not only is haymitch suffering from the trauma of having won his hunger games but he’s also had to live with mentoring tribute after tribute and watching them all die, that definitely also took a toll on him
Also, the Capitol was not happy with how Haymitch won his games. He took advantage of the force field around the arena to kill the last remaining tribute and they didn't like that. So, they killed Haymitch's girlfriend and entire family.
For SURE! Haymitch won the 50th Hunger Games meaning that he has mentored 48 tributes all whom have died. Plus the other district 12 tribute from his year so thats 49 of his neighbors and friends. He has lost since his games
I love the fact that you noted that the metal bow and arrow wasn’t what she was used to and that’s why she missed with the first arrow, most reactors I’ve seen that haven’t read the books don’t pick up on that detail 🙈 And the score numbers are from 1 to 12, the same as the number of districts, so spot on Rob! I am so soo SO excited for your reactions and thoughts of these movies 😍
When this movie first came out I was not interested either. I thought it was a tween story. After I finally watch it I realized that it was very adult. Hunger Games became one of my favorite trilogy.
I’m not a person who reads books for a couple reasons but I did listen to all of the audiobooks and I have seen all of the movies. It’s not my favorite world in this sort of genre but I do like it a lot
I just also rewatched these with my daughter last week because she said ppl were saying life is becoming like that (read it on the internet) comparing the met gala to hunger games. Since she hadn't seen them we went ahead and watched them.
Jennifer Lawrence was very early in her career when she started these films, but they gave a huge kickstart to her career. I did find it funny they she couldn't bring herself to call Lenny by his first name as she was good friends with his daughter, Zoe Kravitz, after staring with her in X-Men: First Class. She could only call him Mr Kravitz :D
I was in my dorm in Uni and my Mom called me 1am, gave me a heartatack because my instant thought was someone's died, why else she would call me 1am Monday. She was looking at the gifts I got from my friends, it was my birthday party that weekend, and picked up a book I was gifted, it was the Hunger games. She called me because she had read it that day and just finished it, she couldn't resist and had to tell me it's epic and I will love it. I went home Friday, dumped my shit in the corner and started reading, Mom brought me dinner and coffee, I finished it 7am on Saturday. The books are amazing. Second movie is my favourite btw, and no, no milking, it's a complete story. Enjoy❤️
district citizens have their names put into the picking pool from 12-18 with an additional vote for every year you make it through (18 year olds have a default of 7, 17 y/os have 6, 16 have 5, ect.) and you can get a year worth of grain and oil by putting your name in more times. gale is 18 and has 5 siblings, thus his high tally. katniss is 16 and has to feed prim and their mom.
Haymitch story is horrible. Pretty much none of it is in the movies. The year he won there was 48 children instead of 24. He has since then had to mentor kids that always dies. You kind of loose hope and don't want to get attached after a while. And it gets worse. He won his game in a way that made fun of the capitol. In revenge for making them look like fools the capitol killed everyone he loved.
I had no idea you guys were going to react to this, hunger games is by far one of my favourite movies so this was a real nice treat to watch while doing my uni assignment lol
I love this series. Something I saw in another comments section regarding Haymitch stuck with me. It isn't just that he survived the games that haunts him. Its also that he became the de facto Mentor for District 12 so every year he's met and watched 2 new tributes die because 12 has never had another winner.
My school was inspired by these movies and created the hugging games. If you wanted to take part you put your name in and then drew another name. The one you drew was your target. The way to eliminate your target was to catch them and hug them. If you managed then you took their note and went on to take out their target and so on. There were safe zones like the classrooms, library and canteen but the rest of the school was a war zone. People chased each other all over, hid and waited for opportunity. I once saw someone throw themselves into a classroom, landing flat down on the floor, to avoid being eliminated. It was such a fun game!😂
Some extra context: District 1 and 2 are known as career tributes where they'll train till they're 18 and then volunteer. For them entering the hunger games is an honour and those districts almost always win.
I love this movie and your reaction is more than I could ever ask for. I did know nothing about this film, when I watched it for the first time and I was as surprised as you are.
You guys should watch Silver Linings Playbook with Jennifer Lawrence Academy Award winning role w/ Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro. Her character in The Hunger Games is meant to be 16. They just released a trailer for a prequel for The Hunger Games that is the history of a young President Snow. Peter Dinklage is in it which is reason enough for me. Jennifer Lawrence is in a few of the X-Men movies if you guys cover them in your Marvel journey.
yes its sad that during population control children must be culled too. its also punishment and a reminder to not challenge those in charge, but the details of that are explained. so in short, yes the younger tributes are nothing more the fodder, its intentional to make the parents watch their kids suffer. its sad and sick.
ok rob and trin for whatever reason youtube auto played part 2 first and i had to search for part one in your channel and i have alerts turned on for your videos just a heads up
Taking a detour from LOST to enjoy this one! As an older sister, who is kind of withheld emotionally, I always related a lot to Katniss. (part of the reason I like Juliet in lost too)
you can get your name added more than the usual once a year by applying for and receiving food from the capitol. district 12 was, like most of the districts, starving. there had been only one winner ever from district 12, haymitch, peeta threw the bread because his mother would rather the pigs have the burned bread than a starving girl and her family. katniss and her family were just about dead from hunger when she got the bread, which was described as full of nuts and fruits and very strengthening. one of the things people did NOT like about Jennifer Lawrence in this role was that Katniss was described in the books as very thin and tiny, undernourished, which was why she could climb higher in the trees. i'm sorry, but jennifer just looks too well fed for the role. but as we watched her, we forgot about that because she was so good. the winners got food and a really nice house to live in for life. they also got some pretty big strings attaching them to the capitol. i'm sure you know all this by now, but i just discovered you as reactors and i am very pleased with your reactions and how you show the movies.
First watched this one because back in the day when I played Minecraft at 12 years old the game mode I loved the most was the "Hunger Games" mode that had just released lol. Really nice memories of these movies despite not liking some aspects of them, still love them a lot.
I love this story, but certainly not for the romance side of it lol. It’s not at all my main focus, even in the books. The post colonial dialogue is what got me reinvested now that I’m not 11 years old anymore lol.
Jennifer Lawrence is such a wonderful actress. Please watch more of her movies, I want to recommend WINTER’S BONE (2010) AMERICAN HUSTLE (2013) SILVER LINING’S PLAYBOOK (2012) THE POKER HOUSE (2008)
Not surprising since this series was based on a young adults genre of novels. Much like the Maze Runner or Divergent which were also dystopian type movies based on YA books.
Thank you so much for reacting to my favorite comfort movies, I can put on Catching Fire at any time. The books are in my top 3 favorite series! I know you’re not about to run to the book store based on the comments but as someone who LOVES dystopian stories, the books have 10x more detail about the government and all the propaganda and disgusting corruption that make you sick to your stomach, much more than the movies. Enjoy!
My niece read the book(s) and told me about it and it sounded like something I didn't care to see it because it sounded like a Battle Royale remake. When it came on cable, I decided to see what all the hype was about. It was good, I liked it, but not like most people. Not a bad movie in the least I just didn't do flips (not literally) over it.
probably others have already said this is very much like a Japanese movie called "Battle Royale" ... which lends itself to a rather funny and smart Pulp Fiction joke... What do they call the The Hunger Games in Japan? Battle Royale with cheese
You guys could also watch The maze runner series also the Divergent series they all are kinda not the same thing but i like to bundle them into the same type of movie type of deal
I'm really glad you guys started reacting to movies, because I love your commentary but don't follow all the shows you do. It's easy to dismiss the series as YA, but the there really is a lot of depth to it. The perfect kind of story to chat about as well, so I know you guys will have some great discussions going forward! 😁
We've already watched Tobey Maguire spideman movies before we made the channel, altho we watched both The Amazing Spiderman recently, for now they are still only on Patreon, hpefully we get sometime to edit them for youtube.
"Battle Royale" was a thing before Hunger Games but it was Japanese and this was Hollywood; especially success of this brand created the one of the worst trends in the history which lead to every kind of "Battle Royale" in every medium, anime (like Sword Art Online), movies, series, every kind of games who wants a piece from the battle royale pie. We were drowning in the neverending releases of battle royale in every medium and most people were sickened about it. And that's why even seeing the name "Hunger Games" makes my stomach upset. xD
If you haven't done IT yet you should look for a picture of Elizabeth Banks, the actress that plays Effi. What they have made of her ist so unbeliebable.
I think the hunger games movies are highly underrated. They were decently popular when they first came out but I’d say it’s one of the greatest trilogies (quadrilogy) ever made. The themes are really profound and the dystopian society is really haunting considering it reflects real life in many ways.
these movies are modern classics.I wouldn't say the same about the books,..they were insanely boring for me.I read them and donated them to the city library.
The whole setup makes no sense because it's was written backwards - it's a YA novel, written for 12-18 year olds, that's the demographic so that's dictates the the age range for the plot. There's no realism because it's not a story written to explore a social dynamic, it's a product written & published to target an (unsophisticated but lucrative) age group. There was a whole rash of these and most of them failed for the reasons above. This was one of the first to market and that's the main reason why it survived.
I have the collectors edition of these movies. It even has the mocking Jay pendant thing or pin what ever it's called. Also this movie where Jennifer wasn't the first female lead in a movie or movies this was the first movie that got really big and meant something her being the main character. Final thing I'll say if you wanna see a funny version of this movie idk if it'll be a youtube video I can't remember what's all in it other then 1 scene but it's called The Starving games. It's a parody that makes fun of this movie lol

CAN’T WAIT FOR YOU TO WATCH IT!
in the books districts 1-4 volunteer for games each year in the movies it is districts 1 and 2

This trilogy really wasn't that bad. It suffers from it's popularity in the sequels a little, but not too much.
Very few modern books are in my top ten but this series is one, absolutely incredible and so much so that the movies are excellent 👌
