Thank you for the great service and efforts you put into this. It's very comprehensive, I just got started with mine. I sure feel like an amateur and compared to your skill set and knowledge. 💪🇺🇸😎
@@TheTechnologyManI ordered one of these with the impression that I could view the camera and start/stop prints while away from home. You stated that it is not capable of working off the network without doing some extra work. How would I go about doing that?
The resonance test is to measure the frequency as the print head see them. By putting the sensor on the bed for the Y-axis reading, you are bypassing the resonance as it travels through the z-axis screws and the rollers that the head rides on.
@@TheTechnologyMan Another analogy of this is the large mass dampers near the top of tall skyscrapers. They dampen the sway of the building they feel at the top during earthquakes, not what is happening at the base. If the bed of the printer is reading higher vibration levels than what the print head sees, it will overcompensate for it in the software. I have an S1 Plus, so the bed has more mass, but the whole printer does too. I may or may not see a more noticeable difference than a standard size printer when I set my Sonic Pad up on it.
Just got mine a couple of days ago. Tuned my entire printer all over again, used pressure advance, input shaping, everything. Even put extra software (obico) on there to enable remote access so i can check in on my prints and printer feom anywhere i want outside of my home network. I love how i can change the printer firmware right on the pad instead of having to compile or flash different firmwares every time. I was a. Bit skeptical bur now i wish i had this pad three years ago!
I've been looking to upgrade my setup rather than deal with the inherent design flaws in the Anycubic Kobra. Your videos have been key. They're extremely well put together and not only helped me decide but will be helpful during setup. Thanks
That's great very glad I could help and good luck!

thanks for the written review and this video. my sonic pad didn't recognize logitech c210 webcam when plugged in. do you know there any workaround to make it work?
If you have a Sonic Pad - what do you think of it? And if you’re considering getting one, please feel free to ask any questions down below. I read every comment and will do my best to respond, perhaps even in a follow up video!
Just received my sonic pad yesterday. I have a cr10 v3 and the support surrounding installing klipper on this model specifically is absolutely horrible 😬 I have watched their "user defined printer firmware compilation guide" for printers that aren't an ender 3. Understandably they can't provide step by step instructions for all 3d printer models but I honestly would have expected more support for at least their line of printers. Advertising this as a "plug and play" for Creality printers feels like a lie for people like myself who have never used klipper before.
Thank you for this introductory video. To date, it's the most comprehensive and informative I've seen. Sonic Pad has potential but you have to get your hands into the code. I don't have much faith in Creality's responsiveness to release new printer.cfg files quickly. Even if the official configuration of our machine is released, we'll still have to go write in the Klipper code. It's up to me to write a commented printer.cfg file with all possible updates included. Good luck for the rest of your videos on the Sonic Pad (change of printer, modification of the slicer with Cura or Prusaslicer,...).
@@TheTechnologyMan To clarify, this tablet is not suitable for all printers. This solution will not work for the anycubic kobra printer, since the resistors need to be soldered in the anycubic kobra printer itself, only after that the clipper will work correctly. The thing is that anycubic kobra decided to normally put different drivers for the axes - TMC2209 clones and TMC2208 extruder on one UART, but did not take into account that the TMC2208 will have the address 0, as well as on the X axis. Therefore, it is necessary to solder the address of the driver X from 0 to 3. Solder the resistors R65 to R66. So, this device is most likely for all printers of the creality brand. But, many solutions from the creality brand are easily integrated into anycubic kobra. For example, I have successfully installed anycubic kobra creality 3d digital spoon rack-s. Everything fell into place without alteration. Set the adjustment of the platform as in creality (twister + springs) + automatic alignment from anycubic kobra themselves. This is my subjective opinion. The Creality Sonic Pad tablet is not really needed when for the same price of $ 90-100 you can buy a mini pc SZBOX T5 Pro (intel 3305 processor, 6GB of memory, 64GB of space is a lot, I only have 6.8 gigs of space occupied) install debian 11, lift the docker and the port, deploy an octoprint in the docker or a clipper, connect the camera and, if desired, you can install Home Assistant. Thus, the printer can be integrated into the HomeAssistant and we get the opportunity to control the printer via a voice assistant or using smart home automation and output the camera to any smart TV at the request of the voice assistant.
@@TheTechnologyMan I found out that it does work with the Enders 7, But you have to manually set it up as no automatic profile like the Enders 3 series
Wow - I'm gobsmacked! Thank you so much that's far too kind! I do hope to have it running with the FLSUN SR soon - what printer would you like to see? Can't promise anything - but will do my best!
@@TheTechnologyMan I'd love to see it with an Elegoo Neptune 3, but totally understand if you don't have one 😄 More so wanting to see what the Sonic Pad runs like on other printers 😄. Thank you so much!
@@waldobroodryk you seem like a great dude. Good on you for supporting content creators that give the community useful info. I hope you have an amazing day!
Just got my sonic pad today. I had a klipper setup on a pi but liked the idea of more optimized profiles and the input shaper accelerometer. The tip on using the bed for Y was great and am just about to do that. great video thanks!
14:00 How can I customize this progress screen? I'd like remove\hide axes positions line, in that place put the number of Layers line. Is it possible? Right now I can't see "Number of layers" line at all.
Thanks for the video. Can't get my new SP connected to a Ender-3 v2 Neo. Although the model IS listed on the setup screen, I still end up with Klippy host attempting to connect error. Seems that an upgrade to the Bootloader is required and included on the usb stick. But it's a lot to do that.
I drilled 2 small holes in the bed handle of my S1 Pro that align with the existing holes in the X/Y sensor. I use the printable sensor mount on the memory stick and mount that to the Sprite extruder to take the X axis measurement. I unscrew the sensor from the extruder mount and then screw it into the holes that I made in the bed handle to take the Y measurement.
Everything is working well getting the Sonic Pad set up with my Ender 3 S1 Pro, but when I try to import the profiles into Cura, it errors and tells me that the quality types "normal" and "fast" are incompatible with the current active machine definition.
Just got mine. pretty much got it running smooth with your help :) didnt want to push it too much so went for test benchy with 400% speed (from 80mm/s base in slicer) so 320mm/s with 5000 accel. took 33 mins with result like on a stock just a bit of error on backside hull. (arches even the chimney was flawless) Just wish it had some kind of remote access (not only home wifi) so i could check on it while in work throught my phone. guess my sollution will be a laptop next to printer connected to sonic pad throught wifi, while ill connect to laptop via microsoft remote access app on phone to control it :D
Why is it so difficult and so many devices? It is easier to take one mini pc SZBOX T5 Pro on aliexpress at a price of $ 90-100, which will replace two Creality Sonic Pad devices and the laptop that you are going to install. This SZBOX T5 Pro is small, has no fans and its resources are abundant enough to control the printer and camera operation. In total, 6.8 GB of 64 GB of space is occupied and 700-900 MB of 6 GB of memory is consumed. We install debian11, docker + portainer, put an octoprint with a clipper plugin in the docker and control the printer with a clipper. We install and configure OpenVPN for remote access and manage the printer from anywhere, no matter where you will be. Also, if desired, you can install Home Assistant and it will automatically control the printer, and you can also implement voice control of the printer, at the request of the voice assistant to display the camera on TV, and you can also automatically send videos or photos to telegram and even automatically turn off the printer when it finishes printing the part. I have already done all this and worked successfully and even tested the printer illumination. If it's dark outside and the printer is on, then the light will turn on itself with not much brightness by 20%, and if I approach the printer, the brightness of the light will increase to 100%, as I move away from the printer, the brightness decreases to 20%. If the day is sunny, then the printer's backlight does not turn on, but I can turn it on through the voice assistant
Thank you. The best video I have come across. I just purchased this to go with my CR10 Smart Pro, mainly because I use my printer sideways as I can't see the nozzle from the front. I have been fairly disappointed with it so far, the setup instructions are not clear enough. I seem to have lost the ability to power off my printer from the Sonic Pad as I could with the default display. The Creality HD camera that came with the printer doesn't work with the Sonic Pad, that's just ridiculous. The Sonic Pad lost all the settings after I had completed the first installation and I had to start again after turning it off. I made a mistake and entered the wrong bed temperature, as the bed was already at 60 degs I had to wait 20 minutes and was locked out until the bed had cooled to 40 degs. Now I find out that the printer and pad can't connect to each other solely via network cables and the USB connection is so flakey they have had to produce a serial lead and adapter which isn't available yet. So yes, pretty annoyed at the moment with my £160 purchase.
I just picked up the sonic pad. I'm currently printing the bracket for the sensor. I have the script running to show a preview image of the file but nothing is displayed while printing. Any suggestions? Thanks
If you've followed my instructions for displaying thumbnails - perhaps something is broken in the current version of Cura - perhaps try an older version or wait for an update.
@@TheTechnologyMan I'll double check your instructions and verify I didn't make a mistake. It didn't occur to me the Cura version could be an issue. Thank you.
@@TheTechnologyMan well, somewhat interestingly, while I can upload and save to the computer without format issues, Cura seems to automatically default to saving in Gcode to my thumb drive. Not sure what the issue is, but it's easily circumvented by saving to the computer and then copying to the thumb drive. All previews are now working. Thanks again.
Are there instructions anywhere to show how to access the sonic pad remotely? The video mentions it can't be done without extra work, but doesn't say what that extra work entails.
Hi Gidon, have you ever used a FLSUN speeder pad? There is no resume print option in it, when ever there is a power cut, the pad restarts and it doesn't show resume print option, is it the same with creality sonic pad?
This is probably one of the best reviews of this product I have ever seen!, I cannot reccomend it enough. Ever thought of sending it to creality and showing them how its done!
Yes, use obico, ssh into the pad, follow their installation instructions on their website and you got full control from anywhere. I just set up mine and have been following my print from work, 5 miles away from home. Without a 3rd party Software, no, it doesn't natively support remote access
Hey I have watched this video and set up printer and sonic pad. I am having an issue where after it homes and starts a print it prints that starter line off the left side of bed and then starts to print project off center to the left… Any chance for some help on how to resolve this issue?? Thanks in advance
Just have my Sonic Pad and finding out features. One thing to come my mind, that there can be cheaper version without screen and configures trought web-interface. Or why there is no printer where is klipper already?
There is the FLSUN V400 which already has Klipper and I'm sure there'll be plenty more. Creality could offer something like that - but since Klipper is Open Source - not sure how they could make any money from it.
Thanks for the great tutorial, Can you tell us if it is necessary to open configuration file for saving resonance test values or the Sonic Pad does that itself? Thanks in advance
My sonic pad has arrived today, your video is going to make setting up cura loads smoother so cheers for that! I understand the newer firmware for the sonic pad has been updated to do the resonance test on the Y axis in the tutorial so will see what happens a bit later on...
@@TheTechnologyMan the updated firmware is an improvement but it still isn't perfect. They illustrate the sensor going in the centre of the bed however the x axis gantry is too low to enable you to fix it as depicted. I used some masking tape on the bed and some double sided sticky tape on the sensor. Worked fine on the 1st attempt.
Thankyou for clearing up the bedslinger accelerometer issue that has been plaguing my mind. I could not see how it could work on a non core XY machine. It makes sense that you would want to use it on both axes to get the combined results. It sounds like you have to have the 4.2.7 board to be able to use the Pad though. No Ender 3 support is a killer for me. I see no point in having to buy a new Creality printer just to be able to use the sonic pad.
I found a Sonic Pad on a discount so I couldn't resist. I have an original Ender, unmodified, but am just about to upgrade to a 4.2.7 board finally. Here's my question: With the new board, can I just choose V2 on the Pad and set it up without problems? Have also purchased the creality Z axis stepper motor upgrade kit but will wait to install until I have the pad/klipper up and running.
I probably wouldn't buy my friend. I have gotten 4 and they are certainly not as plug and play as this video would make it seem. I would highly consider acquiring the real klipper that you can acquire from the klipper discord which is completely free along with looking up "Mod Bot Klipper installation" as he will walk you through how to set up proper klipper using a Rasberry pi or for me and him we use dedicated laptops old junkies ones will do even with like 2gb of ram. These sonic pads are giving me hell and there is 0 English customer support for them I've been calling the customer support number for hours with no luck.
you're always welcome to give it a shot don't let me dissuade you they worked great for a week and a half but now they quite literally shut down my printer with an error code KEY_298 MCU LOST COMMUNICATION which is similar to the red ring of death on an XBOX 360. I hope you have better luck than I do with this endeavor, but the sonic pad is certainly not the way to go if you're not willing to dedicate hundreds of hours of figuring out the code.
also to be clear apparently this isn't real "Klipper" as the guys who actually make the open source software DESPICE this machine and absolutely REFUSE to give any advice or help they will simply tell you to return them and to download their software instead with a lengthy ass coding process, but once again MOD BOT is your go to if you are certain you want Klipper which even with the Sonic Pads Klipper is absolutely ground breaking technology.
I've updated to the latest firmware. I can confirm, the resonance testing through the standard options on the Sonic Pad covers X and Y axis now. Thank you for saving me hours of hair pulling!
I tried to import the cura profiles as you mentioned in the video. Still, I got an error saying that the quality type "fast" is not compatible with the active machine definition "creality_base'. Did that occur to you?
How do I import the sonic pad profile into cura I tried with the instructions and failed can you please make a video or point me In the right direction thank you. I have the ender 3s1
@@TheTechnologyMan i was talking about using the sonic pad as a display offline while running the 3d printer, will it show the g code as it runs, like it does when you run a cnc milling machine or lathe
I ordered the sonic pad it will be here in December. I'm new to 3d printing. I see you set up temps, retraction, print speed and settings in cura, but you also can set them on the ender software. Just confused on that part. On how that works.
They've added a few new printers recently to hopefully. You can see the printers they've just added: www.creality.com/blog/some-main-upgrades-of-creality-sonic-pad-on-october-2022?fbclid=IwAR3RImpZYLTtIPkHythE7dUc9uD6czJHkaUj0KQYzB-9LFnR56LR7bctxuU
Check the link in the description - Creality have added many printers to the Sonic Pad since my review. I'll hopefully being doing a follow up video soon.
Would it be at all possible to. share your g-code file for the ringing tower. I did download the STL, but tried to understand which parameters to change in Cora 5.1, according to the documentation you linked. I am very new to this 3D printing, and even less familiar with Sonic Pad and klipper. I have run. the resonance test, and the newest firmware version does both X and Y shaping. But, my main concern is getting a proper ringing tower print to see how it worked. A pointer to the g-code for that file, OR the list of proper Cura 5.1 settings to modify would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
@@TheTechnologyMan I started to, but the Klipper documentation link made a bunch of slicing suggestions, including # of tops, bottoms, walls, thickness, speed etc that are not my standard settings. It. even suggested if possible to use vase mode. The suggestions unfortunately didn't match the Cura settings that I can see in the software, and I wasn't able to translate the. documentation suggested slicer settings into Cura (I am very new to this). I did start to run it, but it certainly didn't seem that vase mode was working (or even should work), and I didn't see anything accellerating, so I cancelled the print.
I have just purchased a Sonic Pad and installed it successfully. I am using an Ender 3 V2 printer with manual leveling. I have done all settings required for Sonic Pad to the extent I have understood from the manual and your UA-cam video. I understand from your video that, for faster printing, I have to set higher print speed in Ultimaker Cura. I am using 5.2.1 version. My question, what maximum print speed can be set for printing with PLA with no loss of quality?
I have the first 3S1 and added the Sprite Pro Extruder (along with the light bar and bed insulation). When setting up the Sonic Pad, should I choose 3S1 or 3S1 Pro ? I also noticed that there were a couple of choices for each of those printers. How do we know which one we have?
Hello I am running a V2 / mriscoc / sprite ,, my question is can I run the Sonic pad with mriscoc or would I have to revert to original software or install klipper
I'm upgrading from an Ender 3 v2 running octopi to an S1 Pro with sonic pad. Thank you so much for this video, it gives me somewhere to start. Excellent in depth review!!
I have followed your video as I also have an S1 Pro + SonicPad. One thing I am missing after going from Octoprint is notifications when print is complete. Maybe you have an idea how to get such plugin working for the SonicPad?
Hello - enjoying your videos as a novice to 3D printing. My new Sonic Pad does not have an IP address in the WiFi menu tab (only in the LAN page). Creality tech support says that the Pad cannot be controlled via a web browser. ?? Can you give some insight into this issue?
@@TheTechnologyMan Thank you for your reply and your advice. For whatever reason (I made no changes) when I disconnected and reconnected the WiFi - the IP address appeared and I could access it via my web browser. Oddly, it will only recognize the 2.4G network and not the 5G? Creality chat support told me that it would be a future capability to control the Pad via a web browser. ?? Well, it is working for me now. Anyway, thank you for your time and information. I am saving and reviewing your videos. You and a couple others have been gracious enough to respond to my queries. Cheers.
Thank you for the great video, i have the ender 5 S1 and currently installing my new sonic pad, i have completed 4/5 steps and machine begins the auto level process and when it starts the test...the CR probe completely misses the bed and stops, not really sure how to fix, I would greatly appreciate your expertise and any help please. thx Charlie
Thanks for getting back to me, I have manually leveled the bed and with no problems. Once I enter next step and preform the auto level process, the first test of the probe goes to the number one position "block" and when the head lowers the probe misses the bed to the left by like 3/8 to 1/2 inch therefore the test can not continue as the probe does not touch the bed. Thanks and hope this explains it better.
Hi, I have a modify ender 5 plus with a working aere of 400x400x800. Is it possible to change the normal 350x350x400 value in the Sonic pad, when I secelect the ender 5 plus profil on it.....thank's
On my Sonic I don't see the remaining time and the layer count? Do you have any ideas? I've gone through the settings but can't find anything. Thanks? And thanks for the heads up on sending prints directly to my S1, what a difference that alone has made, no more removing the card.
Hey nice vid, do you have a confic file for the flsun SR ? I copy the confic file from the speeder pad to an USB Stick an the install it on the sonic pad. It´s still working, but the Z offset Button is not on the screen. Do have any idea ?
Thank you for your video, it has helped me a lot, but I have a problem when trying to import the profiles downloaded from Creality for cura, it tells me that there is an error when importing the profile: "the type of quality fast is not compatible with the definition Current active machine creality_base, I have followed all your steps. What could it be? Thanks again for your help.
I did briefly mention this in video - you need to follow the whole setup in the manual for this to work properly - including adding the printer as described otherwise you get this message.
Great video. I picked one up and it was a breeze to setup but when I shut down the printer I had to reconfigure it when turning it back on. Hopefully this time it will save my settings when I shut it down today. Great video, I learned a lot more than I can digest in one sitting about this Sonic Pad and what it can do. Your video helped me understand a lot of the features I didn’t know about.
Absolutely excellent video and compressive looking at ordering this shortly. As I do a lot of filament i have been looking for information on doing this with sonic pad but cannot find any information on doing it. can you steer me to any information please.
Thanks! You can still use the Sonic Pad with other filament - you might just need a little experimentation depending on what filament you're using. I'd ask for specifics on the Facebook forum or something similar.
Great channel and presentation. Cool product. Just recently got my first 3d printer (ender 3s1pro) and love it. Sounds like this is a great upgrade. Should we be concerned about motor lifespan being reduced with speeding up?
Thanks! Printing faster will probably wear parts a little quicker but I'd just make sure nothing's rattling around and the prints are coming out ok and not worry too much about it.
Hi I have an ender 7 and my configuration file, duse the pad make the .bin file after it lodes the .cfg to the pad. How do I get the .bin file? Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks
Creality provide notes for creating the firmware .bin file - by no currently it's not provided by the pad. If you're not comfortable doing this yourself I'd imagine the forums will start having files ready to download soon if not already!
Hello! What happens if I connect this to a ender 3 v2 with a GD chip (the worse one) and a sprite extruder with cr touch? I have so many issues with stock settings, that might be the solution to my problems. I need to change my bed size somehow... Probe location I managed to change, but during automatic bed leveling... Ugh. I hate it.
Check on Creality's site if you mainboard is supported. Then you'll need to tweak Klipper to work with your setup. There's help available but customising Klipper is not for the faint hearted if you're new to all this!
Just as a heads up to everyone, it also now supports the CR-6 SE and MAX. BUT, when you buy it you will have to upgrade the firmware on the pad itself to access these features which is pretty straight forward, download the firmware, load it onto a memory stick, insert the memory stick, and it will prompt to upgrade the firmware for the sonic pad.
Great video! How would you modify klipper or the firmware for Ender3 V2 upgrades such as runout sensor, CR Touch and Sprite pro extruder? Extruder can run at higher temp, probe placement is way off from stock hot end position. I’m not sure how to apply these mods in Klipper, much more familiar with Marlin. Thanks
Thanks for the well made movie. I got finally my Ender 3 S1 running with the Sonic Pad, the only problem ido have is the Creality HD 1080P Camera. I'm no getting that thing to work. In Cura latest version I installed Moonraker plus my IP and webcam?action=stream and the result is 502 Bad Gateway. do you got an idea? Thanks in advance Kurt
@@TheTechnologyMan Yes, I got it on my laptop without any problems. I changed the webcam.txt even to auto saved it without any change. The camera works fine withe the Creality Wifi box, on the Sonic pad there is not even the blue LED on. Measured the output voltage on both back USB port, the result is 5.13 V. Creality did'nt answer yet chinese new year. :(
Great Video which helped me setting up my sonic pad. Unfortunately, it won't let me connect to the printer over the rear USB ports. I have to use one of the ones on the side. Is anyone having a solution for this?
Is this in Cura? Extensions, Post Processing and Modify G-Code. I cover this briefly in the video but the manual also shows you how to enable in other slicers.
With the latest Ender 3 S1 Pro firmware I can now select the hot end or the laser when starting the printer. That huge if applied to the Sonic Pad. Any chance to revert to the printer firmware to use the laser and then go back to the sonic pad? Do I have to reconfigure the printer from scratch? Thanks
This Sonic Pad looks to have so much potential, but the difficulty of setting it up most probably scares away more than 90% of those who are interested in it. You would think Creality would go out of their way to import as many printer profiles as possible, in order to make this a "GO TO" device. To see them dragging their feet to do so, is head scratching, as they are leaving tons of money and popularity on the table. Also, you show in the description that the October 31st update added the "CR10 Smart" to the list of default printers, so that brings the question for me of does that mean that the successor "CR10 Smart PRO" will be able to use that setting as well, or are the different boards of the two printers too different??? If MY "CR10 Smart PRO" would work with this Sonic Pad, as I'm assuming it would, I will have to buy this and do the work to get it going. Also, in the latest update, have they done anything to make it easier to view a webcam over a browser from outside your home/local network?? That's an important factor as well. Thanks for a great detailed vid. I've subbed, and look forward to seeing more from your channel, as this is the first vid I've seen of yours. You speak like your on ten cups of strong coffee, but that's what the pause button is for... Cheers!
@@TheTechnologyMan- I decided to buy a separate security pan/tilt wifi camera, that can be accessed any time from anywhere in the world over the net. Now I don't have to depend on Creality to see my printer in action from outside my home network. It's an easy, simple and efficient solution. Of course my CR10 Smart Pro already comes with an ethernet port and HD camera, but I wanted something that can pan and tilt to my liking, so this new camera was a no brainer. And it's a much higher definition at 2K.
Mines on order I am hoping I can connect it my original Ender 3, I have a silent board fitted in it but can’t recall what it is, not sure if it’s 8 bit or 32 bit. Thinking that if it’s the 8 bit board I could replace it with the S2 board and that should work. Will look closer at it when I get the sonic pad. Don’t fancy trying setting it up as a non creality printer as klipper is just too much for me. Built a Voron 6 months ago and gave up on it.
I haven't tried it with my Ender 3 yet. I don't think it will be too bad getting it working with a Creality printer. There are config files available on Github and should be lots of support available when more people have the pads.
Hi I have just won a sonic pad in creality and wondering dose the sonic pad cover moor printers than the ender as I have a cr10 smart and cr10s and a ender I was wondering if the version it get will cover moor printers like you said hopefully there cover moor printers and hopefully mine thank you
hi great video I want to buy a sonic pad for my s1 pro however im having abl issues on the stock firmware and am unsure if the sonic pad will fix this.. can you manually edit the mesh after probing on the sonic pad? thanks for any input
It can't help if there's a fault with your levelling sensor. But Klipper has its own levelling process so you might get on better with it if it's not a fault. You an tweak the bed screws for a perfect bed with a bit of patience as I show in video.
@@TheTechnologyMan thanks the only way i can get a decent first layer at the moment is if i reset eprom with m502 then manually level and write off abl all together.. other option is level to mesh as you mention but then it seems worse than scrapping abl all together i honestly think it is a problem with how the mesh is created in firmmware with f4 chips
I have two questions - is it necessary to leave the accelerometer attached to the printer once you've completed the resonance setup, and also, I have an Ender S1 non-pro version. I want to upgrade the hotend to the pro version, or at least the upgraded internal parts, to handle higher temperatures for TPU, ABS, PETG, etc. Are the max temp settings adjustable on the Klipper or do you somehow need to load S1 pro firmware for this to work?
No you can remove the accelerometer. If you just upgrade the hotend you won't need to load S1 Pro firmware, but you will have to tweak your existing settings for the new hotend.
Is pressure advance possible on the Ender 3 v2 boards (4.2.2 and 4.2.7)? Or is it the same case as linear advance on those boards, namely a no-go due to the silent stepper motors? Excellent introduction to the Sonic Pad, BTW!
@@TheTechnologyMan Thank you very much for getting back to me. Having not long upgraded to a Mosquito and Bondtech combo the 160 quid required is a little elusive at the moment. But this additional bit of information means that the Sonic Pad is now definitely in my cross hairs.
I read that Creality recently added the S1 Plus to the Sonic Pad. I’m worried that the one I ordered might have outdated firmware. Is there a way to update the firmware on the sonic pad before selecting your printer during the setup menu?
Just got my Sonic Pad delivered and your video will make the setup process a lot easier and more optimised with the Y axis input shaper, thanks. When I bought it, I read you can monitor the prints through a web browser, I didn't realise this was just over a local network! I know you said "there's no internet remote access - not without some extra work anyway", is there anywhere I can find out what the extra work is to get it working? I've searched but can't find anything on it.
Great glad the video helped! If you search "port forwarding" that should get you started. You need to setup your router to allow external connections to the Sonic Pad. But definately ensure you have a secure password setup. That's one way anyway.
Has anyone used the Creality Sonic Pad interface to change the fan speed mid-print? I have and it keeps reverting to the gcode setting after a few seconds. Why have an interface to make adjustments mid-print if they won’t stick? Am I doing something wrong?
I have an Ender 3v2 with a Microswiss direct drive extruder and a BL Touch. The ender S1 also has this type of hardware, but in a slightly different configuration. Can I use the sonic pad and just setup as S1 printer, or do I have to create custom firmware? Thanks
Good review; its a bit buggy though imho. I may go back to octoprint+PI, which is far more stable. Considering how new the product is; not shocked. Things I noticed out of box: 1. bed leveling was terrible; just ended up doing the old fashion way (print a bunch of boxes whilst fiddling with the bed screws, manually set z in printer.cfg). 2.if you try to change settings during a print all sorts of weird things can happen (temp going to zero, reboots, etc) 3. Camera behavior seems odd; sometimes works; sometimes doesn't. Nice side; klipper can be deployed in 15-20mins with very little knowledge; huge upgrade for any ender. (and a Working screen!, been years since I've had one)
@@TheTechnologyMan yep; agreed. Worth the price IMHO; getting alot of for the cost of a rapberry pi. what i eventually found to fix bed leveling; squish the bed springs or print solid mounts for bed. Then heat bed and run bed_mesh on each print_start. This assumes your z probe calibration is a good number. I calibrate z right over a solid mount and use that as the "z-axis" source of truth. I still kind of wonder if you could script out load draw on the z-axis and auto stop motor when amperage spikes due to hitting bed; getting a true number each print start for 0 z_location. Nozzle tap without switch and get the true absolute value for z=0.
Anyone knows how to do the resonance test with modified fan shroud like the Briss oder Satsana? The provided bracket for the printers surely only fits standard shrouds .
If you get a Cura crash error that keeps popping up after you installed Moonraker it probably has to do with the extra /# at the end of the IP address used
Thank you for the great service and efforts you put into this. It's very comprehensive, I just got started with mine. I sure feel like an amateur and compared to your skill set and knowledge. 💪🇺🇸😎
Thank you for your comment - really appreciate it and I'm glad the video helped you out! Have fun with it!
The S1 Pro is a bed slinger.
The manual says to put it on the bed of you got a bed slinger
Just got mine a couple of days ago. Tuned my entire printer all over again, used pressure advance, input shaping, everything. Even put extra software (obico) on there to enable remote access so i can check in on my prints and printer feom anywhere i want outside of my home network. I love how i can change the printer firmware right on the pad instead of having to compile or flash different firmwares every time.
I was a. Bit skeptical bur now i wish i had this pad three years ago!
Great!
Have you checked Klipper support for the the C210? You may just to modify the config.
Advertising this as a "plug and play" for Creality printers feels like a lie for people like myself who have never used klipper before.
you need to pin this to the top so people see it.....
Just ordered one for my S1 pro. Great review and so refreshing to see you mostly reply to most questions in here. New subscriber, great work mate :)
Thanks - I try! Hope you enjoy the printer when it arrives.
Thanks! I do hope they do include profiles for all their printers. There does seem to be a lot of interest in the pad so it's in their interests.
Just got mine today, ton more profiles than at the time of this video, including my CR-10 S5!
Great video to understand all the features of this nice bit of hardware
Do you or any one know if it can be used on an enders 7
Thanks glad the video helped! Best check Creality for latest hardware support - seems to change weekly!
@@TheTechnologyMan I found out that it does work with the Enders 7, But you have to manually set it up as no automatic profile like the Enders 3 series
Juat a note in a update they have allowed you to get root ssh access
this is massive win
Yes thanks it's very useful. I released this video quite early on.
Thank you! I'd love to see the Sonic Pad used with a third party printer please.
Wow - I'm gobsmacked! Thank you so much that's far too kind! I do hope to have it running with the FLSUN SR soon - what printer would you like to see? Can't promise anything - but will do my best!
@@TheTechnologyMan I'd love to see it with an Elegoo Neptune 3, but totally understand if you don't have one 😄
More so wanting to see what the Sonic Pad runs like on other printers 😄. Thank you so much!
@@waldobroodryk Ah don’t have that one!
@@TheTechnologyMan ah, I can send more money if you want to buy one? Another $200 should cover it?
@@waldobroodryk you seem like a great dude. Good on you for supporting content creators that give the community useful info. I hope you have an amazing day!
Just got my sonic pad today. I had a klipper setup on a pi but liked the idea of more optimized profiles and the input shaper accelerometer. The tip on using the bed for Y was great and am just about to do that. great video thanks!
No problem glad it helped! Have fun playing with the new toy ;)!
10:06 You can also get 235x235 X and Y sized prints instead of 220x220 with this thing?
That will depend on your printer - you just set it to your printer bed size - usually allowing for a small border.
Is there a way to send from Prusa to sonic pad ? like moon racker
I use Octoprint with a Raspberry Pi with my Prusa printers. But you could use the Sonic Pad.
14:00 How can I customize this progress screen? I'd like remove\hide axes positions line, in that place put the number of Layers line. Is it possible? Right now I can't see "Number of layers" line at all.
Not sure that's possible right now.
The number of layers line is right there though, last line above the three option buttons
I'd ask Creality or on the Facebook forums - hopefully someone can help.
Great tip!
Everything is working well getting the Sonic Pad set up with my Ender 3 S1 Pro, but when I try to import the profiles into Cura, it errors and tells me that the quality types "normal" and "fast" are incompatible with the current active machine definition.
You need to follow the instructions when setting up the printer for the profiles to load correctly - I show this in the video.
Make sure you're running an up to date version of Cura.
Sounds like you're making good progress!
you can setup a dnsapp to get your ip and setup remote access ports from your modem to have access outside your home
It does take a little getting used to but hopefully you can get it to do what you want.
So you don't need to have the g-sensor plugged in all the time?
That’s right - only for the resonance measurements. Which you only need to do occasionally.
@@TheTechnologyMan Thanks! How is the y-axis measured (bed slinger) - do you have to redo the sonsor on the bed?
I show how to do this in the video.
If you Google port forwarding - it's pretty straight forward but you need to make sure you have a secure password for your Sonic Pad.
Hi Gidon, have you ever used a FLSUN speeder pad? There is no resume print option in it, when ever there is a power cut, the pad restarts and it doesn't show resume print option, is it the same with creality sonic pad?
Hi - I've still not tested the Speeder Pad 😳 - hopefully soon! IIRC the Sonic Pad has a resume function.
@@TheTechnologyMan i definitely would switch to sonic pad then
This is probably one of the best reviews of this product I have ever seen!, I cannot reccomend it enough. Ever thought of sending it to creality and showing them how its done!
Many thanks - much appreciated!
I can’t seem to find a straight answer anywhere on the internet, can you remotely pause/stop the print using the sonic pad while away from home?
You'd have to remotely log in to your computer, or setup port forwarding to you Sonic Pad on your router. Then you could control the printer.
Yes, use obico, ssh into the pad, follow their installation instructions on their website and you got full control from anywhere. I just set up mine and have been following my print from work, 5 miles away from home. Without a 3rd party Software, no, it doesn't natively support remote access
can not find the profiles for fast printing. Might you point me in the right direction?
You can download them from the Creality site.
I have a C920 as well and I cant get it to work. It displays video in the webui and the sonic pad but fails to save anything.
Strange - have configured the webcam.txt file?
I have huge problems leveling my CR-10 S5 bed. I want to get this, but not sure if my printer is supported
I went ahead and purchased it, if it's not compatible, I'll just return it.
Good luck!
Hey I have watched this video and set up printer and sonic pad.
I am having an issue where after it homes and starts a print it prints that starter line off the left side of bed and then starts to print project off center to the left…
Any chance for some help on how to resolve this issue??
Thanks in advance
I'd check your start g-code and make sure the printer is set up properly in Cura.
I mostly print with tpu. I'm curious if I'll see any added benefit to the actual speed of something being printed
TPU is tricky - you might get slightly faster prints - but not much in it - in my experience at least.
i have a CR10v3 and just got a sonic pad. I have added a CRtouch ABL but i have no idea how to add the probe to the profile
any idea on what to do?
Take a look at the excellent Klipper documentation - that's where I'd start.
Thanks for the great tutorial,
Can you tell us if it is necessary to open configuration file for saving resonance test values or the Sonic Pad does that itself? Thanks in advance
Glad it helped! It's a while since I did this and on older firmware. Am planning an update to this video so will double check then.
@@TheTechnologyMan sure thing! thanks a lot
Great video! Any idea why the build volume is different that creality gives to you to add a new machine for the new cura profiles?
Thanks! Sorry I'm not sure exactly what you mean?
My sonic pad has arrived today, your video is going to make setting up cura loads smoother so cheers for that! I understand the newer firmware for the sonic pad has been updated to do the resonance test on the Y axis in the tutorial so will see what happens a bit later on...
Yes that's right - I hope to do a video with some of the latest updates soon.
Yes I hope they add more printers soon.
How did you connect the printer to the USB port on the back? My printer only works with the USB1 port on the side of the Sonic Pad.
I'll check next time I'm at the printer - perhaps something has changed in the latest firmware ...
@@TheTechnologyMan Found it. USB port is defined in config file. Changed from 1 to 3 and that's it.
I just got mine but I'm really confused on how to setup the web interface if you mind can you help?
All you need to do is enter the IP address of the Sonic Pad in your browser - I show this in the video 😊.
If that's the board in the V2 that should work - but maybe check on the Sonic Pad forum - I've not done this myself.
@@TheTechnologyMan Thanks, you mean on the creality site? I saw on the screen during setup that under the V2 it says 4.2.7 so I figure I should be ok
I've updated to the latest firmware. I can confirm, the resonance testing through the standard options on the Sonic Pad covers X and Y axis now. Thank you for saving me hours of hair pulling!
Yes I must do a follow up video with all the new features!
I tried to import the cura profiles as you mentioned in the video. Still, I got an error saying that the quality type "fast" is not compatible with the active machine definition "creality_base'. Did that occur to you?

Would it be at all possible to. share your g-code file for the ringing tower. I did download the STL, but tried to understand which parameters to change in Cora 5.1, according to the documentation you linked. I am very new to this 3D printing, and even less familiar with Sonic Pad and klipper. I have run. the resonance test, and the newest firmware version does both X and Y shaping. But, my main concern is getting a proper ringing tower print to see how it worked. A pointer to the g-code for that file, OR the list of proper Cura 5.1 settings to modify would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
You just print the ringing tower with your usual settings for printer / material combo - just like you print anything else - have you tried it?
@@TheTechnologyMan I started to, but the Klipper documentation link made a bunch of slicing suggestions, including # of tops, bottoms, walls, thickness, speed etc that are not my standard settings. It. even suggested if possible to use vase mode. The suggestions unfortunately didn't match the Cura settings that I can see in the software, and I wasn't able to translate the. documentation suggested slicer settings into Cura (I am very new to this).
That's hard to say - it will depend on the print and how fussy you are!
I have the first 3S1 and added the Sprite Pro Extruder (along with the light bar and bed insulation). When setting up the Sonic Pad, should I choose 3S1 or 3S1 Pro ? I also noticed that there were a couple of choices for each of those printers. How do we know which one we have?
i would put the 3s1 in case they have different motherboards
Yes choose the S1 and select the correct mainboard.
Will this work on a CR6 SE with a BTT board? I really want to print faster but find klipper daunting. This video is great source of information.
They have regular updates so check Creality's website for the latest info.

You'll flash the firmware anyway so should be OK but not something I've specifically done.
I'm upgrading from an Ender 3 v2 running octopi to an S1 Pro with sonic pad. Thank you so much for this video, it gives me somewhere to start. Excellent in depth review!!
Great really glad it helped!
I have followed your video as I also have an S1 Pro + SonicPad. One thing I am missing after going from Octoprint is notifications when print is complete. Maybe you have an idea how to get such plugin working for the SonicPad?
I'm using the RC Klipper 3D app - although can't remember if it has notifications off the top of my head.
how do you get it to print. everything shows 0% and temps are correct. just sits there. is there an issue with sensors?
Really hard to diagnose - can you use the printer without the Sonic Pad?
The new updates firmware includes a lot more printers and fixed all the issues I originally had including the input shaping tests.
Great to see!. I'm trying to add any updates to the video's description and the written article.
Hello - enjoying your videos as a novice to 3D printing. My new Sonic Pad does not have an IP address in the WiFi menu tab (only in the LAN page). Creality tech support says that the Pad cannot be controlled via a web browser. ?? Can you give some insight into this issue?
Not sure what they mean - yes it can be controlled from webpage - just enter the IP address from your SonicPad into your browser.
@@TheTechnologyMan Thank you for your reply and your advice. For whatever reason (I made no changes) when I disconnected and reconnected the WiFi - the IP address appeared and I could access it via my web browser. You need to check the version of your motherboard which unforunately does involve opening it up.
Thank you for the great video, i have the ender 5 S1 and currently installing my new sonic pad, i have completed 4/5 steps and machine begins the auto level process and when it starts the test...the CR probe completely misses the bed and stops, not really sure how to fix, I would greatly appreciate your expertise and any help please. thx Charlie
Not sure what you mean by misses the bed? Have you manually levelled the bed already?
Thanks for getting back to me,
I have manually leveled the bed and with no problems.
My cr10 has a bad motherboard board, will the sonic pad circumvent this issue
I don’t think so.

Hi - yes after initial setup you can configure the printer as you like.
On my Sonic I don't see the remaining time and the layer count? Do you have any ideas? I've gone through the settings but can't find anything. Thanks? And thanks for the heads up on sending prints directly to my S1, what a difference that alone has made, no more removing the card.

I ordered myself a Ender 3 neo, before I realized this thing exist. I hope they add support for that printer too at some point.
Check the latest firmware - they do update the supported printer list reguarly.
Hey nice vid, do you have a confic file for the flsun SR ? I copy the confic file from the speeder pad to an USB Stick an the install it on the sonic pad. It´s still working, but the Z offset Button is not on the screen. Do have any idea ?
I'm a little behind on my FLSUN Speeder Pad review - but hope to try the FLSUN config on the Sonic Pad when I do. And will try and provide a link.
Thank you for your reply, I will watch that part of the video again and pay more attention, I hope to fix it. 👍
Glad it helped!
Thanks for leaving a comment to help others! I do hope to do an update on the Sonic Pad soon!
Hello can you tell me if the Creality Sonic Pad works with the creality Cr 10 max?
Check the list of supported printers on Creality's site - they keep updating.
thanks best how to on sonic pad! how do we change esteps?
Thanks! Check out the Klipper docs for rotation distance: www.klipper3d.org/Rotation_Distance.html
@@TheTechnologyMan pls make video for dyslexics like me🙏
Great video! Thanks
Thanks. I'd suggest asking in the Facebook groups - bit too much to cover here. Have fun!
Is it possible to change e-steps? i have an ender 3 with a sprite pro extruder
Yes you can do e-steps calibartion with the Sonic Pad - in Klipper it's called Rotation Distance: www.klipper3d.org/Rotation_Distance.html
@@TheTechnologyMan Thank you!
Thanks in advance
Kurt
I've not tried it with the Creality camera - do you see the web interface ok?
That's odd - not had that issue sorry hopefully someone can help.
How did u get a preview image on your sonic pad? Everything I've printed never had a image.
Is this in Cura? Extensions, Post Processing and Modify G-Code. I cover this briefly in the video but the manual also shows you how to enable in other slicers.
Can this "add" WiFi to an ender 3 s1 pro? In other words, can I use this rather than the WiFi 2.0 box to send prints and start prints remotely?
Yes it connects physically to the printer and you can then send prints wirelessly as I show in the video.
Thanks
I would save the printer.cfg file just in case but not tried with very latest firmware.
Great video sir! I've got a sonic pad on the way and this is the kind of information I was looking to study before it arrives. Keep up the great work!
That's great - glad to help and enjoy the pad!
Cheers!
Thanks glad the video helped. No no remote access solution from Creality.
I can't seem to find list of printers that this works with. Can you help?
I do discuss and show this in video but currently the Ender 3 V2, S1 and S1 Pro.
Hi I have just won a sonic pad in creality and wondering dose the sonic pad cover moor printers than the ender as I have a cr10 smart and cr10s and a ender I was wondering if the version it get will cover moor printers like you said hopefully there cover moor printers and hopefully mine thank you
Thanks! Yes it's a huge upgrade from the Ender 3!
hi great video I want to buy a sonic pad for my s1 pro however im having abl issues on the stock firmware and am unsure if the sonic pad will fix this.. can you manually edit the mesh after probing on the sonic pad? thanks for any input
Hi, if you fit the sonic pad, can you remove the old touch pad from the printer?
Great info and video 👍
Yes I assume you can - not actually done it so can't say for sure though!
Is pressure advance possible on the Ender 3 v2 boards (4.2.2 and 4.2.7)? Or is it the same case as linear advance on those boards, namely a no-go due to the silent stepper motors? Excellent introduction to the Sonic Pad, BTW!
Thanks! Klipper is handling the pressure advance should be ok.
Yes you can update the firmware on the Sonic Pad - IIRC it prompts you when it has internet connectivity.
Hello, can you control multiple printers with one sonic pad? By multiple I mean 2 or 4 thank you!
Not at the moment! I cover this in the video - you can switch printer but you'll need to back up your settings.
@@TheTechnologyMan Thanks, I'll have a go and see if I can get it working. Keep up the great videos!
Where can I find that Jack O Lantern model?
fab365.net/items/164 - it's a great print!
Has anyone used the Creality Sonic Pad interface to change the fan speed mid-print? I have and it keeps reverting to the gcode setting after a few seconds. Why have an interface to make adjustments mid-print if they won’t stick? Am I doing something wrong?
I'll check again but IIRC it works fine for me.
I have an Ender 3v2 with a Microswiss direct drive extruder and a BL Touch. The ender S1 also has this type of hardware, but in a slightly different configuration. Can I use the sonic pad and just setup as S1 printer, or do I have to create custom firmware?
Thanks
If the printer's board is supported you can use the Sonic Pad. You'll just need to adjust the printer.cfg for your setup.
I’ve recently purchased an Ender 3 S1 Pro myself, and I’ve been thinking of recording my prints. How’ve you attached your camera please?
You can use the USB port on the Sonic Pad.
Good review; its a bit buggy though imho. I may go back to octoprint+PI, which is far more stable. Considering how new the product is; not shocked.
Things I noticed out of box:
1. bed leveling was terrible; just ended up doing the old fashion way (print a bunch of boxes whilst fiddling with the bed screws, manually set z in printer.cfg).
2.if you try to change settings during a print all sorts of weird things can happen (temp going to zero, reboots, etc)
3. Camera behavior seems odd; sometimes works; sometimes doesn't.
Nice side; klipper can be deployed in 15-20mins with very little knowledge; huge upgrade for any ender. (and a Working screen!, been years since I've had one)
That's what you're paying for - quick Klipper integration with a nice screen and WiFi / Ethernet / USB.
If it doesn't fit I'm sure you could knock up a simple L bracket to attach it - doesn't need to be anything fancy.
Is the Creality Ender 3V3 SE compatible with the sonic pad?
Not sure off hand. You’d need to check Creality’s website.
If you get a Cura crash error that keeps popping up after you installed Moonraker it probably has to do with the extra /# at the end of the IP address used
👍
