Be Kind? Geez these guys are killing it! They should be kind to the rest of the guitar players because they are making the rest of us look bad! I have been working on learning the famous alto break and it sounded like the first soloist played something similar but not identical which is certainly the appropriate choice in the situation. But with such a talented bunch I was thinking that you could arrange it in 3 part harmony. There used to be a group called Supersax that played harmonized versions of Parkers solos. It would be tough to do on guitar but if anybody could pull it off it would be these cats and it would be fun to watch people's jaws drop!
I love A Night in Tunisia on guitar. It is nice to hear the different styles of each player. I particularly enjoyed the harmony parts which really emphasize the strong melody of this tune.
Quite an ensemble you've got here. All are excellent players. That fellow with the Gibson is my favourite. Such a chilled, classic and melodic style. A great video and arrangement too. Kudos.
The running bass really smooth and i really enjoy it, and when every guitarist play their solo part my lips keep on moving to feel their very best solo, what a great music...
great the 2nd the deep one in the B part. after the two really powerful and harmonic solos the climax with the two exchanging phrases till to the point of interleaving...great...very inspiring
Keep these coming Nick and my congratulations to you all . I enjoyed Alex Boulton’s playing up here in Napier on Sunday by the way. Another if your excellent students. John. R.
The guys are back and sounding great! Nick, just out of curiosity, approximately how long does it take from the time you present a song to them, until you decide to record their performance of it?? Again, just curious is all. They are a fantastic group of young musicians and I always look forward whatever it is they perform. It's a real treat. Hats off to all the members of the group and of course to you Nick.
Steve Douglas thanks man! This series of videos is the very first time the nzsm guitar ensemble has recorded (for a variety of reasons beyond my control). We worked on these tunes weekly for about a month prior to the recording. The guys put in a lot of work to get it together. I’m incredibly proud of them. Cheers Nick
Thanks Nick. I'm not surprised to learn of the time they put in. They're tight and playing, "A Night In Tunisia" with such confidence and fluidity is impressive indeed. Awesome.
I could listen to this arrangement all day!
Jim Miranda thanks so much.. glad you like it
