The 10-18mm f4 OSS is the killer app of Sony wide-angle lenses. So good I just ordered a pristine used second copy from my favorite source in Japan. The Viltrox 16mm f1.8 ain't too shabby either.

      Hi Jason,
I am new to professional videography and I am considering de ZV-E10 with a Sony 18-105 mm lens for versatile videography. My field is clinical/medical treatment videography, product photo/videography and branding within the same sector. What would you recommend?
I was considering de Sony 11mm as a wide-angle and the perhaps a 18-50 for portret with more aperture depth. But I am getting overwhelmed by al the info and diversity. What do you suggest would be my best basic kit set + lenses with the ZV-E10?
As well as investing in a good gimbal for stability and flexibility on the job and lights + reflecting screen set-up?
Thank you for making these great and easy-to-use video's!! Keep up the great work!

I am wondering why lens reviewers never try to shoot handheld video during review. Non-native lenses work not as good with active stabilization as native. And camera resolution also matters, if you have 24+ mpix sensor you can use prime in aps-c mode, if 12 mpix then use zoom.

Great comparison! I'm however stuck between the Sigma 17mm and the Samyang 18mm. For video, which lens performs better in low light with less hunting and keeping focus? Do you think the MFD in favor of the Sigma 17mm gives it a much better chance of keeping things in focus while vlogging in low light?

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  Рік тому

That will certainly work. If you can only get one lens I would go for the 16-35mm for the versatility. I do prefer the faster f/1.8 aperture on the 20mm for vlogging type stuff, but you might need more than 20mm at times.... The kit lens will also work if you have that as well.

I would go with the 11mm f/1.8 lens for the a6700 👍 Unless you plan on going full frame in the future or if you have other cameras, then it might make more sense to invest in full frame glass, but otherwise I would stick with APS-C lenses for the ofter much lower cost, smaller size, and less weight...

Focusing pulsing is very annoying and I honestly don't no what causes it. I have seen it happen to me only a few times over the years and it appears to be when it looses facial tracking or something like that. If possible in those scenarios I would change the focus area to a smaller area to see if that helps. Worst case you switch the camera to manual focus or stop down the lens to like f/4 for example to see if that helps also. You can also try changing the focus sensitivity a bit more towards locked on as apposed to responsive...

The zoom lenses are more versatile though and offer the power zoom feature which is also awesome! Hard to say which is best, but I would go with the 11mm for vlogging while talking to the camera... If you plan on turning the camera around to show off stuff when talking then the 10-20mm powerzoom might be a better way to go.

Sony FE 16-35mm f/4 ZA OSS:
    Плюсы:
Гибкость за счёт зума, профессиональное качество Zeiss.
    Оптическая стабилизация изображения.

Sony 10-18mm is not on the list.
That's the best wide angle for vlogging.

Well that is for crop factor cameras, but yeah it will work above 15mm @ f/4 which makes it a good lighter weight, more affordable option for some. Thanks for sharing, Jay

@@Jason_Hermannby using this lens with the ZV E1, the lens has to be between 12-13mm with DAS on to avoid any vignetting. This gives the widest possible view currently available. And lightest in the same time.
The 11mm Sony prime will show vignetting so you have to take care of that in the post.

Great points, but I only wanted lenses that are fully compatible on the list encase people want to use a gimbal with no digital stab cropping like the footage I illustrated towards the end of this video using the 16-35mm lens... The 10-18mm is like a hackers trick which is fantastic if you own the lens and are aware of the limitations, but for a new user it's hard for me to recommend due to the limitations. I will add it to the list with a "limited" warning... Thanks again for the sharing all the info... Jay

By the time you account for FE vs E, 10-18mm is really only a 15-27mm Full Frame
