As someone who's worked on a mine site before, all I can think of are the regular safety requirements that our safety lead put us through, and the regular morning meetings. Mate, where's your hard hat. The steel toed boots. Harness? If there's power, where is your buddy? Fun fact: mining fatalities are normally in the single digits annually, but last year (2023) had them at a higher 40 deaths. One of the last ones involved one guy staying up top instead of being with his buddy down below, while equipment was running, and the guy who was down below had some part of his gear get caught in a drill. Which is all I'll say on the matter. Thanks, safety leads, for thoroughly traumatizing me!
Yup, I think "this game's not bad, but it's not brilliant" sums it up well. Nicely creepy claustrophobic atmosphere. Fairly well written, if too frequent, notes. And, thankfully, some active threat. Of course, there was also CJU's tongue-in-cheek humor to get us through the slow spots and silly jump scares: "Have I got safety boots? I don't think so--I don't have any _feet."_ 😂
Yeah, I didn't mean it like that. It just seems more like a bunch of literature students left the notes. More diversity in writing style and expression would make it way more realistic. I find it hilarious, that all of the miners are supposed to be THAT literate in this game. 🤣
@@risibisi2379 Yeah, while I don't know for sure, I'm pretty sure that miners didn't happily *choose* mining to be their profession- the circumstances surrounding their profession would most likely make them less 'eclectic' (not stupid mind you). I do agree the dev(s) should have definitely gotten more into diversifying the notes however, it is a small nitpick against the game hardly worth nicking points off for an indie horror title.
I have been having the worst week ever and I swear, the only thing keeping me sane is being able to tune everything out and I seem to only be able to do that watching your videos! Thank you so much! And a long video today is just everything right now! Your the best!
Man, you are just killing it with these games chris!! Appreciate the time and energy it takes to put out these videos. I don't think some ppl truly understand the commitment it takes to upload regularly. So kudos man 👏 cheers!
This developer actually shows a lot of promise! The animations were quite good for the most part, I LOVED the ambient noises in the surface shack, and some of the jumpscares were legitimately well done! If I had to offer some critiques, it would be these: - A lot of progress felt dependent on pacing back and forth between dead ends - A legitimate threat like the miner ghost in the beginning would make the ambient noises feel really potent - In the mines, the ambience lost a bit of its punch, it felt a bit repetitive; again, could be fixed by a proper threat - A few too many notes for my liking That said, well done! Hat's off to the developer. I've seen significantly less from many other indie devs, this one put some heart into this! I would love to see what else they can make!
I love walking simulators, mainly because I am a slow-paced gamer. It doesn't really bother me too much, having to wander about and read tons of notes - so long as the quality manages to impress somewhat and not feel like one of them cheap indie games from the early days of UA-cam horror. This one has a decent setting to work with - mines and huge wooden structures such as sawmills are always good for a scare. And while the protagonist not caring one bit about his survival did take me out of it a bunch, the atmosphere ultimately managed to draw me back in a couple of times. And honestly, most horror protagonist hardly ever seem to care, so I will let it slide. What I really enjoyed was the verticality of the place, climbing ladders, dancing across rooftops, etc. With a hole-ridden structure like this one, it feels quite neat, for you can see where you have been to already and such, where you might eventually go, etc. Not impressed by the ghosts, unfortunately - I am more into monsters. Suppose the model/animation could be better, but alas, you cannot have everything. Regardless, the first half was decent enough. As for the second, the mines, I enjoyed the transition from an open to a much more narrow/oppressive area. Good lighting and fog/smoke effects as well. Sadly, the ghosts still aren't doing it for me. Now, I am not against ghosts at all. I have enjoyed a great deal of horror games with ghosts. Perhaps I just do not fear those that look like humans and nothing more. But I digress - wandering the tunnels felt eerie at first, a little earie for sure, but we are still just reading notes for the most part. The formula is starting to become very superficial at this point. Most people I am sure will not invest the time to read all of those notes in such a short game. Beyond that, we are just waiting to trigger flags in order to make spooky nonsense happen, which serves to progress the plot. I can only agree with CJU here - not terrible at all, but also not good, just passable. Really is a shame, for I feel that the setting we have here could have been used to create something better. Basically just a waste of potential. Now, here me out, good people of the world - the game still works, doesn't it? A decent foundation is better than something that is just rubbish. Ultimately, the usual suggestions apply in this case. Less reliance on jump-scares, key-hunting, note-reading - and please, have a somewhat more intelligent protagonist. Personally, I cannot take games seriously anymore where the dude/gal you play as just plunges him- or herself into dangers without any sense of reason. Have them be a little smart at least. The last part down in the depths reignited my interest a little, especially the moving rock walls here and there, but to throw in demonic magic or whatever at the end seems a little silly. More often than not, the random inclusion of Satan turns an otherwise decent scenario into something far-fetched - if not properly set up in some sort of way. CJU once played a different game on here which was also about descending into a mine while under a time limit, but it was far more ambiguous and did not just reveal at the end that it was a demon all along. But we truly are digressing now. In conclusion, the game was alright and had some good moments, though, I would love for someone to take the same setting (mine and whatnot) and turn it into something which more suits my fancy. Suppose that would be all. Since I am an old man, I shall now to back to sleep.
I'll be honest, just seeing notes written (decently) in decent English is refreshing, even if the rest of the game is very tropey. I'm sure developers do their best but seeing notes in horror games that have completely broken English pulls me out of it so badly, especially when they're supposed to be formal writing like news reports.
I am surprised at the good ending too. I half expected to find out that the demon didn't exist and you just had a radiation poisoning that was causing you to hallucinate.
Never mind government closure, there's no way in hell a mine that saw 100 miners going missing in the space of only a few years would ever be able to hire new workers. Nobody in their right mind would work there.
Okay when you found that note upstairs the atmosphere picked up and I started to get spooked. The breathing didn’t help! 😨 I feel like the above-ground ghosts and spooks were warning you away and the underground ones were slowly getting more and more malevolent 😬
Unfortunately my son just woke up from a nap so I'll have to watch this later but thank you for the video cj can't wait to see what shenanigans you get into in this one!
I honestly absolutely love your videos! Super fun to watch! You actually say things as I say them. Thank you for your time that you devote to all of this!
The look of the game was really good and the sounds were pretty good for the most part, the one gripe I have about the sounds is the lack of water sounds outside the mine. As someone who lives in very close proximity to a creek, they are quite loud. I think there was a little too much backtracking and some of the things in the game either made no sense or weren't communicated in the best way (note from guy who hanged himself, diary being updated with essentially the same objective over and over). Some of the jump scares were pretty good but obviously some weren't. I liked the overall atmosphere of the mine, exploring something abandoned was really very quiet (at first) and that can be extremely unsettling. I think this game could be even better with a bit more work, add some more threats, change some of the notes or tell the story in a bit of a different way, remove some of the lackluster jump scares, and remove a bit of the (imo) excessive backtracking. Overall, I quite enjoyed this experience. Thanks for yet another great gameplay, Chris! Keep up the good work!
Promising storyline. Mining environment spot on. Demon and unpredictable evil hidden in the tunnels is predictable. If there had been a bit more detail on the miners, the accidents and the cover up, by the higher ups. The game would have a little more creep/horror factor. Due to humans being the most evil species on the planet.
Yeah it's a decent game, not great but not terrible by any means. Like you said it's very wordy, we could have done with less notes for once ^^ It does look good and there were a few good scares indeed (but also too much of those). It was a bit long-ish, it would maybe have better worked as a one-hour game?
Our whole household is sick and a 1.5 hour Chris upload is exactly the medicine (at least I) needed 😊 Also hope to see you play Poppy Playtime Chapter 3 apparently coming out next Tuesday 👀
It never fails; having to hunt/find a dang fuse. 😱😯😆😂 14:17 Why would an ancient demon want to be lurking in these mines for centuries!? Nothing better to do?

13:39 crazy that the character doesnt have any reaction on it, i really wish cheap jumpscares gets removed completely in games. cheap jumpscares doesnt make a horror game
I'm a little confused as tp what time this was set in. At the start, the prologue set by the protagonist felt like it was Lovecraftian in era, but then the car looked newer (but not necessarily present day), and finally the night-vision camera felt even more up-to-date. So it felt a bit out of time, which was distracting.
Chris as I was watching your lets play of this game parts of it slowly but surely started to seem familiar to me until I realized that the Decent could easily be considered a sequel of sorts to the 2013 mining horror film called beneath

That's horrifying. What a terrible way to die.
Gruesome death. Poor man. May he rest in peace.

It was boring and slow.
This is my favorite comment on this video 😂😂
Wow. I'm quite impressed by the eclectic sence of literary writing the miners express in their left behind notes. 🤔👍🏼
“Sense.” Why do you seemed so puzzled by that? Why can’t miners have eclectic literary intelligence? Seems like an odd thing to judge.
Yeah, I didn't mean it like that. It just seems more like a bunch of literature students left the notes. More diversity in writing style and expression would make it way more realistic. I find it hilarious, that all of the miners are supposed to be THAT literate in this game. 🤣

Listen, a game actually based on the movie the descent would be terrifying!!
I would definitely play that
I think that was that awful Gollum game. Lol

Sorry you’re going through a 💩y week. I hope it gets better :)
Feel 4 ya. I’m going through a rough patch as well, the thought of a new video by Chris keeps me warm and going . Also he is my sleep medicine 💊

One of my favorite youtubers. No fake reactions and legit gameplay
You know the jumpscare is good when you hear "Jeez Louise".

That said, well done! Hat's off to the developer. I've seen significantly less from many other indie devs, this one put some heart into this! I would love to see what else they can make!
Watching this game while also in a storm makes it much more immersive

@berat9339 Considering the other reactions to my comment, I can only respectfully disagree.
That was really fun! Thank you for playing, CJU!
Good thing all those ghosts kept breaking down barriers, Kool-Aid man style. Otherwise you might never have escaped 😆🤣🤣😆
More walking than anything else but I appreciate the good ending and at least some jumpscares.
The sound in this game had me crawling up the walls! Wow!
My man still standing on business after all these years. Thank you man we appreciate you.
"Excuse me I'm trying to read!" CJU's commentary can make any game 100% better!

Completely agree.
My thoughts exactly.
I think the Steam page info was meant to say it takes takes in a mine that opened in the 19th century and the game itself is set in more present day.

Thank you for reading all of the notes out loud.
Yay, I'd just finished catching up this morning. 90 more minutes 💚
Got to admit the jump scares are getting me 😂
Great play through! I really love watching you play!
If this game is anything like the horror movie The Descent from 2005 this will be a real treat, one of my favorite horror movies of all time.
nah just the same title, watched a playthrough before and was hoping the same lol But I really liked it
The main character is still down there if you watched the UK version.
The way the miner moves is so unnerving!
Excellent! Been waiting for you to get to this one!

Ah, yes. Nothing says "sneak" like turning on a loud generator and all the lights in a place. 😂
Your "if you"s are top tier my guy. TOP TIER!
Perfect timing! Just got off work early, can't wait to grab smh to eat and watch this~☆

This game is just... That wooden bar was the single most useless item until this point in the game. I'm dying :'-D
"And they call it a mine. A MINE!"
"This is no mine. It's a tomb."
The movie is absolutely amazing!!!

Been years since I watched your content I was in middle school, now 27, gotta say youre content is as amazing as always keep it up bro.
"Like or dislike the video by the end, alright"? No, Chris, this isn't how it works. First I like your video and then I watch it, alright?
CJ: What do the spirits want me to see?
Me: What Arkansas. 😂😂😂
0:23 description reminds me of film- the decendent
Absolutley loving your gameplay:D so eerie and creepy, perfect game to watch before bed.
Let's go CJU!!!!! 💪
So much room for suspicious activities! 😮
Always a Pleasure seeing Chris playing horror games!😁👍
25:53 I guess the devs thought 1900 - 1999 was the 19th century instead of the 20th?
Our whole household is sick and a 1.5 hour Chris upload is exactly the medicine (at least I) needed 😊
Also hope to see you play Poppy Playtime Chapter 3 apparently coming out next Tuesday 👀
Did anyone else get excited thinking it was linked to the movies lol like..a game with that premise is dope.
It never fails; having to hunt/find a dang fuse. 😱😯😆😂 14:17
Why would an ancient demon want to be lurking in these mines for centuries!? Nothing better to do?
Hi Chris 👋👋❤❤
Hey hey!
oh i am so happy! i was hoping you'd play this.
You always pick the best games. As always, love your comintery. you must be working your butt off putting out these videos. I appreciate all your hard work, and thank you for sharing them with all of us. 😊
The atmosphere of this game is so creepy & cool, but the ongoing interruptions by the ultra-long newspaper articles are rather annoying... unfortunately!
I'd say it's not bad, but only because of your commentary
off course you would say that because you love the dark games but i like to see WHATEVER.
13:39 crazy that the character doesnt have any reaction on it, i really wish cheap jumpscares gets removed completely in games. cheap jumpscares doesnt make a horror game
Alright game for sure. I laughed so much with the spirit floating 1:22:42 soooo funny!!!!
Top down RPG style game and some of it has spooky mining areas, stoked to see this ki
If anyone want more mine horror, check out the My Bloody Valentine movies, the original one and remake are amazing
A group of female friends have a weekend exploring a cave in the blue ridge mountains, when they descend deeper they find they are not alone.
I'm a little confused as tp what time this was set in. I'm uncertain, but, I think the camera should be used whenever facing a ghost, as documentation.
So according to the games Steam page the reviews are mixed and I think I know the major problem with the game before seeing it... It doesn't feature CAGE-FACE. Lol
The problem with most horror games 😂
ty cj for playing this i dont think i have clicked on the like faster lol i have been wanting to see how u play this lots of people that i have watched play this did not look at the surroundings
Your amazing with these games. My favorite channel.
flying in a jumbo jet is easy going under ground tunnels easy
I like you better than some other channels. You are calm. Others are loud and it annoys me.
How the heck are you so calm??? I shit my pants with most of the jumpscares 😅
I quite enjoyed this one, wasnt too bad. Sounds were pretty great actually.
Yeag one hour horor game again. Lets investigate a mine😁😁
hard hat will protect you
Might as well read a book than play this game. Never seen a game having so much to read.
Nice..New video..Must Watch😂
I must always have a fuze on you, if you want to survive in every situations 😂
Very good game! But please try out American Arcadia next! You will not be disappointed!
no oxygen for the lungs
Its fun to watch you play, and i love your commentary...your truly an entertainment i enjoy...what a great soul u are! The decision at the end, to label it 'terrible or great makes me smile...
Never change-your fabulous the way u are!❤
*muah! * cheek, and * muah * other cheek
Cheers from Colorado!!
I like the stuffed dog
I really enjoyed watching this game! I think the concept is fairly unique compared to the majority of horror games being about haunted houses. So I am a lot more forgiving of games that are trying something different vs a game that is technically better but predictable. I don't mind all of the reading. But I'm not person who has read every single book in skyrim 😂 im here for the stories!
Definitely an interesting game. Very creepy for sure. The excess amounts of notes remind me of Amnesia The Dark Decent. Great gameplay!
Let’s gooo!!!
You know Cju, im watching your videos for long time and you are one awsom player, its nice to watch how your chanel is growing strongly! But i am allways wondering how come you never played masterpiece horror game call Hellseed (full game ofc)? I thinck that is something you would enyoj.. Best wishes 😘
It looks like there was a read button, might've made the reading easier.
