  • Today's video is a career inspired video talking about how one can become a CLS/MLS, here in the US. This is just a general guide so please consult your local programs on how they accept applicants, it differs for every state. This is also to answer a lot of the questions I got from my "Why I wanted to become a CLS" video. I hope this video helps you and goodluck.❤️

    If you have a BS in biology, what do you need from here to become a CLS?

    At my college, MLS is its own degree, so it’s the first 3 years of a Biological Science degree and the last year is just clinicals and classes particularly for MLS. Luckily I already was a bio major before I changed to a MLS major so I had most of it done. I’m finishing it up now and can apply for the last year of the program soon.

    What state has the easiest and fastest route to become a lab scientist? I travel so I can move out of state to go to a program.

    hii! im currently doing a B.S. in microbial biology at berkeley, but some of the CLS prereqs like hematology & clinical chem are only offered here virtually. do you think these classes might be looked down upon by CLS programs since the labs are entirely virtual?
    P.S. your videos are so helpful! ❤️❤️

      It should be fine, try contacting the CLS programs you are interested in applying they should be able to give you a more concrete answer with regards to their prerequisite classes. Goodluck and I hope you get in a program. 😊

      I went to SFSU, and I did BS in Biology with concentration in Microbiology Clinical Science track. I did the CLS program there as well.

    another question what is the difference between technician and cls? Do they make difference in salary? Thank you so much

    • @ReaNav
      @ReaNav  Рік тому

      Depends where you are but in California there is a big difference in MLT vs CLS salary. CLS get paid a bit more, they are able to run high complexity testing while MLT could not, thus there is more demand for CLS than MLT. Again I can only speak for the northern CA region.

      As long as it’s not the prerequisite classes I think you still have hope. If you have a program you are interested in best to contact the program coordinator to see where you are at and what you can do to get in, best of luck! 😊

    Do i need to love chemistry for this job? I hate math and chemistry >.< though i actually havent tried taking chemistry class ill be taking it next semester though.

    • @ReaNav
      @ReaNav  2 роки тому +1

      I didn’t enjoy chemistry as a student but I had to take a lot of these classes in order to get in the program. The hardest one for me was quantitative analysis and organic chem. The job does not require that much in depth of chemistry skills, but you still need to go through these brutal classes and get good grades in order to get in the program.

    Would a degree in Biochemistry work to get me in this career? The university I go to does not offer a degree in medical lab sciences but I’ve heard that a degree Biochemistry or Biology would qualify me for this job.

    • @ReaNav
      @ReaNav  11 місяців тому +1

      It depends on your location and where you are trying to apply. For example, In California, they require an MLS license and that requires getting into a CLS program after a bachelor’s degree. While in Texas, there are programs where the upper division classes are already pre reqs for applying for the license and built into a 4 year curriculum for a Bachelor’s degree. Know the requirements of the program you are looking to get into. You are going to need the license if you are interested in becoming a CLS/MLS, on top of a Bachelor’s degree.

    Is clinical and medical lab technology used interchangeably for the bachelors? Is it hard to find a job on the associates and bachelors level?

    • @ReaNav
      @ReaNav  10 днів тому

      Yes these are terms interchangeably in the US. Best to pursue Bacherlor’s for better pay and more opportunities. Good luck! 😊

      ASCP requires for you to go through an accredited program (internship) in order to take the exam and get licensed as a CLS.

    Hi, how did you gain work experience to be eligible in the CLS program with SFSU? I am a graduate student in Biology in the Philippines, and I am having my transcripts be evaluated to get the CLS trainee license. But I am more concerned with the lab or work experience and also letter of recommendation. I hope you can help me.

    • @ReaNav
      @ReaNav  10 днів тому

      I am actually not that sure how it goes if you got your degree in the Philippines. I studied college here and therefore it’s a different process, the best step would be for you to reach out to the program you are interested in they will be the most helpful resource for you.😊

    Os it hard like RT and nursing?

    • @ReaNav
      @ReaNav  Рік тому

      Depends in what you are passionate about. CLS school pre requisites i personally thought was harder than nursing (i did the prerequisite classes for nursing too). BUT i think what separates CLS as a profession is that probably 95% of the time we don’t do direct patient care, which makes nursing and RT way harder. That’s just my personal opinion (since i definitely am not built for direct patient care) and it depends which area you live since sometimes CLS draw blood and that would probably be the most patient interaction you’d ever have to do as a CLS.

      Healthcare jobs carry that risk. I personally feel the opposite and is quite happy and fulfilled with my job. I love what I do, and have solace in the thought that i’ve helped a lot of people without them knowing it. It matters where you work. 💕
