oof those growls sound painful on this program Love this, it hurts my soul as a saxophonist and sounds somewhat like a future Super Smash Bros theme but I love it.
I almost got it together, just struggling with the actaved part, will probably try to record and upload it if possible once i have, but cant promisse anything because i dont have the gear right now and never uploaded anything, but its so fun to play, anyone playing baritone out there, play it
Definitely a nice piece! Although I’m not quite there to play it at full tempo, it‘s so much fun play it. Some things that bother me a bit is: Why didn’t you just use a Key, then you wouldn’t have to write all these flats and it’s easier to read. Second one is kinda my fault but if someone is unable to do it at that tempo he has to take extra breaths to make it through alive (currently at like 70% of the speed on the fast parts with all these octaves etc). Yeah already subbed you months ago and I’m glad you made something for solo baritone :D Cheers Edit: 1:52 if you want it to be the same note, why don’t you write the same note?
I would make a key for it but, when writing and playing, at least for me, I read better with keyless music. Often, I can forget what key were in and miss a note. On top of that, it’s true to the music because it’s not necessarily tonal. But I totally see what you’re saying, and if you ever wanted a PDF of it, I’d include a key signature if you wanted. As for breathing, take what you need to play it that makes musical sense. The phrases are long and hard. When I played this for my class, I had to take an extra breath here and there. As long as it sounds good, it doesn’t bother me. And 1:52 is a mistake; the correct notes are E D# and then C# (or Fb Eb C# like the next measure). I need to go through and clean it up still. Thank you for your comment! Stuff like this helps me improve so much, so I really appreciate it.
Joshua Haugen hey I saw your about section on your channel and I saw that you majored in performance for bari. That's something I'm interested in and I was wondering if I could ask you some questions
the section you have that is written 8va should just be written the octave up, we know how to read those notes and it only barely goes altissimo. Cool piece
I wanna play this for solo and ensemble but idk if the judges who are classical kinds will like it.. It's just really cool and different except the growl made me cringe so hard my toes curled..
timjbbc When it’s in front of a note, it’s that note two 1/2 steps lower, or one whole tone lower. So, with the A Double Flat, it’d actually be just a G.
@@maxwellmckinley637 im sure Joshua is. Leo is pretty good player but Im spoiled by monster bari. Players classical and jazz . I am an aural saxophone listener. Id like to hear more Joshua on other material . I will probably really enjoy it.
I have been asked variations of this question a few times, and it’s a fair question to answer: 1. Key signatures are largely archaic, and work more to hinder performance than clarify the music for performers. Instead of having to remember and apply a signature to whole sections of music, a performer can look measure to measure (or, as I can prefer, just individual notes). This aids in the learning process and I would argue ensures less mistakes are accidentally internalized. Even when I write tonal music, I do not use key signatures. 2. This isn’t in a key really. It is based around C but the material is largely octatonic which doesn’t have a standard key sig. I could have notated this piece with sharps, which might have been easier to read in retrospect, but I chose accidental consistency throughout the score for this work. When I wrote it too, I was the only one I was thinking would play it, and I didn’t mind too much reading from a part like this.
Howdy y’all! If you wanna see me perform this, here’s the link: ua-cam.com/video/XcjjddAbHcY/v-deo.html
doing this is basically the ultimate tongue work out
I cut my tongue doing this
I’m fine now but just
oof those growls sound painful on this program
Love this, it hurts my soul as a saxophonist and sounds somewhat like a future Super Smash Bros theme but I love it.
This is so metal
Listing and watching this makes me feel like a beginner Bari sax player
Also this piece is just a huge kick in the gut to bari players
^^^
As a bari player, I want to know why you hate me.
That time sig switching section? Kill me now. I’m going to learn to play this.

I'm just a violinist who barely started playing clarinet but this makes me feel like I need a bari right away
AMAZING piece
This is still so metal
OMG I DID IT!!
the first 5 measures...
Amazing. As a 6th grade beginner alto sax player, this makes me want to play baritone sax even more.
🙂
hate to be the one to tell you this, this song is literally near impossible to play
Maybe you should try it I'm in 8th grade and I know 7 instruments and stared saxophone this year and now I'm on bari sax you can do it
@@etss4118 It's a bit late for that, as I'm now first chair bari sax in the top band!
@@rocky216 definitely not lmao. You are trippin
I have listened to this atleast 50 times in the past 2 days. its amazing
So glad you enjoy!
this is phenomenal. i’d love to play this. hopefully it can get published one day
The high to low notes are insane
You successfully captured the essence of a Bari sax
When you're a Dream Theater fan but u play the baritone sax
DUDE THAT SOUNDS SO GOOD WHAT THE HELL
I'm trying to take this to a contest next year (my senior year) this will be fun
Bro really said “I am the band” and played both melody and accompaniment
Bruh, this sounds so good
This is really nice! I like all of your compositions a lot. You have earned a sub.
Thank you so much!
Bari player, omg why. This is my definition of death... 💀💔
Ok but how is this even possible to play omg
Gonna learn this, would’ve amazing with drums also
Yeah like everyone else is saying as Bari are you trying to kill me🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️ I want to die 😬😬🙈

Dude, somebody should play that in a talent show!
Dude slaps, how much
I dont even play bari sax and i love this
im gonna learn this by the time i graduate
Sounds like a boss fight
I like this a lot
i love this new billie eyelash song
I havent played bari in 5 years and this makes me want to buy a bari learn this only to come back and say Bro,What the fuck
One thing about it - if you played this tonguing ditty on the high school stage, you would not have a problem getting a date for the prom.
Sounds like a menacing wario land track
Quite a Challenging Exercise !
Really digging the 7/8, 6/8 part at 79.
FILTH! I love it!!!
Bari player told me when I sent it to him “ yes I know the existence of this song
, and I hate it”😂
After playing through dis my throat is really sore n my lips hurt but it’s an amazing piece
Sounds so good but feels so painful
Us bari players need to stick together.
Yessir we da best out of all nine saxophones
Well, shit
Now I have to learn this
i now have a goal to play this at my senior solo night
As a bari player, holy fuck do I wanna learn this so badly
Antoine Perry If you ever want the sheet music, shoot me an e-mail at jzonda415@gmail.com!
leo p would go crazy if he did tried this
Can you make a trumpet version? This is awesome!
Measures 14-20 read like a marcel mule etude
hey Josh love your music can you make a crazy alto solo next the altos in your music barely gets attention thx
I'd be happy to! :)
alto and bari are in the same key (Eb) so technically you could still play this
Derek zzstu Huff just play a normal a then
@Derek zzstu Huff some Altos actually have low A keys
the piece wouldnt sound nearly as good on an alto, i tried it and it just doesnt have the right sound
this sounds like a pokemon battle theme-

What is the toungeing technique called?
Tremolo?
Nice job using the tremolo for growl xD
Going to learn this for the fun of it. Might sound like trash but eh. It’s a fun piece
1:24 How?
If you're interested in a version for Alto (or any other saxophone), a version is now available: ua-cam.com/video/8CCSE1-V79I/v-deo.html
Would it be okay if I performed this at one of my high school band concerts?
Absolutely! If you need the sheet music, just email me: haugenj2@msu.edu
@@jzonda415 That's awesome thank you! Now that you're here, I have a question. Have you ever thought about drumset playing along too?
I think that would be fascinating to hear, I love it!
Can I please get a PDF of this? Or can I go on musescore and print it out from there?
Luke Faulkner Absolutely! You can e-mail me at jzonda415@gmail.com if Musescore isn’t working for you. I’d be happy to though!
I switched from Bari sax to oboe, I don’t know why but now I really miss playing Bari...
Oboe is one instrument I have always wanted to learn just never have..
As the kids say, this beat fucking slaps
2:02-2:07 Sounds like the very first notes of the Lord of the Rings ^_^
As a tenor player the only part I can play is the first bit 😂
you know about key signatures?
Only one bari i think that's hard to believe
What does the "n" at the end mean?
Blocky_Games It stands for “Niente”. It means to fade to essentially nothing, or barely a whisper.
Oh, ok. Good luck doing that on the low A xD
Blocky_Games True, haha. But, as it’s written, it’s slap tongued, so it’s not too bad. Even on a Low A, I’ve found you can make that very soft.
Ahh, I forgot about about the slap tounging. That should make it a lot easier
Interesting.
so there is a repeat sign at measure 33, where is the end of it supposed to be?
Julianne Friesen Just a mistake from an earlier version of this piece. I plan on revisiting this work soon and revising it and cleaning it up.
Can you transpose this for bass clarinet please?
That would actually be kinda cool tbh I play both Bass and Berri and it would be kinda cool to hear it as a Bass tbh
How to do u switch from high e flat to low e flat so easy lmao?
that's easy in a computer; this is a sample, not a live barrie.
bro the switch from high to low in like 0.1 seconds 😅
everyone's complaining about the articulation but i want to know why there are so many double flats/ f flats 😐
You wrote this?!? Brilliant composition!
Ehhh if you think about it it’s kinda easy I learned this in under a week. It’s pretty easy you’re just making it hard
It sounds like something multiple instrument are meant to play but instead it’s just Bari sax
Got it first try
Has anyone successful played this score if so can I have a video
Kyle Omanson I played this my sophomore year when I wrote it. There’s a bad recording of it somewhere I’m sure.

I've seen harder. Leo P is the master at the bari sax.
I'm pretty sure this is just made for some fun.. not a competition to make a the hardest bari piece
You haven’t heard many good Bari players. Sonic tricks ( the same ones over and over) do not define a good saxophonist.
While I fucking love Leo and thank him as the reason I switched to bari, you should check out some Ronnie Cuber and Pepper Adams.
@@zangsax That isn't all he does. He really is a great saxophone player, you just don't like the type of music he plays.

Why does nobody who notates online know what a key sig is

Is this in concert pitch? If not, how do I turn it into concert pitch? I play bassoon and have no idea how transposing thingamajigs work.
