Scott those chairs are beautiful and you did a wonderful job cleaning them up. Kudos to your mother for raising a man who can clean and disinfect so well! I love it when you geek out and show us photos and magazine advertisements from the appropriate era. Nice! I also enjoyed seeing the restaurant ware but was surprised that you didn’t flip the plate over to show the maker. 😉 Once again thanks for sharing experience and knowledge.
You did a great job on the chairs. When you put on gloves put a little corn starch or baby powder inside the gloves and they will come off a lot easier.
I'm just so surprised the little blue caps on the bottom of the chairs have weathered time so well. They would split and then break off. These chairs must not have been used very much. Really lovely.
Keep on geeking out, love learning it, including the architectural bits! and oh oh oh those chairs, took my breath-away and you did a fantastic job teaching us how to clean them up if we ever get that lucky to find some. Smooches to Salem!
I think $350.00 would be a bargain, mainly because of the color and of course the condition. I love how you love old things and are able to restore them perfectly. You have so much variety in the videos you do and I always learn something as well as being entertained. Great job on everything⭐️❤️
I love these chairs. Unfortunately, I live in Canada and, with the shipping and everything, I simply do not have the means to buy them. About your gloves, next time, put a little talcum or baby powder inside of them, it will be easier to pull them off. I guess you already know about that old trick. I have to tell you that it was so funny the way you reacted while trying to remove the glove, you really did crack me up.
Hi Scott, I also have a set of old chairs that I replaced the cardboard bottoms on.I removed the one in the best condition and used it as a template. I bought heavy duty black poster board that was similar in thickness to the original bottoms. Then I just traced the original as my pattern, cut them out and stapled them on the chairs. 😀
As an auctioneer once said,” you could drive 100 miles and not find another one “. Price your chairs accordingly especially since you have thoroughly cleaned them. Beautiful find. Thanks for sharing.
I was really afraid those were repops until you showed all the old grime. It's astonishing that plastic covering would be in such great condition after so many years.
Can I give you a tip? If you want to keep vinyl nice and supple and free from cracking, I use ivory bar soap. Wash the chairs with a cloth with ivory bar soap on it. Do not rinse, just let dry. I had vinyl chairs for years from 1971, and they are still in great shape. My daughter has them now.
Your attention to detail is sublime. Perfection. Saw a platter from the Continental in a thrift store in Albany New York two years ago. How funny. I love RW, just love it!
Excellent video! I love the look back at catalogue pictures for reference, and that kitchen you showed at 14:50 wooo! That was fancy! I also just noticed all of the chairs have cute matching little blue scoot - boots (anti skid rubber stoppers) on bottom. Such a wonderful touch.
Hi Scott, you did fabulous job on restoring the chairs. I am going to take your advice and gently use steel wool on a couple of chairs that have a bit of rust on the chrome legs. My father had bought a red mother of pearl table and chairs set in the mid 50’s when he was a bachelor. We kept and used them until the mid 70’s, then he gave them to my Auntie Julia’s family who just moved to Staten Island
What a good restoration job you did on the chairs they turned out nice, now i wont be afraid to clean up chrome on my next project, thank you for the info on that.I like your how to videos and i really like the restraunt ware plate.
I found that on a textured vinyl upholstery a microfiber cloth with a velour texture worked very well. However you still need a cleaning liquid to shift old grease. I like a German metal polish reccomended by vintage car guys, Autosol.
So glad I found you Sir Scott! You did an excellent job on those chairs. Yes its mother of pearl. Even the caps on the legs match! Are they original? Newer ones would crack n break. Thanks for the history on how to date chrome pieces and your preferred cleaning methods.
Our family had a red “Mother of Pearl” kitchen set in the 1950’s...and I sat on a chrome booster stool, in red, with the pull down steps....I can still remember it all...😊🐝..Our set wasn’t as fancy as the one you found though..
Gorgeous, gorgeous chairs!!! Yrs ago, someone told me to lightly coat the chrome with plain Vaseline to deter pitting. Ever hear that tip? Well made new chairs today would cost $100 so I really think u could ask same for each of those! Great find, love love love em!
No I've not heard of that but I don't think it sounds like the best idea. Even a light coating of Vaseline would invite dust and dirt to cling to the chrome and over time I'd imaging a rather nasty coating of "yuck" would accumulate on the legs. Interestingly enough, there was surface oxidation on the chrome legs of the chairs but absolutely no pitting. Perhaps pitting is the result of a damp basement and maybe these chairs spent their lives in a warm yet dirty kitchen. I think you are correct in that new reproductions would cost over $100 per chair and they would lack the craftsmanship and uniqueness of the old ones. Thanks for watching.
I would love a history lesson! That wall, behind you, is gorgeous! I wonder who owned this set? Learning about average Americans, back then, is so cool!
My grandma had a green and cream set until she went into a nursing home in her late 80s. She lived to 99 3/4. There were 6 siblings and I had so many cousins. I was born in 1949. We were often there to eat together for holidays. She had a really big table, it sat 8 easily and 6 matchimg chairs. Much bigger than most I see. It may have had an extension but I am not sure. It was always large with the 6 chairs around it. Then card tables were set up in the living room too. Sometines we ate in shifts with the kids last of course. It held up well all those years. I was not interested at all in "old" things at that time so not sure what happened to it. My aunt Hildegard was a German war bride and a perfect house keeper. She had a MCM fancy living room set with all the mirrors and lamps looking like a showroom. It looked brand new forever. They had a den with more current furniture but that living room stayed the same. I have thought what is would be worth now. My mom just passed at 90, she was the last. You bring back the memories, Thanks.
Just bought that Pyrex bowl from you. Can't wait to add it to my collection. And yes I will use it and not just collect it. I will have to get some silicone whisks to use in it to keep it looking great! It is my birthday present to myself! LOL The chairs look absolutely fantastic.
Totally awesome chairs. That was a great price you paid. I can tell you enjoy the history of everything you get. You put alot of heart in it. Just the cleaning you did was alot of work and effort. Even if you do not keep them I know you take pride in restoring them. I hope whomever buys them keeps them beautiful as you did. Love your channel. What was the main course you ate?
Enjoy your meal! You are a master of restoration those chairs are looking brilliant. I would say 120$-150$ pro chair. Everyone still drinking coca cola in US?
Scott my folks had an kitchen set that included a red and white enamel/metal kitchen table with slide in and out leaves. The chairs did not have 4 legs, but only 2 legs that came down and swept to the back in a curve. They made for great forbidden "rocking". What era would you think? I was born in the 40's, but I have the feeling the kitchen set predated my arrival? Any guesses?
The chairs were in such good shape I was wondering if they were actually old or if you got duped on a repro lol!! (Not that I *actually* thought you would be naive enough to be duped!! You are an expert.) But now that you showed us the bottoms yes I can see now that they are truly vintage!! What a great find!!
Thanks Angie. I don't call myself an expert but after over 30 years in the biz....I've learned how to spot the tell tale signs of "faked age" or reproductions. I'm going to talk a little bit about that in my next "This "N That" video so I hope you'll stay tuned. Thanks for watching!
Love the materials that the chair is made from, how many vinyls today can take a cleaning like you gave it????? Poly foam is a disappointment in many ways, it also leaks chemicals. Love the old add, just look at the stove. We used to have a similar stove. Do you have a degree in the Decorative Arts, or furniture???? Or is this just a personal passion? Thanks for sharing!!!😂😂😍😍😍😁😁😁😄😄😄😄😄
Well you know your subject well! My Grandma Semrau bought a green table in the 1930's or so, and l got it ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! The chairs were redone. But maybe l will find new chairs. But anyways Scott, thank you for Highlighting my comment. 🕰🕰🕰🕰🕰🕰🕰⏰🕰⏰🕰⌚⌚⏰⏰🕰🕰🕰⏰⏰⌚⌚⌚⌚⏰⏰🕰🕰⏰⌚⌚⌚⌚⌚⏰🕰🕰🕰⏰⏰⏰🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃
Great channel! New Subscriber! Don’t know if you have one, but an ozone generator can eliminate odors without wetting which may benefit your restorations.
I am watching you from California!! Love your videos!! I could take some of your work away from you by giving you a couple tips about cleaning those chairs and other kitchen items!! Try some stuff called “Lysol Kitchen Cleaner”!! A medium bristle toothbrush also will do a fast and easy job!! Try it!! 😁
Thanks for the tip. I use various types of "used " toothbrushes on smaller intricate items that required a gently cleaning and they work well. Using a toothbrush on these chairs would actually take more time because of the amount of surface that needed to be cleaned. Also, the amount of oxidation and corrosion on the legs required 0000 steal wool to completely restore and polish them. Toothbrushes work well on certain surfaces but the 70 years of "kitchen scum" needed something a bit more abrasive than a medium bristle toothbrush.
Those look like chromecraft I'd ask 100 per chair + 145 shipping. That's very reasonable looking at comps they go as high as 300 per chair which I think is too high imo but I mean there's probably rich ppl that would pay that. They are in mint condition. Maybe ask 2 per chair + take offers? Idk but I wouldn't go lower than 100 for sure.
Good morning Scott. Is bleach a safe way to clean those chairs? I’m sure you know what you’re doing but I would think they would not be good for the vinyl. The blue color is so pretty.
It was not pure bleach but rather a small amount of the total ingredients of the cleaner. As you know, even an tiny amount of bleach does smell and not something to get on your hands. Also, off camera, I gave them a good going over with a warm soapy damp cloth to remove any residue from the cleaner. You are correct there is no way I'd use pure bleach on the old covering. Thanks for asking and allowing to be elaborate a bit. I'm gonna miss those chairs!
My car is 12 years old and never been parked inside a garage since I live in the city. 🙂. Honestly the paint job means nothing to me! But fear not....no damage was done to the car or the chairs. Sweet of you to be concerned.
Absolutely love those chairs. Man they look fantastic! I would think $100 per chair is a bargain, but I'm no expert. Loving these videos Scott!

Scott, go ahead and geek out. I always enjoy when you do.
Always enjoy your history lessons. Also enjoy the beautiful old buildings, please don't stop we all enjoy!
Thank you.
Oh my goodness, put them up for auction my friend! I think you’ll get way, way more than $100 per chair!
Excellent video! Those chairs are awesome. Love when restaurants use restaurant ware.
Keep on geeking out, love learning it, including the architectural bits! and oh oh oh those chairs, took my breath-away and you did a fantastic job teaching us how to clean them up if we ever get that lucky to find some. Smooches to Salem!

Loved the video Scott!! I would not take a penny less than $400 for that set of chairs. They are amazing !!
I love these chairs. Unfortunately, I live in Canada and, with the shipping and everything, I simply do not have the means to buy them. Ps.. I love your geek outs.......
Love these videos where you pay such attention to detail and we all learn from you. Thank you.
Wow Scott! You really did a nice job on those gorgeous chairs! I wish you could keep them & then go on the hunt for a similar, if not matching, table!
Hi Scott,
I also have a set of old chairs that I replaced the cardboard bottoms on.I removed the one in the best condition and used it as a template. Love the sweeping back chrome legs! Swooooon!
So satisfying to see the past cleaned !!!
I was really afraid those were repops until you showed all the old grime. It's astonishing that plastic covering would be in such great condition after so many years.
This was wonderful !
Always happy to see young people learn and take interest in care and repair and skills of the past. Thank you.
They are fabulous!

Yeah....I love Ivory soap!
Love the chairs it would be great if you could find the table!!
Those brussel sprouts look delicious!! Im regretting not getting them last night at dinner...
Your attention to detail is sublime. Perfection. Saw a platter from the Continental in a thrift store in Albany New York two years ago. How funny. I love RW, just love it!
We had a vinyl/Formica set when I was a child. But nothing as gorgeous as those chairs.
I appreciate your how-to videos. Keep them coming!
That is an awesome job! Sweet!

Awesome! Make sure you use fine 0000 steel wool and be very gentle and test in one unseen spot. It should work like a charm!
Thanks for the info, Scott. Will do.
What a good restoration job you did on the chairs they turned out nice, now i wont be afraid to clean up chrome on my next project, thank you for the info on that.I like your how to videos and i really like the restraunt ware plate.
Sorry, I comment as I watch lol! But really great job Scott! You should be so proud of your hard work! Great find and perfect job cleaning them up!
Those are so cool! I just bought a mcm highboy off marketplace for $20!!! Think I'll hold on to it.

That's what I have only in the teal cracked Ice my 3vyear old uses the step stool too!
Did I tell you I have a hidden leaf, chrome table in my little apt? Yep, and boy those chairs would really look nice. It is a gray patten. Oh well.
Always enjoy your videos Scott. Chairs look great

I love that style of table and chairs. My mom had a beauty shop and had that style table and chairs in her back work room. Great memories!
they sure are pretty! :-)
How much was it to reattach your retinas????
You know me well.
Love the chairs, I would start at $500. You can always come down, I think $500 is still a great bargain for someone who wants them.

My mean brothers leand back in my Mom's chairs that's why she has different wooden chairs today. She has the table but that's it.
Cardboard between chrome n wood + vinyl sounds like it would prevent rubbing and squeaks

I am coming to this late but use rubbing alcohol for getting rid of smells on porous stuffing materials.
Backs of those chairs me of 1945 atomic era, jetsons looking style
♻️🍸♻️🍸♻️
How much did they end up going for? And was it local pickup or ship?
$400 local pick up.
Type in atomic era vintage kitchen chairs. Same swooping back leg
What is the name of that spray cleaner.
Oh shucks I forgot. Let me get back to you on that!
How much did you end up selling them for?
About $400
I think $375 would be a fair price. scowwwwwwt! You didn’t flip the plate! I know, I know you are a classy guy. But still.......
Flip what plate?
$100.00 per chair. No less!
Febreze
Yup, or maybe an application of dry baking soda and fresh air, lol.
LOVE those chairs, but I was cringing the whole time you had them on the hood of your car! Your paint! Cry.
My car is 12 years old and never been parked inside a garage since I live in the city. 🙂. Honestly the paint job means nothing to me! But fear not....no damage was done to the car or the chairs. Sweet of you to be concerned.
@@oldcuriosityshop265 Thank goodness!
Loved that part btw, use whatever is at hand....hood of the car, waever, sidewalk and falling leaves..yeah, that'll do..sunshine and air, u bet!! 👍
You should charge at LEAST $400!!!
Lol you are convinced it's bacon drippins.
You know … we don’t usually get to see HOW BUFF YOU ARE.
