    The art tool kit palette and the peg one - can you use gouache in it? Have You?

    • @ampersandpaintspalettes9431
      @ampersandpaintspalettes9431  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Angela! Great question! I use watercolor more than I use gouache, but I've tended to have more success with gouache using it straight out of the tube rather than dried and rewet. So it depends how you use gouache. If you typically squeeze it into pans or a palette and then use them rewet, these would work fine. But they're not airtight, so they won't keep your paints wet. Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

    I'm curious how the wood takes the water when you mix the paints. Also, the pallet that contains the pains, that was lovely although my concern again is the water seeping through it.

    • @ampersandpaintspalettes9431
      @ampersandpaintspalettes9431  4 роки тому +3

      I wondered about that too. The ones featured in the video are both treated with oil to protect the wood. I haven’t had any issues, but I’ll update if I do!

      I've been making paints for my Iris and I've filled some wells numerous times and it is all holding up beautifully. We use maple which is a hardwood. I've been using mine steadily for nearly 1.5 years!

    Great review! This looks so fun. Do you think it would hold all colored pencils and maybe a sketch pad? How many would it hold? Thanks!

    • @ampersandpaintspalettes9431
      @ampersandpaintspalettes9431  4 роки тому +1

      Great question! I wish I had enough pencils to give you more information about how many you could put in it and have it close comfortably, but I’ll give you my best guess! You can fit about two dozen pencils comfortably in each of the outside pockets. Inside I’d guess you could comfortably fit about fifty. So you could pack in about a hundred pencils according to those estimations. The only thing I’d say is that the outside pockets may be less secure, so it depends on how you carry and use it whether that would work for you. If it was me I’d probably put a little sketchbook in one of the outside pockets (the Peg & Awl ones fit perfectly) and then use the inside pockets for pencils (and then sharpeners/erasers could go in the zippered pouch). If your sketchbook doesn’t fit in the pocket, you can bundle one on with the leather strap (that’s what I do when I’m using a larger hardcover book). Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!

    Hey this is a great review of what you've got in your Sendak. I was wondering if you could give an opinion of the palettes. If you could only have one, the Charlie or the P&A, which would you pick and why?

    • @ampersandpaintspalettes9431
      @ampersandpaintspalettes9431  4 роки тому +1

      They are both lovely. I think it depends on your own preferences. The wells in the Peg & Awl palette are larger, so you may prefer that one if you use larger brushes (maybe larger than a 6?) and don't mix colors very often (or don't mind using a separate mixing surface). Being larger, the wells hold more paint than the Charlie, so that may also be a factor for you. The big plus of the Charlie is that it has mixing surfaces in the palette. So I would say either one depending on brush size, mixing preferences, and how many/what size wells you want. I'd love to hear what you decide!

      @@ampersandpaintspalettes9431 After much thinking, I've decided to get the P&A one with my most favorite quote engraved on it. As much as I adore the looks of the Charlie palette (and I still may get one someday), the ultimate deciding factor was to support a US-based maker and since I'm buying a Sendak for my birthday, I thought I'd indulge in the palette that fits it perfectly.

      Hi, A G! Which ones are you interested in? The Microns are not refillable. I do think refillable fineliners exist, but I haven’t tried them (but would love to hear from others about these). The brush pen I used Platinum Carbon Black cartridges in (I don’t know if they’re supposed to technically fit, but they do). The fountain pen I fill with waterproof fountain pen ink. Happy to do a specific video on what you’re interested in. Thanks for the question!

      This is such a great tip, Kelcey-thanks for bringing these up! I actually bought them as soon as Poems About You released them, because they solved my dilemma perfectly! I highlighted them on my Instagram account but haven’t done a video here yet. Will have to do that soon! I love the plastic-free idea of the palette by itself, but I just wasn’t confident enough about color selection to ever fill it. The bioplastic custom pans are perfect until I figure it out. I’m so glad you mentioned it here for other folks!

    Do you think a standard metal 24 half pan palette would fit into this? They are maybe 3”x8”

    • @ampersandpaintspalettes9431
      @ampersandpaintspalettes9431  4 роки тому

      Hi Geslina! I tried this out for you, and it can work. The best place for a palette this size is one of the exterior large pockets (front or back). The palette sticks out about 1.5-1.75 inches. It can fit into the interior large pocket, but then the flap doesn't fold down all the way. It can still work, but it's a bit awkward. The smaller metal palettes are a better fit for the inside (the 12-18 half pan ones), but the larger ones can work! Thanks for watching! Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions.

    • @geslinam9703
      @geslinam9703 4 роки тому

      @@ampersandpaintspalettes9431 thanks so much! I think I’d rather get the smaller size palette, as you say. It would bug me if it was sticking out. These rolls are a little pricey, but they look sturdy and well made, and I love that you can fit so much into them, including a smaller size watercolor journal in the outside pockets. I wouldn’t have to carry anything extra, except maybe a bottle of water. Again, thanks for checking the palette fit for me. I appreciate it,
