@@luisalmeida8275 we're not told about the destiny of pre-accountability life that ends. It's comforting to think they're auto-admitted into Heaven, or that their souls would've been evil & so they were spared punishment by death before sins, or etc. We're told that all see the likelihood of a Creator via considering nature, but by only one Author. We're told that irreversibly Hell-bound lives are created only to serve His overall purpose for the Righteous. We won't know until all is revealed, & even if then, may not retain the understanding when taken into Heaven because every tear will be wiped-away. I expect that our memories will be cleansed, while those who rejected & rebelled will have perfect memories they will not be able to escape.

@@luisalmeida8275 we're told He creates everyone & knows everyone as they're knitted together in their Mother's womb. None but Him give life. He knows most people won't serve Him (pre-Law), obey (Law era), or accept that Jesus is the Messiah (grace, Gentile era). Few are chosen, narrow is the path (One option). Many will perish, wide is their path (many options). Canaanites, Perizzites, Amorites, Egyptians & many others were evil peoples whose fates were certain. Our Clay understanding is that they didn't get a fair shake. G_d's Potter understanding is that whatever He does, it's righteous. @@luisalmeida8275 Maybe research what life was like before the fall. Some of the thing you're speaking about were one way beforr the fall, different after the fall. As far as we know God could've easily had Cain and Abel born with accountability as you presented but things changed.
Adam came to the knowledge of sin, then was ashamed, hid himself, lied, then blamed not to long and we see pride and murder from Cain. God knows us before we are in the womb. Knows us, not who we are but what we are and places us where we need to be. People forget God could scrap this creation and be Just in doing so...kids and all. @@luisalmeida8275 Well, you also have to think about why God let a baby pass on. God doesn’t let evil happen unless good can come from it. A child should have free will. We learn at our younger ages a lot and our earlier years help us and set up the foundation for who we will be. God can’t just be like “install default mod 1 until child is of age”. That wouldn’t be moral since free will reveals the truth. Again giving a baby a matured brain with intelligence would basically make it a robot. We become who we are by be influenced and experiencing things. I think free will is better than no will.
There would be no use for God to increase a persons lifespan. God knows what the future holds. Most people stay the same after a certain age and they become very stubborn about there beliefs. God knows that if a person is not going to change their minds about him when they are young or in their prime that they don’t want to know God. God is too loving to force someone into his presence. Seek the Lord and you shall find him.

God i would assume is very reasonable so if someone who is mentally incapable of understanding this concept most likely would be excluded from perishing but depending on how much they sinned would face some sort of punishment just like Christians who fail to live a holy life will suffer loss but not perish. A young lad of twelve in my state was strolling along a street in his town when he overheard a cluster of other kids of about his age discussing schools and one actually stating that the eavesdropper’s school was a crappy place. Upset by this, the twelve year old kid walked across to the small crowd and asked the girl who had said this to repeat herself - and she did. Satisfied his hearing had not deceived him, he asked the girl to wait for him, ran off to his house which happened to be nearby and came back with a kitchen knife which he plunged hilt-deep into the girl’s chest right before the horrified eyes of the rest. The poor girl died instantly.
I had the unpleasant duty of prosecuting this case; even though up until my transfer to another zone, the argument before the state High Court was whether the kid at the time of the homicide was up to the age of criminal liability or not.

What would be your best guess about the matter? I'm guessing the innocent don't need choice like the rebellious would. If your spouse left you for another, it would be a sin to kidnap your spouse from whomever they went to. She would need to choose to come back. If ur toddler on the other hand wanders away from you, it's not like they are turning their back on you in any manner. You'd still scoop (kidnap) them up before they get hurt and it wouldn't be sin. The child is innocent of their wanderings while the spouse is unfaithful in theirs. Neither are protected from death, and yet only one can rebel. From my view, choice is important for it's purpose but we can't stretch choice beyond its purpose. There are so many things we don't put choice on a pedestal for, this issue could be just a natural.

    • @mustachemac5229

@@arcguardian Well unfortunately there isn't a particular scripture in the Bible that states: "this is the age of accountability." We can only infer or like you said "guess" what may be so.
I don't completely agree with the comparison in your story.
One of my nieces, when she was about 2-3, she could definitely understand me when I said "No" to her.
Plenty of instances when I would look her in the eye and say "No" and she would still make the choice to disobey.
How do we know when one should be held accountable for disobedience? It's a tough avenue to venture.

@@mustachemac5229 I had a slightly different take. I think Dr. Turek is tiptoeing around the problem of whether babies automatically go to heaven. He wants to say "yes", because of the modern interpretation of David's remark about his infant son, but it seems to me that he doesn't feel comfortable saying "babies go to heaven" because he knows that the consequence of that opinion is that it is better to kill babies then to risk having them lose their faith as adults.

God's will and our will work in conjunction with one another. God chooses us and we choose Him in return. It's a mutual exchange. His life for ours and our life for Him in return. The offer goes to all people to accept or reject by the free will He wills us to have. It's spelled out here perfectly in the proclamation of the birth of Christ. He is for "all people".

Hint: I'm an old guy who predates all this "technology". And y'all, that younger generation (I have two daughters, one 35, the other 25) are as comfortable with that stuff as I made positively miserable by it all.
And it is even the language. You said you had "written it down". The word "writing," for me, will always mean written, by hand, with pencil or pen, on a piece of paper. But I do understand that saying I am now "writing a response" is much easier and yes, every bit as accurate as "I am now inputting data into my computer in order to asnwer your comment". So there is truth but there is also being pendantic and...I avoid that rabbit hole the older I get.
But then again, you also belong to a generation that is allowed to ask questions...of a speaker...after he/she talks. See? That's me, asking another question: When did THAT start?
Oh, but you did indeed ask THE question that gets right to the heart of the matter and I think you knew that when you asked...which is, I think, why you asked it.
I've been having that little discussion since the mid-late '70s and I'm still waiting to find one person, other than me, who makes the distinction between "will" and "choice". One of those can indeed be "free". The other is not.

Age of accountability doesn’t refer to whether children have the capacity to sin. Lust may not be on a 2-year-old’s mind, but selfishness, anger, rebellion are certainly within the scope of their behavior. Age of accountability refers to their understanding of the sin they are committing and its consequences. My theory is that children who die before they come to the point of being capable of understanding morality and the gospel do go to heaven, however at the end of the millennial period they will be raised up alongside those who are awaiting the second death, and will be afforded the opportunity to grow to the point that they are mature enough to understand morality and the gospel which they will hear, and then it will be incumbent upon them at that time to make a decision so as to ultimately determine their fate.

Someone had asked why this scenario basically instead of everything just being perfect to begin with , maybe we wouldnt truly understand how wonderful things in a perfect state are and how much God loves us with out first seeing how awful things could be , man just destroys itsself and we see how much we need God to keep things in perfect order we can't do it ourselves I think the state of this world proves that.idk maybe I'm wrong just a thought. Kind of like kids don't appreciate and see how much their parents do and love them. Feed, clothed ,housed , loved take that away and that kid would have their world come crashing down and realise how much they need their parents. I know not all kids have that so I guess you could even say a child whos been with out and then getting that would appreciate it so much more . when I was a kid I had alot just handed to me then we hit financial issues when my dad left ,constantly worrying about money ,keeping the house having electric. I never truly apreciated those things til after and never realised how much I needed my mom and how much she did for us and loved us . I don't think Age of Accountability is a Biblical concept. In spite of the passage in Isaiah, which is geared toward the prophecy concerning Jesus (the verse before talks about the virgin birth of Immanuel), there is no other doctrine that indicates just because children do not know right from wrong that they are innocent of the wages of sin. It's pretty clear that the wages of sin is death, and that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (why would "all" mean "all....but not kids?").
    .
Even humans do this. The phrase "ignorance of the law is no excuse" means that if I speed and say, "But gee officer, I didn't know"....odds are I'm still getting a ticket. It also implies that if cognition between right and wrong is the prerequisite for guilt, then we should simply keep our children ignorant of God's law: then they would all be saved because they never knew right from wrong other than in some vague moral sense. They could just follow man's law and never worship God, trust in him, love him, or be found in anyway responsible for transgressing the 1st three commandments. I think that's pretty obviously dangerous theology.
    .
The problem when we try to put our human understanding on all of this is we think kids are innocent (anyone out there with kids can attest this isn't true!) and do not deserve punishment. Well....the Bible is clear: ALL HAVE SINNED. There is no one righteous: no not one. Why do we say "all" doesn't mean ALL? Why do we redefine "no one"? That's the bad news....
    .
The good news is Jesus reconciled THE WORLD unto himself, which also includes....children. Babies. The mentally retarded who may never "know right from wrong" regardless of how old they are. The Alzheimer's patient who forgets right from wrong. The person with garden variety dementia who forgets morality.
    .
What I believe is what the Bible teaches. #1 the Word of God never returns without fulfilling it's purpose. #2 babies are capable of responding to human voices, even in the womb (John the Baptist leaped in Elizabeth's womb) #3 God's grace is greater than man's limitations. Ergo, by hearing the word of God (even in utero), babies can encounter and respond to God's word and can be saved according to his good and gracious will. Not because of some age of accountability man tries to shoe-horn into scripture based on our faulty assumptions.
    .
If Age of accountability is a doctrine, then we have many, MANY unanswered questions vs. the blessed assurance of God's mercy and grace.

These videos are very insightful. Frank your content is generally very thought provoking.
I do wonder though why in the discussion of free will the reformed position of the bondage of the will is seldom put forward. Maybe it's because I haven't watched enough Videos, or I just see the Q+A so didn't get the whole talk.
Martin Luther(and Augustine before him) put forward the idea that the will is in bondage to sin. That is humanity's whole being, including the will, is in bondage to sin. I don't know the references off hand, but it is Biblical.
In addition to this people make choices based on desire. You choose left or right because you desire left or right more than the other. According to this position humans can't/won't choose God because they don't desire him. Im not sure if its can't/won't, either way the end result is humanity refusing to choose God in their sin.
Because of this in order to choose God the Holy Spirit has to be at work in you to regenerate you in order for you to choose God. That is God changes your desires. If God didn't give people a new heart then they would not ultimately choose him. God had to to choose those he would save according to the mercy he chose to give of his own accord. This is Scriptural under the doctrine of election.
I realise that Ihave way oversimplified this position, as well as not giving the Scriptires for it, mostly because I don't know them off hand.
Now my question is How does this position, which is backed by Scripture, fit into the idea of free will? Does free will even exist? Why do we not discuss God choosing when we discuss free will?

While consistency is a test for falsity in that if its inconsistent then its false, but just because its consistent, that doesnt make it true. Or put another way all truth is consistent, but just because something is consistent, that doesnt mean its true. Could it be Calvinism be simply consistent because its a simplistic cartoon answer to a topic we have little info about that takes a lot of research and study to get to the truth concerning?
Right but what does that answer imply? Where are the mechanics of how it works? We dont choose or have free will? Who's saying this, a nature, Gods decrees, or the self? God doesnt make love the point, the highest ethic and goal,? If in calvinism no one does anything because its their natures that do it based on their desires and God gives, the desires made to be there based on His decrees ie God is the efficient cause of evil actions He hates (wut??), how can anyone be held accountable if God and natures are the source and cause of actions, not individual selfs? How can you have such a thing as love and even responsibility without free will, in a world where prior internal wiring and external causes beyond the self ie God and His decrees are the source of actions? What does James 3 say is the efficient cause of actions/what causes the boat to move, the rudder of a ship/the material cause/the material concerning whats being caused, the manufacturer of the ships parts/God, or the captain/self? Could it be every verse concerning moral actions say its the self that is the cause of ones actions not ones nature and not God or His decrees, because free will is self evident and undeniable? Could it be you must cause your own action to ask if you have free will or not or even to deny you have free will? Could it be the only way one could conclude compatablism/determinism/all acts are caused by another is by assuming its true and reading it into the text while reinterpreting verses clearly speaking about free will in a determinism fashion? i can see why someone looking for mere consistency and or looking to avoid personal responsibility would lean towards this but why would someone seeking truth?
But if youre looking for a consistent answer could it be the consistent free will answer, at least one answer could be they choose in the afterlife because they didnt have the ability to choose beforehand? If all youre looking for is mere consistency then you should find this persuasive, but is it true? i dont know. i can see most clearly we have free will because its literally actually undeniable/self, something you cant get wrong because its necessarily implied even in denials of it, i can see less clearly in scripture but clearly enough theres an age of accountability because free will and awareness must be built up/developed to a point one is aware enough to be held accountable for their actions, those like David are encouraged their dead child will be in heaven and we can trust Gods judgment. But i believe all one can do is make informed inferences and educated guesses about how this works because its mechanics arent spelled out. i personally dont have an issue with this because im neither calvinist, molinist nor arminian, and dont see a violation with Him creating the world as a moral world to allow for the possibility of a genuinely reciprocated loving response and Him granting eternal life to those that couldnt choose in this life because their will wasn't violated due to how their awareness wasnt developed enough to be violated, He could have only allowed this to happen to those He knew would have chosen Him and or He gives a choice for them to select this in heaven similar to how the angels had it while being in His presence (as a few reasons). Maybe this is why He brings up their angels in heaven because they're like angels prior to the age of accountability, the reason there such strong and harsh condemnation about harming children? Aside from that it seems clear there's an age of accountability but how could there be such a thing in calvinism? If theyre "responsible" because they have corrupted natures, not because of secondary causes of evil choices, but its done in spite of their choices, what would it matter if they were 2, 7 or 46? Could it be calvin said it pleases God to condemn and doom people from the womb, even though they had not done anything good or bad? So i believe im confused on why calvinism could be persuasive to you if you believe in the age of accountability. i got the answer concerning them choosing in the afterlife partially from Turek in the book Chosen But Free, so was he unable to answer or he was just tired/fried by the end of the night? The age of accountability doctrine is created from a single verse which Frank Turek mentioned. It's never a good idea to create a doctrine from a single verse when the verse is unclear, or could have different meanings.
If I remember correctly, Frank Turek believes in the idea of an "inherited sin nature" which is a misunderstanding of Romans 5:12-14. This inherited sin nature doctrine means that we are punished for Adam's sin, not for the sin we commit. We are punished for who we are, not what we do. So, it follows that people who don't know right from wrong are sent to Hell because they are not being punished by their actions anyway.

And if so, why doesn't he do that to Lucifer instead of throwing him in the lake of fire? Or would that go against his nature seeing as how he is a God of life?

Allow me to give an interpretation. God knew us before the earth was formed and he knew who would accept him and who wouldn't. In God's wisdom he allows the wicked to live long lives, giving themselves maximum opportunities to repent. Then in the judgment they will know that they were given every opportunity, but obstinately chose their own way. Yet those children who died young, are already known of God to be His.
For the righteous, any moment can be their last on this earth, as God seeks to spare us from heartbreak to come.

Some interesting tidbits here, but the discussion on "free will" is horrible. Huge swaths of Scripture are glossed over which clearly teach that as fallen (pre-fall Adam and Eve had a morally free will) humans our moral will is now bound in sin...in fact we are dead in sin and by nature children of wrath (Eph. 2). Making true, uncoerced choices (which we do make according to what we desire) is NOT the same as a morally free will that will choose the highest good - God. This is why a person must be born again/regenerated by a Sovereign act of God the Holy Spirit in order to even see the kingdom of heaven (John 3). David said he was born in iniquity (Ps 51), for example. The whole "age of accountability" teaching doesn't square with the teaching of original sin inherited from our natural father Adam.

This makes God who Satan accuses Him of being: _evil._ It also means we have no free will to choose God for ourselves or not. And if we have no free will concerning whether we decide to believe in God or not and if we have no free will in whether we sin or not; then we are not to blame for the things we do, regardless of what we do. Definitely missing the point. We don't have free will because we have to choose God or do not choose God. We have free will because we are made in the image of God. The knowledge of good and evil allows us to exercise that free will to do either right or wrong. There are countless right choices we can make and countless wrong choices we can make with every discision.
Regardless....Those who die under the age of accountability go to Heaven due to the fact that sin is not attributed to them because Christ took their sins on Himself at the cross. In fact sin isn't attributed to anyone because of that fact.
When someone reaches the age of accountability what determines where they go when they die is whether or not they are reconciled to God. Reconciliation is through belief in the finished work of the cross. Those who believe are imputed the righteousness of Christ. Only those who are deemed righteous, through the blood of Jesus, will become part of the Body of Christ through faith....not of works. Those who are incapable of making that decision are already deemed righteous, but not of their own righteousness. No one will go to Heaven due to their own righteousness.
People do not understand that before Jesus died...everyone went to Hell. Those that were righteous in God's eyes went to a place in Hell called Abraham's Bosom which also was called Paradise by Jesus. When Jesus died and descended to Hell...it was to preach the message of His victory and redeem the righteous dead...taking Paradise out of Hell therefore enlarging Hell. He set the captives free for the righteous dead were still captives in Hell before Jesus's death and resurrection.
The example of David and his baby being in Heaven is false. They were both in Paradise in Hell. Now that Paradise is no longer in Hell...they are still there with all the Old Testament Saints awaiting the First Resurrection. The First Resurrection happens at the end of the Tribulation Period. The Rapture of the Body of Christ is not part of the First Resurrection. The Rapture was a mystery revealed to Paul and will take place before the start of the Tribulation Period.

Thinking out loud here as I heard a good sermon on this the other day, but I believe you could make the case that kids go to heaven because Jesus died for their sins. Jesus tasted death for “everyone.” Not everyone goes to heaven, but what if kids don’t have capacity to believe because they are too young? Why would they be punished ? I don’t think they would be and God could apply Jesus payment to their account. Now, once children reach the age of accountability(maybe some don’t because of mental issues), they KNOW right from wrong and THEIR sins ((not Adam’s) become countable against them. Our justice system doesn’t send a Juvenile to prison (in most situations) because we understand they are not fully culpable - kids are not held to the same accountability as adults in OUR justice system. So I think the Lord can show grace to these kids (and mentally handicap) because Jesus died for their sins(nature), but once they hit accountability, whatever age that is, or maybe they don’t because they are mentally handicap, they need to have made a decision to accept or reject the gift of eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Jesus in every situation gets all of the glory as He should!

Hi, hope you're doing well. The scriptures don't seem to give any direct answers as to what happens to children when they die (or rather anyone who are not capable of making accountable moral decisions), but I believe that based on God's character, purposes and methods described in his word, that no such person will be damned nor even be given eternal life with God without having the opportunity to consciously make that decision. There are potential hints as to what happens in the Bible, but they make a fairly weak case in and of themselves. However, the best possible conclusion that I've been able to come up with (and I'm not the first to think this), whether I'm right or wrong, is that people who die in an unaccountable state are raised to physical life during the 1000 year reign of Christ on earth and are then allowed to grow up to accountability and make a choice at that time. Here are some verses that come closest to approaching this subject:
(Luke 18:16) But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.
(Matthew 18:10) Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.
(2 Samuel 12:22-23) And he said, While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept: for I said, Who can tell whether GOD will be gracious to me, that the child may live? {23} But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.
(Zechariah 8:3-5) Thus saith the LORD; I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth; and the mountain of the LORD of hosts the holy mountain. {4} Thus saith the LORD of hosts; There shall yet old men and old women dwell in the streets of Jerusalem, and every man with his staff in his hand for very age. {5} And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in the streets thereof.
(Isaiah 65:20) There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days: for the child shall die an hundred years old; but the sinner being an hundred years old shall be accursed.

Free will doesn't mean independant of emotions and hormones. Your body is pushing you to one side, and your spirit is resisting. It has been designed this way as a way to test our true colors.
Resisting and building up our willpower is very important, and that is the reason the Bible says to fast regularly. You are going against your bodily needs, so you can better control them.
God knows it's very difficult for us to resist every time, he doesn't expect perfection from us. This is why we are saved by faith, and not by works. The works are just a proof that you believe, so you try your best to live according to Jesus' instructions out of belief.
This is the whole concept of confession. You confess the things you do wrongly even though you tried, and God forgives.
The world you are describing is probably going to be like that in heaven, where people will have bodies that don't age and no sexual needs, and there will be nothing tempting us to sin there.
So this is just a temporary way of life. We can still make the hard choice, but it is hard, and it is designed to be.

@@dimitrisleo What you stated is a lie. Cause in churches some sins are more accepted than others even if you excuse that the flesh led you to it. The people that live in sin according to christians, by driving one mile over the speed limit regulary are accepted but not those that are sexual deviant once in a while. Hypocracy?

@@dimitrisleo Nowhere in the bible is there summed up a hierarchy among sins yet religion make their own. The reason they do this is the lack of so called free will. This notion makes christians performance focused by "climbing" on others to feel their sin is not as bad as other sins. The cheerleading church members promote their rich egoistic pastor that fly around the world in their own jet, preaching love but do not live by it. I would rather se any sexual deviant person giving from the little they have instead of preaching anything at all. Do you agree?

David’s baby dies and David says “I will go to him, he will not come to me.” 2 Samuel 12: 23 ???
The problem is, King David’s baby didn’t go to heaven!...
Old Testament Jews, including King David, believed when they die the only go to the grave - Sheol! 1 Kings 2:1,2; Joshua 23:14; Deuteronomy 31:16; Psalm 6:5; Isaiah 38:18; Ecclesiastes 9:10; John 3:13; John 11:24

Why would anyone think the Christian god permits free will? There are myriad examples in the bible where he directly interferes with human affairs.

@Eric Drye, As a Christian all I can say is I’m on the fence. Some things in the Bible look like the person had free will to do what they want but in other scenarios it looks 100% predestined.

@@Mike00513 I think your honesty and open questioning is breath of fresh air on these forums. I think it’s hard to say we definitely have free will when it’s clear god does not allow free will in the Bible. To me, I think Frank is dishonest in asserting this.

@Eric Drye, Yes I think that too it’s hard tell if we have free will or if we are predestined. The love argument for free will looks compelling but just with some of the stories in the Bible alone it looks predestined. I don’t Frank Turek is being dishonest I think he just wholeheartedly believes we have free will.

@@guitarplyr327 What?? Almost every page of the Bible has an example of free will. If we dont have free will, then why are we told over and over and over again that in order to be saved, we must believe? If we cant freely believe, then why will God allow some to perish for a choice they couldnt make?? He wouldnt.

God did give everyone a chance to believe or not to believe His son Jesus died and saved us from our sins. So those who die before 7years old below they are not accountable. So above 7years old onward are accountable. That why our job as Christian need to share/spread the gospel.
    Good News
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16
Jesus said I am the resurrection and the life, he who believes in Me though he may die, he shall live. John 11:25
Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. John 14:6

This guys real statement is... “ I think it’s unfair that babies die and go to heaven but I have to suffer and choose God. “
His arguments against God is well hidden but he is just complaining about having to suffer the consequences of man’s sin.
