Carvel Planking Ep22 Laying the Deck

- In the 22nd episode of my CARVEL PLANKING series I show how I laid a two-layer deck on my 24' Ranger class Gaff sloop new build, and sheathed it with dynel cloth set in epoxy resin, giving a modern tough and leakproof deck which retains the traditional look. My decades of wooden boat construction and in boatbuilding education means that you get the benefit of methods that really work. Have a squiz at the 21 other episodes so far on @SmithysBoatshed Channel.
Beautiful Angels
I would love to work with you ,your wealth of knowledge would be a feather in anyones cap, cheers.
I trained several apprentices over the years, but now I stop work and go sailing whenever I feel like it.
Beautiful interior ceiling. Thanks for the detailed explanation of your work. I find it helpful and interesting.
Every time I watch one of your videos, I learn at least one more detail that I hadn’t picked up on before. As I am at least a year away from my deck, I’ll have have to watch again then! Hope you will pay a visit when you are in Pittwater. Thanks Ian
Will do soon.
Looking terrific Ian.
Nicely done Ian. We recently did virtually the same system on the cabin top of The Lady Hopetoun at the Sydney Heritage Fleet. The 120 year old Kauri tongue and groove sub-layer was mostly in good order. It originally had canvas.
love your work Ian. Looking forward to seeing it on the Harbour
You and me both, Dave.
Excellent communication skills! Although I sail a 35’ fiberglass Catalina, I’ll leverage your knowledge to restore two family Wenaumet Kitten wooden catboats built in 1939 (2) and 1950 (36).

Great! Will we see posts?
@@SmithysBoatshedI’m working now to build a proper boat shed and additional tools. I will want to document the effort to restore both boats to original design standards. I’ll certainly appreciate knowing what type of camera, microphone, and editing software you are employing.
Great work Ian, I love your videos.
Thanks, tell your friends!
@@SmithysBoatshed I've rold them!
Nice work Smithy
Another wonderful and very informative video! Cheers
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you , as always soo interesting and informative. 👏👏
Nice one Ian! I bought your book earlier this year, a thoroughly good read that I can recommend to anyone interested in or conducting wooden boat building or restoration. Kind regards from the UK 🇬🇧 👍🏻
Cheers!
Looks pretty slick mate
If I borrowed my wife's scissors (her good ones, that she uses for sewing), I would be in the doghouse!
🤔 grave 😂
My dad did the same thing building his Heron back in the 80’s. Mum never forgave him. 😂
I feel sorry for the person who has to replace that deck, in about 100 years.
I envy them!
