My mum made this every year at Christmas. She put everything in a big roaster. There were mixed nuts, cheerios, and mini pretzels. She used peanut oil instead of butter and your other ingredients. She made it in the evening and stirred it every 20 minutes or so. I think she roasted it about 2 hours. She filled big metal coffee cans, which you can't get any longer, and every family got one. My one brother always asked for two cans, and I think he got it. It was always the center attraction at Christmas.
I have always liked homemade Chex mix . Because of you at age 64 , I can make delicious dressing !! I made it thanksgiving and will make again tomorrow. 🎄💜
I remember my Dad always made this for Christmas, I haven't had it seen he passed 22 years ago. Thank you so much for reminding me of a precious memory. I will have to make us some.
Merry Christmas! I like to use more Rice Chex than the other Chex. I also add oriental noodles and garlic bagel chips - oh, and cashews! Gotta have the cashews!!
Boy, this recipe takes me back to when my 2 kids were in grammar school. I used to bring it in to share with their classes. Each student got a paper cup and we would fill it with this treat. They loved it and so did I. They are both now in their mid 40's that's how far back we go with this recipe. Thanks for sharing. I can smell it from here.
Woman....you have changed the level of my cooking skills just enough to make my hubby smile big at dinner. Your videos are refreshing and educational. I love your relaxed teaching ways. Feels very welcoming. Picked up great tips and already tried two recipes from your vol 3 cookbook. Thank you for doing all you do. A truly appreciative fan.
My mom always added peanuts which I wasn’t crazy about, also stick pretzels. She also added plain Cheerios, those were my favorite out of the mix! Happy holidays!
I remember my grandparents making these for the holidays. Do-dads, we call them. When, I make the mix, I 'accidentally' overflow the measuring cup. It calls for 6 TBSP of butter. Since I overflow my ingredients, I use 1 1/2 butter and extra seasonings. When I was 10 or 11, my grandmother taught me how to make peanut butter Ritz sandwiches dipped in melted almond bark. It tastes between a Snickers and a Twix. I just dip in a little over 1/2 though instead of immersing it because I needed the rest for making bark with silver and blue sugar and broken pretzels. Delish.
Ya know you could just as well as put all your spices in your butter mix it up and pour it all over your chex mix. That's what I saw another video do and it seems that would be a lot more effective. She added red pepper flakes but I don't do spicy myself. This sounds so delicious and can't wait to try it. Thank you Tammy. Blessings to you and your family and Happy New Year.
Hello from Lexington, North Carolina!❤ Mother made this and we all loved it!! Thank you for all the recipes that bring back so many memories! Merry Christmas with love❤🎄
I use the same blend of ingredients but make two double batches in large roasting pans. I increase the sauce to use 2 1/2 sticks of butter and increase the other ingredients to match. It is my favorite snack for bowl games.
This is a delicious blast from the past. My mom and I used to make a huge batch of this for Christmas Eve when friends and family would drop by. Loved it then and love it now.
I just LOVE WATCHING YOU! Your Recipes remind me of Home, and you and Chris are My Kind Of People! (BTW, I’m a 72 year old retired teacher, getting into cooking again! Thanks so much!)❤🙏🏼😊🥰
Merry Christmas, Ms Tammy wishing you and your Family a Very Blessful Christmas, You are a Special Lady to me, listening to you and watching you make different foods makes my day.
This is my favorite snack. I use pecans in mine. I wonder how it would taste with Ranch Dressing Mix....I’ll have to try it sometime. I hope that you, Chris and the girls have a wonderful 2021! God Bless!
Merry Christmas Tammy to you and Chris and a Happy New Year. You a Beautiful soul your channel brings so much calm and grounding to us all . This next year is going to be awesome . Love you my friend and God Bless all
Thanks Tammy, it was good to remember this. If someone doesn’t have a large enough bowl, a turkey roaster works well. I got that tip from my mom.Have a Happy New Year and thank your husband for me for showing the seasoning so plainly. Carol
This is such a great recipe. This year is the first time I have made this and put it all in a crock pot on low and stirred every now and then and it worked great! I got the tip online and couldn't believe how well it worked, too.
The melted butter in the roasting pan with the spices stirred in, is the way to do. It gives the seasongs a xhance ro meld together. Stirring the cereal and other ingrediets in coats them in the heated pan. To each his own, but you bake it anyway. Omit mixing bowl, my Grandma made the best Chex mix in a roaster.
My Aunt would make big batches of this for Christmas presents we would bake it in tukey pans she would also add gold fish, peanuts and walnuts when it was done she added dry fruit it was so good and I sure do miss it
Hi Tammy! I needed a good snack mix to have around for my crew to munch on & this Chex Mix was perfect! And, they loved it! Thanks for another video, y'all!
I put everything in a clean garbage bag and shake it up! I also mix the butter, Worcestershire sauce and dry spices together and pour it in the bag with the dry ingredients. Shake and shake some more. Place in pan and bake.
Yes, the good ole Chex Mix is a Christmas favorite & a must have. Had it growing up & looked forward to it being there when I went home to parent's house for the holidays. Those Bugle chips are good, the regular flavor. Merry Christmas to you & family.
Ive never put the seasoned salt in it. I Make a big roasting pan full every dec. I like pecans, cashews and walnuts and a small can of mixed nuts. I too use cheerios. Now I want to make some more.
Thanks for this brings back memories of Christmas at My Nannies .... She made it pretty much like you...... She put hers in Bread Packages ... to give to Family & Friends She made tons and would freeze them Thanks for the memories
If you prefer the bold Chex mix, I’ve been naughty and add a whole cup of butter, a tbs and 1/2 of lawreys, a tsp of garlic powder and 1 tsp onion powder and 1/3rd cup of worcestershire (Sp) sauce. I read about this and oh my! It’s so good!
We always mixed the butter and seasonings and poured them over the mix. There were always areas that the seasonings were too heavy in one area. Definitely going to do it your way next year. Or will I wait???
Thanks for reminding me of Party Mix! The VERY BEST Party Mix I ever ate was when I was growing up! I tried tons of recipes and could NEVER get it as good as what I ate as a little girl. I finally decided to call the granddaughter of the lady who used to make her wonderful recipe. I HAD to know why her’s was so good! The granddaughter gave me her grandmother’s recipe. I couldn’t believe the only difference! I found out the recipe from the 50’s & 60’s was…BACON GREASE!!! 😳 Instead of all butter, she also used some bacon grease. Have you ever heard of anyone using Bacon Grease in Party Mix? It makes all the difference in the world, and is still by far the best tasting Party Mix Ever. I don’t use it every time. But, if I want to make it taste like the Good Old Days, I do use the bacon grease. 😃
Tammy thank you for being such a delight i have watched your videos for 3 years love you and your sweet family you have been my go to person this year and it has really lifted my spirits Merry Christmas 🎅
So cute your doggies 🐕 🐕 came in. They said sounds like mommy is fixing food in our bowls. We have those kind of bowls for our fur babies. They sure know the sounds to listen for.
Merry Christmas !!! I'm so glad you shared this recipe !! Someone made this several years ago at a kids birthday party and it was my favorite . I never could remember the whole recipe . All I could remember was they used Worcestershire sauce . I'm definitely gonna make this !! Thank you Tammy !! 🎅🤶🎄🎁☃️⛄🍭🔔🧝♀️👼🧝♂️❤😘
That chex mix looks so good. I know it smelled heavenly.Your dogs are so sweet and well behaved. Ard they all poodles did you raise them from pups? My dog passed away I miss her so much as I am all alone now.I would love another dog. My kids say no you dont need the mess mom they wont be like Ava was.
Here in South Texas we call this Texas trash! I make it every year too! Only I melt one stick of butter and add 1/2 cup of bacon grease then I melt the grease I to the butter. Then I add the seasoned salt, etc. And I add three tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce then add all of it at once and mix the heck out of it. And then we do like your recipe and bake. Once you try the bacon grease you may not go back to only butter. That's why I only make it at Christmas! Very yummy!
I wanted to reach and grab a handful n start munching n crunching! Looks Absolutely Amazing Tammy! Girlfriend, You're The Best! Love you n God Bless...🙏✨💖✨💪😀
Tammy This looks really good. I have made Chex mix the only season I used was the popcorn butter oil . put the Chex mix in a large plastic bag pour the popcorn oil in the bag and shake Ready to eat. SIS from texas
I think it's easier to mix the butter with the Worch. sauce and seasonings, then pour the whole thing into the cereal mix and stir well (like the recipe says). I like to make the oyster cracker snacks and do it the same way. Of course, it's fun to vary the flavors. I recently found the Frank's Red Hot Buffalo Ranch seasoning blend which I love to use on snacks. A barbecue spice is good, too.
✍ Hi Tammy its February 2, 2023 and I'm watching this video again. I watched it when you originally made it. When I was in junior high school 1958 the Ohio Edison electric company gave our home economics class the original recipe to make "Chex Mix" and its exactly like you made it. They also gave us the recipe to make"Nestles crunch bars"...Yum!
Where can i find this mixing bowl? I need a larger one so I can make a larger quantity of Chex Mix. Right now, the mixing bowl I have, when I stir the mix, it all comes out of the top of the bowl😂😂 I need a bowl like this

It’s quicker to just put all seasonings and Worcestershire in the melted butter, stir it well and then pour on cereal.
I do that too
Rice, corn & wheat chex, cheerios, pretzels, peanuts & mixed nuts, butter, garlic powder, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce & Tabasco. Yum yum.
I put all my seasonings in the melted butter also.
@@kbarnes2047 HOW much Tabasco do you use, please?
Quicker isn't always better. Slow down and make things with love.
It sure is easier.

Merry Christmas! I like to use more Rice Chex than the other Chex. I also add oriental noodles and garlic bagel chips - oh, and cashews! Gotta have the cashews!!
My wife make this and she bake it for 30 min. and then I put it in my Bradley Smoker for 2 HR and it comes with a lite smoke to it very good !!
