"Seth stares off into the distance and mutters to himself for a minute" feels like a fair reflection for the current state of the world.

Seth, this 77 year old grandpa thanks you and the LNS writers for getting me through theTrump years. And a much belated thank you to Jon Stewart for getting through the Bush/Cheney years.
As a person of 77 does it ever feel like the world gets better, i just got laid off after years of struggling i was homeless in my early 20's due to insurance companies not taking me because of my epilepsy until the health care act passed then i was able to go back to school and get a min wage job close to homelessness but fighting hard not to fall back and this was my first time not struggling but i'm back to struggling again at 34 and i'm burnt out sicker than before and i am just sorta losing hope that someday i won't have to live in survival mode. I guess i'm asking in your experience by the time i'm 77 is there sigh of relief at any point?
I have to agree about the Dubya years -- TDS show got me thru the horror of that reign too.

If he'd do the bare minimum due diligence on those polls he'd be livid at the MSM who holds the water, instead of looking as much a male bimbo as Chris Hayes does daily.
By this point I know I shouldn’t be, but I’m still shocked how anyone could support Trump.
No longer shocked, just numb and deeply disappointed.
I'm really scared it's honestly not even funny anymore if he gets reelected we're fxcked
It's because you're shocked that he is. Not saying it's your fault, just that's his appeal to his supporters.

As an Australian watching from the outside, it's hard to comprehend the utter stupidity that Americans are demonstrating with the polling results. How can you look at what this man has done and STILL want to vote him back into as the head of your country? It really is unbelievable.
I got news for you, though it really shouldn't be news: We never were all that great, from the beginning.
As an Australian I'd assume you are familiar with the name Rupert Murdoch. That is how. Propaganda empire.
As an european watching from the outside as well I feel likewise disturbing vibes of vague nausea with this horror clown show.
It has to be pointed out though that the US are not the only country in the world electing fraud and blunt propaganda against their own interests these days. Perhaps a bit more extreme and overtly proud of their ignorance but basically not all that much different than we would be if we grew up with the sad excuse passing for education in the states.
The basuc formula is no different though. Simple answers for complex problems and always blaming somone else. The world used to be good and the forces of evil are trying to ruin it for you but I am here to fix everything if you just give me the power to do it.
Julius Caesar already knew there are two things people are prone to believe even against common sense and obvious evidence to the contrary. Be that gaul barbarians, jewish momeylenders or muslim terrorists doesnt really matter. Hitler was elected in free democratic elections too. That back and forth between Trump and the judge was brilliant.
What I want to know is... Have trump's lawyers presented the "I'm rubber, you're glue" defense?
We all know Cult 45 has been vaccinated for COVID, but has he had the more important Cootie shot?
Obviously, trump has seen England, and he's seen France... which is indisputable proof that he's also seen the judge's underpants.
Perhaps, before the judge tells him what his punishment fine will be, he will preface it by saying, "Nanny-Nanny-Boo-Boo, stick your face in doo doo", and conclude his speech with, "You're a liar, liar, and your pants are on fire!"
If he wins again, it's not because we underestimated Trump. It's because we overestimated Americans.
Some folks are freaking out about these poll numbers. But if you remember at this exact time last election the leading candidate was not Hillary it was not Trump. It was Ben Carson

If any private citizen did what this clown did during the trial, they would have been charged with contempt and escorted away by bailiffs. It's ridiculous that he's getting any special treatment.
Exactly what I thought.
True, but the repercussions for the judge and court staff to throw him in jail for contempt would also be different for Trump vs A Nobody. Trumpkins would resort to violence as a result because they're insane.
@@1paradox True, but they're going to resort to violence no matter what, so we shouldn't let it stop us from holding him accountable for his actions.
@@candacen7779 oh absolutely agreed, I want Trump to face justice, but I do worry for the people he fiercely attacks. At the end of the day, you're right, he just needs to be held accountable. With the power he still wields, I don't know if it's possible.
i mean of course the courts are gonna give him better treatment he was a former president.
Seth, you don't need to say "alleged" fraud. He's already been found guilty. This is the penalty phase!
100% 👍🏻
There are still 6 fraud allegations being tried, they require intent to be proved (so that’s why they weren’t part of the summary judgment). The findings on these claims will also help determine the penalties.
People don't get found guilty in civil trials fyi...it's a different standard of proof which is why defendants can be found "liable".
Even El dopo 🥴doesn't get it.
@karlwithak. Oh, please enlighten us with your vast wisdom concerning the SDNY and the legal system!
My source is Glenn Kirschner, former prosecutor for the SDNY, who informed Bryan Tyler Cohen on his show, that he didn't need to use ALLEGED to describe Trump's fraud, as he has already been found guilty (or liable, if you're looking to make it sound better somehow) of fraud in summary judgement. Now, the only thing left is to determine the monetary damages he will have to pay.
What part of that statement is wrong, Professor?
If anyone else did that, they'd be held in contempt and thrown in jail for each count. This is ridiculous. Punish him like every one else.
If any other judge refused to hear witness testimony they would be disbarred and impeached.
It’s a shame we have rules for the average citizen but never those of wealth or other means.
It is unconscionable
@Timmah200 To President Biden, a real President, he has the most important job in the world. To Trump, the worst president we ever had, he is the most important (idiot) in the world!
By allowing him to ramble, the assistant AG got him relaxed and he literally admitted “everyone” in the company was in charge of making sure there was no fraud. There were a couple of other admissions. That is why the assistant AG didn’t object. It was a brilliant strategy.
Absolutely hilarious! The reporting as NPR about what happened in the courtroom I was classical. Kudos to the people who came up with that.😂😂😂😂
I’ve been going back-and-forth on this issue, but I feel now that it’s important to televise the DC trial. I think that trial should be public viewing just like the trial in the Senate. The DC case is historic and people need to see. Just like televising Watergate. That sunk Nixon. They *have* to televise that trial.
The problem is that Nixon was supported on rational grounds - not necessarily *correct*, and often subjective, but the vast majority of his supporters believed arguments about positions, policies, and executive ability. Trump's support, particularly now that he had his chance to make SCOTUS appointments, is nearly all demagogic. It's based on a cult of personality which is largely immune to facts and events. Unfortunately I don't think more coverage of his trials would sway many potential voters.
As is often the case in contemporary America, I think 2024's election will come down to turnout, not persuading "independent" voters.
Yep, it’s all about turnout. That is why Republican legislators are making up wacky laws like no passing out water to people in line and signing your middle initial, they want to hamper all voting bc the more people that vote the more they lose.
Its hilarious when that lawyer tries to refer to trumps middle aged sons as "children"
It also makes me cringe.
5 year tots....oops
If Don jr is a child, what does that make his step mom? She’s only seven years older than him.
These are the exact same people who refer to a 10-year-old black child gunned down by a cop in a park as "the young man."
But 40something felons are "my childwennnn."
Maybe they meant mentally, because his sons sure act like children.
I no longer have any respect for my fellow Americans. It’s unforgivable that so many are completely ignorant or careless of the destruction this man would unleash on the nation & world.

It happens for Democrats as well (blind party loyalism) but I think that more of us have the wherewithal to not give in to our party’s “out there” contingent whereas that doesn’t seem to be the case across the isle
I think a lot of people fall into this category though: even if you’d rather your party push someone better, it’s more preferable to be the party in control with someone bad, than to not be the party in control at all…

I don't want to split hairs but I'm pretty sure that was my sister who came up with that.
Grow up and wise up. You've been lied to for the last 8 years.
But my sister only came up with this term seven and a half years ago...
I remember reading that term 40 years ago in a book by Alan Dershowitz. He was describing testimony by police officers in criminal trials.
The fraud is no longer "allegedly "-- judge ruled guilty.
To be precise, Trump has been found liable for one instance of ongoing fraud, but several other instances remain to be determined.

Someone please explain to me why 51% of polled voters can be absolutely enthralled by this sad excuse of a former president. Heads up their bottom end?
That about sums it up. I can't wrap my head around it either. Maybe those numbers are inflated. It is about Trump, you know, lol!
How could Biden receive 81 million votes when he could never attract more than 100 people to his rallies?
I think it’s more that Biden’s own base is shrinking with disgust at his response to Gaza. Hard to hold your nose and vote for the lesser evil when the lesser evil is aiding a genocide
It depends on who was polled. Polls will show whatever you want them to if you sample the right people. I remember being polled after the 2018 midterms. Haven't been contacted since.
It would be interesting to see the polling technique. Sometimes I'm sure they still call landlines & that explains the demographic they get... But a good poll requires varied demographics, so it depends on the quality of the poll.
Also, depends on the number of people polled. They can ask 1000 people and extrapolate from there which is not very representative.
I have no idea about the poll cited though.
That Courtroom description sketch should not just earn you an emmy but an Oscar as well.

The "dot-to-dot" was actually color by number so you would be able to see it was a unicorn to begin with
How?! What is wrong with these people?!
Alina Habba is ridiculous to suggest that officers of a company found guilty of fraud shouldn't have to testify
False martyrdom is the only kind of defense they can put on.
The trumps are already found guilty and are just working for an appeal and MAGAt sympathy.
But they are "children," right?
How stupid do you have to be to insult the judge who is the ONLY person (there's no jury) that is going to decide the amount of damages against you (remember that $250 million is the MINIMUM and could be more than a billion!)? Answer: A Stable Genius! 😂
Some prosecutor said that Trump might be being as objectionable as possible on the stand in order to provoke the judge so that he can use his comments later to appeal on account of bias. Obviously Trump is as thick as mince but his lawyers might have strategised and advised him to behave that way.
Personally I’m not convinced given Trump’s track record for saying the most STUPID thing possible in any given situation. The man is incapable of keeping his idiotic views to himself, however damaging they might prove to be!
Creating his own grounds for appeal. I was mean to the judge so he was biased against me
He has never been held accountable for anything his whole life.
Trump's only using this trial to campaign. He doesn't care about the results -- he knows he's headed to prison UNLESS he can make himself a MAGA martyr and get enough people to think he's a better option than Biden, or to just not vote in 2024.
A very stable genius.
Love you Seth. Glad you're back.
I got a total ITYSL Brian's Hat vibe from Seth's courtroom transcription read. So funny!
Calling Alina Habba a lawyer is insulting to lawyers.
Is that Melania Part Duece? 😂
remember that trump will do anything... ANYTHING!
Habba complaining about attacks on Trump's children, who are all older than her, is laughable.
@@Mathis37 She's probably been very 'handy' to them in the cloak room at the court. It's the only reason Trump has her on retainer. She certainly doesn't know the law. My cat hacked up a hairball that could litigate better than that airhead.
I imagine Habba will be suing Trump for non-payment soon.
An Aussie here! Very very frightened to see the trial. One rule for the rich and another for the poor. Definitely needs 3 cigarettes and some whiskey.
I'm American and I agree. I am so embarrassed about our behavior since 2016.
I was half expecting him to pull out a bong after the cigarette.
Correction: Seth stared off into the distance and muttered to himself for 46 seconds.
Not the correction we needed. The correction we deserved.
Seth is so funny with all the insanity and craziness going on in this world, having this late night show keeps us sane.
Sane - ish
Thats why these trials need to be televised. Let the people see how he acts and what he saids
Force Fox, OAN amd Newsmax to cover it.
At least have us hear the audio, heck there are microphones already in place for the Court recorder etc.
If it were televised, the Trumplings would just cheer him on. The rest of us would be bored to death-no sane person wants to watch a spoiled baby like Trump having a tantrum.
🚬👴🏻🥃 I HATE I CANT SMOKE CIGARETTES IN STUDIO B LIKE I DID IN 1955
I might see myself out of this country.......
It's like he thinks nobody inside the courtroom is reporting what really happened.
Hello how are you doing
This is so bizarre. I worked for a licensed surveyor. End of day anything I had measured, put on paper to be signed off was ultimately his responsibility. I had some responsibility to ensure it was accurate and according to the the rules set out by various acts and legislation. At the end though, it was my Boss (licensed surveyor) to sign off. Same way these real estate moguls should be treated. I can't understand how they can be so totally ignorant of their responsibilities.
You’re being generous in putting it down to mere ignorance. The conniving scumbag Trumps are only pleading ignorance because they know they’re screwed otherwise. They’re trying to sacrifice their accountants to save themselves, and they’ve clearly planned this ‘defence’ which is why Don Jr and Eric’s testimonies were so similar.
They're not ignorant, they know the rules but they're not used to having to follow them
None of them are ignorant to the fact they are breaking laws, they just conveniently use that excuse after they are caught and being held accountable.
Donald Trump: "LEAVE MY CHILDREN ALONE"
Hunter Biden: "Umm..."
NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE HYPOCRISY OF REPUBLICANS.
My thoughts exactly, especially considering that Donny is a cokehead with a gun license
They also stole his completely innocent daughter's diary... They're trash.
@@wgriffin3460 Nobody stole anyone's diary.
How the hell is this possible!!!!
I thought that only thing Martin Van Buren was remembered for were his humongous sideburns!
I would love to see the accountants testify.
I’d love to see that Trump audit.
The trump accountant, Allen Weisselberg, was convicted of tax fraud and sentenced to 5 months in jail, I wonder if the transcripts of his hearings have been made public yet?
That dude knows where all the bodies are buried, including any and all criminal acts by "big daddy" Fred Trump. We just recently learned that Weisselberg was never even a CPA!
I bet Amber said, "Whaaaaa??" when she heard about that!
Call the accountants to testify against them. Let them tell the court where they got the inputs from and how many times Trump sent them back to “massage” the numbers in his favor.
They don’t really need to do this. The judge already reviewed the evidence and heard arguments from both sets of lawyers and determine that by law, a crime was committed. Trumps lawyers missed their chance to get a jury trail by letting that happen. Though i believe it was a purposeful gamble so that Trump could have more reason to yell witch hunt and get voters and donations. This whole trail is just to determine the extent of crime and damages to be paid, the company is already guilty already guilty. Also, I’m not 100% on who the suit was brought against though. Pretty sure trump in Incorporated so they are suing the business not the Trumps directly, so even if Trump said “fudge the numbers” he cant be jailed directly through this suit, he is protected behind the corporation. It would need to happen separately
This is what it is like to be in relationship with a malevolent narcissist. You can NEVER talk about the issues at hand. They evade, distract, lie and flip scripts all the time. It is madness.
Well that was the best writing I've ever heard you perform.
And I believe that you believed it. Which I appreciate.
6:10 Trump: “hey, judge. Leave these kids alone. All in all, I’m just an clown who promised a wall”
(to the melody of “Another Brick in the wall”)
nice one!
There really are two different sets of rules. If anybody without millions of dollars acted the way trump did in court they would be in jail. I hope one day the rich are as afraid of the court as poor people are. Because there’s no way I would act this way in court.
*COULD act this way
😐
Been in court. Never did a fraction of the antagonistic bullshit to the judge that "the Donald " had done even before today!
Exactly perfectly stated. Although Trump would have you believe that the rules he is subject to are harsher than those that everyone else is subject to.
Judges are literally appointed by the criminals who use them for their criminal cases.
The court readings reminds me of Tim Robinson.😂
His "Closer Look" is always just hilarious.
Those 'children' are older than the lawyer.
They are old enough to be grandparents.
