I currently work in Strategy & Corp Dev (M&A) at a large fortune ~160 tech company. Started in a Finance Leadership Development Program at a fortune ~30 tech company (an underrated path out of undergrad in my opinion). Just wanted to share to provide a small anecdote for everyone watching, and supplement your notion that MBB may be the best way but it’s not the only way! Love the videos, Matt!
Great video Matt! I have the same mentality as you and was about to land an Enterprise AE role at Gartner last week and after 5 interviews they cut the funding to the BU and I declined their reduced OTE offer… I kept consistent and already landed another opportunity with Hubspot tomorrow. Trust the process and you will succeed.
Matt , i love your videos , you are a really articulate person , can i request you to start a mentorship program , where you can guide people how to get into management consulting regardless of their background and what skills would a person need . Thank you.
Yea, when I made it to the final round with Apple, and it being the first job opportunity I interviewed for, I was crushed for a bit when I didn’t get the offer, but I didn’t quit! I just landed a role with Bank Of America for their Global Operations Military Development Program. I watched your videos a lot and they helped me tremendously. I’d love to connect with you cause strategy & ops at a tech company is my ultimate goal. I hope we’ll be able to speak in the future.
Awesome & insightful video (as per usual)! I’m about to apply for a Strategy & Ops role at Google in NYC - sounds like it’s for the Ad Sales team. I’m coming in from Big 4 consulting w a heavy project background in tech strategy. If you have any advice would be much appreciated 🙌
In most cases you’ll get paid more on an absolute basis if you stay in consulting. Corp strategy has better hours (higher pay per hour worked) and if you get stock there’s potentially a higher long term upside. Also, some ppl get sick of constantly jumping around topics in consulting, so in corp strategy you get to go super deep on one area and see the long term impact of your work. Hope this helps!
Great video as always, Matt! Btw, may I know what your college major was? Also, can you make a video on the best college majors + minors for people who are looking to get into management consulting? It'd be really helpful since I've taken business management as my major and I'm thinking of minoring in finance but I'm not a 100% sure yet.
If my goal is to work in Big Tech strategy, what are your thoughts on working in an internal consulting/strategy role at a Fintech company (Mastercard/Visa/Capital One/etc.) right out of undergrad? Obviously exits won't be as strong as working in MBB, but do you think it'd still be a strong stepping stone and a viable option? Would love to hear your thoughts, thanks Matt and great video as always!
I am doing my masters in data science now. My dream is to become a management consultant. What kind of jobs should I target to become a management consultant? Please reply.

Agree that there's definitely more than 1 path, and it's not just consulting or bust - thanks for sharing Clay!

Congrats! I’ve heard Gartner does a lot of internal promotes, so big ups to you for getting in externally

Hey Matt, great video. Is there any advantage for corporate strategy compared to mbb consulting?? Is the pay/hours better?

I majored in finance!

Definitely still a good option
Are you using a teleprompter? IF so what model?
Youve got blue glare on the glasses, so confused what it is haha
No teleprompter haha, I have blue light blocking lenses and the light from my laptop reflects off them
