Kayte is a really great communicator on camera - so smooth and engaging and fun. Enjoyed her effortlessly natural back-and-forth with Adam. You should have her on Tested more often!
YES!!!! I LOVED this episode and I’m AMAZED that it was actually Tippet and not just an homage. Getting to hear Kayte discuss the making of the puppets is inspiring. THANK YOU!!!!
Phil really has an unparalleled imagination for character design! And it was lovely to see Kayte on the channel describing the labor of love that went into these creations.
Im so glad that Stop Motion, actual physical SMA is still a thing and hasnt been taken over with CGI yet. Its great that all those skills and years of development are still being passed on. Im a closet Roy Harryhausen fan and Im so stoked I actually got to meet him once after an animation lecture he did in my home town, and he smiled when I asked him to sign a postcard of the fossilised miniature horse that was on display in Leicester at the time (borrowed from Germany). His miniature horse in 'Valley of Gwangi' has always remained in me. He had a great skill of adding personality to his characters (even to his flying saucers!). I just wish it was easier to find computer software for animation from multiple photos outside the proffesional budget.
I know I am miss spelling her name but Jane Sabicire was a demonstration of how much I lack. She is smarter, quicker, a better and faster hand than I have ever had. What was produced for the show was great. Thank you.
Rockford Files, Columbo, Baretta and Darren McGavin/ Nightstalker were SOOOO important to my adolescence. Def a HUGE happy place - I really wanted to be a PI as a kid... that or a Vampire 😅
I was watching this episode thinking I wonder if Adam Savage has seen it. I figured it was based on someone real I just didn't know who. Great show and while I may not be as old as you i really enjoyed how it harkens back to old detective shows. This episode I kept pausing looking around at all the interesting things in the workshop so I'm happy you were able to look at and show us things in more detail. Thank you
Its great to see the work of masters of their craft, and also get so much insight into their process. I am certain that their work will inspire future animators, I am an aspiring animator and this has me SO excited to watch them come to life on screen! Thanks for making the video, I am certain this channel inspires many young artists as well.
It was a delightful episode of a truly fun show. I am so happy Phil is getting so much deserved attention! Paul Verhoven is completely right: Phil Tippet is a genius. And a delight.
I wanted to share this quote by recently passed designer Milton Glaser and I thought of your comments section for videos. Keep making "YOU FEEL DIFFERENTLY TOWARDS THE WORLD WHEN YOU MAKE THINGS"
Oh I think I recognize that Phicen body lol. It's wild to me that the latest development craze in action figures is silicon seamless bodies with a metal understructure. Just casual 80 year old technique is the new hotness.
It's great to see the enthusiasm amongst fellow makers. I could sit and talk to you guys for days! I've made quite a few prop replicas in my time, but seeing the way others work is always food for thought.
I'm glad he mentioned God so I could. a long time ago his channel did an episode on the workshop of the creator of Mad God. I had no idea what it was all about, but after seeing the work he was doing I didn't care what it was all about. his work was amazing. I had forgotten about the project until a yt thumbnail reminded me. I just watched it and I was not disappointed. just the opposite. it was so much more than expected. the inclusion of love action seemed to make it even creepier. that amount of work put into this project must have been mind numbing. thank you for an unforgettable movie experience and thanks to Tested for being the ones to introduce his work to me.
Cerberus has some very Dante's Inferno vibes about it. And like meets Japanese tokusatsu monster? I love it, I assumed the mouth splitting was an intentional Glasgow look. It adds to the j-horror vibes for me.
I loved pokerface as a whole but this was the standout episode to me already being in love with the world of puppetry and practical animation so you KNOW i clicked so fast when i saw this release
The part about mailing stop motion animation stuff being nerve wracking reminds me of the video Captain Disillusion did on the special effects for Flight of the Navigator where he got his hands on one of the stop motion space ships used for the door opening/stairs forming sequence (from the look of it, it wasn't a cheap prop to get hold of either, the auction is still possible to find with the prices and stuff) and the thing that was missing was the armature that went in under the stairs to hold them up in position to make them appear to hover from the right angle, so he worked with another creator who specialised in 3D printing to make the armature, sending some of the stairs from the original prop to him to use to design, build and test the print... and when he went to mail them back, the irreplaceable 30+ year old prop pieces vanished into the aether en route
Absolutely devastating. I collect dolls that are many times limited edition and from retired artists and I've reached the point where I'm learning to paint them myself because I refuse to mail them to anyone for fear of them getting lost in transit.
I love how smiley you look in this segment! Reminds me of, “ don’t you just hate it when your cheeks from smiling too much?” I love it and it’s nice to see your smiley face! Gratitude
You had me at Natasha Leone, I think out of all my friends I was the only guy that crushed on her in American Pie over all the other chicks in that movie, and defo still kinda do.
I know you don't do mythbusters anymore, but I want to know is "when you are trying to find your destination is easier to split up or stay in a group?"
You guys will have to forgive me. Cerberus being Greek and Greek has no obvious 'c' but a hard 'k', so it would be more phonetically, Kerb-erus. Very hard K sound. I know, pedantry, but.... the pronunciation was bugging me.

I watch her "favorite things" every year! Love Kayte!

Always a treat to spend time with Kayte
Dude, Adam could make such a kickass cosplay of that cyclops. That'd be a killer incognito
Rockford Files, Columbo, Baretta and Darren McGavin/ Nightstalker were SOOOO important to my adolescence. Def a HUGE happy place - I really wanted to be a PI as a kid... that or a Vampire 😅
There are vampire detectives out there, so there might be a job opening. 😎 Good taste in TV series!
@@joanhoffman3702 Yeah! You're right - I totally forgot about Forever Knight - I was ahead of my time 😉
My favorite character in Rockford Files episodes was Lance White (Tom Selleck). His episodes were hysterical.
Phil is one of the best. That blends design and execution in formatted formats❤

The whole thing felt very inspired by ILM
Thank you, Adam! I appreciate you for your enthusiasm and for all that you do.
Even though I'm only 32 I loved the Rockford files..my 2 favorite characters were angel and Jim's father lol love it

Right?!
Born in the late 60s: check. Grown up with the Rockford files: check ... and also Quincy, Kojak, Petrocelli, Matlock and of course Columbo...
Mr. Adam, i owe you a big "thank you!" I would of never known about this series. Truly a master piece, just like you! you are a treasure . thank you !
I really enjoyed Poker Face, Natasha is just magical!
I wanted to share this quote by recently passed designer Milton Glaser and I thought of your comments section for videos. Keep making "YOU FEEL DIFFERENTLY TOWARDS THE WORLD WHEN YOU MAKE THINGS"
As soon as you said Rockford files, I had the music in my head. I haven’t heard it in at least 35 years but I remember it note perfect.
Ditto. I bought it on a 45!
Hooray Kayte! Miss her from the COVID days.
Scary monster in the thumbnail. That thing Adam is holding is scary too...
She has good style! Shes very intelligent & easy going
I assumed that this character was based on Phil Tippett when I watched the show. Nice touch.
The Rockford Files also had a brilliant theme tune. We had it in the UK too.
Kayte is awesome and the puppets are fantastic! Great work everyone!
Learned about "flashing" today. Good stuff.
Key marking seems like an art in itself

Would be beautyful an interview with Maestro Phil Tippet!
I love these puppet videos! Theyre so magical!
Can't wait for mad god to become widely available over here
Adam, this artist is phenomenal! I do not have a clue about the show pokerface, but you have peaked my interest with your intro!!
Kayte is awesome.
I loved pokerface as a whole but this was the standout episode to me already being in love with the world of puppetry and practical animation so you KNOW i clicked so fast when i saw this release
OMG, she is just adorable. You can tell she is someone who gets so much jot and fulfillment from her craft!

That's a Bell & Howell 2709 on CameraHead, not a Mitchell Standard. Mitchell viewfinder, though. Such beautiful, beautiful work.
The mitchell camera looks like the one that was made for The Aviator at New Deal Studios.
Adam, you must find a "voyages" omni. They're the coolest!🌎
You had me at Natasha Leone, I think out of all my friends I was the only guy that crushed on her in American Pie over all the other chicks in that movie, and defo still kinda do.
Awesome Adam sir
This so amazing! I would love to know where you got that Mitchell camera??!!
I love stop motion! It's great to see information about this universe here. Thanks! from Brazil!
Thanks for another fun and interesting video.
Does anyone know where the pre-made and skinned stop-motion puppets that Kayte mentions was used for the cameraman can be found for purchase?
For closeups Phil Tippet stood in for Nick Nolte, so his "meat hands" are in the show
I know you don't do mythbusters anymore, but I want to know is "when you are trying to find your destination is easier to split up or stay in a group?"
Fantastic video
Is it only a single stop motion episode or are these puppets used through the whole series in Poker Face?
Thats awsome
Too bad you didn't show the bust of Tim Russ. I'd have liked to learn about that prop as well as what was covered... 😊
I sometimes wonder what these creature designers' dreams must be like.
At least in my case, usually pretty tame. When you have a clear outlet for your darker inspiration, it doesn't tend to bother your rest much.
8:28 Seymour? How dare you... Audrey 2. Ha
WHO makes those off-the-shelf puppets and where can I find them, please?
it looks like Child's Mbwan from Relic with three human heads. I wonder which came first and if one inspired the other.
is that one head steven tyler?
Am I missing an eyebrow? If you know, your a real one.
What about 'The Six Million Dollar Man' ?
How would I find their film work?
Neat.
Is it me or does anyone else see a resemblance between Cerebus's right head and John Travolta?
a 7yo Rockford Files fan? I was 6yo and only up to Little House on the Prairie and Happy Days.
Have you seen the UA-cam channel hacksmith.
she's beautiful
I grew up with Quincy Barney miller wkrp and columbo
What number episode of poker face is it
Season 1, Episode 8: The Orpheus Syndrome. Fun fact: Natasha Lyonne directed this episode of the season.

Ryan j ruined Star Wars
"the last jedi" and the term "amazing" should never be used in the same sentence. it was alright at best. the spin off movies are better.
No , the last jedi is amazing, and better than all the other movies from disney . Exept Andor , but that's a Tv show .
Rian Johnson helped ruin Star Wars. He can GTFO.
