The fact that Leo can play 4 octave sax, dance, and still check in with the conductor is amazing. That requires a LOT of concentration. Amazing performance.
You can’t? A sax is already 3 octaves, adding one more is highschool level altissimo. Also he’s got more than 4 in him

The respect the two leads have for one another… Christian is already the most laid back dude on stage, but props to Leo for pulling back. He could’ve decimated this performance on his own and stole the show. I’ve heard stories of Leo playing and dancing damn near nonstop for a two hour show. Man is a musical machine.
Lol are you clueless??? Look who’s hugging in the bows and who’s left to stand alone like a lemon… Jules and Chris had zero time for Leo’s gimmicks. They just had to play along for the pay cheque
@@nat1baby
Well you’re entitled to your opinion.
@@nat1babyseems like a very personal take for 3 people you don't know lol. Why not just say you don't like leo?
The endurance to dance while playing comes with practice. For him, that was playing in the subway for years. He found that when he danced, he got more money, so he started dancing while playing. I can only dance for a few songs with my tuba before needing a break, but I don't consistently practice nor have I been dancing with my tuba for very long(maybe like 2 months).
The craziest part about this is Leo wasn’t actually even invited he just went on stage and nobody questioned it

Some people are the center of attention, not because they demand it, but quite simply deserve it. Leo P is one of those people.
The audio engineer on this concert deserves a medal.
So weird seeing so many people complaining about his style; people that don't realize that he got his start busking in NYC subway stations, where with people constantly on the go, you need more than just killer tunes to get their attention. He's cut his teeth on the underground circuit (LITERALLY UNDERGROUND). This man is one hell of a showman.
Xander Lovecraft cut his teeth?
Please.
Talk to the older black musicians about what they had to go through in order to play.
This young punk playing in a subway needs to learn what "paying dues" really means.
Dude, get over yourself. You don't get to shit on people who bust their asses off and succeed. Also, calling someone a punk isn't an insult. Try harder.
He played with Lucky Chops NYC. I loved to hear them play in the subways. Always drew a huge crowd, even by NYC subway standards. They traveled all over the US and Europe and Lucky Chops is still together today and Leo comes in for shows when he can. He is extremely talented and his performance is contagious. Ever been in New Orleans where music is celebrated with every ounce of your being? That's Leo and I love him for it.

I love how, while Leo is the guest here, he knows to step back and let the dude on the firebird trumpet kill it too.
Not a firebird trumpet...the firebird was an instrument designed by Maynard Ferguson and was a combination valve/slide trumpet
Actually, that one's called the site
Good performers know how to shine AND how to share the spotlight!
Fun Fact: The trumpet player is a VERY accomplished musician. His name is Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah (now goes by Chief Xian aTunde Adjuah). I’ve been a fan of his since 2006 and he is constantly pushing the envelope of what being an artist is. His music fully encapsulates the struggles of life and the love and loss that comes with it. He came up studying jazz, but has since moved the music in new directions. Great player and great writer. 🎺

I'm honestly surprised that actual flames didn't start spewing out of his saxophone, that was absolute f*cking fire
Honestly, same. Not because of the metaphor inherent in this being fire, but because that legitimately seems like something that he would try to figure out how to work into the performance.
He breathe the oxigen made for the flames to produce more notes
This could very well be the grandest display of sheer showmanship since Queen Live at Live Aid in '85. Putting aside the musical talent, which is exceptional, the sheer delight in the viewer that this chaos creates cannot be overstated.

the drummer is a machine honestly, brass is amazing to listen too but you have to think about how hard it is to keep perfect timing like this
did u notice that when drummer was solo we was so nervous that he drop the tempo xD than almost failed the final xD but yeah he is very good
Yeah especially when the tempo is “cocaine” 😂
Drummer: MARTIJN VINK from Metropole Orkest (Netherlands) ;)
Oldschool drummers (Krupa days) made their own tempo, and the band either carried on with them, or got lost. But the drummers usually were good enough that they'd bring the band all together in tightness.
Modern drummers have the advantage of having access to a "click track" in their ear (if they want it). Hence why some drummers can get such a "machine" rhythm going.
Although, I suspect very few jazz drummers ever need or use one.
is the drummer being a machine a good or bad thing? lol
I love how one of the older violinists nearest to the crowd keeps looking back at her sheet music and then Leo. Amazing
Just discovering Leo P. This guy is out to entertain the crowd. Just the sheer effort he's putting into this performance just jumps right out at you.
Everyone is raving about Leo, but damn is Christian Scott a good trumpet player!
He's been nominated for 5 Grammy Awards.
Hands down the best trumpet player under 50 in the world.
Yeah, but he doesn't dance.
But does he dance though
Unpopular opinion, and I'll be the first to admit it's petty. But the puffed cheeks bother me. That was something that was hammered into me when I picked up the sax at 9 years old. My dad played sax and would NEVER let me get away with puffing my cheeks out. Guy could blow, though. Just get the cheeks in!
If I can enjoy what I do as much as Leo P loves playing the bari sax, I'll then know I've chosen the right path in life.

Every now and then someone actually finds what they were born to do. A handful every generation that stumble upon the thing they can do that leaves an indelible mark on future generations. Leo is one of those generational talents. Somebody introduce him to Les Claypool.
Omg him and Claypool would be absolutely amazing 💯 I have been thinking the same thing!
Funny that that's what you see. I see an annoying twat.
That would be the BEST POSSIBLE VERSION of "utterly out of control!"
What he’s able to do with this instrument and mouthpiece is not easy at all. He’s making it talk!
Well put!
I think something that people fail to realize is the breath control needed to do the thing at 1:05. Listen to it and try to hear where he breathes in, but then look at the video. He is taking *very* frequent and deep breaths. The fact that someone can do that and not pass out is pretty amazing. That short breathing technique contributes a lot to this performance, really.
All that while bouncing all over the stage
I see your point as a saxophonist(though I think every musician can see this). The fact that he doesn't hyperventilate right than and there is a fucking miracle. I couldn't do it. Leo P is a Legend!
Idk, I am a tenor and all so I respect that dancing part I could never do but like
I am only a freshman and idk how low a works and all which I think he plays here idk but for me it is quite easy to take a breath between those notes, especially because he doesn't need to take deep breaths because that would be worse for him.
You see, when you take deeper breaths like that in between notes, your body needs you to inhale again for oxygen and most times if you have deep breaths there, you're going to end up with too much air and you will not be able to exhale properly which will affect his body and his head too much.
Not saying I am better, just wanted to point out a few facts I believe and I am up for a disproof
Edit: although it is entirely possible that the extra air would go to helping him move, considering that I never play while moving like that so I wouldn't know 0.0
Cocaine XD
As a 4 year saxophone player, no. That wouldn’t be that hard. And he’s probably been playing for at least 10 years.

There’s a rumor that due to a transportation issue, Leo P. missed most or all of the dress rehearsal so this really was hits first time out with this group. I never heard of Leo till I caught this. So impressed with him as a showman. That Bari is heavy, & he tosses it around like a toy. Mingus' Moanin is serious music, and he done the great one proud.
