The Sony FE 14mm F1.8 could have been a perfect choice (if you really need a fast lens) and is a very sharp lens. Not as cheap as the Rokinon but definitely worth the price)
This guy really isn't the sharpest of the bunch to not even have found it .....
I'm a professional real estate photographer and videographer. The best lens I've used for this is the laowa 15mm f2. It's super sharp, well made, small, no real distortion, and it accepts polarizing filters which is HUGE for eliminating unwanted reflections and deepening blue skies. I use the Sony A74 for photos. For video, set it at f8ish and everything is in focus. I use the A7sIII for video so f8 works well even for dark interiors at ISO 12800. AF lenses are terrible for shooting real estate video/photos because you can't use AF to shoot brackets, and for video, you don't want your focus jumping around either. AF is really not needed for a lens this wide. The laowa is also very affordable at roughly $650 currently.
I've used the Sony 12-24mm f/4 on 1000+ shoots for NYC real estate... What drives me INSANE is the blue/green vignette on the widest focal length (shot at f/8). I have a "Warm Vignette" preset whenever I edit to combat this issue. I've used multiple versions of this lens and they all have it.
The Sony f/2.8 does not have this issue.
I sold the f4, just didn't like it. Too much distortion and just didn't like the "character" of the lens

Since he never address’s the Sony 14mm, I bet that Rokinon paid for this video. Why else would he spend $5,000 on Sony lens and forgot about and/or neglect to find the Sony 14mm while shopping on B&H, another of his sponsors I would imagine.

The best cheaper options are the 14mm GM and 14-24mm Sigma Art if you're okay with 14mm instead of 12mm.

I love the value Rokinon provides. I've never used the 14mm but I love my 18mm 2.8 for vlogging and astro on my A7C.

Why not the Sony 14mm 1.8 GM? No, you don’t need the 1.8 for this use case, but it is as sharp or sharper than the 12-24 GM. Again, that probably does not matter for video, but it does for stills.
I get my Sony 12-24 f4 tomorrow. I can pay for it with about 3 real estate sessions. After that, I can take some amazing landscape and architecture shots!
Used to have these lenses but at the end, I fell love on my 14GM these days.
Similar story here. I’ve used nearly every wide zoom or prime for Sony and the 14mm GM is the king for interiors IMO.

for $300 you would get 16mm f2.8 on canon rf. with the canon r8 and the lens all under $1800 its an unbeatable combo for videos.
I have the manual focus Rokinnon 14mm f2.8 and its dirt cheap and does exactly what it is supposed to do, take great wide photos. Its not perfect but I paid $190 USD for it used so can not complain about the price for a focal length I absolutely never use.

You should look into Laowa lenses. Only manual, but very wide and low distortion.
Sigma has an aamzing 14 mm, and another amazing 14-28 mm

Sigma 14-24 2.8. It is a bit on the biggish side and front filters are a bit cumbersome but it also offers back element filters and it wont break the bank. I own one and like it very much.
Great value for money. Rendering is also very pleasing, and it's very sharp too!
Yeah I use this lens everyday for my real estate shoots it's honestly the best price to quality ratio out there
No complaints with mine so far. My Nikon 14-24 F is now surplus. And remember how highly thought of that one was when it came out.

The Rokinon AF 14mm f/2.8 has been on the market for an eternity, and the entire time, the stubborn folks at the Rokinon/Samyang empire have completely ignored customers pointing out that this lens has a fatal flaw (and it still matters at that focal length): it absolutely fails to communicate metadata for SteadyShot to work. So, every damn time you mount the Rokinon, you have to disable auto mode, and manually enter 14mm as the focal length...and then, you have to remember (but will probably forget) to change back to auto so that it doesn't mess up all subsequent shots/footage.

The Sony 12-24 GM 2.8 is due for an update, this lens still don't have the aperture ring.
Sigma makes an amazing 14-24 for e-mount
Your conclusion makes sense for your use case, which is basically real estate stills and videos. But there are much more optically demanding use case scenarios, such as landscape and night sky, where the more expensive 12-24GM will clearly be the better option of these 3.
Most landscape shooters shoot at f/8 though. Seems like a cheaper lens can accomplish that easy. The low light stuff I agree. -P

That lens just seemed like a super wacky lens that I wouldn't use for interiors. And ya, lack of AF.

I sold my 12-24mm because while on vacation just using it as an all purpose lens it was very odd for us to ask someone to take a photo of us with that lens.
It's so wide that it confuses people like it's so wide I feel like your feet are in the frame as the photographer. I almost always shot the lens at 24mm. I get that some people need ultra wide, but the 16-35mm for me is king.
I was very happy with interior shots I did with the SONY FE 14MM F1.8 G MASTER lens. Just looked it up, the price also went down on it.
I'm truly impressed that 500$ Rokinon is just as good as 3000$ Sony
I was just searching for Sony lens videos and yours happened to pop up on my sub feed exactly when I need it!! I've been using a Sony cam and Sony lens for my channel and I am looking for a vlog friendly ultra wide angle lens, it seems like many are recommanding the 10-22mm f/4 PZ G lens and the 11mm f/1.8 lens as its cheaper alternative. Watching your video now gave me a better understanding of what I need to consider and go for. Thanks and sending love from China.
All of these lenses are pretty gigantic and I'm not sure they would be good for vlogging. Remember, these are full frame lenses for full frame cameras. If you have a crop sensor sony camera you can get much smaller lenses for vlogging.
Not sure it falls under ultra wide but I use the 20mm 1.8 for vlogging and it's almost perfect.
Sigma 14mm 1.4 just came out!! Bummer it wasn't out for this video.
samyang/rokinon has been making the BEST wide angle lenses for years now. I have a laowa zero d as my main ultra wide these days, but Ive owned the 12mm f2 and the 14mm 2.8 in the past and loved them
I've wanted an ultrawide for a while, but man, add to this the currency difference and these prices are insane in Australia

I'm confused about you being surprised that the prices are so different. The price difference between the Sony f/2.8 and f/4 lenses is very typical. We usually see that with 70-200mm f/2.8 vs f/4 options, and sometimes with 24-70mm f/2.8 vs f/4 options. We expect the quality of the f/2.8 lens to be better, in addition to the extra stop of light at the maximum aperture, so people generally know that they can either pay more for a 9/10 lens or save a bit with an 8/10 lens.
That the Rokinon is 1/3 the price of the f/4 zoom is completely expected: a third party lens (and not Sigma or Tamron, but Rokinon), a prime instead of a zoom, and 14mm instead of the zoom going to 12mm.
All three of these lenses cost like nothing compared to the yacht though.
You could probably buy a single pillow on a bed on that boat for the price of one of these lenses
Why is no one comparing the Sony E 11mm f1.8 against the Sony FE 14mm GM f1.8, especially on full frame bodies? That little Sony E 11mm f1.8 would be the equivalent of a 16.5mm on a full frame body, but it’s still f1.8 and less than half the price as the Sony FE 14mm GM f1.8 lens. Not one video on UA-cam comparing these two lenses against each other.

The complete disregard for all the other full-frame wide angle options on E mount is astounding. There was a lot of explanation on why he needed an ultra-wide angle, but none on the topic of why he excluded so many options in this roundup.
Great review it does help a lot to many of us that the money it’s not always the solution to get great results but I have to ask this:
if you are making professional videos and making money with it why don’t you use cine lens instead, or doesn’t make any real difference for certain types of videos that are not movies?
We prefer the autofocus on Sony lenses. Pulling focus is much harder and often requires two people. -P

I was shocked at how close the two Sony 12-24mm lenses performed, given the price points. With the Rokinon, I'm not surprised by it's performance because they had to make trade offs to keep the price down. Your needs were specific so I understand the 12-24.
For me the Sigma 14-24mm F2.8 for interiors, establishing shots inside of a huge venue and most other wide angle needs and the Sony 14mm F1.8 for astrophotography, specifically. I have had several opportunities to buy the Sony 12-24mm F4 and declined them. The Sigma Art is a fantastic lens.
The Sony 12-24mm f2.8 at it's current price isn't $1600 better than the Sigma. The Sigma gives me that variation and the Sony at F1.8 is a killer lens that is both light weight and has outstanding image quality. Both of these would still be cheaper than the Sony 12-24mm F2.8.
The rokinon/samyang 14mm is one of its oldest lenses, so the AF is weakest. Its due for an update i believe.
Sigma 14-24mm f2.8 for Sony full frame mount is an outstanding lens. Check it out as an alternative.

I’ll echo what others have said - check out the Sigma 14-24. I bought one used for $850 along with a set of rear ND filters for $100. For under $1,000, it performs as good as the GM.

12mm laowa is a rectilinear ultra wide, it is a favorite of many real estate shooters.
Ya saw that one but didn’t buy because it was manual focus. It’s just too slow for a video shoot.
@@FStoppers that's nonsense. The manual lens at that wide of focal length you set it to near infinity and forget it. Everything will be in focus and no concern at all about missing focus at critical times.
I use Sony E 10-18mm on FF, and it is cheap & sharp at f11
Oh boy, auto focus, yes, I use a 2000 era Canon lens on my Sony camera (paid $1500 for it back in the day, equivalent to $2700 today) and it is terrible at video, but meets all my needs for stills. The weight with adapter is obnoxious. So I would not hesitate to spend $3k for a lens that is 2.8, light weight, and needs no adapter, and does both video and stills. Remember, you will own this for 20 years, as I do my Canon lens.
You should also consider the weight of the lenses. Because if you plan to use them with a gimbal for video, then I think several gimbals will start running into issues with the additional weight and torque because of the length of the 12-14 f 2.8.
The sigma 14-24 would be good to throw in as it has excellent reviews for emount
Not a fan of ultra-wide either. That said, one of the best lenses I own in terms of image quality is a Rokinon 50mm cinema prime. My 24-105mm RF lens is sharp, but that cheap-ass Rokinon is just a touch sharper, with less dispersion at the edges, though that's probably down to the fact it's a prime and my kit lens is a zoom.
You missed the best Sony wide. The 14 mm f1.8 is amazing.
Sigma 14-24mm f2.8 DG DN Art is another option
Sigma's 17f4 is pretty solid, image quality'wise.

@@FStoppers I've looked at the Rokinon lens on b&h probably 10 times. Right now I have the Rokinon 8mm f/3.5 its crop sensor and at 3.5 its not sharp at all.

Are you "testing" 12s or 14s?? If you're testing 14s then the Sigma 14-24 should be there for price. 14s are certainly not 12s, even Nikon is terrified of producing a 12mm in any form. This video reminds me of a search for 5K monitors I'm doing. You tube offers lots of comparisons but they usually end up muddying the water with 4K monitors mixed in. Really bad video.
This just reminds me how overpriced canon RF lenses are 🙄 the minuscule difference does not merit the astronomical price difference. I have a Samyang lens that is $600 and it’s the best lens out of all the more expensive lenses I have tried and used. 🤷🏼

I explain in the video that I wanted a 12mm lens and I didn't need a fast lens and I only got the Rokinon because it was so cheap.

Nonsense. With wide angle shots at this level, you don't have any subject you need to get close to! These lenses are needed to capture the background and not yet again stopid humans. This is not a portrait lens. This channel is full with commercials and affiliation, and zero clue what they are talking about. Dismissed.
