  • In this video, I cover the famous Montreal UFO sighting of 1990.
Here is a link to an excellent video on this case by UA-camr Lelo:
    • The Mystery of the Mon...
This is one of Canada's most well known sightings and I wanted to cover it on my channel for those who may not have heard of it.
On November 7, 1990 a guest in the rooftop pool of Bonaventure Hotel saw a UFO in the sky above the pool. This guest quickly notified lifeguard Line St.-Pierre. who would later produce a sketch of the craft. Line St.-Pierre notified the hotel security officer, who also saw the UFO. She also notified a local newspaper called La Presse.
Around the same time, about 1 km away, 2 more men saw a strange light in the sky above downtown Montreal.
Back at the hotel, security officer notified the Montreal Urban Community Police and attempted to make contact with the Dorval Airport (the line was busy).
After La Presse newspaper was notified by Line St.-Pierre, they sent journalist Marcel Laroche to the hotel. He saw the UFO as well, and he took pictures of the object with his personal camera. His pictures (although relatively unclear) would become key evidence in this case.
Another reporter at La Presse, Jules Belliveau, investigated the object at the hotel and confirmed the presence of the UFO.
Francois Lippe was the first police office on scene. he saw the object as well, and then notified his superior officer - Sergeant Robert Masson. Mason arrived on scene and clearly saw the UFO. he then notified the RCMP, who sent investigator Luc Morin to the hotel - he confirmed the presence of the object as well.
The police on scene contacted the Dorval Airport, the Mirabel Airport, and the St. Hubert military base, and they all claimed that they were not picking up any unusual activity over downtown Montreal.
Some people thought that floodlights at a construction site across the street from the hotel could be reflecting off clouds and causing this sighting. But the UFO remained in the sky after police ordered the construction lights to be turned off.
Cloud cover increased in the area over time, and by 10:15 PM the UFO could no longer be seen. At this point, the police and reporters left thew hotel.
Newspaper articles following the sighting caused widespread interest across Canada. In an article published by La Presse, the RCMP made a statement confirming the legitimacy of the event.
One of the 2 men who saw a the strange light over downtown Montreal about 1 km away from the hotel on the night of the sightings was named Bernard Guenette. He was a ufologist who was involved with MUFON, and following the sightings he collaborated with American ufologist (and NASA psychologist) Richard F. Haines to publish a report in spring of 1992 entitled "Details Surrounding a Large Stationary Aerial Object Over Above Montreal". In this paper Haines asserts that there was undoubtedly a large. dense object hovering over the hotel that night - although some people have questioned the conclusions he drew based on his photo analysis.
In 2008, Belgian ufologist Wim Van Utrecht posited that these sightings could have been caused by a rare optical phenomenon known as light pillars, although some disagree with this idea.
At any rate, this event became known as one of Canada's most well-known UFO sighting. It was commemorated with a $20 silver coin produced by the Royal Canadian mint in 2021 as part of their Canadian unexplained phenomena series.
I hope you found this one interesting and informative, and if you'd like to watch more of my content in general please consider subscribing to my channel - I upload at least one new video per week.

Great story. I remember that the only helicopter had to remain available as it was the Oka crisis at this time. The French balado captive has recently covered this case. I live near Bonnaventure hotel and visited it with my children this summer. I told them the story while we were in the pool.

Great story. Thanks so much for sharing. I'm a bit of an enthusiast of the UFO phenomenon, so I always enjoy learning new things about it. The Canadian angle makes it interesting as well. 🙂

The first one, Shag Harbor, is one of very few Royal Canadian Mint coins that has actually gone up in value. They are like $500+ now.

About 20 years ago, give or take a few, I saw a UFO just like this that I haven't told many people about because, well, why? But I will take the time to put it here, because it was also in Canada but on the west coast. I was driving west on Highway #1 about an hour away from Vancouver, BC. I'm not sure what time of day it was, but it was dark outside, and a clear night. I was sitting in the passenger seat, and traffic was light with a few cars spread out ahead and behind us.
Suddenly, a light appeared in the sky ahead of us. About an eighth of a mile down the road and several hundred feet up in the sky, it started as a small, orange-ish, round but fuzzy light. It very rapidly grew in size until it looked to be around 100 feet in diameter. It lit the entire area up as if it was daytime. The highway, the trees, the buildings around the area-everything was as bright as the middle of the day. This lasted for maybe three seconds or so, and then the light reversed what it did. It went small until it disappeared.
At first, I thought I was having a stroke or maybe dying from a lack of blood to my brain, but I looked at my cousin, who was driving, and before I made a sound, he said, "What the fuck was THAT?!" Then I started thinking, "Oh no! He is having a stroke too!" That worry was quickly abated, however, once I looked back outside to the highway and realized that the other vehicles on the highway were acting strangely, like they had seen something in the sky and didn't know what to do. The vehicles ahead of us all had brake lights on and were clearly moving a bit left and right as if they were looking up at the light and then back to the road ahead. It was clear to us that everyone had also seen it.
And that was it. That's all that ever happened, and I never heard about this event from anyone else, ever. Just driving down the highway at night, a bright light slowly appears, lights the entire area up like day, and then fades back into the size it was when it showed up and then it just disappears.

Thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - sounds like a wild experience and many others have reported having similar things happen to them. I have a feeling some of these things are unmanned drones (or something similar) rather than craft with biological beings piloting them. Fascinating subject, and it seems like there is a gradual disclosure happening globally. Cheers mate, have a great weekend!

@@strangenorth Speaking of drones, I saw one when sleeping outside near a military site in Alberta, back in 2009. I was hitchhiking across the country with a friend, and we hit some cold weather. We stopped near the fence of a military site, because it looked like a spot we could sleep at. We laid a tarp on the snow with our bags on either end so it wouldn't fly off, and curled into our sleeping bags. When sleeping outside, I like being on my back and watching the sky a bit before closing my eyes. As I was doing that, I saw a triangular object silently gliding above our heads. My first reaction was "OMG, is that a UFO?!" but then I figured we were next to a military site, so they probably sent a drone to look at what we were doing. My friend didn't see it (he was trying to sleep). Afterwards, I just closed my eyes and curled as deep in my sleeping back as I could to survive the cold. I was very impressed by how silent that drone was, and by how smoothly it just glided over.

@@wandererstraining was the base you're mentioning - the CLAWR? I was working up north in 2009 on that base. I never saw a triangle but there was a lot of unexplained things going on in that area. I myself not military but was working as a contractor at the time.

@@TreCayUltimateLife Interesting! It wasn't the CLAWR. I was more South, closer to Calgary. Not sure of the exact location anymore, because I was offline back then and just had to stop somewhere for the night (also my paper map didn't go down to that level of detail, and cold and "drone" aside, it wasn't a remarkable location). I remember however that this "drone" was perfectly silent, it glided over without a sound and went away very quickly, too.
What did you see around the CLAWR? Or heard about?

That's super interesting! I'm thinking this must be some kind of a weird atmospheric phenomenon, but I don't know what. When they turned off the lights from the crane but the UFO stayed there, maybe it's just because there were lights being reflected that were not on the crane? It happened downtown after all, where there are a lot of other sources of light, at a time of the year when it's starting to get colder and where ice crystals could form at certain heights but not others.

Thanks for watching, this case interests me and it's unusual among prominent Canadian UFO sightings in that it occurred over the downtown of a major city. Definitely hard to say what happened, and the pictures taken were pretty fuzzy and inconclusive. Multiple witnesses felt it was definitely a craft but who knows. Interesting case nonetheless! Cheers mate
