do really high power outputs on their models! Yes a few hundred is enough for many uses
No firefly mode :(
No would have been nice to have that
Still cant figure out how tf to install the lanyard
Use the small string part to pull it through, then loop it over it itself
How long does the strobe run before it stops? And is it the strobe 3000 lumens? Thanks.
They have no run time for strobe, it is 3000lm. I would love to test it but I can't bring myself to hold the strobe in for hours!
I suspect it will drop down as the heat builds up even in strobe mode.

There's some generic Chinese torches selling on Amazon and ebay with crazy claims for under £30 Apparently they can output 5,000 lumens
I've seen them, many say even higher and obviously the claims are fantasy! People seem to buy them, numbers work for marketing.
Is the beam as floody as with the P20iX'?
Candela is similar it's not a focus beam like some tactical models

Stronger what range or power? Look beyond lumens at the body design and type of beam you want that is my advice.
For example the P23i (not used it but...) long range model, the E4K is a wide beam quite different use.

You have to send it back to Nitecore for a battery charge, outside of warranty. Unless you can get one from them. I've not asked them but I could.

Could you please confirm that you can charge it via usb-c to usbc-c cable? I find that with a lot of Chinese devices that are usb-c charging cable, it's only from a USB-a to usbc-c.
It does charge using a C to C cable as well as an A to C both work
@@MrBazReviews thank you
How about a picture attached to your belt?
@@dwhite832003 I don't wear belts lol
@@MrBazReviews just a picture of jeans from behind will do then.
This wont last long. Built in battery make no sense to me. Its just a throwaway when battery performance declines. A novelty at best IMHO.
It's up to people to decide, I keep telling makers to have removable batteries, but nobody takes any notice! Look at phones too
The case isn’t stainless, but aluminum.
Quite a lazy take, overall.
2 points to make.
It takes many hours to create a video like this, quite a lot of work. Have some respect for people who do give enough care to make these videos
You are entirely wrong, it is not aluminium it's stainless steel
flashlight.nitecore.com/product/edc27
"High strength stainless steel with PVD coating
When you engage with a video you also improve it's performance, so thanks for that ;-)
Who is lazy me or you? lol
Idiots on ebay trying to charge $400 bucks
I see that they put the price up, to crazy levels. I really doubt anyone would be dumb enough to pay that.
Non-replaceable battery makes it a throwaway… 👎
It would be better to have user access to the battery no question
Exactly how long does it last on the highest lumen setting?
4:22
Temperature varies 12 seconds ish
