Angie definitely had way more milage and left too soon. We never got to see her discover Den as Vicki's biological father or his demise. One of Walfords finest. Queen of the Vic.
Yea I would have loved for Anita to stay a bit longer and maybe come back at the same time Leslie returned. They were such a great combination on screen. Or maybe do a separate episode outside of the show where they reunited briefly.
One of the best written characters ever devised for Eastenders and performed to the hilt by Anita Dobson. Things were never the same on the square when she left never to return.
No it wouldn’t, her best days were in the 80’s, she was the magic of Eastenders in that particular time period from 85 to 88, It’s not really the same show anymore and most of the legends from Eastenders have either died in real life or have been killed off in the show.
I've been watching classic Eastenders on drama and saw this episode this morning. I loved Angie in it. I was born the exact date & year Eastenders aired, I'll never forget it 👌☺️
5:00 by far my favourite Den moment. Den ripping the letter speaks so much about his character. He both doesn’t care about Angie’s letter but at the same time he can’t read it. He refuses to let his ego get hurt by Angie moving on even though Den caused this and just thinks “good riddance” but he rips the letter knowing full well deep down he still loves her and that she’s completely over him. I think Dirty Den was the first TV character that was three dimensional the writing team were light years ahead of rival shows and Leslie Grantham was light years ahead with his acting and his style
Between 1985 and 1990, it was brilliant...the storylines were just so innovative, non PC and just superb...people overlook how brilliant the series was...
Ant John Rewatching it too. Astounded by the quality of it & it was full of humour. I don’t think I fully appreciated the brilliance of Angie & Den first time round. They are electric together.
I feel it was never the same after 1989. Even the Mitchells never filled the void left by the Watts, Lofty, Osmans etc. Also the suqare was smartened up in 1992 and lost its gritty inner city feel.
It was good in the 2000's it had some good realistic storyline like the Trevor Little mo one but it really started to go to the shitter in 2010 onwards.
She probably would’ve returned around the time Den. returned if Yorke wasn’t so recklessly-impatient. Louise Berridge is the only E.P. who seemed to really have any-much respect for the ’80s-cast but by the time she was aboard it were too late.
No, Eastenders had started to go downhill a lot by then, when I think of Angie I think 80’s and everything that went with it, that magic went away after she left, and then we had a new decade, it slowly started to get worse in the 90’s, and Eastenders a shit show now and a shadow of former self!
They are playing "Everytime You Go Away" by Paul Young. As many of you know it was written by Daryl Hall back around the 1970's. Also "Maneater" was used in a Special saluting Samantha Mitchell. I was blown away when I found out. I would love for Daryl to bring his Webseries to The UK and do Jam Sessions with Folks from the UK. Alot of talent is in that country.
A bit of an anticlimactic send off for such a great character. It's also a shame that she never returned at all. I would have loved to have seen her reaction Den returned in the 2000's.
This was the style for ’80s departures. They weren’t such a big deal back in the day, not in the sensationalised way we know today. It’s an approach that could’ve been put to good practice even now/more contemporarily for the likes of Fatboy. Turning Ronnie 2.0 into even-more of a sociopath for a road-boy who wasn’t that well-acted (he was brill. with Dot and okay with Mercy but that’s really it, still) wasn’t worth it. If he’s have just decided to dip to Hackney or Liverpool Ronnie wouldn’t have been monstrously-damaged to the point where the next E.P., however-misguidedly, thought the only way to make retributive amends with herself was to die and Fats would’ve probably eventually found out it weren’t Max. who killed Lucy.
Here's a fun fact. Every Time You Go Away was written by Daryl Hall of Hall & Oates who also flipped Houses in England. His Webseries has featured the Cream Of The Crop of Music.
Angie would’ve made a great comeback in 2001 with Sharon would have added so much to dens second stint and death. But no the producers killed her off because Anita Dobson wouldn’t return.
I don’t think it was right that Angie didn’t get the duff duff in this. Do you have when Sharon returns in 2002 for Angie’s funeral and when Lynne leaves in 2004?
She would’ve. Chrissie was very similar to Angie in many of her ways (and I feel like early Linda had Angie-like theatricism to her, only time-mediated; or at-least that’s how they wanted her to come-off as) and she was an enormous hit who’s still talked about to this day. I’d have said Angie was welcome back any day if she wasn’t dead.
Ahh yeah so glad it didn't take long! :) and wow really! You're lucky to be born in the late 80s I bet experiencing the full 90s was awesome! I only experienced half of the 90s as i was born in 93 :)
