- Get the liquid gasket sealer at your local Autozone for $1.29. Also don't forget to grab an O ring at Lowes, Home Depot or any local hardware store for about 20 cents. This worked for me and hopefully it works for you. Thanks for watching!!
Dude. Good video! Very well done. My son did a oil change on his girlfriends 2007 mini cooper and he couldn't get the oil drain pan plug out without massive effort. They must have used an impact wrench to tighten. When he finally got it loose and did the oil change it leaked. I just sent him this video. Thanks.

I recommend Fumoto valves. $20. Install once and you never have to remove it to drain oil ever again.

When a damaged oil pan thread no longer allows even an oversize drain bolt to put enough compressive force on the normal crush washer sealing element for a tight seal, an O-ring is ideal because it requires very little compressive force for a high-quality seal with its contact surfaces on the pan and bolt head. The thread sealant does not hurt but may not even be required.

Good idea..I used an ezdrain oil valve..basically same theory...best oil drain system yet...
I like to use a longer spanner because you have more feel, you need to be able to know what the new washer is doing because it crushes and you need to able to feel when that crushing stops and when the tension starts to be applied.
I just did this on my 2004 Nissan Xterra I stripped the plug went to an oversized and it went in crooked and just tore up the thread on the pan I got the oversized plug back out and used a rubber o ring and the thread sealer and no more leak thanks for the video works great

may try a ECO-PLUG or one of the oversize plugs with the little drain plug in the middle of it . Either of those lets you leave the plug part in pan when draining the oil.

How do you take out a differential 1/2 in socket insert fill plug?
M14.1 x 1.5 will work but plenty of new drain plugs out now that do not have to remove to drain

The Oil TIte replacement cannot be the exact size of the original oil plug or it would not work. If it were the same size, it would leak like the original. It must be a larger diameter like 14.25-14.75 mm. for it to fill the gap that was causing the oil to leak. The thread pitch, however, is probably the same size as the original (1.5mm). If this happened once, there's a good chance it will happen again using this plug in the original oil pan hole. A more peremanent fix would be to retap the hole, with a slightly larger size tap, and then use a new bolt with a gasket.
Yeah. Cool, but I agree with some of the other posters here. A Time-Sert or even drill and tap for a larger size bolt would be a much more durable/safer solution. Thanks for the video. :)

I use the blue plastic washer and put some gasket sealant that I bought from 99 cents store around the plug, and it works.
Steel bolt Vs. Aluminum pan = hand tighten bolt and 1/16th turn to tighten, and Steel bolt to Steel pan = hand tighten to snug then 1/8th. turn to finish when working without torque wrench specifications.
What are the o rings made of? Does the thread goo end up getting in your oil?
If it leaks again my next step would be to re tap it with a bigger plug but so far it’s working good not a single drop of oil

What model of oil pan? Is it or will this oversized drainplug work on my '07 Honda Odessey EX-L? That was the DIY answer,I'm needing...
Oversized plugs will work in your Odyssey. I'm having the same issue. This is not a long-term fix. I've seen peoples plugs fall out after hitting pot holes. Not good at all. I would try eco-plug 12-16mm with 3/4" long threads. Check it out, that's what I'm using now. No issues at all!
Doesn’t that sealant get in the oil though and potentially harm your engine?
Can you use a coarser thread pitch using an oversized plug? The original thread pitch on my oil pan is M12-1.5. The only thing I can find at any parts store is M12-1.75. Would this work? I need the car back in a hurry.

Funny it happens to my car at Sears they sent me to the dealer and they paid for the oil change and I guess restrip the oil pan.
This sort of thing happened to me having shocks repl. at Sears once. This was near an Airforce base and they hired Airmen after hours to do basic work. Drove home after the job, three minutes away, and saw one of the shocks hanging down under the car. Went back to have redone, as they'd over torqued the bolts, all of them as they didn't set the impact wrenches correctly. Can't trust some of these places. Need to know your service shops.

locktite 567 is also good!! i try before the 577 and this dont work the 567 is high temp product the 577 is better for water pipes. Next step is to install a helicoil is better than a oversize plug because helicoil is stainless steel. and final step is to insert a oil drain valve with some strong locktite like the green 680

I have a couple of these didnt use them. Bought a die kit didnt use it. BMW 335i 11 is still dripping so tired of it but worried like a mf about metal shavings. Ik the grease, refill with oil let drain ect ect but dang it's scary am I wrong?
Would a car repair shop recommend this even though its super cheap parts and labor? I don't want to go to pep boys and they say it needs a new pan
It sounds like the threads in the hole are stripped; you can use an M14-1.5 tap to chase and clean up the threads, then get a new plug and run a die from the same kit over the threads before you put it in. If that doesn't work, you can drill out the hole to a bigger size, and tap it to M16-1.5. Buy M16-1.5 oil drain plugs after that. Taps and dies are much cheaper and easier than replacing an oil pan.
You'd be better to install an insert. If it's a 14x 1.25, try a Save-A-Thread kit. A Big Sert kit might work. Lisle has a kit. You may need a large drill. Get drill bits and taps if needed. Use a screw extractor to remove inserts. A Big Sert locks in. AutoZone has kits.
How is your repair holding up? My sister's BMW has stripped oil drain plug, and I thought about going this route, but it did not seem to be a long term fix. So, I decided to go for repair using steel insert, which costs 10x as much, but thread should last much longer (at least I hope..)
With that much working room. I would rethread the sump pan and call it good.
Thanks for the video but this is a bullshit fix. You should tap it and insert a 5/8” bolt. You have plenty of room for that. I just did my Honda prelude and it’s holding great with new threads. I also put some gasket maker sealant on the last half inch of threads.
