    As a 40 year fan of Jimi I find this to be the best documentary series that I've come across. No frills, no bells & whistles or other unnecessary embellishments, just the facts - generally as stated by the participants themselves.
    The minutiae, mundanity, boredom, disappointments and occasional triumphs of constantly touring are conveyed simply and brilliantly.
    Thank you for putting together this permanent record of what is, in my opinion anyway, the greatest period in rock music.

      i absolutely love the series but must say that while i don't want to give michael jeffries credit for anything, opening for the monkees in 1967 is not the worst thing that could have been suggested. it didn't work out for various reasons and jimi moved on. i was 7 when jim croce died (not to equate jim with jimi) but imagine the chance to see the monkees (serious musicians or not) and hendrix at that age would have changed my life forever.

    • @ramsey6681
      @ramsey6681 Рік тому

      @@marcyfan-tz4wj To be fair, Jeffries' unscrupulousness actually paid off on that occasion! The furore caused by such an obvious mismatch of acts (I'd be surprised if much of it wasn't actively encouraged, or even created, by Jeffries) generated a lot of publicity. Coming off the back of his introduction at Monterey I imagine it sealed Jimi's 'sexual' image in the minds of the American public. And it's never bad for business to be seen as the outrageous Wild Man Of Rock!
      At the risk of sounding like a nerdy show-off (🤓😆), I actually got to see The Monkees in the UK on a reunion tour in the 80s.
      I have no idea how good they were live and in person in the 60s, but I can tell you that those gentlemen could most certainly play by then! Peter Tork playing a self-penned classical piece on a two-tiered organ is still ingrained in my memory nearly forty years later!

    • @marcyfan-tz4wj
      @marcyfan-tz4wj Рік тому

      go ahead and be a nerdy show-off! i was dumb enough to think they'd be around forever and never made an effort to see them. the idea that you wouldn't get to see "the wild man of rock" because your mother didn't approve of him and hendrix would only be around for 38 more months boggles the mind.@@ramsey6681

    That poor, poor man. He was a genius. Nobody understood that. Jimi was a genius. Everyone was out for a piece of him, and continued to pressure him for their part of the action. If I could today jump into a time machine, I would go back to the day he was with Monika taking photos and drinking tea. I would immediately inform Jimi that I had come from the future to save him and why. I would have taken him to his flat, collected a couple of his favorite guitars, and then taken him to somewhere like Scarborough on the coast. He would have remained there to relax and re-charge for at least six months, and I would have paid. When he re-emerged he would have been back to the real Jimi. Noel Redding was totally correct. That is what Jimi needed. Rest, good food, and the rebuilding of his body from the inside out free from drugs. That is what Jimi needed. Jimi needed taking care of. But instead all he got was the loss of true friends that were out to protect him, like Kathy Etchingham, and a surround of friends who were in the main hangers on and those who were out to exploit him and promote his drug habit. People who were only interested in themselves at the expense of Jimi. Poor Jimi. Poor, poor Jimi. It could have been so different.

    So great to hear the fine details of Jimi and the Experience's life.
    Real life instead of sensationalism.
    "The Monkees- we want the Monkees". Who is this "Jimi Hendrix" anyway? "Vulgar"!
    Peter Tork was the man! All of the Monkees were mad about Jimi and watched every set he played.
    Jimi just has the coolest and beautiful clothes. Psychedelic, retro, vintage, antique; great artistic taste.

    July 2nd at The whiskey is the 1st photo of Jimi using a Wah. Also the photo from the US Electric Ladyland cover was taken there. So that reel to reel from June '67 with Wah on it....? Paul Caruso was also in the Zappa album photo. The 1st photo of Jimi playing his 1st of 3 Flying Vs was opening for The Monkees. Also of note is at Monterey and with The Monkees are the only photos of Jimi wearing a headband until 1969.

    the monkees were better then Jimi. more great songs. putting down the monkees is putting down great music. They had producers, writers, musicians from the most successful circles. Jealousy about the monkeees glory is still heard. The kids , yeen girls especially, know what they like. they liked and were right the monkees blew Jimi off the stage. Jimi was for older people, more males, and still wears out after a few great songs.
