He would have been another Donavan or a generic folk musician if he hadn’t changed and changed and got a hit with Space Oddity. But the real fame came from the outfits and earrings and makeup. But that too would be a forgotten flash in the pan if not for his TALENT, TASTE, AND SKILL. He is one of a million and his face must have some kind of glow, if you know those lyrics from Station to Station.

Thanks ! yes i love Low and i'm a fan since 1972 and my first album was Aladdin Sane i did buy in 1973 oohh Diamond Dogs is one of my fave albums ever...but i love almost everything but the 1980's was a lowpoint for me "Tonight" was his most bad record ever... but the 1990's did bring us Outside etc and i saw him i think 30 times live in all those years....
You saw him live a lot more than I did, only twice for me. The first time I was 3rd row and my palms of my hands were black and blue (bruises) from clapping so hard. I stood up on my chair too. Then Iggy Pop vomited right next to me after the concert and he spent the night with my friend. Deborah Harry from Blondie stood 2 feet away from me at the hotel they were staying at. I was trying to meet Bowie. I started listening to his records in about 1972 too. That first concert was about 1975 or 1976. Next time I saw him was in the early 2000’s around ‘04 I think. He was healthy, happy, wearing the younger blonde look with a simple short sleeve T-shirt. He entered my life during junior high school at about the age of 12. He was about 11-12 years older than me. I never realized he was a single father during all the Ziggy Stardust and Aladdin Sane era. I LOVED Hunky Dory, Diamond Dogs, several others and then Low became my favorite. I liked the “Thin White Duke” years for some of the music and the clothes, even though most people don’t seem to like that part of his life. The song Heroes can make me cry and dance at the same time. I love how he morphed the lyrics to that over the years. The only song I don’t like is “Let’s Dance” and there’s a video going around with a black guy with dreads who tells us how he wrote that song with Bowie. He was sitting there when Bowie sang the lyrics to it in the same happy little ditty style like his early folk sound and the man whose name I can’t recall said basically, no, no, no, if we have a song about dancing we want everyone on the dance floor and he completely altered it. He also helped write “Little China Girl” he says anyway. You’ve probably seen these clips. I think China Girl really is referring to China White Heroin even though Bowie didn’t love that drug Iggy certainly did. I know the video doesn’t portray that message but I still think so. I’m liking the Cactus song right now and how hard he rocked the “I’m Afraid of Americans” when he did it live although at some of the shows the distortion is too amped up by the guitarist. He had so much style. Such great songs. Love Bowie and finding his fellow fans here on You Tube. Thanks.

She kept her end of the bargain by saying she’d never take their son from him, but he cut her off. Quite an acrimonious divorce & very sad when children get used as a weapon. You’re referring to Nile Rodgers. He didn’t write “China Girl” which has nothing to do with heroin. It was co-written by Iggy Pop & Bowie, 1st on Iggy’s album “The Idiot” (brilliant album). He wrote the whole 1st two Roxy albums, all his first attempt songs were used, as his introduction to the World Of Music making, stepping up and forming a band, after teaching Art for a while since College. Bowie loved what those guys were doing (saying GLAM was only ever him, "Roxy & T.Rex for 18 months"). David was trying all sort to breakthrough for ages until he lucked upon Mick Ronson... THANK God he did. Best years of Rock ever. But for perfection consider Roxy Music's rise and what they brought!

One reason why it wasn't greatly covered would be that it wasn't ever published as a genuine track, this is the only existing format from Bowie - A 4- track home recorded demo with unbalanced inputs. Another good reason is that others would've made it sound like sh**, as this track needs the vocal authenticity from it's creator to carry the lyrics. Besides, you could count this track as a predecessor to shadow Man that came out some ten years later with great success. I find this to be a true gem, a masterpiece in waiting that just never happened. It still waits for someone to do a fresh sharp recording.

I think its that he says that his older songs were so underrated and if they were made by anyone else, they would be trash.
