      Not a problem dude. I'm Ole Skool. Remember the 60's & 70's? I got my license in 74'. The days of the Muscle Cars. Imagine a 454, 1969 All Wheel Drive Chevelle. No 4-wheel drive, except on select work trucks & then you had to get out in the elements & lock them in & drive accordingly, they were very touchy. No All-Wheel Drive. No Front-Wheel Drive, unless you had a high horse power El Dorado. Everybody was going up & down the road sideways. That's just the way it was. I was never late for school or work as a kid. We'd show up to school if they were closed, just to throw snow balls at the school.

      @@philsmidwestclassiccars150And another item to add to you're list, bias ply tires were the norm until they started filtering into the system in the later 1970's I believe but there were still lots of vehicles and certainly the heavier pickups that still used bias tires for some years yet. Driving on ice with non studded bias course type grip tires without excess weight in the back of the pickup was a challenge and again two wheel drive pickups were by far the norm back then. In the last number of years where I am ( Alberta ), dealerships will NOT bring in any two wheel drive pickups unless it was some special customer order as they would never be able to sell it to the general public.

    It amazes me living in Colorado for 24 yrs any of these people are actually on the road. They forecast this storm for days and day and here the cream of the crop driving around like “I didn’t think it was going to snow”. We left to our mountain destination as soon as it began to rain with 4WD and Blizzacks on each vehicle. Unreal.

We didn't get much out of it. More rain than snow. Been a rainy winter here. I mean we've had our share of snow, but most of the big storms the predicted were kind of busts in the end.

      I love when people blame it on the out of towners, or new folks.
      No matter WHERE YOU GO, you'll find these people. I'm willing to bet most of the videos we put out, they're full of long-time locals getting stuck on the same hills.
      It is very simple, people who don't maintain their tires get stuck on these hills, or they drive the wrong kind of vehicle and choose to drive up a bad hill right after a heavy band of snow and right before the plows can get to it.
      Just because you've lived somewhere and grew up with the road conditions, doesn't make you used to it or immune. And even if you are, you can still get stuck like these folks.

    here's a tip. Never tie something to a car that isn't meant for towing and get a "running start". Don't do it with anything made for towing either. That's not going to work out well for you. You drive slowly to get it taunt then you start adding power slowly.

    • @Cowicide
      @Cowicide 3 місяці тому +1

      @@Suplyndmnd Kinetic rope is literally meant to do this as long as the recovery points are used properly and the rope is rated for the load. Obviously, the car would have someone giving it acceleration while doing it instead of just trying to pull an empty vehicle.
      However, pulling a kinetic rope in that manner is exactly what they are made for and it's used that way every day by people that know what they're doing. The guy in the video obviously wouldn't know what he's doing with any type of rope kinetic or otherwise, much less a tow strap.

    There is nothing remotely “historic” about this little storm. I lived in the Black Forest north of Colorado Springs for 18 years. We had storms that dropped a full 48” of snow in one storm; the only things moving were vehicles from Ft. Carson on rescue missions. This here is a run of the mill storm and most of the people having trouble moving in it are just completely unaware, unprepared, unfamiliar with snow driving. Just more “disaster” reporting to ramp up clicks. Pitiful.

    Weather like this can be navigated with proper snow tires, proper snow chains on your tires, adequate vehicle ground clearance and a proper brain engaged. With storms like this stay home and watch videos on how to drive in these type of winter condition and what it takes to navigate.
    It is not like winter storms never happened before and they will happen again, if you live to see them.

    I lived in Colorado Springs in 1997 thru 1999, sure do miss it. From locals learned that typically the winter storms hit the western slopes of Pike's Peak, sort bounce up and fall beyond Colorado Springs. So all the heavy snow falls to the east of the city, burying prairie towns. There were pictures on the local news of snow drifts covering the second floor of a motel! But back in the city, it was no more than 6 inches and lots of slushy icy conditions. I've experience with that sort of thing so I got into my little Toyota Tercel SR5 wagon with push-button 4WD and tooled around getting cars unstuck on the city streets. Just take tire pressures down, keep it in 4WD, use the light duty tow hitch and an old length of retired Mountain Rescue rope. Couple of shovels too. Had a lot of fun seeing the amazed look on people's faces when a little car like that Toyota could help full size sedans and pickups get going again.

I recommend either Blizzacks (running those on my Jeep Grand Cherokee 4XE now) or Michelin Ice-X2 snowies. Don’t buy the X-Ice3 tires unless you drive a minivan or a Buick marquis. X-Ice 3s are for people who value comfortable ride over “road feel”, and X-Ice2s are for people who actually like to drive. The difference that snow tires will make for anyone is remarkable.

    • @philsmidwestclassiccars150

      The people of California who moved to Colorado are going to band together, out number the regulars, & are going to force the vehicles that maneuver through these blizzards out of service because of their emissions. The only thing Colorado has going for it is their freedom to smoke dope. So now you have all these high idiots aimlessly wondering around out in a massive blizzard, laughing, while trying to chase, catch, & count snow flakes. I'm on my way....

    Yup those "All Weather" tires just don't have the tread and and engineering that snow tires do, for driving on roads this packed with snow and ice. Then there are also snow chains for tires for the Winter months, that should be in the trunk of the car .Of course you have to have learned how to put them safely on the tires of your vehicle. Because you have 4X4 or all wheel drive, also means that the forces of the Physics of Friction and Inertia still apply to moving that vehicle safely about the road.
    Personally I stay off the roads and sidewalks on days when storms unleash the winds and waters their clouds may hold. You can too easily become stranded with no place to go for hours if not days on end. If you can't safely get out the door to buy something you may need, chances are good there will be no delivery services in your are either.

    If the accumulation is wet & heavy it's a hole different thing driving on wet heavy snow , dry flaky snow is easy to drive on as long as there is no ice underneath the snow pac.

    • @philsmidwestclassiccars150
      @philsmidwestclassiccars150 3 місяці тому

      I bargain to differ with you there. 1/10th of an inch of dry, flaky snow can turn your highway into an ice skating rink.

      @@philsmidwestclassiccars150 I used to live in florissant Colorado for more than 17 years & I never spun out on hwy 24 or I 25 driving on dry flaky snow .
      The snow we get out here in the Pacific North West is wet heavy snow & it's a hole different situation driving on it .
      what makes the difference is the tires one uses to traverse these conditions blizzak tires are one of the best ,
      Michelin cross climate 2 are another really good all season tire .
      Although blizzak are a winter tire.
      I drove the roads in Colorado pretty much all over the state for the time I lived there & like I said I never had issues with driving in inclimate weather.
      The fact that some of the drivers in Colorado have absolutely no business at all driving in icy conditions.
      one should respect the dangers of traversing icy road conditions, panic is what causes problems when one is driving on icy roads in a storm / blizzard.

      Are you serious?

    • @rocks-if6uh
      @rocks-if6uh 3 місяці тому

      @@seniormanyan3314 actually i was being serious. Depending on the capabilities of driver behind the wheel in control of a vehicle. But let's just start with some common sense as rule number 1. #2 would be understanding the capabilities of the equipment being operated in all weather conditions and on public roadways. Now comes the hard part :you are not the only person on the road so there are gonna be obstacles to contend with and chances are those obstacles have never driven a fully loaded semi and trailer nor have they ever tried qualifying for Daytona 500 in a nascar or even drafted in a pack of cars at 170 mph inches apart take it one step farther I bet the obstacle also has never driven a 1970 Mopar to high school in the rain or snow or even to a keg party out in the mountains on un maintained dirt roads at night with no headlights on. So obstacles have no life experience in real world scenarios and I would even say chances are they can't change a spare tire by them selfs on a hot friday afternoon summer day on interstate 25 /i-25 with rush hour traffic just flying by you. Point being some people don't have the true understanding of what they actually are doing when they try to do what ever it is that brought them to drive in conditions like what we have in this video. Some people such as myself have a bit more knowledge of the do and don't do area when it comes to driving normal in the conditions and we have the experience in the fast pace of hurry up and get there safely as some of us are trained professionals that have to get the mission accomplished and return to home base with no damage or having to be rescued. And sometimes I just like to push the limits of man and machine to keep my skills at peak performance.
