Honestly ever since the CNC reviews and upgrades I’ve been watching. Might want to check out the MPCNC (mostly printed CNC) that’s under $700 to build and can mill aluminum or cut steel if you add a laser cutter.
@@dawn9340 I really enjoy it and the fact I built it myself is pretty cool. I used it to cut some 6mm APC board for my 3D printer build and it worked out great but thats pretty soft and thin Aluminum. I have some 8mm sheet stock but I am not sure what to make from it yet. lol

I'm glad you specifically mentioned the V2 Neo. A couple months ago I got one as my first 3D printer specifically because it came with the upgrades that I felt I would end up adding anyway, but then I came to find out how new the printer was and that if I wanted to add anything to it I needed to take a chance that it shared V2 part similarities or compatibility. Nothing is listed for the new printers yet.

In several places there was only speculation that it would work, but never real proof. Just because of that, I subscribed to your channel. Very informative video! Those of us with the v2 neo dont be disheartened. Ive had the v2 neo for a few weeks now and got it tuned up with the sonic pad and added a dual z screw for about thirty dollars. I Just printed a near perfect benchy in 1 hour 11 minutes.

As many times as I've seen people raving about the benefits of Klipper, I've completely avoided making that switch myself because I'm wigged about the idea of messing around with the firmware. Knowing that I could take my Ender 3, swap out that 1.1.5 silent board for a 32-bit board, and plug it into an external device to do the job with relatively little fuss is really something. Great review!
It seems you've got Creality's ear! A single Sonic Pad can now handle up to four printers. Apparently they've also made it easier to use with pretty much any FDM printer. I've got an Ender 5 S1 and Sonic Pad arriving Thursday and I'm looking forward to seeing what this pairing can do.

And finally I greet the delivery guy on the porch arms outstretched like a giddy child on Christmas morning ((53y/o here) only to discover that since I have an ender 3 pro it is not so plug and play and I am too ignorant to fix it on my own and until now had found no one online Reddit, UA-cam etc., and I have been patiently waiting for her to release this very video. In the lastest firmware update for the Sonic Pad, they added several printer profiles, including one for the "CR10 Smart". However they do NOT have the "CR10 Smart PRO" on there that I've seen. As they have different boards in them, I am assuming that this is not a usable profile for the Smart PRO. Why would they add the older, less updated Smart, and leave out the Smart Pro??? Anyway, I'd love for you to do a video of adding the Sonic Pad to the CR10 Smart Pro, and show the results. Also, I'd love to know where you got the 5015 blower for your 5 S1 Pro, as I can't find it anywhere. Thanks for all the well rounded and professionally done vids by you and your brother. I hope to get an answer to these questions, as I have a lot riding on it. Lastly, if you have time, I'd love to see a compare/contrast between the Ender 5 S1 Pro, and the Smart Pro. Thanks. Cheers!
I love your reviews. I did also find the z offset issue with my sonic pad. I feel like a fool since I haven't found a way to direct send the print to the pad or printer from my laptop with moonraker. Thanks for the great efforts you put into this keep the info flowing 😎

Great video. If only my experience was as smooth as yours. My sonic pad didn't even have the same steps loaded on it as yours did. I never saw anything about loading a usb into the pad.
The Biqu CB1 with their 4b adapter board has been a great deal for replacing the need for an official raspberry pi. For about 60 dollars US you can get a pi3 equivalent for running klipper.

I am fine with my stock Ender 3 and Ender5plus and I am not in a hurry. Using Marlin and well tested profiles for my preferred Ideamaker guarantees perfect prints, no ringing, no surface artefacts. My Enders are running 24/7 since 3 years without any issues. Never touch a running system.

I'm very excited to see where Creality takes this hardware, it has a lot of potential and looks like a hell of a good start. The results are disappointing however. Hopefully they'll be able to take full advantage of it's potential in the future and we'll see better results. I completely agree that adding custom printers would be a huge improvement to the few profiles they currently have. Damn good review.
UPDATE: Yesterday Creality released an update to SonicPad that allows 4 printers to be controlled from one pad! I tested this today by adding a second printer to the SonicPad controlling the Ender 3 S1 Pro (My Ender 5 Plus has is own as it is located elsewhere). Easy peasy setup and operational just as the first one was. What a great value! I am going to sell my two PI's and screens...I like this better..all supported, minutes to install, less expensive. what is not to like? My onlystrange issue is that in Cura 5.2.1 the Build Plate temperature disappears with the provided Cura profiles. It is checked off in Cura settings, but is somehow surpressed- this forces me to adjust when I go to print- although easy, you shouldn't have to--looking in to this now.
Hi Aurora. Like everyone here, we all really appreciate anther excellent and detailed review for which we're grateful. One point if I may - you tend to 'speed' over some of the more important technical issues as to why by example, some of the changes you make are needed and for those of us who are not technical - it quickly becomes confusing in trying to understand what the change is, why it is needed and I would ask that you just take a moment to better explain and 'walk' us through the issue and what you're doing to resolve it.
Is there anyway you could do a video on how to set up the sonic pad on a cr 10 smart. There is a lack of information/documentation on the proper way to do it. The steps you have provided for the printers in your video are spot on and I was just wondering with the amount of knowledge you have, if you could provide some insight that creality has not provided on the proper way to use the sonic pad with the cr 10 smart. As I just calibrated mine - it would appear that they have updated the process a bit and it allows you the ability to move the calibration sensor between X and Y resonance. I havent done the pressure advance part yet, but I am already noticing the difference between the stock and the Klipper. Running a test cube as we speak after doing the resonance...
I watched another video to find what the purpose of the resonance test is for. He said it’s similar to what noise cancelling headphones do. Although obvious, they sample the noise at your ears and not your feet. So the resonance test needs to measure the frequencies as the print head sees them. By putting the sensor on the bed during the Y-axis readings, you are taking the vibrations that travel through the z-axis lead screws and through the rollers the print head rides on out of the equation. I suggest running the test both ways and print something tall to see if there are any noticeable differences. Maybe that is why you are not able to get faster speeds on some of your tests Aurora.
Another analogy of this is the large mass dampers near the top of tall skyscrapers. They dampen the sway of the building they feel at the top especially during earthquakes, not what is happening at the base. If the bed of the printer is reading higher vibration levels than what the print head sees, it will overcompensate for it in the software. Since I'm going to install the Sonic Pad on an S1 Plus that has a bigger bed (hence, more mass), I may see a more noticeable difference between compensation and no compensation on it. The printer overall is more massive so there could be less vibration going to the printhead compared to a standard size printer.

My question is, how hard/easy would it be to set it up for an S1 then modify the build volume area? Or set up as S1 Pro and change build area? I have already ordered my sonic pad, but until I have a better idea of how to be able to adjust the build volume I won’t use it.
I have klipper on my ender 3v2 and was able to get a 15 minute benchy with no drop in print quality. You need to set min layer time and min feature size in cura so it slows down on the smaller features. You can also go way higher on acceleration with has a big impact on speed on smaller prints
@@Nici619 I had a 10 second min with a 85mm/sec min speed. For small feature it was 6mm diameter with a 85% reduction in speed. 150 was max print speed with a max acceleration of 8500
@@redline3036 I will take a video after I finish printing my ikea lack enclosure parts. My ender is also not stock, I am using a dragon hotend with cht nozzle, stealthburner cooling with 5015 fan. I also ditched the glass bed and went to pei spring steel. I just set up my work printer with klipper on a ender 3 s1 and 35 minutes was the fastest I could get due to cooling issues on the haul.
New version of firmware tells you to tighten all bed knobs, then it has you do Z, then you go back to level four corners- I didn't do level four corners, instead used the auto bed leveling and made a few tweaks, then re-ran and saved the auto bed config. It prints fabulously. I also pushed a few test models to 200% which was around 250mm/sed and got useable prints. For example, was able to print the bunny at this speed and it looked great. I should note I did do the vibration calibration on X and Y axis and the rest of my machine was already tuned, but for good measure, I did the PID on hotend and Bed as well.. After messing around with two raspberry PI's and following instructions in other maker posts, I had lots of issues- if you are starting with no PI's, it isn't worth it. With this solution you get a 7" screen, basically effortless installation and great results- I paid $149 for SonicPad on Black Friday...
UPDATE: I tested this on the newer Sonic Pad firmware and if you follow the instructions on bed leveling exactly it all works. They fixed the errors that was mentioned in this video.
Thanks i used this video to calibrate pressure advance since it is my first time with klipper dint know i just needed to add it in print.config. Im running now Ender 3 V2 hemera extruder with 5015 blower at 100mm/s with 2000 accel on perimeters and 150mm/s at 2500 accel.
I too would like to see usability with non-creality printers. Like the mini printers (TIna2) and so on. It would be nice it it supported profiles from different printers. At least that way you’d be closer to a viable setup.
If / when the CR-200B / Pro is supported by the Sonic Pad, would you consider doing a review? I’m considering adding a CR-Touch and Sonic Pad, but not sure if I wouldn’t better spend my money on a new K1.
I don't have an Ender-7, but seems it's not using the same Creality v4.2.2 motherboard as the Ender-3 V2 and many other Creality printers. You need to wait for their new firmware to support the Ender-7.
This is a great run down of the features of the pad and setup. I have one on the way! I did have a question about it I hope you could answer. I have an Ender 5 Pro and I haven't seen anyone set it up with those yet. Would a custom firmware need to be generated for an Ender 5 or say a Creality printer with BTT SKR? Hopefully I'll have it by next week and I can figure it out.
I wonder if you think that the resonance testing you did could be improved by better cable management and the elimination of the clip [perhaps by using 2 sided tape]. This test is very specific to the setting where the printer is to be used. Adding mass to the print bed, and a torque arm to the X carriage will both adversely effect the precision of the acceleration offsets. I think this can be done accurately, and without much complication. I think that there is a misunderstanding of the acceleration issue with regard to resonance. Since it a print quality issue where a 3 D printer is concerned, there is only one place where that issue is made manifest, and that is at the very tip of the extruder, where ALL factors in the construction of the printer are combined to deposit material. The closer, and more rigidly the g-meter can be mounted to the tip of the extruder, the more relevant the information will be. This test takes into account absolutely everything in the setup of your printer, down to the position on the table you are using, if you have casters on your table, and even other heavy objects on the table while you are printing. You showed that this fine tuning is very useful in producing good print results, there is much finer tuning you could do by adjusting your testing regime slightly. To be clear, the tests you did would be VERY relevant to any other type of robotic calibration, having an understanding of where robot actuation points in space across the entire domain of movements is critical to the accurate and repeatable programming of a robot in free space, but if you get a significantly different resonance profile when measuring from the bed versus measuring from the print head, you have other problems that will be preventing quality prints. [I am thinking of loose bolts, and loose guide wheels] Based on your review I think I will pick up one of these, the Sonic Pad seems to have all of the features I would want to be able to control, thanks for showing that off.

You can use it without the camera, so, I expect you can control 3 printers and one camera with this pad. But not sure when will they release a new firmware to support multiple printers.
@@AuroraTech Hopefully they do. Personally, I want multiple cameras. Do I need them, no haha. I know the Flsun pad can support multiple printers. I do not think it comes with the sensor for the resonance tuning.

Great Video, I really appreciate that you showed the difference in quality between speed and acceleration. Can you please elaborate, how are you making these changes to your test? I am looking to do the same. For speed is that done in cura? and for acceleration is that purely in klipper (print.cfg file). I am on a Ender 3S1, and have set Velocity to 300m,/s, 6000 mm/s2 (per input/pressure advance test). However on sharp 90 degree corners i see some gaps on some layers.

ive been having problems with the pad for last week straight. cant seem to figure out why the print is stoping mid print on all prints... very frustrating

the z offset thing makes it seem like it may be defaulted for the glass bed surface, instead of the steel one. if so, bit of an oversight in the config options, perhaps.

Your printer screen doesn't become useless, only in some models where the screen is not supported. If you have a supported screen like the one from Ender 3 you can use it
why does no one every show the issue with the ATMEGA1284 chip, board 1.1.4? It has no bootloader and requires you to purchase an additional piece of hardware and search endlessly to find the file you need for an bootloader.

You seem to know what you're doing and I really need help. I have a CR touch and the Sprite Extruder pro on my ender 3 v2 . I'm also using a sonic pad. I came across a problem where when I try to do the auto leveling, the probe does the first 5 points then misses the bed completely on the 6th and the extruder pushes against the bed. I guess it's not aligned or something but I don't understand what's wrong. I also don't know how to edit the klipper config either so I can't really experiment with changing things. Please help!
External stepper motor driver TMC2225 with Input Shaping GH Smart Shaper Due to the shortage of electronic components (Raspberry boards are practically unavailable) and to the required skills, Klipper is not yet a solution within everyone’s reach. GH Enterprise has therefore found a solution that allows you to add Input Shaping to 3D printers in a simple and immediate way, avoiding the use of external host cards such as RPI4. Just replace the X and Y axis drivers with the GH Smart Shaper drivers, add some configuration commands to your g-code and you are ready to print with input shaping.
How do you connect the ender 3 pro to the sonic pad? It's a super simple process but on the final step I can't connect the screen while the printer is powered on with USB or the serial cable. I'm using a 4.2.7 board with sprite extruder and cr touch. Been trying to get support from creality but it's quickly turning into a nightmare. Anyone else having issues with this? Seems fine for the ender 3 V2 and up but with this specific one it's hard to get going.

I have the 1.1.5 and from what I understand, it should work. I recently got the sonic pad and I´m havin a tough time setting it up, though.

In the lastest firmware update for the Sonic Pad, they added several printer profiles, including one for the "CR10 Smart". However they do NOT have the "CR10 Smart PRO" on there that I've seen. As they have different boards in them, I am assuming that this is not a usable profile for the Smart PRO. Why would they add the older, less updated Smart, and leave out the Smart Pro??? Anyway, I'd love for you to do a video of adding the Sonic Pad to the CR10 Smart Pro, and show the results. Also, I'd love to know where you got the 5015 blower for your 5 S1 Pro, as I can't find it anywhere. Thanks for all the well rounded and professionally done vids by you and your brother. I hope to get an answer to these questions, as I have a lot riding on it. Lastly, if you have time, I'd love to see a compare/contrast between the Ender 5 S1 Pro, and the Smart Pro. Thanks. Cheers!
I love your reviews. I did also find the z offset issue with my sonic pad. I feel like a fool since I haven't found a way to direct send the print to the pad or printer from my laptop with moonraker. Thanks for the great efforts you put into this keep the info flowing 😎

Great video. If only my experience was as smooth as yours. My sonic pad didn't even have the same steps loaded on it as yours did. I never saw anything about loading a usb into the pad.

The Biqu CB1 with their 4b adapter board has been a great deal for replacing the need for an official raspberry pi. For about 60 dollars US you can get a pi3 equivalent for running klipper.

I am fine with my stock Ender 3 and Ender5plus and I am not in a hurry. Using Marlin and well tested profiles for my preferred Ideamaker guarantees perfect prints, no ringing, no surface artefacts. My Enders are running 24/7 since 3 years without any issues.

I'm very excited to see where Creality takes this hardware, it has a lot of potential and looks like a hell of a good start. The results are disappointing however. Hopefully they'll be able to take full advantage of it's potential in the future and we'll see better results. I completely agree that adding custom printers would be a huge improvement to the few profiles they currently have. Damn good review.
UPDATE: Yesterday Creality released an update to SonicPad that allows 4 printers to be controlled from one pad! I tested this today by adding a second printer to the SonicPad controlling the Ender 3 S1 Pro (My Ender 5 Plus has is own as it is located elsewhere). Easy peasy setup and operational just as the first one was. What a great value! I am going to sell my two PI's and screens...I like this better..all supported, minutes to install, less expensive. what is not to like? My onlystrange issue is that in Cura 5.2.1 the Build Plate temperature disappears with the provided Cura profiles. It is checked off in Cura settings, but is somehow surpressed- this forces me to adjust when I go to print- although easy, you shouldn't have to--looking in to this now.

One point if I may - you tend to 'speed' over some of the more important technical issues as to why by example, some of the changes you make are needed and for those of us who are not technical - it quickly becomes confusing in trying to understand what the change is, why it is needed and I would ask that you just take a moment to better explain and 'walk' us through the issue and what you're doing to resolve it.

Is there anyway you could do a video on how to set up the sonic pad on a cr 10 smart. There is a lack of information/documentation on the proper way to do it. The steps you have provided for the printers in your video are spot on and I was just wondering with the amount of knowledge you have, if you could provide some insight that creality has not provided on the proper way to use the sonic pad with the cr 10 smart. As I just calibrated mine - it would appear that they have updated the process a bit and it allows you the ability to move the calibration sensor between X and Y resonance. I havent done the pressure advance part yet, but I am already noticing the difference between the stock and the Klipper. Running a test cube as we speak after doing the resonance...

I watched another video to find what the purpose of the resonance test is for. He said it’s similar to what noise cancelling headphones do. Although obvious, they sample the noise at your ears and not your feet. So the resonance test needs to measure the frequencies as the print head sees them. By putting the sensor on the bed during the Y-axis readings, you are taking the vibrations that travel through the z-axis lead screws and through the rollers the print head rides on out of the equation. I suggest running the test both ways and print something tall to see if there are any noticeable differences. Maybe that is why you are not able to get faster speeds on some of your tests Aurora.
Another analogy of this is the large mass dampers near the top of tall skyscrapers. They dampen the sway of the building they feel at the top especially during earthquakes, not what is happening at the base. If the bed of the printer is reading higher vibration levels than what the print head sees, it will overcompensate for it in the software. Since I'm going to install the Sonic Pad on an S1 Plus that has a bigger bed (hence, more mass), I may see a more noticeable difference between compensation and no compensation on it. The printer overall is more massive so there could be less vibration going to the printhead compared to a standard size printer.

My question is, how hard/easy would it be to set it up for an S1 then modify the build volume area? Or set up as S1 Pro and change build area? I have already ordered my sonic pad, but until I have a better idea of how to be able to adjust the build volume I won’t use it.

I have klipper on my ender 3v2 and was able to get a 15 minute benchy with no drop in print quality. You need to set min layer time and min feature size in cura so it slows down on the smaller features. You can also go way higher on acceleration with has a big impact on speed on smaller prints
What is your "min layer time" for pla?
@@Nici619 I had a 10 second min with a 85mm/sec min speed. For small feature it was 6mm diameter with a 85% reduction in speed. 150 was max print speed with a max acceleration of 8500

@@redline3036 I will take a video after I finish printing my ikea lack enclosure parts. My ender is also not stock, I am using a dragon hotend with cht nozzle, stealthburner cooling with 5015 fan. I also ditched the glass bed and went to pei spring steel. I just set up my work printer with klipper on a ender 3 s1 and 35 minutes was the fastest I could get due to cooling issues on the haul.
New version of firmware tells you to tighten all bed knobs, then it has you do Z, then you go back to level four corners- I didn't do level four corners, instead used the auto bed leveling and made a few tweaks, then re-ran and saved the auto bed config. It prints fabulously. I also pushed a few test models to 200% which was around 250mm/sed and got useable prints. For example, was able to print the bunny at this speed and it looked great. I should note I did do the vibration calibration on X and Y axis and the rest of my machine was already tuned, but for good measure, I did the PID on hotend and Bed as well..
After messing around with two raspberry PI's and following instructions in other maker posts, I had lots of issues- if you are starting with no PI's, it isn't worth it. With this solution you get a 7" screen, basically effortless installation and great results- I paid $149 for SonicPad on Black Friday...
UPDATE: I tested this on the newer Sonic Pad firmware and if you follow the instructions on bed leveling exactly it all works. They fixed the errors that was mentioned in this video.
Thanks i used this video to calibrate pressure advance since it is my first time with klipper dint know i just needed to add it in print.config. Im running now Ender 3 V2 hemera extruder with 5015 blower at 100mm/s with 2000 accel on perimeters and 150mm/s at 2500 accel.
I too would like to see usability with non-creality printers. Like the mini printers (TIna2) and so on. It would be nice it it supported profiles from different printers. At least that way you’d be closer to a viable setup.
If / when the CR-200B / Pro is supported by the Sonic Pad, would you consider doing a review? I’m considering adding a CR-Touch and Sonic Pad, but not sure if I wouldn’t better spend my money on a new K1.

I don't have an Ender-7, but seems it's not using the same Creality v4.2.2 motherboard as the Ender-3 V2 and many other Creality printers. You need to wait for their new firmware to support the Ender-7.

I did have a question about it I hope you could answer. I have an Ender 5 Pro and I haven't seen anyone set it up with those yet. Would a custom firmware need to be generated for an Ender 5 or say a Creality printer with BTT SKR?

I wonder if you think that the resonance testing you did could be improved by better cable management and the elimination of the clip [perhaps by using 2 sided tape]. This test is very specific to the setting where the printer is to be used. Adding mass to the print bed, and a torque arm to the X carriage will both adversely effect the precision of the acceleration offsets. I think this can be done accurately, and without much complication.
I think that there is a misunderstanding of the acceleration issue with regard to resonance. Since it a print quality issue where a 3 D printer is concerned, there is only one place where that issue is made manifest, and that is at the very tip of the extruder, where ALL factors in the construction of the printer are combined to deposit material. The closer, and more rigidly the g-meter can be mounted to the tip of the extruder, the more relevant the information will be.
This test takes into account absolutely everything in the setup of your printer, down to the position on the table you are using, if you have casters on your table, and even other heavy objects on the table while you are printing. You showed that this fine tuning is very useful in producing good print results, there is much finer tuning you could do by adjusting your testing regime slightly.
To be clear, the tests you did would be VERY relevant to any other type of robotic calibration, having an understanding of where robot actuation points in space across the entire domain of movements is critical to the accurate and repeatable programming of a robot in free space, but if you get a significantly different resonance profile when measuring from the bed versus measuring from the print head, you have other problems that will be preventing quality prints. [I am thinking of loose bolts, and loose guide wheels]
Based on your review I think I will pick up one of these, the Sonic Pad seems to have all of the features I would want to be able to control, thanks for showing that off.

Great video. My concern with this and the Speeder Pad are is wanting a camera on each printer that's set up.
You can use it without the camera, so, I expect you can control 3 printers and one camera with this pad. But not sure when will they release a new firmware to support multiple printers.
@@AuroraTech Hopefully they do. Personally, I want multiple cameras. Do I need them, no haha. I know the Flsun pad can support multiple printers. I do not think it comes with the sensor for the resonance tuning.

Great Video, I really appreciate that you showed the difference in quality between speed and acceleration. Can you please elaborate, how are you making these changes to your test? I am looking to do the same. For speed is that done in cura? and for acceleration is that purely in klipper (print.cfg file). I am on a Ender 3S1, and have set Velocity to 300m,/s, 6000 mm/s2 (per input/pressure advance test). However on sharp 90 degree corners i see some gaps on some layers.

the z offset thing makes it seem like it may be defaulted for the glass bed surface, instead of the steel one. if so, bit of an oversight in the config options, perhaps.

Your printer screen doesn't become useless, only in some models where the screen is not supported. If you have a supported screen like the one from Ender 3 you can use it
why does no one every show the issue with the ATMEGA1284 chip, board 1.1.4? It has no bootloader and requires you to purchase an additional piece of hardware and search endlessly to find the file you need for an bootloader.

You seem to know what you're doing and I really need help. I have a CR touch and the Sprite Extruder pro on my ender 3 v2 . I'm also using a sonic pad. I came across a problem where when I try to do the auto leveling, the probe does the first 5 points then misses the bed completely on the 6th and the extruder pushes against the bed. I guess it's not aligned or something but I don't understand what's wrong. I also don't know how to edit the klipper config either so I can't really experiment with changing things. Please help!

Due to the shortage of electronic components (Raspberry boards are practically unavailable) and to the required skills, Klipper is not yet a solution within everyone’s reach.
GH Enterprise has therefore found a solution that allows you to add Input Shaping to 3D printers in a simple and immediate way, avoiding the use of external host cards such as RPI4.
Just replace the X and Y axis drivers with the GH Smart Shaper drivers, add some configuration commands to your g-code and you are ready to print with input shaping.
Do you have to insert the G29 Command into the gcode in your slicer for the sonic pad to use the mesh data? If not, how can i turn off bed mesh?
How do you connect the ender 3 pro to the sonic pad? It's a super simple process but on the final step I can't connect the screen while the printer is powered on with USB or the serial cable. I'm using a 4.2.7 board with sprite extruder and cr touch. Been trying to get support from creality but it's quickly turning into a nightmare. Anyone else having issues with this? Seems fine for the ender 3 V2 and up but with this specific one it's hard to get going.
