Harley Softail Stripped Transmission Drainn Plug Fix!

  • Transmission plug hole got stripped or cross-threaded, so I used a piggy back plug to fix it. The smaller plug comes with an o-ring on it that is worthless. Take it off and get a brake washer like the one I used. Just making the small plug hand tight would force the o-ring to deform and push out the side. Not sure why it even comes on there.
    Thanks for Watching!

I can' thank you enough for posting this video. I had the same problem happen today. The dealer wanted to pull the transmission and replace the case to repair the problem. I had never heard of the piggy back plug with oversize threads before watching your video. I followed your procedure and it worked great. You are a lifesaver. Thanks again!

Looks pretty good! It's a stupid place for a drain plug.

Great job it would be nice if you could lift the bike 12+ inches. I learned to not do softail slim maintenance. Cost more in the long run.

Thank you for this video ! This happened to me yesterday on my softail, didn’t get the piggyback though, I bought this rethread kit , I’m gonna work on it tomorrow. My question is , is it easy to tap it with the shocks kinda on your way ? Thanks again

Thanks for the video. I did everything right up until the part of threading the oversized plug in. I got the Dorman single oversized and it’s way bigger than the factory plug. No way am I cranking that into the case, it’ll crack it.

How has it held up over the years? And how did you add a magnet?

If you strip out transmission plug on Gm vehicle all hope is not lost....breaker bar and Irwin bolt grip will get it done....should work for other vehicles too!!
