@@johnmcdairmant3498I know I'm just being a smartass, but is that really a question at this point? Man has filed bankruptcy over a hundred different times throughout his "business career" 😅
My mother was an accountant for over twenty years. You have a responsibility to understand your financial forms before they are submitted and you are required to sign them with your signature. From a legal perspective you are responsible for your financials regardless of whether or not you understood them. He could try suing his accountant but it wouldn't absolve him of his crimes even if they had occurred out of ignorance.
So the one thing I’m unsure about: when they say accountants, they mean the actual auditors or do they mean the bookkeepers. Because accusing your auditors would somehow make sense if you didn’t actually know about the fraud (kind of unlikely) but accusing bookkeepers is just idiotic

What I want to know is... Have trump's lawyers presented the "I'm rubber, you're glue" defense? We all know Cult 45 has been vaccinated for COVID, but has he had the more important Cootie shot? Obviously, trump has seen England, and he's seen France... which is indisputable proof that he's also seen the judge's underpants. Perhaps, before the judge tells him what his punishment fine will be, he will preface it by saying, "Nanny-Nanny-Boo-Boo, stick your face in doo doo", and conclude his speech with, "You're a liar, liar, and your pants are on fire!"
I canvassed for Ruben Gallego in Arizona this weekend. I had never done anything like that before, it was actually really fun and i met a lot of great people. Let’s get out there and make it happen everyone! 👏
Gotta love that the defense for his two adult sons who helped with the crime was "These children have been forcibly taken away from their families for doing nothing wrong." Like that isn't literally what Trump's border policy was doing to real actual children. I think we don't talk about that enough.
Maybe that was the way we could have got through to him. Did anyone ever try “Imagine if Ivanka was in a cage? She would be available for campaign appearances or for you to date!” Kids would have been returned by morning tea.

There are still 6 fraud allegations being tried, they require intent to be proved (so that’s why they weren’t part of the summary judgment). The findings on these claims will also help determine the penalties.
@karlwithak. Oh, please enlighten us with your vast wisdom concerning the SDNY and the legal system! My source is Glenn Kirschner, former prosecutor for the SDNY, who informed Bryan Tyler Cohen on his show, that he didn't need to use ALLEGED to describe Trump's fraud, as he has already been found guilty (or liable, if you're looking to make it sound better somehow) of fraud in summary judgement. Now, the only thing left is to determine the monetary damages he will have to pay. What part of that statement is wrong, Professor?
I’ve been going back-and-forth on this issue, but I feel now that it’s important to televise the DC trial. I think that trial should be public viewing just like the trial in the Senate. The DC case is historic and people need to see. Just like televising Watergate. That sunk Nixon. They *have* to televise that trial.
The problem is that Nixon was supported on rational grounds - not necessarily *correct*, and often subjective, but the vast majority of his supporters believed arguments about positions, policies, and executive ability. Trump's support, particularly now that he had his chance to make SCOTUS appointments, is nearly all demagogic. It's based on a cult of personality which is largely immune to facts and events. Unfortunately I don't think more coverage of his trials would sway many potential voters. As is often the case in contemporary America, I think 2024's election will come down to turnout, not persuading "independent" voters.
Yep, it’s all about turnout. That is why Republican legislators are making up wacky laws like no passing out water to people in line and signing your middle initial, they want to hamper all voting bc the more people that vote the more they lose.
I’m ignoring the polls. They’re just making sh*t up at this point. You can literally design a poll to get whatever answer you want and I guarantee they are not getting Gen Z to respond. 🤷🏼♀️

As an european watching from the outside as well I feel likewise disturbing vibes of vague nausea with this horror clown show. It has to be pointed out though that the US are not the only country in the world electing fraud and blunt propaganda against their own interests these days. Perhaps a bit more extreme and overtly proud of their ignorance but basically not all that much different than we would be if we grew up with the sad excuse passing for education in the states. The basuc formula is no different though. Simple answers for complex problems and always blaming somone else. The world used to be good and the forces of evil are trying to ruin it for you but I am here to fix everything if you just give me the power to do it. Julius Caesar already knew there are two things people are prone to believe even against common sense and obvious evidence to the contrary. One beeing what they wish to be true and the other that what they are aftraid of to be true. Consequently the narrative of great saviors coming to the rescue against imagined threats for your way of life always sell. Be that gaul barbarians, jewish momeylenders or muslim terrorists doesnt really matter. Hitler was elected in free democratic elections too. We still have Video footage of the man shouting that he was going to bring total war and the rallied crowd cheering for that too.
This isn't about whether they're guilty of fraud or not. They have already been found guilty. This is about how much they have to pay the state in fines and penalties, and if their business is defunct. Which would be poetic justice for all the companies he never paid over the decades who did work for him( in multiple countries).
Unfortunately, they do. And he told them it's the Democrats trying to destroy american democracy. You'd think his incoherence and lack of consistancy would be held against him, but they think this is what a strong leader looks like.
No. No, it wasn't. The one the other night about how worried djt was over Junior testifying, that was genius. Just the point alone about how abnormal it is for a campaign rally to not be about the campaign at all but simply the candidate whining about something completely unrelated, that by itself would have made the peace memorable apart from anything else that was in it. This one, in contrast, wasted way too much time on tiresome side jokes.
Someone please explain to me why 51% of polled voters can be absolutely enthralled by this sad excuse of a former president. Heads up their bottom end?
I think it’s more that Biden’s own base is shrinking with disgust at his response to Gaza. Hard to hold your nose and vote for the lesser evil when the lesser evil is aiding a genocide
It depends on who was polled. Polls will show whatever you want them to if you sample the right people. I remember being polled after the 2018 midterms. Haven't been contacted since.
It would be interesting to see the polling technique. Sometimes I'm sure they still call landlines & that explains the demographic they get... But a good poll requires varied demographics, so it depends on the quality of the poll. Also, depends on the number of people polled. They can ask 1000 people and extrapolate from there which is not very representative. I have no idea about the poll cited though.

One small point. The Trump Organization's fraud is no longer "alleged," it has been been found true by the judge, who is now looking into its extent so that he can decide on the size of the fine and other consequences.

They don’t really need to do this. The judge already reviewed the evidence and heard arguments from both sets of lawyers and determine that by law, a crime was committed. Trumps lawyers missed their chance to get a jury trail by letting that happen. WHEN Trump loses his New York case, he could have an even bigger nightmare coming: Deutsche Bank's New York branch can call his business loans early because of the falsified information on his assets statements: Repayment of balance owed plus interest, once there's a losing verdict. Deutsche Bank could technically do it now with the evidence uncovered this far (they would for anyone else.) But if he's found liable for anything close to $250,000,000, that could slam dunk it. Trump can appeal it all the way up to the Supreme Court. But this would REALLY be pushing it with the banking industry. And not even this Supreme Court would hear it. Then there's The J6 Trial, The Georgia Election interference Trial, The Florida Documents Trial. All higher-end felony trials. The odds of him losing at least any one of these with the way he's been reacting are pretty huge (most innocent people are smart enough to keep a low profile in cases like these.) And prosecutors in such cases don't come empty handed. Who knows what else? But yeah, we're all supposed to be worried about Hunter Biden....

@karlwithak.What junior high has legal classes?

This is so bizarre. I worked for a licensed surveyor. End of day anything I had measured, put on paper to be signed off was ultimately his responsibility. "Don Jr. and Eric had to go in there all alone! They were separated from their family!"
Well, their dad took actual children and babies from their families and put them in cages so I think these 30 somethings will be fine away from their parents for a few hours.
are we sure they're in their 30s? They look mid-40s
The worst part of our current affairs isn't that all of this is happening, it's that people WANT chaos and destruction to be happening
Nu-uh. Trump-supporters have been made believe there is utter chaos and destruction NOW.
GQP managed to raise propaganda on a new level, where facts are faked and beliefs are facts.
Thats what happens when people watch reality tv on news networks
No we dont
Remember that the pollsters get their poll stats by calling landline phones. That means that the only people that get polled are 80 year old shut ins that watch only Fox.
These polls are often organized by right-wing groups and are tailored to create an image.
The polls are a lie. Don't fall for it. America does NOT want Trump back.

Correction: it's not "alleged" fraud as Engoron has already ruled that the organization is guilty.
There are still 6 claims of fraud being tried, that require intent to be proved.
It makes it so much funnier whenever MAGAts try to claim that he's somehow winning.
@@karlwithak. LMAO, you must be _really_ desperate for a win if you're trying to argue that semantic horseshit.
@@karlwithak. oh dear Jesus, I'm so sorry that I left out nuance. I should have known better with the jackals. Engoron found that Trump and several members of the Trump organization submitted fraudulent bank statements. It isn't alleged. It's been ruled on.
What is currently happening is determining how much to give and penalize the Trump's which includes preventing the Trump organization from doing business in the state.
Blaming the accountants but still admitting fraud. WHOOPS.
He's already been found summarily guilty

P.S. A citizen should NEVER be allowed to run for president once or twice with ANY pending civil and/or criminal indictments on the legal radar ... ⚖️
That wont work. Republicans would simply drag every possible candidate against them into bs court cases.
So that all any DA with an agenda has to do is file charges against any candidate they don't like?
That’s a bit tricky but maybe not if you have full belief and access to our legal system.
Yeah that's an emotional gut reaction that can easily be manipulated.
You forgot to mention that he was impeached twice, yet his Gunk Of Puke party joins in endorsing all his criminal acts. The crime syndicate is very well organized.

Calling Alina Habba a lawyer is insulting to lawyers.
Is that Melania Part Duece? 😂
remember that trump will do anything... ANYTHING!
Habba complaining about attacks on Trump's children, who are all older than her, is laughable.
@@Mathis37 She's probably been very 'handy' to them in the cloak room at the court. It's the only reason Trump has her on retainer. She certainly doesn't know the law. My cat hacked up a hairball that could litigate better than that airhead.
I imagine Habba will be suing Trump for non-payment soon.
Such disrespect to hug the flag. Oh, any vets that might want to vote for him might want to consider what Trump thinks about the people who choose to serve...
Republicans complain about people burning the flag (not illegal) while they themselves are wearing the flag (is illegal).
Side note: Trump displays flags in the background with gold edging. No doubt because they have gold edging. The gold edging is typically reserved for use by the military. Ironic for private bonespurs

PSA: Did you or literally anyone you know answer a poll? No. Why? Cuz it's 2023. If you're stressing about any 2024 election polls, you are wasting valuable stress energy 😂 this has been a common sense PSA
Thanks, I needed that.
I think it is better to get Democrats worried and more amped to vote than thinking Biden will skate to victory and forget to vote.
Come 2024 and it's Biden against Trump again and all that those uncertain in their political affiliation will remember is Biden pushed the inflation button and the start war button. The world is doomed.
My wife came home today and said a co-worker told her Trump had won 7 states in a poll. He also said he was sure Trump will be President again. I told her to ask her co-worker for the Mega and Powerball numbers since he knew so much so far in front and was so certain. As far as I know the elections will be on Nov. 5, 2024. Come Hell or High Water I'm voting ANTIFASCIST!
The polls a year out from 2020 and 2016 accurately predicted the vote share. 🤷🏻♂️
This needs to be a televised trial. Seriously
It csn’t be….federal trials are not televised.
Tell your congressperson.
idk if that would be a good idea. his nutcase followers would actually be emboldened by it.
If the trials are not televised Faux News will just continue to lie and divide the nation.
@@karlwithak. It makes all the difference in my life and the healing of the nation. My family and the very fabric of this nation have been torn apart by his and Faux News lies. No healing can start until the irrefutable proof is laid bare.
Cameras need to be in the court. Exactly what was predicted has happened: the defense comes out and spins their victimhood and the prosecutors just let it happen because ... professionalism ... which is no longer an effective position against those who flout norms ...
I'm not particularly worried about the polling. There's a huge difference between what people say they'll vote for when the choices are theoretical and when you're actually staring at the ballot
In November 2015 Ben Carson was leading the polls with a clear path to victory.
When you look at the poll it's a good amount of people who didnt even vote in 2020. So whats the chances they'll vote this time?? Their opinion means nothing anyway
When candidates are disliked/unwanted which Biden/Clinton/Trump are, voters decide early and don't change their minds.
75% don't want Biden to run. 68% don't want Trump to run. The polls are very unlikely to change.
What Americans need to be asking themselves is why out of 330 million people, these are the best 2 y'all could come up with.
@@Gabriel_H77 For sure, if anyone can lose to that idiot Trump it's a center right octogenarian. Trump and his MAGA GOP are so obviously and openly trying to end our democracy that I just can't imagine people voting for them though.
Don’t panic, but please don’t be complacent. We can’t afford for trump to be president again.
I love it when Closer Look makes me actually laugh out loud
Call the accountants to testify against them. Let them tell the court where they got the inputs from and how many times Trump sent them back to “massage” the numbers in his favor.
They don’t really need to do this. The judge already reviewed the evidence and heard arguments from both sets of lawyers and determine that by law, a crime was committed. Trumps lawyers missed their chance to get a jury trail by letting that happen. Though i believe it was a purposeful gamble so that Trump could have more reason to yell witch hunt and get voters and donations. This whole trail is just to determine the extent of crime and damages to be paid, the company is already guilty already guilty. Also, I’m not 100% on who the suit was brought against though. Pretty sure trump in Incorporated so they are suing the business not the Trumps directly, so even if Trump said “fudge the numbers” he cant be jailed directly through this suit, he is protected behind the corporation. It would need to happen separately
That unicorn should have been a connect the dots, not a paint-by-the-numbers.
Omg I’m dying! Trumps lawyers trying to wrangle him like giving medicine to a cat….😅 As a slave to a houseful of cats…I nearly spit my tea across the room.
If he manages to convince the court that the properties were actually worth what he told the banks, wouldn’t he actually be admitting under oath that he committed tax fraud?
Looks like a lose-lose situation for him…
Would seem like YES! But this is the United States! So there’s that!
U got that right.
Take those criminals to PRISON NOW!
This has been one of the best segments in a while! Did the graphics department slip something into Seth's coffee?
Me, a small child: That’s not fair!
My parents: Life’s not fair.
They weren’t lying and I greatly appreciate that honesty because it really does make you look like a child when you’re constantly crying about how unfair it is to be held accountable.
Of course life is not fair. Fairness is a human-invented concept, and like so many things they invented, fairness is a load of bull the few times it appears.
As a wise friend told my kids, life’s not fair, but roughly 50% of the time it’s unfair in your favor. Trump’s life has been unfair in his favor up until recently, but now it’s changed, and he doesn’t like it a bit.

As an accountant, I always discussed the accuracy of the financial reports with the company officers as I was preparing them. Then I prepared the reports, and they signed off on them. But not until we both agreed on the method of valuation of the assets, etc. In fact, the method of appraising assets is supposed to be detailed in the reports.
This is a prime example of a two tier justice system. An average American would have been locked up. This man will not ever be held accountable & or face prison time.
