Shane awesome awesome vid ! This little amp really got my attention and your video has been the best demo I've seen. Can you check out the other amps in the range? Thanks!
Try going from the effect send into the return of a Bandit. It sounds amazing and the reverb on the Peavey works. The only downer is the Bluetooth goes straight into the power amp of the joyo, so using it doesn't work in this config. All volume is controlled by the gain of the joyo. I use a silver stripe.
Hey shane, when you build a pedalboard whats your way of thinking. 1. What do you want to gain from the pedalboard that the amp isnt giving you. 2. Do you want the pedals to work with the amp or are you getting all your tones from pedals. 3. And also how do you build a board that works with different amps and guitars. Cheers for all the help.
I used my Atomic in a live band setting at a place called The Blind Tiger this past weekend. I disconnected the speaker from my big amp and pushed it with the Atomic. You can see and hear it over on the videos page on my youtube channel.
Very nice little amp there Shane. Does the Vox thing well, however, I think the OD channel sounds BETTER than any driven AC amp I've ever heard. The ONLY 1 I've ever heard that DID sound phenomenal, and was not that ratty or boxy kind of tone, belonged to Mr. Fabulous! And he AIN'T selling it lol!
sounds very nice! Ah k, that guy has a Clean/Dirt switch. The little Orange Micro Dark just has one channel, you have to crank up the Gain to get the dirt. Anyways looks like a good little amp head!
Sounds really good man... I see one or more of these in my future. Great tasty playing as always. I really like the new setup as well. Posters look great!
Luis 77 they're only $150... the only thing I don't like is that they don't give any clues as to what they sound like from the names, except for the Zombie, which is obviously a metal amp(and sounds great). Atomic = Vox, but what are the others? ???
In pair with a tokai les paul, and mainly for straight rock n roll and blues (aerosmith, led zeppelin, etc) would you recommend this one or the joyo jackman? Thank you and great demo!
great review man I hope you can do a review of their whole line...especially the joyo rectifier type amp can't remember the name the one after thors hammer.
These are rated 20 W at 8 ohms, I am not sure how much Wattage you get if you run it with a 16 ohm cab. I would like to hear it drive an AlNiCo Blue cabinet.
nice sounding amp. I run 4ohm boxes with my big amp, and I see on the back minimum 8ohms. Puts me out of the picture unless I drag the 4x12 out, which wont happen. so, you have to load the output even using headphones?
@@thefrost2005 Hi, I know this is an old comment. But if you see this, I’d like to know how your Harley Benton 2x12 vertical cab sounds and if you still like it. I’m thinking of getting the same one. Thanks.
mine is very noisy, even went a turn my volume knobs off constant hum. Tried multiple guitars as well. Even noisier when i plug my multifeffects unit into it. Any idea on what would cause that?
I had the Orange variant (MeteOR) - I had a look inside. I found the Valve/Tube did very little and the amp sounded quite plippy/plinky solid-statey. I swapped out the Valve to a vintage 12AU7 and as I expected, very little, if anything changed The gain in the Meteor was provided by two TL072 op amps providing the second preamp route. It didn't have any valve characteristics to my ear, meaning the valve stage (and probably the bluetooth) are both more gimmick than substance. The Hotone Nano's do a similar job without the frills for less (albeit less wattage) They are good amps with a good feature set and provide a decent practice pedal base or headphone amp though. Any chance you could tear that one down Shane? See which op amp(s) are hiding in there?
I thought at first there was a difference, but after putting the 12AX7 Ruby back in it wasn't noticeable to my ear. I'd never had the amp blasting but it just seemed like a good solid state amp, if a little plinky with that solid state attack.
DJ Klinger I'd Imagine it's the same deal. My other amp is all tube, but it's not a particularly well thought of Ibanez. Without messing around with the tubescreamer stage and just using it straight through, there is a big difference in sound and feel. With the Joyo I swapped tubes from AX7 to AU7 thinking I'd drop the amount of gain to more natural OD levels. Getting no change was the proof to me that the OD was supplied by a built in opamp "pedal". I'm no sparky, but I'm led to believe that preamp tubes work better in pairs and often benefit from being different to one another. That and the fact that the voltages these Amps run is a token value and will just about light the tube up. Still, great practice amp if you have an existing cab, and also a pedal platform on clean. And a great headphone unit. Drop the gimmicky tube and bluetooth though and drop the price though.
There are a three op-amp chips used in the signal path in the Orange Micro terror. The valve is used in what's known as 'starved plate' mode. It's basically a FET with a pilot light in this scenario. Two JRC4558 are used around the valve. I'm guessing for pre-amp gain and signal buffering in the tone stack. The third is a JRC4560. A lot of the sound will come from the op-amps. Think 'Tubescreamer'. Running the valve at 12 volts is more a marketing exercise. At those voltages, they get quite raggedy quite quickly. They don't really get into that sweet, compressed region at such low voltages, but hey!, VALVE!
There’s many accounts of people swapping the tube in the micro terror and hearing a significant difference. And assuming the bantamp series were made to compete with the micro terror, they should essentially be similar. I wonder why you had such an experience with it
Shane's demo sounded great as usual. I can tell you that the Vox MV50 AC is a killer little amp....love mine! (higher wattage as well....25@8 ohms) I also have the Hotone British Invasion. It too is killer, BUT I have to run it thru a Fryette PS-2 (50 watt boost) for sufficient volume in a band setting. And that's expensive. For tone, I'd give a very slight edge to the Hotone (thru the PS-2) due to the full EQ adjustments (bass, treb., and mids), but overall with all things considered, the Vox MV50 AC gets my nod. Mounted it on my pedal board!
joyoaudio.com/en/product/show_277.html The preamp is 1 12ax7+JFET(s). The power section is Class D solid state discrete ('digital') based. It's a relatively forward thinking design. No big transformers to include in the box and runs cool. One little preamp tube is not a big deal compared to a pair of 6L6's or the like. Great design, great sound. I would like to see the amp with the cover off (hey, I guess I'll just have to go buy one, yes??). If anyone swaps the tube out I'd be curious to learn opinions on that as well.
WOW Great Video! This Joyo Atomic AMP is just perfect. The last riff played at 6:32, this bluesy..is like Hendrix...I forgot the name of the song... Does anyone know it??
Great video, mate 👍 6:32 - is this from an actual song, or are you just ad-libbing? Either way, I really like it, whatever it is. But then, I'm a sucker for a descending bass line! ☺
According to the info published on Joyo's site, it is a JFET+12ax7 based preamp, combined with a Class D power section. So, yes, it is a hybrid -- but based on a new twist or design. Seems like the engineers at Joyo honed in a good basic design that should be much more popular in the the future.
I have the atomic and its definitively a more brittle(AC) sound, from what I've heard the jackman has more of that midrange bite, but I would like to own both of them and run them in stereo.
Exactly how I’ve always wanted to set up my rig... get me an amp that I have to hook up a bunch of different pedals to so I can never find the tone I desire yet endlessly search for!
I wonder how difficult it would be to replace that switch w/ a TRS jack and make it footswitchable. Seems like it should be fairly easy, but that's without looking inside.
Id like one i just dont know which one i should buy because i like to play blues rock and metal. So looks like id need to buy three of them to play different genre. Do they have fx send and return?
I know this is a response to an ancient question, but I'm hoping it will prove to be helpful someone! I LOVE the classic VOX sound I get from my VOX AD50VT, so I bought a VOX MV50 Boutique as a secondary amp. WOW! I have never in my life been so disappointed with a guitar toy . . . noise floor is virtually unbearable with Gain or Volume > 12 noon. Super disappointed with the NuTube performance : (
Joe Biden pickups. Ha! Wondered what he was up to since he stepped out of politics. 😋😉. Sounds nice. Guessing that sound is from a big cab. Wonder what the built in speaker sounds like?
It does, it's an incredible sounding little 5w amp... But this is a bit more portable I find, just because there's less valves to damage! (I used both this and a mooer AC on a European tour with a cab sim to the desk, but the mooer failed part way through!)
In the video, your settings switch back and forth. There's you playing obviously live and the view quickly changes with close up of amp with gain settings higher? Not a big deal...
Shane awesome awesome vid ! This little amp really got my attention and your video has been the best demo I've seen. Can you check out the other amps in the range? Thanks!
I'll ask Joyo and see what I can do. ☺️

There something about a tele through an ac30 thats just magic to my ears

How does the clean channel hold up in a band? How's the headroom on this thing?
I wonder how well it would sound with the treble booster
The amp's gain sounds really good! =O
Excellent demo and the amp sounds good.
Shane, any chance of doing a demo on the JOYO BLUEJAY 20 Watt Mini Tube Head
Hi Jerry, it'll be up in the next 48 hours. I have it scheduled. :-)
Is it loud? Can i use it on live gig?
That does sound surprisingly great
How would you compare these to Joyo's amps in pedals, like the American and British, etc.?
He's got a video on these pedals, check 'em out
Sounds really nice but still that Bluetooth antenna seems totally unnecessary. Might as well remove it and make the amp slightly cheaper.
Luis 77 Couldn't agree more.
Luis 77 but i think that is pretty handy for practice, just put on a backing track and play!
A normal aux in would do the trick cheaper. That antenna just looks like it's going to be a nuisance and break easily.

great demo! What pickups do you have in your tele? those rails.
That was some great playing in your intro!
Thanks Jason :-)
Shane, where did you put your overdrive? In the effects loop or in front of the amp?
great review man I hope you can do a review of their whole line...especially the joyo rectifier type amp can't remember the name the one after thors hammer.
Just come across the BanTamp range. Question: Is the output more or less than the Vox AC15C1?

No you don’t have to!
Which one would you recommend for blues and classic rock sound.. The atomic or the blue Jay?
my opinion, atomic. since it mimics vox ac.
Thank you my friend, now can you recamend an 12inch speaker cabinet to go with it. Price range $150 to $250 ....

GAS worthy I'd say... almost can't believe that's only 1 preamp tube and a solid state power state... sounds great
One thing though shane, next time try fiddling with the EQ (tone) knob a bit more just to hear how the EQ works

How does it compare to the Mustangs AC30 patch?
I know it’s not the intended use, but could you hug with it? Nothing huge. Like a church sanctuary or a small bar?
If he threw that tone knob down to 11/12, it would have sounded much much better and less fizzy.
Very nice
Does this require a speaker cabinet? If so, which one did you use?
Nope, and the headphone output has cabinet simulation unlike the Orange Micros
So...I see that there is a channel switch, but are they footswitchable? I didnt notice any footswitch input

Thomas Hoell: Joyo makes a cab designed to go with this. It's called the Bantcab.

what's an illigitimate amp sound like
fizzy, dont like it with gain
Nice playing, but not my sort of sound.
It's too bad it's so ugly.
Branden Witte I guess that's subjective I reckon they look pretty cool and somewhat original which is a good thing 😊👍
It's not really ugly, they just picked the wrong color for the Vox crowd.
