Sis there are a few things you should touch on. I’m a med tech MT with a Bio BS and Minor in Chem... made 90k at my first job night shift 7 on 7 off... what you didn’t mention about travel tech is what you touched upon just a little at the end. You said you didn’t want to relocate and it be too stressful also that the place you will be working for is in serious need mostly because the upper management is greedy fucks who don’t give a damn about their employees. Most places that pay $48 an hr you have to do the work of 6 people and it’s okay for a while but you can’t have a long term “regular job”.. when you go half way across the country and land in the middle of nowheresville and you aren’t from around there you are EVEN MORE expendable and vulnerable to cuts and change in policy. That’s why you have to get with the right agency or else not only your co workers will hate you but the manager will use the schedule against you and treat you as if everyday was your last anyway..
@@empru7029 No I was in New Orleans. But I worked pretty much every day because most of that was overtime. They were really short and could never find good techs and I was one of 3 people willing to work at night so it would be a nice bit of money but for working some pay periods like 135+ hours it’s not worth it… UPDATE tho to when a commented on this a while back.. I now have a travel job that pays 10k per month. The culture is way better and I only work 40 hours per week. I have been extended on this contract 3 times and it’s a pretty good gig lol
Do they give u travel accommodations when ur first starting off on the job? Or would u have to have money saved up/loans taken out to pay for a place to stay/trip money before starting the job ?
These traveling agencies/travel job positions also accept more than just ASCP certification. It will depend on the location that one would like to travel to. For example, I know that Alabama and Florida accept ASCP and AMT certifications, but NY will accept ASCP only. Just depends on what certification the state prefers. Usually a travel agency will have the information needed pertaining to certain travel job positions and which certification they accept.

Or you can major in any science degree and then do a 1-yr post-Bachelors certification and get certified through the ASCP to work in a lab. 4-yr degree Bachelors are Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) or Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS); 2-yr degree Associates are Medical Lab Technician (MLT). There are different routes that people go to get their certifications so you could have a Bachelors in whatever and then do the certification and get some experience in a lab (as a lab assistant or phlebotomist) and then get MLT certification. The difference between a MT and MLT is about their duties (based on hospital/clinic), and pay. However, this is about travel and many of the assignments you’ll find are for MLTs (unless specified for both MT/MLT or where the company or hospital states that only MT are accepted to apply).
Which agencies provide housing? My mom worked as travel nurse in 80's and 90's and they gave her a car and housing as part of the benefits. All the travel workers lived in the same condo complex.
It is very dependent for company and state so if you’re interested in learning more about the stipend look up jobs in the states that you would be interested to work in and that will help you out.

Florida doesnt accept ascp, or cali
They do not require you to be MT, MLTs can also apply. ASCP is not the only certification they take some states accept AMT

I believe that is true for California! Cost of living is higher so compensation is definitely more!
